Review Sawa Japanese House - Lethbridge

Sarah Russell
The beef curry that I had was very good, however I suspect that it was a pre-packaged curry spice mix that is popular in Japan. I would have preferred a homemade curry. Also there were no chunks of beef, just a few tiny, and I mean tiny, and few, pieces of beef. I was not impressed by this. It was by no means generous at all. My friends said the Japanese 'pancake's' were good (I always forget the name of them). They both ordered half sizes. Complimentary tea was provided which was nice, however we had to ask for more as we were given a very small cup each. A teapot of tea would have been more appropriate. Pretty much the photos that I have posted here is the extent of their menu also, which is very disappointing. I can totally understand not wanting to go into the sushi end of Japanese cuisine, (this is really a separate entity of it's own) however additional options would have been much better. Even 4 or 5 more options to keep things more interesting.

The place is really small (it's a take out place), but there are two tables for four people, and one table for three people. The menu is not that big, but all the food is delicious. Highly recommended to anyone. It's authentic Japanese food, the family was really friendly.

Lovely people and food. They have little trinkets for sale too. Nice tiny place with a cozy atmosphere. While online it didn’t say that their menu featured katsu items on their own or with their curry (at the time of writing this). It’s only pork katsu, though.

Cute small restaurant. I had the miso soup which was delicious. The broth was hot and had a good balance of saltiness, sweetness and umami. The noodles were also done very well.

As someone who has visited Japan on multiple occasions, this food does not feel authentic, or taste good even on its own merits. The ramen I received had an excessive amount of ginger; to the point where that was all I could smell or taste. The dash tofu's texture didn't feel right and the soup it was in may as well have been colored water. The lady at the front was very nice, so I feel bad saying this, but I have to be honest. The food I received was poor.

One of our favorite places to eat in Lethbridge. Shortly after returning from our travels in Japan, we searched for authentic Japanese food and came across SAWA. It was all we had hoped for and more. Ayumi and her mother are welcoming hosts with the kindest hearts. We love SAWA

I just heard about this place and had to try the okonomiyaki. It was absolutely delicious, as was the chocolate tofu cake I had for dessert. The lovely people at the counter provided great service as well. I highly recommend eating here.

We show up at 2:27 and they stayed open for us. We had a great conversation. We got to practice our Japanese Very friendly and great food If you call ahead they will have your food ready for you. Wish they had a lunch combo of Ramen and Okonomiyaki then I could enjoy both.

this place is amazing! you need to check this place out there is a bit of a wait for the food but good food takes time and these people know how to make good food. went there and got great raman and okonomiyaki. would rate this place a sold 5/5, the raman noodles are great and hold the broth so you get great flavors while you slurp the noodles, this place was so good i went twice in one day!

Delicious, and fresh! I had the shoyu ramen, husband had the miso and it was delicious! (We swapped spoonful of each to try) Also tried one of the okonomiyaki, unsure which variety as my husband ordered it for us to split. Sooooo fantastic! We will definitely be back! The only downfall is that now I'm craving ramen every day! amazing service as well, and The shop is tiny and quaint! Love it!

The food was fresh and delicious. We can’t wait to go back and try other dishes. Our three year old daughter loved the okonomiyaki too. Very friendly staff.
