Review Taj - Lethbridge

Priteeka Limbachia
Best Indian restaurant in Lethbridge and beyond that, all of Alberta, by far! The food is so perfect, every bite is an explosion of flavours! The chef is a real artist. Will be coming here weekly!

Went there for lunch. Really very nice food, spice levels, presentation and staff service was very nice. Food definitely reminds india. Will highly recommend this restaurant if anyone is here in Lethbridge and in search for good Indian food

The Chef's front staff didn't show up for their shifts, and he was more than gracious to accommodate for that. Extremely pleasant, would come again 👍

I have tried nearly all the Indian restaurants in lethbridge and this by far, is the best and the most authentic Indian food I've had. And the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond in their service! 😁

Friendly staff, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. A new favourite for Indian cuisine

Great food! Very friendly staff! I have been to other places in Lethbridge but none of them had such great prices and maintained having great food. Spice level was great, spicy but drinking water was enough to keep it pleasurable. Will be my new go to Indian spot in Lethbridge.

Everything tasted very good and the serving staff were all very kind. Overall 10/10 experience, with delicious, authentic Indian food; my new favourite Indian cuisine in Lethbridge!

DELICIOUS INDIAN FOOD . LOVED THE AMBIENCE AND SERVICE

We have ordered pick up from here twice now and had the same issue both times. We ordered coconut rice and garlic naan, to go with our meal and received the plain version of both, but were charged the extra $1 for each. No, this is not a hill to die on, but i think that it shows the head space of the management. The first time we chalked it up to a language barrier issue, but after the second incident, I don't think we can give them the benefit of the doubt.

There was also a VERY long hair in the butter chicken, which sealed the deal and we will never be eating here again.

This review is for the West Side Location.
I love this place! I always get a craving for many of the tomato based curries. By far my favourite place for East Indian Cuisine. I've always found the customer service at the one on Columbia Blvd to be pretty good, but today the lady at the counter went above and beyond. I've lived outside of Lethbridge for a bit, so I haven't been able to go back there for a while. Still, when I went in, unable to talk because of a sore throat, the lady was more than accommodating. She even recommended a cold remedy. I left for a bit to pick up some medicine from the Shoppers Drug Mart, and when I came back to get my food, she had called her mother to confirm if the remedy was actually the right one or not, then suggested a different one. It was nice to have a complete stranger genuinely care. This was more than just customer service. I wasn't able to say it well enough at the time, but thank you very much, I really appreciated your kindness :)

The basic benchmark for Indian food is butter chicken and Taj is nowhere near the mark. Their food is so incredibly bland. Not even the faintest hint of spice. Also tried a friend's shrimp korma and lamb vindaloo both were nothing great either.

Save your arm and leg, Patak's jarred sauces are better.

Good service, best taste. You can't compare this delicious in lethbridge

Delicious Every Time. I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's always delicious. Great friendly service. I go here regularly. Best East Indian Cuisine in the city by far.

Awesome food. One favourite of mine the food is always good and service as well.

West Side Location Review - BAD!!!. Last Friday, about 5:15 p.m. I stopped at the buffet at the Taj west side location. It wasn't just bad - it was sour - rotten as could be. The food had definitely been on the buffet all day. I still gag thinking about it. I had one bite, swallowed, and realized what was wrong. I have eaten from the buffet a few times before and although not stellar, it was certainly ok. NEVER AGAIN! It was just wrong on so many levels.

Nope.... The best part of the meal was the fruit chunks... The butter chicken tasted very bland and watered down. The rice was not fully cooked. We won't be back.

Fan. As a fan of East Indian food, I come here often to get my fix. I've tried some other options in the city and this one seems to be the best. The butter chicken, naan and korma here can't be beat! We have always had good service there as well. I only have one small complaint - I've had the butter chicken at the lunch buffet and it just wasn't up to the usual par. Having been here many times before I knew this was unusual but there might be a little inconsistency at times (maybe this has to do with the buffet lunch? Either way I will definitely be back. The food is just TOO GOOD.

So-so. The appetizers, were amazing, spot on! but the food... I honestly didn't think it was worth going out for, I could have half assed it at home and done better unfortunately. it seems their cooks rotate often and nothing is ever done the same, or correctly.

Best in town. Best Indian in town. I go at least a couple times per month. Very authentic.

The owner of this place is great. He's a quiet guy, but your glass will never go empty, and you won't be left waiting for service. The food is good, home cooked Indian. Not a ton of frills, but lots of good, honest flavour. I would recommend the Taj to anyone looking for an Indian fix in Lethbridge.

Great Takeout. My favourite takeout! Butter chicken never disappoints, and service is always fast and friendly. Food always tastes fresh. Highly recommend this place for take out over any pizza, or Chinese food any day.

Pretty good for Lethbridge. The decor is a little simplistic but the food is good. I love Indian and this place didn't disappoint.

Good food, okay atmosphere. We came at lunch and ordered off the menu. The food was very good, and the portions were generous without being gluttonous (enough for a decent takeaway after our meal). The atmosphere is only okay, and the service is efficient, albeit a bit impersonal. Naan is excellent.

Enjoyable. Nice people. Great food. I'll come again for sure.

Not bad, Lethbridge.. Taj is truly a decent place to have Indian food in Lethbridge. If you're from a bigger city with obviously more prominent Indian population then do not expect anything of that caliber. It is tuned to the local appetite and that's called smart business there's nothing wrong with that. I'd go back again in a heart beat.

Just went here for dinner tonight. Neither myself nor my husband have been here before. We brought our 13 month old son as well. As soon as we walked in the (owner I'm assuming) put a high chair to a table and gestured for us to sit. He was on the phone with what seemed like a pick up order, which is fine. The waitress (his daughter) came to us and brought us water. She was pretty on top of filling our water throughout the meal. She seemed friendly enough, but her mannerisms were lacking a little. When someone says thank you, you should say 'you're welcome' or something along those lines. Not just a 'ya..' And walk away lol. But whatever. The meal was great! We ordered a plain naan bread to come out first (so our son could munch something) and it was so fresh and delicious. Yum! We ordered the dinner for 2. About $60. It was actually really good! I can't complain at all!! We got there at 5, and it was just us. Come 6pm, it was full and the owner was running around bringing everyone meals while the girl took orders and refilled drinks. I think they need to hire another waitress/hostess. After our dinner we waited a while for dessert. But again - it got a little busy and it was just the two of them. So I understand. We weren't in any rush, though our son was getting a little cranky. Next time, I think it will just be my husband and I that go, and we'll leave our son with a sitter. He did great! Just, the tables are a little smaller and having all those hot plates there with glasses... Lol. But it was a good experience. Will definitely be going back :) for dessert, we tried the mango ice cream (yum!) and the dumpling something-something lol. Which was unexpectedly warm, but oh so good! Will be ordering the same thing next time!

Good Indian food. I've been to both East Indian restaurants in Lethbridge and in general like them both but Taj definitely makes the best naan!! Lunch buffet is great value and I can get in and out quickly if I only have a few minutes, also Taj puts the naan out at the buffet table where Baadsha makes it one at a time and there is often a long wait to receive.

Ok, but.... We ate here last weekend. They do a vegetarian thali, which is great, because we're sick of ordering expensive vegetarian options off the menu and in effect subsidising the meat eaters. The thali was ok but lacked spiciness generally (not just hotness). My partner had aloo ghobi, which was also fine but not very spicy. Service was good, the beer was nice and cold. All in all, a good meal but could have been better.
Jeff
Excellent!! Wife and I had the dinner for 2. It was amazing! The pace food was brought out was great. We went on a Thursday and it wasn't busy. Definitely going back!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! The food is awesome! I love the lunch buffet. Only $12.55 for all my favourites! Naan, butter chicken, rice, etc! The decor is cool, the service is great and the price us right! Not as good as homemade, but nothing ever is. A very close second.

Best Indian Food I've had. I've been going to Taj since it opened. I've tried Baadshah and found it lacking. The food at Taj is always tasty, fresh and filling. I have yet to have bad service as it is usually the owner who has served me and although quiet, he is always friendly. If I had to find something negative about Taj, I would have to say that the meat portions are a little on the small size for what you pay.

Good but not fabulous. This restaurant is good, but nothing to write home about. Buffet lunch is your best bang for your buck, and would suggest that over an evening service. Westside location is not near as good as the southside location!
Stargirl
Okay, but there's better. I ate at the Taj a few times before Baadshah's came to town. The food was solid, but the color of the butter chicken was quite bizarre (like no colour I had ever see before and I have eaten butter chicken in many places). I must confess, as soon as Baadshah's opened, I haven't been back to the Taj. I do not know about the other reviewers, but first of all Taj is NO LONGER THE ONLY INDIAN RESTAURANT IN LETHBRIDGE. I recommend you try Baadshah's before you give the Taj a solid thumbs up.
Joe
It was nice.. If you're looking for a nice east Indian restaurant, taj is good but nothing special. The food is average and service the same. It wasn't a negative experience but it wasn't anything to write home about either.

Service isn't the best, ackward one might say. Some of the best Indian food in Alberta
Canada_abu
Good variety of veggie dishes. The food was lovely, great variety. The service was ok and the restauarant was fairly quiet but a very enjoyable meal.
Jason
Excellent as close as u will get to true indaun food without going to india

Oh so tasty!. It's about time Lethbridge got some ethnic restaurants. Taj's serves up real authentic tasty Indian delights. I LOVED the egg plant dish. Service is slowly but surely improving.

Besides the room temp water, awkward serving mannerisms, and dirty deep frying oil, our main courses were very flavourful. My omnivore friends describe the coconut shrimp and butter chicken to be fresh and very moist. I had the vegetarian komar which the braised veggies was saturated in a curry like sauce. The garlic nan is a little overpowering it took away from the dishes, so the plain is a better complement to such a flavorful meal. We also has some coconut rice which cured our tongues of the spices with it's mild flavor and coconut shavings. The only thing I would not suggest is the vegetable pakoras, they strived looking very dark possibly due to a dirty oil but it was also dry. The sauces it came with was extremely necessary to get that down. Overall this is a fairly decent place for food, but I'll probably get takeout next time.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the food and service was BAD! I'm a server myself and it pains me to get terrible service! I won't be going back anytime soon.

Bad First Impression. A recent first visit to Lethbridge's only East Indian restaurant left me with a less than great first impression.
My biggest complaint was the tandori chicken..it came almost burnt on the outside while the inside was literally bloody raw. The waiter at first said it was just the color inside but when he looked closer and saw blood running he took it back . It was replaced with another plate of extremely rubbery chicken. The main entrees were adequate..not as flavorful nor as fresh as we had hoped they would be.
Our dessert was again, quite bad. It tasted old and almost freezer burnt . On questioning our waiter he admitted to bringing them in frozen and just defrosting them and reheating them.
I don't think I would rush to return. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 5. Not the worst food or service nor one of the best.

Good Food. Just had the lunch buffet at Taj in Lethbridge today. Best lunch I've had for a long time. (I eat lunch in restaurants about 5 times a week.) Great service, explanation of what the different foods were. Not pricey either! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Radioactive butter chicken??. We have had takeout twice from Taj. We had the butter chicken and naan bread the first time - below average, but it was very busy so we thought we'd give it another shot.
The second time we had takeout we had butter chicken, jasmin rice, naan bread and channa masala. THE BUTTER CHICKEN WAS BRIGHT PINK. Like nothing i've ever seen before - I wish i'd taken a picture. The power went out right as I arrived to pick up our meal - perhaps the chef was in the dark and couldn't see the abnormal color of the butter chicken. It was also overly creamy and lacked appropriate spicing.
Twice burnt by Taj - I will never go back.

REALLY BAD Experience. I wouldn't recommmend this place. All 3 of our Curry's had the same taste.... TOMATO SOUP! Yes that's right. I could of sore they opened up a can of Cambells Tomato Soup, threw Chicken in and served.

I will never go back.
@jke553
It was ok. The service seemed slow and confused and they kept running out of food items at the buffet but the restaurant seemed not that busy at that time. I liked the food, but it was my first indian restaurant too
DariaAboutTown
TDF Butter Chicken!!!!. Tried out Taj last night and my husband and I both loved it. The Butter Chicken is RED (not orange, but bright red!) It's so mouth watering you want to lick the plate! That + basmati rice and yummy Nan bread. We'll be back!
Rob
Service is bad, but worth the food!. If you are stuck in Lethy, then this is the only Indian place in town! Food is good, naan is tasty! Service is hit and miss.

Hot not hot. Hey the service bad.The big lady there she never listen to me and my wife, she created her own story which was so boaring.

Highly reccomend the lunch buffet. Unique and authentic. Tasty food, too!
Diane
Buffet selection is good at lunch. A la carte dishes at supper are very small for the price.

I've had way better Indian food before but it's the only place to get Indian in the city. The service has been terrible every single time I've been there. Prepare to wait a long time for mediocre food. The chutney's are terrible.
Carmellia
AWESOME!!. Beautifully decorated. Elegant and tasteful menu. It is a buffet with several traditional options. I recommend reservations or there is a bit of a wait, a well worth it wait.
Definately the best restaurant in Lethbridge!
