Review Mai's Cafe & Bistro - London

Beth Benson
We love Mai’s and will often go out of our way to have a meal there. My husband just loves the mango salad. The pad Thai is so delicious too. The dining space is lovely and relaxing.

This place is great for takeout. The food is always so fresh and the customer service is lovely. Lots of colours and fresh ingredients. Great for feeding a crowd. Highly recommend! The Thai beef red curry is my personal favourite.

EDIT: AUTHENTIC. Their chicken fried rice is amazing. Freshly cooked to perfection and lots of amazing spices. I requested that they make it spicy, and they did not disappoint! Gave me an amazing chilli sauce to go with the rice! Friendly customer service and the vibe is very calming and relaxing with soothing music playing inside. Definitely going to be back to try out the Thai curry and pad Thai Unfortunately appetizers were too bland for my taste…. But I will come back to try the pad Thai and Thai curries. Dine-in is peaceful and I love the location. Employee is friendly and the restaurant has an overall calming vibe.

I’ve tried pad Thai at most locations in London. This has got to be top favourite for me. So good! Flavour is authentic, fresh, portion is perfect and price is very affordable! If you like a kick (spice) in your food, I highly recommend Mai’s homemade chilly flake in the jar.

My bookkeeper took me here for a business lunch. It is very small inside with only room for about 20 people at 5 tables. It is always packed because the food is AMAZING! We started with the appetizer spring rolls - delicious. Next we enjoyed the chicken and seafood Pad Thai. It was simply amazing and the portion was very large. We both are large men and could only get through half of it. Fortunately, they boxed it up so we can take it home and enjoy it later. For only $14 per plate, it was unbelievable. I will certainly eat here again and further I plan to use it for take out when we work late and don't have time to make dinner! Try it, you will love it! One of Wortley Village's best kept secrets.

My omlette was light and fluffy and perfectly cooked. The home fries were the best I have ever had. We even took away the green curry for dinner later and it was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

Quaint small restaurant in Wortley Village that serves traditional Thai cuisine, as well as other dishes that are suitable for local palates. Really enjoyed the rich flavour of the Green Curry with chicken ($13.99+tax), though wish the portion size was larger. The Pad Thai w/ chicken ($13.99) is a classic and makes you wanting more. Mai's platter ($12.99) has an assortment of appetizers to sample for the indecisive folks. Beautiful decor inside despite the unassuming exterior. Somewhat distinct restaurant from the other pub-style restaurants mainly lining the block. Worth a visit!

Best Pad Thai in London!! Green Curry was also so yummy and the hostess was so kind! The portions were generous for good pricing ($13.99/dish). A pleasant and clean environment for a delicious meal.

My most favorite place to order Thai food in London. When I order take out, they are quick to prepare my order and it is usually ready by the time I drive there. When we dine in, the service is amazing and the food is hot and delicious. Absolutely in love with the restaurant staff and food.

Really amazing food to be honest. Actual authentic flavors that brought me back to my time in Thailand. They woman serving was super lovely and you can tell they have a strong connection with all of their client base. Tom Yum soup is the favorite to get on a rainy cold day. Pad Thai was also really good!

Mai's is located on what almost appears to be a side street, which has a cluster of quaint shops, a pub, and this great little place. Inside there are seats for 30, and it's small in size but big in ambience. The server was friendly, prompt, and greeted regulars like old friends, even remembering one couple who apparently hadn't been in in a while. I had the green curry with chicken, which comes with a portion of jasmine rice. The curry is like a soup with broccoli, carrots, onion, green beans, and Thai basil. It's fragrant and very tasty. I have had this particular dish all over the place (Toronto, Owen Sound, Orillia, Orangeville, Edmonton) and this is easily the best. I generally like to mix the rice into the curry and did the same here. I ordered some chicken pad Thai to take with me for dinner later and I anticipate it will be just as yummy. I highly recommend Mai's and shall definitely return next time I'm in London.

This is a definite hidden jem! A must for lunch, dinner or take-out. The food is absolutely incredible. It's no wonder the reviews are so positive. The owners/staff are incredibly friendly and the restaurant is one of the clearest small businesses I've visited in a long time. Fantastic discovery a must if in Worley Village.

Food was amazing, service was great. I'm from Eastern Ontario and would definitely come back next time in london

I’ve been here many times and the food is amazing! I always get the cashew chicken. The good is so fresh, healthy and I love the big portion sizes. The owners are also very friendly 😊

Always delicious food and friendly helpful service. Always feel warmly welcomed. Love going to Mai's!

Love Mai’s! One of my favourite places to eat in London which happens to be in the super cute Wortley village. The vegetable curry is my favourite, super flavourful and a little spicy, also vegan. Very decently priced for the portion as well. The owner is also very sweet. Great place for Thai food!

Great food, great service, very reasonable price. One of my favorite go-to restaurants in London.
Be sure to call ahead for a table as it is very small. Very popular for takeout service. Be aware, no liquor license! This makes dining out very affordable.

Just moved into this neighborhood recently and Mai's serves the most authentic Thai food in the vicinity. Try the curries and Jasmin rice - it's mind blowing!

Second time was just as incredible as first! This time we chose fresh spring rolls with shrimp, cashew chicken with rice and red curry without rice. I ordered the latter and it was incredible. The broth was a tad spicy but awesome and i consumed all of it!

I often stop in here for lunch with friends. It's a great go-to place any time The pad Thai is delicious. The service is great and tucked away in Wortley Village creates a wonderful neighborhood feel.

We live within walking distance, and like to support local business, so have been going to Mai's since it opened. Their pad thai (veggie AND with shrimp) is delicious: freshly prepared with fresh ingredients, every time, and not too spicy or greasy. My vegetables were varied & colourful; even the carrots had fringed edges. As a vegetarian, I look for protein: my pad thai had both scrambled egg (traditional) and tasty, fairly tender tofu sticks throughout so I was very satisfied, and had enough for lunch the next day!
Our fresh rolls were lovely and included some mint (instead of cilantro), served with a tasty but light dipping sauce.
We will return, for other dishes (if we can help not ordering our favourite pad thai!), for sure.

Breakfast is a simple and a good price. If your looking for some delicious I pad Thai you need to come here. It Is a very generous portion and tastes amazing!

Came here with a bunch of friends; 3/5 of us ordered their famous pad thai, one got the emerald curry and another the ginger chicken.
I absolutely adored the pad thai!! It wasn't too greasy, but full of flavour. The ingredients were very interesting but generous... for instance, there were red peppers, tofu, lots of fried egg, chicken, and shrimp. Loved it and would definitely return, especially since it's located in such a quaint and homely Wortley Village! My friend also enjoyed her curry. It appeared extremely watered down but she claimed it was greatly flavorful and extremely spicy!
The waitress there was also very kind and cheerful. Her service (attitude, constant smile, and colourful eye makeup) truly made my day!

If you're looking for a casual date spot with tasteful decor and decent Thai food then I strongly encourage you to check out Mai's! It's a little out of the way being in Wortley village and all but the service is friendly and the green curry here is packed full of flavour. The pad Thai is a little small for the price but they don't skimp on the meat and veggies. I would also recommend the mango salad as a refreshing (but delightfully spicy) appetizer! Overall if you have money to spend and want a more elevated Thai food experience then this is the spot for you.

My second favorite place for pad thai. The flavors are great and the noodles are cooked to perfection. The portion size is decent, prices aren't too bad. The restaurant is small, not a lot of tables and if it's hot outside it'll be hot inside, the air-conditioning sucks but the decor is really nice. The server was really nice. I asked about vegetarian food, she said the chef would make anything veggie on the menu for me, which is always nice to hear.

I didn't like it the first time I went in but must have had a bad experience. They do an awesome breakfast and a great dinner, not to mention the service is always friendly and familiar.

Thanks ladies.

We'll be back. We were lucky enough to get the last small table in this unique restaurant in the heart of the village. With only 10 tables it is a gamble showing up without a reservation.

There is one friendly lady running all the tables, took only about 5 min to have our order taken. My wife and I had the pad thai and the spicy beef (red curry). They both were absolutely perfect. In the spicy beef the veggies were cooked to perfection.

Each dish is from $10 - $13. A bit pricey, I personally could use the dish a bit larger. Saying that I will definitely be back again!

Good food, affordable price.. Even after reading the great reviews on urbanspoon, Mai's was suprisingly good, not to mention affordable! The tiger shrimp rolls were a great appetizer, and the Pad Thai I ordered was delicious and extremely generous in terms of the portion they gave. It was a little spicy (warning to those who don't do well with hot sauce) so we ordered some milk to go with it. The only slight disappointment was the papaya salad, which was damp and soggy as opposed to crispy and flavourful. However, the dessert we had at the end (the fudge with icecream) was the perfect end to a lovely evening.

8.5/10 will definitely go again! They also have a range of more western/european food which we did not try this evening, but maybe I'll have some the next time we go.

Excellent food. We have been to this restaurant twice. The food is excellent...never been disappointed! Restaurant is small, service is good, Thai food is wonderful...no liquor licence...

Amazing. The food is always really really good, the service is always fast, the decor is nice and location is perfect. I've been many times and I've never been disappointed!

Delicious. Well I am truly sad to read of anyone who doesn't like Mai's . . . .we have been there numerous times and have loved it every time. The food has always been delicious! And Mai and Kai are both awesome! I have brought many of our friends here and they all enjoy it. Best cashew chicken I have ever had . . .and love the pad thai. Will be back again and again and again.

The pad Thai is consistently good and so is the service.

Aweful!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SO CALLED FOOD!. Terrible! The food was over priced and so greasy! It tasted burnt too. We had Pad Thai, and seafood pasta. The seafood had 3 shrimps, and fake crab. That was all. Oh, and a few vegetables. We wont be back again! To top it off, when I called to place my order for pick up, she said "I dont have time to explain where we're located - I'm busy!!" Well, that was nice. And the building is not marked with a name! We will NEVER GO BACK! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Best Thai in the city!. The quality of the food here is unbeatable! The staff are wonderful! It's a small restaurant, with no liquor license, but if you can wait to have your glass of wine until after dinner than this is the place to go! AMAZING!!!

Excellent food.

Excellent food. The service was good. It's a small quaint restaurant in the middle of Wortley Village. We will return. It's right beside our favorite coffee place, Fire Roasted Coffee cafe.

Amazing! Fresh Thai food. This place is right in the middle of the village and it offers a wide variety of options! Would come here more often.

Fantastic!. We had no idea what this cute little restaurant in Old South had to offer, until tonight. WOW!!! We had an amazing dinner of Thai cuisine that blew us away! We love the casual atmosphere in a beautifully decorated bistro. The menu has a substantial variety and we more than enjoyed our selections! Love the cashew chicken and red curry beef!!! spiced beautifully...presented artistically making us feel like we didn't want it to end! It's been there 8 mths! Definitely the Diamond of Old South!!!

How to find - great food. So yes, no big sign out front so can be hard to find...

It is located next to the old Red Roaster, it has an awning it, and a lit up hours sign in the window. Warning - not a lot of seats avail so call ahead.

great Thai, and a very sweet lady

Where is it?. I've been through Wortley 2 times and can't find this place, once was meeting another couple and we both ended up going elsewhere!

Authentic Thai in the Village!. Just polished off a scrumptious green coconut curry at Mai's Cafe! It was a prefect balance of sweet and spicy! My friend could not stop eating her huge helping of Pad Thai (seriously...she devoured it!). Beautiful decor with real Thai music videos on, feels like I'm transported back to Chang Mai, Thailand. Can't wait to eat there again this weekend...just hope I can get a table, as it's very popular! Definitely my fav new Thai place!

I had a fabulous lunch at Mai's yesterday with three friends. Charming server, soothing decor.

We shared four dishes. My favourite was Cashew Shrimp. The Mango Salad was a delicious balance to the spicy Drunken Noodles with chicken.

We'll be back!

Great Thai Restaurant with a Nice Atmosphere. My boyfriend and I had wanted to check out Mai's since its opening a few months ago. Tonight, we finally headed over and I'm so glad we did. Its a quaint place witha relaxed and cozy atmosphere. The staff was great and it was nice that the menu had both authentic Thai as well as Western food (great for picky eaters and kids). Prices were fair - $4 to $8 for shareable appetizers and about $8 to $13 for most of the main courses. To start, we had a plate of 4 delicious Thai spring rolls, followed Thai Green Curry with chicken and the Mango Chicken. The flavours brought me back to when I visited Thailand a few years ago, so when I said "authentic Thai" earlier, I meant it. The Thai Iced Tea was also fantastic. Service was quick, presentation was great, and our taste buds were tantalized - what more could you ask for?

I hope the third time is a charm. I have been twice, first time was during their first week open and we had a wonderful experience. Alhough we thought maybe they should have just focused on thai food, and let the pubs of wortley village do their thing. But hey, I guess its good for the odd couple where one wants authentic thai and the other wants poutine or steak. So first time I believe Kai served us and was so lovely and sweet. The second time we were served by owner Mai and it was atrocious! Besides the terrible service, it was super hot in there and there was no music, terrible obionce. There was a lot more diners in this time of course. But being a server myself I could recognize that she was not even trying to make things better. She kept hiding in kitchen and wouldn't give the sweet young host any leway to help her with anything. It's like she was micromanaging but not getting anything accomplished. It was crazy! I hope that she lets others take the reign. I really want this place to succeed. Great location and good atmosphere. Need to stick with what you do best Mai, sorry you say.
