This is a fantastic little place in Belmont Village! Highly recommend.

Love their breakfast - I always get the "big breakfast" - a few slices of bacon, a couple sausage links and a brazed slice of ham, 3 over-easy eggs, home fries (THE BEST!!!) and toast.
Really can't say enough about the home fries! I know there's paprika in them, but I'd love to get their recipe...SO AWESOME! :)
Also love their banquet burger and fries. Hot beef and turkey sandwiches are great as well.
This is now my go-to breakfast place.
I love checkerboard, its a cute little gem. I have been going to for years. I usually get their tuna salad sandwich, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and pancakes. All of these items are sooo good.
Great food and friendly service!. We go to the Checkerboard often and it is always great! The breakfast is consistently good no matter what we order. I have been there for lunch a few times as well and have enjoyed all my meals.
The service at the Checkerboard is really what sets it apart. They know many of their customers on a first name basis as well as order preferences and whats going on in their lives. This is truly a family restaurant.

I've been going to checkerboard since I was young. There food is good and it's fair priced. I also have a hard time picking what I want and end up regretting it and wishing I went with my first choice. It's not hard to pick favorites because there food is really good to chose a favourite from. :) I plan on going again as my mom loves it there and personally knows the owner. I reccomend going its quite and warm and friendly with good prices and good food.

Before I had even entered the building, I was already receiving excellent service at Checkerboard.
My server eagerly welcomed me at the door and was incredibly friendly, getting me seated and making me feel very at home for my entire experience. The diner's design made me feel like I was visiting family, and my server's attitude reinforced that. Server said goodbye to each individual person who left and welcomed each individual person in, knowing all regulars by name. Made great conversation that made for a warm atmosphere.
Server was very confident about his cooking abilities which gave me high hopes for the food, and those hopes were met easily. My pancakes were perfectly crisped on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the flavour was great. After eating, the server made it clear that I was welcome to stay for as long as I'd like and we chatted about the area. Even more, when I walked past the Checkerboard later in the day, I was met with recognition and the same friendly service.
After just one trip, I already feel like family and I will absolutely be coming back soon. The best breakfast in Kitchener - don't miss this one.
I met a friend there for coffee on March 15/22. Mike, the owner, was very kind, friendly and didn’t push us to order anything but our coffee(which was really good with the 18% cream). The Checkerboard is very similar to “Cheers” where the regulars were clearly known by Mike and staff. The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly and my friend and I have already booked a time to meet there again soon. We will try the food (which looked and smelled really good) in our next visit.
Amazing place. Great BLT sandwich. Amazing home made soup.
Even better are the owners are there servicing their guests.

Great breakfast here. Well cooked bacon, real potatoes for home fries but fried up crispy with delicious spices.
Hands down best coffee from a breakfast restaurant.
This restaurant is a gem. Comfort food. Simple decor. Affordable. For those of us who grew up in era of family restaurants this place nails something that hipster hangouts cannot. It is also nestled in the timeless and wonderful Belmont Village. I will be back and recommend this place to others.
Always love coming here the family is super friendly , always great service and the food is always delicious, this place does not get enough credit!!! Do yourself a favour and go check out this gem!!!

My parents love their fish and chips and my favourite is the club sandwich.
Once again the owner of the restaurant greeted us happily, and we had a great meal.
