Review Shanghai Chop House - Lethbridge

Had AMAZING SERVICE AND FOOD!! The food is made daily so it's fresh, way better than smorg I usually have. Best Chinese food I've had all year. Highly recommend to anyone who wants quality Chinese food. Will be back again and again.

Authenticity matters. The Original Shanghai Chop House has been my "go to" for 60 years now and it never disappoints. Tonight was no exception as the Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce (made in-house, BTW) is the best on the planet. Drop by today and tell Michael the Manager, that I sent you.

Booked my parents favourite local restaurant for their 50th wedding anniversary. Francis, Mike and staff went above and beyond to help make this event very special. Food was exceptional, the venue and atmosphere way above expectation and the level of service from Mike and Staff top notch. Thank you!

Definitely not the old Shanghai. Food came in small portions, big prices. Very bland food. Very little noodles and meat in the Beef Chow Mein. Garlic Ribs were next to being burnt. Will not be ordering from there again any time soon. Shame ate there once or twice a week for over 35 years before they shut down a few years back.

Staff could benefit from cultural training. Terrible serve from hostess who greeted me at the door with “I thought you had a bottle in your purse”. It’s 2022 Lethbridge do better.

I liked the food, but loved the amazing view. Book ahead of time if you want a window seat.

Great to have the original site back up and running! They did an awesome job on the renovations and the Food was as delicious as ever. Took our Granddaughter there and in watching her I remember myself as a young boy looking out those same windows. A Lethbridge Icon!

I been there twice and never going back there again. We went there looking for a restaurant with hot pot for a party. Once the hot pot came out it wasn't the kind of hot pot where you cook raw food in soup broth but some kind of stir fried dish put into a ceramic bowl. We just wanted to confirm with the waitress this was what we ordered. I think she was new cause she was like umm I dunno let me go ask the other waitress. She brought over another older lady who looked at our waitress like she was an idiot and really loudly said haven't you served hot pot before?? "Don't you know what it looks like??" Then she looked at us and in the same rude tone "have you never had hot pot before?, cause this is what hot pot is"... lol being Chinese canadian I have had hot pot before.. many times in Canada and China. We just laughed and said what ever we didn't wanna start anything. Also on top of all this their price is way too expensive for Chinese food even for Calgary standards.

Dirty and gross. Walked into this restaurant and saw just how dirty this place was kept, I knew the kitchen was probably worse. Left instantly!

Used to go all the time. Never again.. Thier lo mein I used to crave all the time it was so good! They were our favourite chinese place to go! But about a year it ago it got worse and worse. Rice is always burnt. Food undercooked or soggy. The quality just went right down the drain. Seeing that video didn't help. We will never go back. Its a shame.

So rude! Learn some customer service manners please!. How could any restuarant ever treat customers like this? This place needs to be shut down. Rude and doesn't need to be working with people. Learn some manners please!

Horrible. I just saw the video as well, and I am shocked that those people were treated like that, I worked in the service industry for 15 years I have seen a lot but that takes the cake! Nothing will close its doors faster than a video showing the world the horrific service and slop that was served to those patrons.....70 years will be destroyed in less than one....if it even makes it that long!

Please Sell the Sign When you Go Out of Business!. Last time I ordered take out it was brutal. Chicken balls were over cooked as well as shrimp. Clearly no pride by cooks. Stopped ordering from there and was gonna give it another try hoping it was a bad day but in lieu of the reprehensible/non existent customer service displayed in the video, these chumps are done. <br/><br/>Not taking back that fatty dish of gunk you served those polite and patient people is going to cost you more $$$ than you will ever ever know! Any owner with a molecule of integrity would have taken that dish back and refunded the money with no questions asked. <br/><br/>Please sell the sign to someone when you shut the doors down because it is the only thing redeeming about you or your restaurant.

Pan Fried Shrimp. So Delicious and Flavorful. Lightly fried in a yummy sauce...not spicy. Very good!<br/><br/><br/>-----25 Sep, 2014-----<br/><br/>BEST Chinese food in Lethbridge. I love this place as do thousands of others. I have many friends that will travel from out of town to get food from Shanghai. The food is very good and the service has always been great. I would not always believe everything you see on social media without witnessing this in person or knowing the whole story. The food is very good, fast for delivery as well.

Disgusting. In this age of social media, every customer has a powerful voice...just watched a video of the customer service and this place well never be the same....rude doesn't cover how this owner/manager treats his clientele....I haven't even eaten there but after seeing that video I never will....I hope the video goes viral and this guy shuts his doors

Do Not Go Here. They are terrible people with terrible food. There is no reason whatsoever to go here. They give a bad name to Lethbridge and do not deserve a single cent.

Shouldn't be in business !. This place is absolutely disgusting and has gone completely downhill. This used to be the only place it would eat Chinese from, now I won't even step foot in the place!! Not to mention, the HORRIBLE customer service. I highly reccomend not eating here, ever!!

Terrible. We ordered over 150$ of food from this place and it was the worst Chinese food we ever had. very overcooked and bland, also terrible service.

Food was bland, old, and over priced. It's barely Chinese food. Pretty much the same thing you'd get from the freezer section at Safeway but if you cooked it wrong and then reheated it. Service was terrible and the waitress was rude. It's crap don't bother.

The food here is bad bad bad I can make better Chinese food the only thing good about this place is the neon sign avoid!

Steadily getting worse. I have been going to Shanghai since I was a kid and have always loved it. But recently the quality of their food is steadily declining while their cost for delivery is rapidly increasing.<br/><br/>I ordered from them this evening and it will be the last time. Every item was overcooked, including the rice. They charge $5.00 for delivery if your order is not over $35.00 (it used to be $25.00 as recently as 2 months ago), then on top of that they charge $1.75 for debit and their machines don't even work. It took 3 tries to get the machine to connect this time around (last time took even more).<br/><br/>As the manager of the front desk of one of the cities busiest hotels I would not recommend them to a single one of my guests anymore and I will be pulling their menus from our selection as I refuse to subject our clients to such bloated prices and mediocre food as our fine city has much better to offer in every regard.

Shanghai is an old restaurant but the food and service are great. The restaurant could use some renos but I am always satisfied by the experience.

Worst Chinese food ever. Noodles were soggy. There was no flavour to anything! Best part was the fortune cookies. I will never get food from here again. I didn't trust the reviews! But they are true. Terrible food.

Hated it- horrible food, satisfactory service. <br/>I wa not impressed with the Chinese food- the meat was horribly chewy, the western food tasted like it came from a box. The chow mein had no noodles and way too much onion and cabbage. <br/>The decor was horribly outdated and seemed dirty. The service was okay, but nothing special. I didn't like that the workers were sitting and texting and chatting rather than worrying about the guests. Not impressed and would never come back

My family comes here all the time. We always get this for Christmas eve and have since my dad was a kid. I love this place. A few years ago, it was kind of greasy and leaving your mouth feeling gross, but now it is really good. I don't eat in the restaurant. I only get it to go. Wonderful place to get your Chinese fix from.

Terrible food and service. Owner was very abusive. The place is a mess. The bathroom is discusting. Would not recomend eating there ever!!!!

Good Server...Terrible Food. In the 30 or so years we have been frequenting Asian Restaurants world wide, tonight we may have experienced the most horrendous misrepresentation of Chinese cuisine ever. Undeservadly over-priced for the quality of product served. A grade school home economics student would balk at the presentation of this so-called "Shanghai Cuisine". <br/>We travel frequently under contract to various locals and chinese food is a usual go-to staple for consistent quality and taste. Lethbridge, Alberta's "Shanghai Chop Suey" Restaurant on 6th street and 3rd avenue was a monumental disappointment.<br/>Suffice it to say....for the first time ever, we left the meal mostly untouched...and when the server (the only good quality of this restaurant) asked how the meal was, we refrained from divulging our true experience...out of kindness for her. Tipped her well....and refused the large amount left overs to be doggie-bagged. Based on this experience, our recommendation is to pass on this restaurant if your loooking for TRUE Asian cuisine.<br/>To the owner of this restaurant....SHAME ON YOU.

Best Chinese!. I can't get enough of this place! Everything from their Wor Tips, won ton soup and egg rolls to the chow mein, pineapple chicken and fried rice is fantastic! I have yet to have a bad meal. The interior of this place has not changed much over the years, and its not exactly fine dining by any means, but it is still amazing!
