Review Crossings Grill & Pub - London

Shane Train
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Crossings Pub near Hyde Park and Sarnia Rd, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. The first thing that caught my eye was the stunning Victorian structure that houses the pub. It's a true architectural gem, beautifully preserved and exuding old-world charm. The beer served at the Crossing Pub was not only crisp but also incredibly fresh. It perfectly complemented the cozy ambiance and added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. I decided to try the chicken parmasan pasta, and it was nothing short of delicious. The flavors were rich and savory, and the portion was generous. I couldn't have asked for a better pub meal. The bartender was able to accommodate my preference for having the pasta sauce changed from Alfredo to Marinara. What truly stood out was the friendly and welcoming bartender. Their warm and accommodating attitude made the visit even more delightful. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent drink recommendations. In conclusion, the Crossing Pub is a hidden gem with its beautiful Victorian structure, fresh beer, and mouthwatering food. The exceptional service provided by the bartender added to the overall fantastic experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch experience.

My boyfriend and I had the best experience tonight at the Crossings pub! Service is superb, food is absolutely delicious and it is the cutest pub ever! The blooming onion is the reason we found this place and it didn’t miss. Soo good! I got the chicken Parmesan and it is some of the best I’ve ever had! So crispy and just the right amount of sauce, soo good! Such a gorgeous structure inside and out. Caesars are 5$ on Sundays! We will 100% be back! Our server was absolutely amazing and she made our Caesars better than I do, which is super unusual. I cannot remember her name but she had gorgeous blonde curly hair and she was so sweet. Thank you for the amazing experience, very hard to find in London nowadays. Amazing place!

Excellent experience for dinner with two couples on the patio last night - June 9th. One of the nicest patios in the city. Far back from the road. Really great service- fast and friendly. But also left us to linger and chat. And the food and drinks delicious. Roasted Veg Salad really good. Salmon was “one of the best I’ve had”. Mule cocktail was superb. Get the fried pickles! Rounded out with the Sticky Toffee Pudding - to die for. And parking is never a hassle. My only concern was I didn’t get the name of the young brunette who served us. She was top notch. Thank you 🙏

Lunch on patio so delicious! 2 people of our group had the turkey club very popular and its real roasted turkey breast. They raved how good it was. Hubby had Fish & chips and I had the Prosciutto and haloumi salad. All of the food was great! Service was great. Our waitress was very attentive, very friendly and prompt! Great patio spot !

All four of us ordered something different and all dinners were tasty and filling. Our server was excellent. She noted our special requests and did not forget about us once she had delivered our meals. With several smaller rooms (as opposed to one or two large ones), we were able to carry on a quiet conversation throughout the evening. Our one, somewhat negative comment, is that the decor is in need of updating.

Had lunch on the patio on August 4th. Nicolette was amazing. Knew the menu well and answered all of our questions. Very pleasant , professional and even divided our Chicken Caesar salad into separate bowls (sharing) without us asking! She was proactive throughout our time at restaurant. Thanks Nicolette for your kindness and making this an exceptional experience !!!! Nachos were also very good and more than enough food.

Server was great, friendly and gave good suggestions. Food was good. I think I just came at a busy day/time and wasn't expecting it to take as long as it did. We arrived at 5:15 and left at 7:15 (on a Wednesday). One entre and one kids meal. Place was quite busy, but that is generally a positive sign of a good restaurant.

I was in at crossings last Thursday and had the chicken parm which was delicious! I also had an incredible experience with the male bartender. He was quite busy but attentive, warm and provided overall great service. He seems to really excel at his job and care about the customers! I would definitely be back due to this positive experience.

It’s a big place and great patio. Due to rush we couldn’t sit on the patio but dining is good too. Just a bit strange and awkward to sit inside. Spotted few house flies inside which was a distraction. Food is good but a bit overpriced for classic meals. Good place to hangout in larger groups

An official lunch date with my guy, well, husband. LOL. Always a pleasant place to dine. We've always only dined outside/patio. But always nice.

Good food but it took quite some time to get out food

Very cool place to hang out. It's got an English / Irish vibe to it. Even though I'd love to have more local beers available, the beer selection is decent. Out of the food, both the crab sandwich and the meatloaf were good. The spinach and artichoke dip is a really good starter.

Crossings is a great spot with an awesome atmosphere. It is inside a beautiful old home that's been renovated and has a lot of character. The food is good and the prices are fair. The meatloaf is stacked on mash with onion rings and was really good. The pastry on top of the pot pies is really good but was a bit disappointed with the filling. Taste was good but filling seemed like a light soup with a piece of grilled chicken cut up and mixed in... not that thick rich roux which coats the entire filling. But again, tasted good! Fish and chips are always great as are the lunches I've had!

Had the Louisiana Hot Chicken burger and as a side I chose the onion rings. Onion rings were very tasty, however the chicken (even though it was tasty) was a slight disappointment, because I was expecting something more substantial. Hot chicken sandwiches seems to be trending now which is why I ordered it to begin with. Compared to others this was underwhelming. So I placed the onion rings on the chicken and ate it together and it was good. I am giving this place the 5 star review because of the stellar staff. We had a new hire James serve us with such an amazing, positive attitude that I told him to keep it up because it was contagious. The whole staff that day were AMAZING considering we were in a heatwave and you could see the struggle was real with the amount of sweat glowing on their faces. I can't even imagine what the kitchen staff had to endure. Everyone was supportive of each other even though they were short staffed. This place continues to be top-notch for a nice dinning experience and we will continue to come.

We have been coming for years for meetings and social gatherings. Though occasionally they forget our reservation, the staff always go above and beyond to make up for it. Have to say the menu is a bit tired and could use an update, not just the physically new menus but some new dishes and selection, The food is OK to good, and the ambiance is lovely. Meghan, a long-time employee from the Lambeth location transferring over to this location, is a true gem in this industry. Her service is worth coming back for.

I always love coming here with family and it’s so close to home. Out for a 10K run and ran out of water. Went inside and was greeted with a smile, asked for a glass of water and it was returned with no charge with some ice and even a lemon wedge! Such a nice gesture by that kind server. Nice job Crossings.

The first visit to my "local". The excellent service was immediately noticeable -- happy servers everywhere ... often ! The patio needs an urgent renovation. Ordered, from recommendation, the meatloaf with onion rings and mashed potato -- huge quantity -- excellent ! Chef, don't put the onion rings under the meat loaf and gravy in future. It will be chicken next time. Couldn't find room for dessert -- house wine quite acceptable.

Six of us decided to go here for dinner. It had been over a year since we had been here and we wanted to see if the food had improved. We arrived at six pm and were seated on the patio. It was a very hot, sunny day and we tried to sit in a shaded area. The server was very attentive and knowledgable. We all ordered our drinks and visited for about a half hour before ordering. There was entertainment starting at 7 pm in the corner of the patio. It was a singer and guitar player and they were very good and entertaining. We ordered, crab cakes, 2 deep dish pizzas, a dirty burger and fries, battered fish and fries, a beef dip with fries and I had the Po Boy Crab with sweet potato fries. Everyone seemed happy with their order and we enjoyed the evenng with good food, good company and good entertainment. The food was hot and tasty and we decided the menu must have changed since the last time we were here and we would probably be back~~~

Had a very good lunch yesterday at crossings, nice waitress and the atmosphere was fun. I always wanted to try this a place, driving by it seemed like a funky little spot out on its own. The food was truly good and something different - I ordered a turkey burger and my s/o got a Chicken and Brie sandwich. Both sandwiches were made of complex and different flavours. I opted for their homemade soups as a side- also very yummy! While there the table next to us ran into some problems with their food (not cooked to their liking) and the staff handled their complaints like champs- addressed the concerns immediately and within minutes everyone was back to enjoying their meals. Overall, very good experience, a little pricey but a nice way to treat yourself.

Crossings has a pretty extensive menu and has consistently good food. Each time I've come for lunch or dinner everything has been excellent. Only disappoint is when I came for brunch they would not allow us to order off the lunch menu. The brunch menu isn't very impressive and I would have preferred the lunch menu instead but was told I would have to wait over an hour before I could order off of the regular menu.
Costa
Good. Pub food that is pub food - nice ambience but nothing out of this world. Food is very acceptable. Had the Union Jack burger and it was tasty enough.
Dona Bernice
The pub ambience was great, The dirty burgers, pasta and crab cakes are awesome! The wait staff are attentive and fun. I have been to both locations and while the inside environment in Lambeth is brighter, the Hyde Park has the best patio location. The food presentation is as good as, OR better than 'fine dining establishments'.
Laurie Welbourn
Just had the best burger I have ever tasted. The Union Jack burger with sautéed mushrooms, bacon and blue cheese is amazing!! Highly recommended
Kevin
Meh. Great location, cool patio, slow but polite service, dull and blah food. In this day and age when there are so many wonderful gastro-pubs why waste money here. Until they turn this around we're never going back.
Chris
Disappointing. Terrible service, small portions for the price, and the food itself is not that great. The fish tacos are very disappointing - flavourless and there is nothing to them. We had to wait a while to get water and beer (which was flat and not cold). This place has a lot of potential - nice ambience and patio but they need to improve the service and quality of the food.
Fiona Lomas
Very Chaotic. Went for dinner on Saturday night. On the plus side, we didn't have to wait long for a table but that's about where the positives ended. The server we had was really bad - didn't tell us the specials, didn't give us a drink list and didn't really give a crap. We were seated by the bar in the corner so I had a pretty good view of the room and noticed that a couple of times, the wait staff were giving food to the wrong tables. The appetizer was alright but the flat bread that came with a hot dip was covered in so much flour! I had to shake off the excess. I mentioned it to the person who took the plates away (she wasn't dressed in a kilt so maybe she was the manager) but she said it was because they were hand made. Uhhhh, I think it was because they were undercooked. They were very pale and just looked like wedges of dough. Then the entrees came. They were better and this is going to sound really picky BUT the vinegar that came with my fries wasn't malt! What kind of pub serves regular white vinegar with hand cut fries?! So in a nutshell, this place may be better to try out on a non busy night where you can actually get all the menus and feel like you're not putting the server out by asking questions. I don't know if it was a line, but the server apologized for his lame service (as we were calculating the tip) but too little, too late, bud.

Outstanding Gastro Pub Experience!. Crossings does so many things right. The food, the staff, the atmosphere.
It's a perfect blend combining a traditional pub atmosphere, friendly service and fresh and sumptuous nosh. I love this place.

Great Brunch!!!!. Our first visit and decided to go for Sunday brunch. Loved the atmosphere, loved the music, service was great but most of all absolutely loved the food!!! Husband ordered the steak and eggs and I ordered the Croquet Madame, both were incredible. The homefries were done just right a little crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, without too much grease. The croquet madame was tasty and a large portion. My husband's steak was done to his liking and had good seasoning and flavour. One of my favourite parts of the meal though was the unexpected pastries that were delivered to our table before the meal, boy were they delicious!! Overall we were very impressed and want to come back to try a dinner entree next time!

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. Mmmmmm... highly recommend :)
Great food! Great atmosphere! Cute Kilts :)

Just the best. I frequent crossings at least once a week for over a year now. Everything they do is just right. Whatever I am In the mood for if its a great brunch or prime rib dinner they do both amazing. Or their pub items are great too if I feel like wings or nachos. Last night I had the dinner feature. Mushroom stuffed bacon wrapped pork tenderloin on chorizo gnocchi it was incredible!!
Wallyandgiz
Typical. High fat, high salt food. Lack of originality, in season, local product, herbs and spices to add dimension to the dishes.

Place was packed which doesn't say much for people knowing what good food actually is. Had the turkey dinner burger, pretty sure they are not cooking turkey's off but rather using what I believe to be PC's turkey loaf, has about 4000mg of sodium in it. Husband had fish tacos, that were deep fried, it was unfortunate.

They had live entertainment, good on them. Wouldn't go back for the food though, maybe a drink and music.

If you are fellow foodie out there and want a pub experience go to the Church Key or Milos Beer emporium downtown. Both actually walk the talk.

Wonderful Food , Fabulous service. Being fairly new to the Hyde Park area, we have enjoyed the atmosphere of Crossings Grill and Pub. Several out-of- town guests have been introduced to this place since we have moved and consistently there have been rave reviews. We all enjoyed delicious appetizers such as the Fall Flat Bread, Fried Artichokes and the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. Every item was delicious and it was priced well. One of our favourite offerings is the variety of beers on tap. The servers who work in the bar area are knowledgable and friendly, never steering us wrong on selections to taste. Our main meals were also delicious and they were served in a very timely manner. When we indulge in an evening at Crossings, we often request to sit in the bar area as the servers are awesome and very attentive. Every bar waitress has been delightful and the service we continue to receive is appreciated. My family looks forward to returning very soon.

Disappointing Service. I was at Crossings not too long ago. Food - good, beer selection -great, service - insulting. Perhaps it is not all wait staff at this place but the dark hair bartender was beyond awful. I sat waiting as she was absorbed in her cell phone, ignoring me and other people as well, when I finally asked if I could order a drink, she glanced at me looking rather annoyed, and responded rudely "Yep. What do you want". Thankfully I was just grabbing a drink while waiting for friends and didn't have to deal with this attitude for longer than it took to order my beverage. A dining experience is supposed to be enjoyable and serving staff are typically supposed to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, my encounter with this individual was an awful start to my evening and needless to say my friends and I decided to stay for an appetizer and went else where for dinner.

Excellent. I've been here a couple times but most recently it was just amazing. I had chicken stuffed with proscuitto with a cheesy peppercorn sauce and polenta frites. It was delicious but even better than this was one of the seasonal appetizers my family shared. It was a flatbread with apple, fennel, rosemary, bacon and goat cheese (with a thin layer of cream cheese to hold it all on the dough, according to our server) and it was literally incredible. My family thoroughly enjoyed everything they ordered and the service was also great. My sister ordered nachos and forgot to ask for some toppings removed but the waitress simply brought her an entire new plate of nachos made exactly how she wanted.

The atmosphere is beautiful too, it's in an old Victorian home that's been renovated and redone. We were lucky to be seated upstairs because we got to listen to a piper that the guests in one of the party rooms had hired to play a few songs. Look forward to going back there!

Pulled pork = amazing. This was my first time at Crossings. I had heard a lot of good things about this gastropub and it was all true. The restaurant itself looks like a big character home that has separate pub and dining sections. I was seated in the Whiskey room which features a wall displaying various whiskeys. I ordered the pulled pork tacos, which I think was a starter but I think they were a perfect lunch portion for me. They don't come with sides since they are an appy in themselves, but the taco was layered with guacamole, pulled pork and coleslaw. The others I was with ordered the grilled chicken & brie sandwich and the dirty burger and they loved both. The burger patty had chunks of bacon in it, which awesome. I also tried the Caesar salad, which also had the bacon chunks. The server brought us about 5 different flavoured Tabasco sauces which was a great touch. Everything was fresh - service was great. I would definitely go back.

Excellent all four times I have been. Pulled pork poutine and pizza are great. House lager is also surprisingly good. Will return again.

Surprised (In A Good Way). This was our first visit and we were happily surprised. It was busy for a Friday night and the hostess greeted us with a warm welcome.
We sat outside which was great, beautiful bar, and comfy seats.
The menu isn't huge but who needs huge if everything is good?
The soup of the day was a coconut thai mixture that was super good.
The deep dish carnivore pizza was huge and served in a hot skillet. The grilled cheese was lightly disappointing as the portion was small and overwhelmed by the jam that came with it. The pan seared trout was lovely-- crispy, buttery and served with potatoes hat was cooked just right. It was a small dish so don't go with a big appetite.
We were really happy with the quality of the meals, everything homemade. We just wanted more! :) We will be back...and get apps before the meal!

Food! Friendly! Fun!. LOVE Crossings Grill & Pub!!
Service is always very Friendly & professional and the food is EXCELLENT (The BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza- A MUST Try!!!). Crossings is always the first choice for my family when dining out and it's also the '#1' for friends on Saturday nights for live music and a 'few' cocktails. During the colder months, Monday nights are fun (yes Monday nights) for PubStumpers Trivia. When the sun finally decides to stick around, we go to there for the BEST PATIO IN LONDON!!! Can't wait for opening day!
Love2Eat
So far so good. After 3 visits, all our food was great and the beer was cold. I have recommended this place to 4 couples and they have been back since. Maybe you have to go 4 times for poor food and service?!?
Chris
A Personal Favourite. There are a few higher end priced meals but generally the majority of meals are reasonably priced.

I call it “Pub Grub with a twist” since everything is homemade and the presentation is quite pleasant.

A few of the highlights include their Prime Rib special on Sunday’s, their pizzas and Meatloaf.

I also consider myself to be a seasoned veteran when it comes to eating various types of Sticky Toffee Pudding and Crossings has without a doubt the best I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.

Pulled Pork Sandwich & Salad.

Best brunch in the city. My husband and I have been to sunday brunch a few times over the past few months, and besides the friendly service and casual atmosphere, which we love, we come back for the absolutely delicious baked goods. This past weekend a beautiful plate of white chocolate biscotti, amazing lemon poppyseed muffin and croissants that taste better than any we have ever tried were placed on the table. Our server has assured us that everything is made fresh and by hand and we will definitely be returning. Our only complaint is that we cant buy the croissants and biscotti from the restaurant. The pastries are by far worth the trip.
ACons
Sunday brunch is excellent... Great prices and high quality ingredients. They brought out croissants, biscotti and a lemon tart as a free appetizer ... Top notch!

Staff needs a tune up. Servers need better training for sure ...food is ok, overall thumbs down.

Crossings was Great!. What a fantastic experience.
Had the salmon starter! Wow. Absolutely amazing.
Dinner was the meatloaf. Again, another winner.
Read the reivews on this site and was hesitant.
But the food and service was amazing.
Our server was delightful.
But the food, was out of this world.
Kat M
The food is pretty good. I had the shrimp dip & the perch & chips and both were quite tasty. If you're in a hurry, go somewhere else. It wasn't very busy but it took forever to get out food, and our server never once asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything. I would go back, but I won't go when I'm hungry.... I'm sure I will have an appetite by the time I get my food!
Food Goes In Here
Lamb curry was bland and looked like a dogs dinner... Steak was mediocre... Overall food was poor...Service was decent and atmosphere is good...
T-Bone
Where's the "Chicken Supreme" ?. We just ate there for dinner a few nights ago and ordered 4 different entre's in total. Firstly lets get to the main issue. I ordered the "Chicken Supreme", which was actually very tasty overall and came with lots of "polanta fries" and veggies but it took me about 10 seconds until I finally found all of the two, micro sized portions of chicken, one piece was the size of a teaspoon and the other was approaching a tablespoon...maybe !!! Come on folks, that was totally redicu-list to charge $22 for that plate. It's chicken, not a T-Bone steak...serve up a full breast at least ! The "Meatloaf" was a good size portion but somewhat tasteless, the "Lamb Curry" was good, and the "Flank Steak" was good. Overall it's was ok except for my chicken dish. Of all the dishes to cheap out on, why would you chince out on chicken ? Anyway, I can't really reccomend this place at all for dinner as it was average at best and 20% overpriced due to the area. Its got a pretty good patio bar but not enough stage room for a band. Too bad, we needed a good dinner place over here, but its a good place for a drink !!!

Love it every time!!!!!. My husband & I have been to crossings on many occasions, cause we love it. We have never had a bad experience. We always order a few appetizers, sit on the great patio. My husband loves the great selection of beers they have and I am so pleased with the red wines they have to offer. I writing on here cause Saturday we had lunch there on the patio and it was super busy & hot out. We revived the BEST service I have ever had. We had our 3 year old daughter with us and our server and manager were so good to her, she loved the chicken & mushroom ravioli appetizer. I like to drink water and was drinking it really fast cause it was hot and our server was so on the ball to refill it, didn't have to ask not once. My husband & I both tried something we hadn't had before on the menu and again we were so impressed with the food. I highly recommend you try it. Our family & friends enjoy it just as much as we do too!!

Rebuttal to bad reviews. We were a bit apprehensive about going to Crossings after reading the various negative reviews.
Now that we have gone, we are mystified by all the complaints!!
We went on a busy Sunday evening (Canada Day) but were met at the door by a friendly hostess who seated us immediately. The very courteous and knowledgeable waitress appeared within a couple of minutes to talk about specials and take drink orders.
VERY impressive bar stock! They even had my favourite Somersby cider.
We split an appetizer (three decent sized crab cakes with tasty slaw) and both had the prime beef special. Mine was slightly more pink than I usually like, but the portion size was HUGE and very tender. Garlic mashed potatoes and veggies were tasty and Yorkshire pudding with au jus lovely.
Alas we did not have room for dessert!
The service was extremely friendly, prompt, and food perfectly timed (not too rushed, but never left waiting).
Overall an excellent experience!
TwoGoodCooks
The best burger ever. You've got to try the Dirty Burger, a perfectly cooked and dressed burger experience - imagine a beef and ground BACON patty! It came with a choice between fries, caesar or house salad, but we'd noticed celery root slaw mentioned with another dish and asked if we could substitute - Elizabeth, our attentive and friendly waitserver, agreed and brought our meal out in short order. Carmelized onions, tomatoes, bacon strips, awesome cheese, chipotle aioli sauce and leaf lettuce inside a bun that held up to the last bite. Absolutely delicious!

Perfect patio location for a hot sunny Canada Day lunch!

Dinner and lunch. Lunch on patio a few weeks ago.. great food/service, recommend the veg sandwich
Dinner tonight on the patio... excellent food.. perch + panka-chevre salad. Well cooked/large quantities.
\Service was perfect.. met friends & wanted to talk quite awhile before ordering. We were give time, not rushed even though it was busy. Very attentive and pleasant and efficient staff.
Love it
Laura
Very Disappointing. I never complain at restaurants, I'm sort of a push over and let it go....but the service and food was SO bad at Crossings that I HAD to complain. This is also my first online review, I just need to share how awful of an experience that my boyfirend and I had..

We waited at the door for quite a bit until a hostess came. She didn't welcome us she just said "I'll see if I can fit you in somewhere..." We were seated. We waited, and waited....and waited. Tried flagging servers down, waited...20 min later we still were not even greeted for our drink order. About 25 min in, we were about to leave when the server FINALLY came. "Have you been helped", we said "no and we've been waiting forever". She did not apologize, she just said "oh I thought the other guy had your table". We placed our drink and food orders because we had already been looking at the menu for half an hour. The food took FOREVER! We contemplated leaving many times because we had somewhere to be. From the time we were seated, to the time we got our food, it was about an HOUR AND A HALF.

I got the lamb curry. The rice was SO undercooked...it was crunchy and hard to eat! Underneath the bed of rice, the bowl was full with water. The rice wasn't even drained. The served asked how everything was. I explained how bad the rice was. She didn't apologize, she just seemed pissed off and said "I can take it back". I said "I don't have time to wait another hour for it to be remade so..." I just ate the curry on top. When I stirred it around with the rice, it was soo soupy that when I took a fork full, it drained out and I was left with plain, crunchy rice. NOT worth the $18 that it cost!

I complained about the service and the food and got no apology or compensation of any sort. I was really upset because we are very broke and were "treating ourselves" to a nice dinner. We will never go back and do NOT recommend!

Just bad food. The first time my wife and I went there, the food was pretty bad. However, we wanted to give it another shot as perhaps they were just having a bad day. NO. The food is still terrible. Order Perch dinner and the way it was prepared and served is horrible. An inch of beer batter dripping in grease. Who does perch that way??? Order stuffed calamari and they were frozen breaded and awful. Not sure how this place stays open? Perhaps it's because the Oakridge area doesn't have much to choose from.
Maria
Great brunch. Best home fries I've ever had! I love this place.
Terminator
Came in for Sunday brunch. Easily one of the best brunches in the city. Lots of options to choose from with a few innovative twists on some of the classics. I had the feature omlette which was amazing. (roasted red pepper, chèvre, and spinach). Washed it down with a Muskoka Cream ale - one of my favourites. First time I've been able to find it on tap. 25 more beers on tap to try so: I'll be back.
Sarah
Great!. I went there three weeks ago with my boyfriend. We wanted to make sure we left a positive review for them, since we had a great experience! The food we chose was great, the waitress was fantastic and even made great drink suggestions (which we loved). We bought three "groupons" for Crossings and love using everyone of them! Can't wait to go back and try something else!
JBB
Yep. It's crap!. I should have read these reviews *before* going to Crossings. It's too bad, as the location and environment are nice. But the food sucks. The Chef there is clueless! Avoid this place unless you're just drinking, or maybe looking for chicken wings and fries. Otherwise, it's bound to disappoint!

LOVE IT. I have eaten at Crossings several times and found the food and atmosphere absolutely wonderful. great value for your money/ They have an extensive wine list. My favourite dishes so far are the mussels with frites and crab cakes. with a side frites ( I am addicted to those) My friend had the seafood pasta and said it was incredible. We shared sticky toffee pudding for dessert.... to die for.
this is among my VERY favorite places to eat.
Cafe
VERRRRY Disappointing. Went at 1 Pm Sunday hoping to eat lunch. The only menu they offer until 2 PM is a brunch menu. Ordered texas the $13 French toast with strawberries. Holy crap - since when does a diagonally sliced baguette count as "texas toast"? 5 *small* slices, which were cold. menu said all brunch entrees come with a side of toast and berries, but when I asked about this, the waitress looked at me funny and said "but your entree is toast and berries!" Left hungry. I've had appetizers far more filling. Paid $20 (with taxes and tip) for a coffee and a few cold french toast baguette slices. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING!! I've never done on line review before, but this meal was such a rip-off that I had to!

Service, food average. In an old house; decor nice. Over-priced for an unremarkable place. I won't go back

The food was good, menu had a change since the last time I visited. I was worried because i saw some negative reviews on here and thought the quality had gone down hill again, but thought I would check it out myself. Service was quick and friendly, food came out in a good time frame for what we had ordered and i wasn't disappointed. I also came on a slow Tuesday so the kitchen probably wasn't as overwhelmed as it would of been during the holidays.

I like it!. I've been to Crossings a handful of times now and love it. The food had some challenges in the beginning but each time I go back it is better and better. They do a good job at putting a twist on some traditional comfort/pub food to make it interesting. The atmosphere is great and the patio was amazing in the summer. I don't really understand the negative reviews on this forum, but to each their own. Perhaps they are expecting fine dining rather then really good pub food, sorry but the horse and hound is gone!

Lu J. Last night, we had our Christmas dinner at Crossings. The dinner was scrumptious, the service very efficient… all in all a wonderful experience. I would definitely go back and I will definately recommend Crossings to others.
Lu

Had group X-mas lunch. Service great. Soup special cold tasted like canned cream of mushroom. Shrimp appetizer Great! Entriee was seasonal sausage and saurkraut. Should have sent it back. Totally unacceptable - spoon of saurkraut right out of jar, other than mutard entree was terrible! Never going back - overall terrible.

Like the atmosphere. Just got back from Crossings with my girlfriend for dinner, first time being there.
And the food was pretty good, I had the perch and chips, which the perch was nice and light and flakey very tastey, but the potatoes were alittle under cooked (no biggie).
My girlfriend had the pot pie special, which looked nice, but was alittle on the rich side and alittle too runny, looked more like beef stew. All and all it was still good, and would likely come back espically in the summer, with the patio weather!

Can't believe this place is still open. It's discusting, gross, there a complete joke. I really can't believe whats keeping them open...it's gotta be the bar. Definately not the food the food sucks. I recommend going else where. I have only been there once and the experience was so bad I'm compelled to write another blog about it warning people to go somewhere better.....i.e. Mcginnis Landings, Bertoldis, anywhere but this hole.

Should come around.... My wife and I were there a few weeks ago for our wedding anniversary. We didn't want to go anywhere too fancy, and also didn't want to go anywhere that was too laid back. We live close by, so chose crossings. The place looks great...inside and out. Back when it was the "Horse & Hound" it was a really dated place, but now it's up with the times and looking great.

Atmosphere was good. We were there on a "live Band" night....so it was a louder then expected...but still great. Our server was equally great and attended to our needs in a timely manner. He did seem a little overwhelmed at times, but considering that amount of people there...I didn't mind too much. I'm in the business, so my understanding is a little more tolerant than most.

The food is where the mark was missed. It took about 30 minutes after ordering to get our apps. Our shrimp-dip dish was good, cold, but good. Our crab cakes were forgotten in the deep fryer and pulled out just before the charcoal stage...and still served them. They were very, very well done. They had some sort of asain slaw on there...that was good....would of rather had more of that to be honest. I ordered a lamb and rice dish. It was o.k. at best. I really felt sort of ripped off actually. It almost looked like a tv dinner....it was just braised chunks of lamb....and rice. Ne veggies, no sauce....it was all brown and mushy.
My wife ordered a "proscuitto & havarti" stuffed chicken breast...which came and with a huge surpirse....NO STUFFING!! We did mention to the waiter...and much to his surprise...he was shocked. He didn't bring the food out...but quickly adressed the issue with the kitchen and asked if we wanted a new one. We declined. It took forever to get the main courses...didn't want to wait any longer. He removed it from our bill.

It left us very unsatisfied in regards to the food. I did love the atmosphere...therefore my "Like" rating. We will be back sometime within the next little while. I know this restaurant has had it's issues since opening, I just hope that they're working on those issues. It would be a huge shame for a place like this to go to waste. It's in a great area, huge amount of parking....really something original! Fix the issues!!!!

Dissapointing. Heard a lot of (mostly) good about Crossings. We like something different than the usual pub fare. Unfortunately, we got different but presented and prepared with the same ability as any chain pub. Server seemed to want to be elsewhere. Unnecessary giant TV set in the tiny room upstairs where they seated us at a tiny table for two directly in the path fromt he door to all the tables in the room. Curried lamb fries app was flavourless. Vegetarian lasagna was effortlessly made with raw (not roasted as advertised) veg, slapped down on 5 pieces of lasagna noodle piled one on top of the other with sauce from a jar. Salmon had apparently evolved into a land creature it was so dry. Replacement entree of BBQ Pork Ribs was also overcooked. Management was sympathetic, tried to explain "concept" of lasagna. Will try one more time but the atmosphere and meals need some more tweaking. Growing pains?

This place is fantastic! I went with a group of people just after they launched they're new menu and we were not disappointed. After reading some reviews, I was hesitant, but people clearly are not informed of good food. Everything was fresh and delicious and the portion sizes were great. It is so nice to have a menu with so many options, from deep fried pub food to higher end, delicious entrees. The atmosphere is excellent and well cared for, and the servers were all very attentive and happy to be there. We had the duck, cajun beef and pear salad, burger, gnocchi, and more and it was delicious. Give this place a chance, you won't be disappointed!

Have been in a few times and after reading some of the overly harsh reviews decided to let everyone know what a lively, great place it is. The food is fresh and tasty. I asked the bartender for some suggestions and she picked 3 great options which my associate and I shared! You can tell they have fun while working, the Irish bartender and Lindsey were laughing and chatted with us! Great food, many many drink options and a lively atmosphere! Well done!

Great patio ruined by food, music, service. Had a desire to sit on a nice patio and heard Crossings had a great one. They do. Unfortunately, that and their beer selection are all they have going for them.

Ordered:
Fish cakes - extremely heavy, doughy, bland, and unnecessarily (and unnaturally) yellow (tumeric?)
Shrimp & Arugula salad - 3 shrimp, all unseasoned (literally - I mean nothing) and rubbery. Tasteless salad dressing formed clumps on the arugula... very unappealing.
Soy and Ginger Beef sandwich - Recommended by the server but unfortunately crap. Beef tasted a little like soy but no ginger flavour. Sandwich was sad and bare - some lettuce and some sugary-sweet pickled onions (diabetics beware) on an oversized (and stale) ciabatta.

Music: loud, varied between top-40, classic 90s/2000s, and dance. (Seriously? The Ting Tings, Jann Arden, and Bon Jovi in one sitting?)

Server: pleasant enough but rarely present. But why do (non-sports bar) places insist on having server uniforms that look like sports jerseys? (Especially with rear-end-hugging yoga pants? While I'm sure this is appreciated by a few customers, it's just not my thing at a place that charges $20 for an entree...)

Overall, good place for having beers with friends on a patio. That's about it.

Great atmosphere, average tasting food. I had heard and read mixed reviews about Crossings so I decided to try it for myself for the first time last night. The staff was great and the food looked great but the flavour wasn't there. We were all excited when our meals came to us but were all disappointed when tasting them. We did enjoy the atmosphere and would come back for that, hoping that the food will improve.

Awesome Food!. First time at Crossings late yesterday afternoon. Hubby and I had been day-tripping and stumbled upon this great looking grill/pub restaurant. Had to give it a try. Hubby had the dirty burger with fries and reported it was excellent. I had the pulled pork sandwich. I have never enjoyed a sandwich as much as this! The pork was so succulent it was untrue. I paired it with the tomato and red pepper soup. Simply awesome. Definitely home-made and worth a trip back just for this. We both had sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream to finish off. Wonderful. Our server, Isabel, was exceptionally efficient and very friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. We will be back! Great job.

Negative reviews almost.... Negative reviews almost kept us from enjoying our favorite anniversary dinner in our 11 years of marriage.

App. was the Beef stuffed potatoe poutine, while the wife originally fealt that it could have been hotter the taste easily won us both over.

Entrees were,

Pan seared chicken supreme for the wife. The temperature concerns were quickly relieved as this dish was served pipping hot. The overall dish was excellent including the scalloped potatoes which the wife could not stop raving about.

Perch and chips for myself, was a great a dish that continued the evening of delicious and beautifully presented entrees. While "fish and chips" would not be considered you usual fine dinning choice, the chef made it a welcome home amoungst the other offerings.

Desert was,

The Brownie choice for myself. I should have listened more closely when the waiter was clearly stating that it was not made specifically by the chef. The wife's desert was much better, and she is still reminding me.

Aloha cheesecake, was the absolute best cheesecake I have ever had. The thing being the cheesecake is always my default desert choice. How/why I ever let the wife talk me out of it, so she could have it, is beyond me. While I was given some charity tastes, I would have much rather had it for my own.

Overall, the experience was great, including our wat staff, so I hope others are able to look past the few negative (outdated?) reviews, and experience this great place to dine.

Bring the Maalox. I am afraid to leave my house. Knowing that some people that live near me think this place has edible food scares me.

I've been there 4 times (twice for lunch, twice for dinner). I am not a bitter customer, I've obviously given them the benefit of the doubt and returned. New 'chef' or old 'chef' the food stinks. How can you possibly screw up nachos and chicken wings? I think they've tried to be too 'creative' with standard pub fare in an attempt to impress locals.

Given the location and limited options around, this place doesn't need to re-invent things. Just be consistent and decent. Scorched, oil laden pita chips aren't a better substitute for nacho chips. My suggestion to the owner and manager is to visit a food show, go to other places, see what other people are doing. By other places I don't mean big chains.

Pathetic. My wife and I have come here twice before and did not have good experiences with the food on either occasion. We heard that they had a new chef so we tried them again last night in a party of 3. The patio was full so we sat inside in the bar. The place was muggy which left us wondering if the air conditioner was working. We had medium wings, nachos and fish cakes. The wings tasted exactly like they did on our second visit; mushy like they came out of a microwave and the sauce was like a mix of ketchup and mild hot sauce. The nachos were suppose to have "avocado salsa" but there wasn't even a hint of avocado. We asked the server who politely apologized and returned from the kitchen 2 minutes later with a small portion of unripe avocado slivers (no salsa). The avocado was actually hard. The fish cakes were burnt and should be renamed potato cakes because we struggled to detect any fish.
There was only one other couple sitting in the bar area who overheard us complaining about the food. They also had the potato cakes and were not happy about the food. They asked to speak to the manager but he never appeared. We saw him wandering around aimlessly but didn't approach the couple or us after our complaints about the food. Maybe he's tired of hearing about the terrible food?!
If there really is a new chef here, he too needs to be fired. Like many people who dine here, we are from the neighbourhood and had high hopes of a good pub in the area. This place has been a pathetic disappointment. Every new place has growing pains but this place has consistently delivered overpriced low quality food and bad service.
If we ever go back, it will be to have a drink and nothing else.

Tried to give a 2nd chance. What happened to the "pub fare"? I know there is a new chef and the food was okay (not worth the money). The prices are definitely inflated.
I enjoyed the atmosphere on the patio, but it's not a place that I would spend the whole evening.
I will say that the service has improved since my first visit, but the choices on the menu have not.
Kokyburneo
Not child friendly. Waited 40 minutes for kids' dishes...pizza was overcooked and my ribs were burned.
Would not recommend it despite the manager's efforts to fix and apologize

Disappointed! Use to be a favorite spot for weekly visits but then they got a new chef and completely changed the menu. The new menu has a very small selection and is very over priced. Too bad this little spot use to have big potential. Hopefully they will realize that their losing customers and bring back the old menu!

Over Priced. Entrees at twenty dollars plus, one would expect dinner rolls and ice water brought to your table. And not to be told by your waistress to keep your fork after you're finished eating your salad. Prices are too high for what is a very casual affair. Some patrons wore flip flops. Having said that the food was good, although small portions. The restuarant is like an over priced Jack Astors.

Disappointed..AGAIN. Visited Crossings on Monday evening, this was our 3rd time there. The first time was a little disappointing, however this time it was terrible. The menu has virtually no choices, the food was not hot, the prices were inflated. Without a doubt this was our last visit..3 strikes and you're out. Too many other good restaurants to visit

Two Thumbs Down. My husband and I went with a group of friends for dinner. First of all, we were seated in a room where we didn't quite fit. Everyone was squished in. Secondly, we ordered drinks and it took 40 minutes for our drinks, including water! The service was terrible! We were never asked if everything was ok or if we wanted another drink. The food was just ok - very small portions for the price and many of us left still hungry.

I will not go again and wouldn't recommend it.

Overpriced and poor. We first looked at the menu not long after the restaurant opened, as we were excited to find a one-of-a-kind restaurant in our area. My partner is vegetarian and is fed up with the limited choice in many restaurants. Crossings' menu was no different. Something like two vegetarian options, the same as on most other restaurant menus in the city. Didn't bother again until this weekend, when we decided to try the Sunday brunch.

What a surprise: no vegetarian options on the menu, unless you just want fruit. However, the server assured us that any of the other items could be made without meat. Score points for that, though the prices are very high for a breakfast menu ($13.99 for a standard breakfast that you can get anywhere else in the city for around $6, and not just at greasy spoons - try Next Door at Fanshawe and Richmond).

Food was slow to come. Coffee refills were very slow to come. We weren't mealchecked - just as well the food was okay. Though I say okay: the hollandaise sauce on the breakfast bowl was overpowering, to the extent that I couldn't finish it and I've been feeling queasy ever since. The server was quick enough to bring the bill, however (though again slow to bring the credit machine).

Overall verdict: expensive - and no reduction for no meat - slow service, and mediocre food. Will not be back.

Tasty food, great atmosphere, fun staff. I've been dining-out on a regular basis (probably 6-7 times/month) in London for more than 20 years now and I'm pretty excited to have a place like Crossings in the Hyde Park/Oakridge area. I've read all of the critical comments posted so far on this site and I have to admit they make some good points. However, I'll say this, the restaurant has only been open for about 5.5 months now and I can't think of any establishment that doesn't experience a shaky start. Furthermore, there were a lot of straight-up false accusations and criticisms in those reviews. For starters, I've eaten at Crossings several times and not once have I noticed the staff dressed unprofessionally or providing shoddy service to a guest. I'll admit the menu needed a bit of tweaking when they first opened but I've enjoyed every meal I've had there. My wife and I recently ate there on a busy Thursday night and had a great time in the Pub. I had the butter chicken with roasted potatoes and was thoroughly satisfied and my wife, who enjoys cooking, promised to emulate her meal of shepherds pie for us next time we felt like something a little more gourmet because she loved it so much. My son has also enjoyed the pub-fare at Crossings, and I know he and his friends frequently pop in to watch sports and eat wings and nachos. Before I sign off here I have to mention the beer selection. I have to admit I'm a bit of a beer connoisseur and while Crossings has a smaller election than places like Chaucers and Chancey Smiths located downtown, for the size of the bar Crossings has an INCREDIBLE beer selection. Everything from hard-to-find imports to quality domestics.

Keep up the good work people! You've got a bunch of fans counting on it!

Will not eat here again... ever. Tried it once for lunch with a good friend, we had been excited, this place is exactly what Oakridge needed. Location A plus. Had the lobster pizza. Got sick. Brought home a steak sandwich for the hubby - thankfully he has a stomach of steel. He ate it but we both wondered why the steak was all diced and cut up, not served properly on the bread? Service at best was a 5 out of 10. Waitresses was forgetting things we asked for, taking longer than normal for her breaks.
Second round for lunch - went back weeks later just in case it was as bad as I thought - to be sure - as I WANTED to like it. Bad move. Another friend of mine and I were popping tums and pepto all afternoon and night. She had a simple club sandwich with fries that looked OK and I had fish tacos and a water. I know, WHY would I do the fish? I normally love them but this was not a place to chance that. Maybe Gordon Ramsay should go check out their kitchen, there are reasons why we felt sick afterwards. They put this weird coleslaw on top of my tacos that I had to scrape off - awful. Service again, mediocre at best. The only thing I would ever have here if dragged back would be a sealed bottle of beer.

Enjoy It Weekly. We too have been to Crossings with and without our family on a number of occasions. We have found the service and food to be great(excluding the first couple of week/growing pains as suggested I guess). Our kids love the burgers and we enjoy going with friends for drinks on weekends. We'll be back and really look forward to the neighbourhood patio that hopefully opens soon!!!!

Very Bad. My wife and myself plus two friends were there on opening night , the service was terrible and the food was awful.Three of us got our meals after one hour and fifteen minutes,of which two had to be sent back, and the fourth meal was never served as they had run out of that particular item but never informed us until we asked (for the third time) 20 minutes after we had received ours,at that stage my friend said forget it as we were half way through our meal....i complained to the manager and he said he would look into it and get back to me....he never did.
We decided to try again two weeks later, putting it down to teething prolems but we had a bad experience again....Two chicken dishes still had the chicken frozen in them and again we complained but this time to the assissant managaer and again no response.
We tried again over Christmas and the food was awful for one of our dishes and this time I did not bother complaining.
Last night we decided to go for a drink (no food ever again) as i like the atmosphere of the bar and the owner just happened to be there whereupon i approached him to inform him of the problems that I had experienced and I was met with a very poor welcome and apparently when i left they made a laughing matter of my complaint (my nephew was sitting at the bar having a drink and overheard them).
Needless to say I will never visit the establishment again and i will make sure that I inform all my friends and colleagues of the poor performance of this Grill.....David Heffernan

I called to make reservations when crossings first opened, got the number from 411, the hostess stated no reservations were needed as they just opened. My husband and I went for dinner waited 45 min in the bar area, then finally got seated, we ordered our food, I ordered steak with the loaded baked potato, the steak was not cooked the way I ordered and was cold, the potato came with only sour cream, my husband had the burger-cold, I sent my food back, husband ate his, the proceeded to take my items off the bill-good, the bad thing was, I hadn't eaten, and then I noticed the bil, the phone number on the bill was NOT the one I called---as it turns out they opened with checking everything over, turns out the wrong number was printed by computer on reciepts, I called the number on the reciept from my table- man answered freaking out on me-saying Dont call again for restaurant reservations-I pointed this out to manager and he said I was wrong- he checked then realize they were wrong--- no thank you or complimentary drink for pointing this out-hope the man got something free!!! Will only go for drinks as they have a nice bar area!! Hope everyone gets a laugh out of this-- ps I kept the receipt for a laugh!!

Good Food, Decent Prices :). I thought the atmosphere was good, although the tables can be a little cramped. Our services was great, quick and friendly, and the waiter was dressed professionally (although I don't care what they are wearing as long as they are friendly and I get my food). Meals are priced very decently and there is something for everyone. This is not what I would call a fine dining experience but they serve a lot of great food like I stated at a reasonable price. I had the Caesar Salad (6.99) and the Meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetable medley (16.99) and it was quite delicious. Also ordered at our table was the Chicken with goat cheese, Sirloin steak with wine sauce and mushrooms, Creole pasta, and Pork chop. Everyone enjoyed their meal and I will be returning. Oh yeah, Wednesdays they feature Wolf Blass wine and the price is extremely reasonable for a bottle. In addition they have a large patio which I am looking forward to visiting come spring/summer.

Off to a dissapointing start. Brought an out-of-town family member to Crossings for dinner and was very disappointed with the whole experience. The service was horrible and it was not busy at all. The servers are dressed like they just came to work from the gym, wearing yoga pants. Our waitress must have forgotten about us and we were left without drinks and dirty plates on the table. The food was mediocre at best. The fish and chips were far too sweet and the batter has nutmeg or cinnamon making it taste like cake. Perhaps another visit is in order to give Crossings a second chance but next time had better be improved.
