Review The Grizzly Grill - Kingston

Cannot go wrong with the prime rib! Wife had the Canadian pasta and we shared the Grizzly salad. A very good night out for our anniversary with a table beside the fireplace.

Great meal, as the hostess mentioned, service was going to be alittle slow due to the kitchen staff being overwhelmed, we didn't mind. The food was good and fresh.

I have been to Grizzly Grill a couple times in the past week or so and it’s been nothing but extraordinary food and service. I don’t know where to begin, all the staff have done amazing with the covid restrictions! I feel like at home every time I open that door! The doormen are surprisingly very polite and well mannered! The bar staff are exceptional as well as the servers and chefs. I want to give special thanks to the managers! I came in tonight and had a blast, I am excited for my next trip there .

The food was delicious. Staff was super friendly and attentive. It was relatively quiet since I went on a weekday night, but i enjoyed the atmosphere.

Really disappointed in our experience this weekend. We made reservations a week in advance and asked to be seated upstairs. Instead we got seated downstairs in a booth next to a large light that wouldn’t stop flickering every 30 seconds. Okay, we can deal and didn’t complain but the simplest things that are so easy to accommodate make a big difference. The food was… just okay, and nothing special. When we asked to substitute sides, we were charged an additional 2 dollars a swap. I get upselling if our group had asked for something more premium or not on the usual menu for sides, but this was just a simple “if you want something different, you have to pay”. It is so disappointing that they don’t offer a choice. This “tasteless” form of price gouging felt very petty and unsettling. Service was good, but I felt bad for the wait staff because it’s really hard to be generous after the restaurant takes full advantage of you. We just wanted to leave ASAP before they up-charged us for something else. We will not be returning.

This is a really great place for a night out. The drinks are great, the food is always good, and the staff are very friendly.

Went in for a birthday dinner. Server was very friendly and assisted quickly. Everyone's meal was well enjoyed. Drinks were worth the price. Table decided they would return.

The last two times I’ve been here the service has been terrible and the food sub par. Dined for dinner with my fiancée last night and we were seated upstairs in a corner table that initially had no chairs. The server brought two over. Took 10 minutes for someone to finally come over and greet us with water. Ordered wine and waited another 10 minutes for that and to order our appetizer and food. We got the garlic shrimp as an appetizer and it was lacking any flavour and the bread to accompany it was so burnt so I asked for it to be replaced and was challenged. Finally got bread that wasn’t burnt, but no apology over it. We ordered the steak and avocado salad. We waited 40 minutes for that and then had no steak knives to cut the steak. Our server never came to check on us once, and we had to flag down other servers to ask for drinks refills as she was nowhere to be found. Our plates were never cleared and by this time it was over 2 hours so we got up and decided to go downstairs and pay. We were told by the manager all the machines were down so the receipts had to be hand written. Again, waited for our server to do this who had disappeared again. I get technical things happen, but maybe let people know when it does so they’re not sitting at their table waiting for food to be cleared and their bill. This used to be one of my favourite restaurants but sadly it seems to have gone downhill after COVID. Likely won’t be returning for a while. Can get better service and food at a chain restaurant.

It's a decent eatery and a lively nightlife place to go but I find that the food pricing doesn't match up with its quality or portions. It's a nice atmosphere though and a decent stop for a nice meal.

Had a great time at the Grizzly Grill, the food was better than expected. I ordered the surf and turf special (cheaper on Saturdays), and overall it was a pretty decent meal. The lobster was soft and buttery, the potato gratin was flavorful but the steak was overdone and the vegetables were drenched with butter. Even though it was on a discounted day, I thought it was pretty expensive for the amount of food you got and the quality was only alright. There aren't that many places in Kingston that can do a good steak so I wouldn't mind coming back and having this dish, but at least take your parents, so they can pay!

Impressed, would go back!. Overall, I am impressed with the Grizzly Grill. I visited with a party of 17. The service was a bit on the slow side but the food more than made up for it. I had the maple salmon and it was cooked to perfection. The barley/corn side dish was also delicious. If I am ever in Kingston again, I would happily come back!

All around experience. The Grizzly Grill can grill! I had a steak and it was cooked to perfection (better than the KEG!) and my partner had salmon that she loved. I would go back for the steak and the warm cabin feel. Good service. Check this place out

Great Date Night. Tasty food, great service, superb atmosphere-it's a fun and relaxed place to spend a date night out!
Our server Alistair took great care of us during dinner where we enjoyed grilled calamari to start. My wife had the ravioli and I enjoyed the chicken & ribs. Both were delicious. The fun part was watching the kitchen cook our meals. After dinner we went upstairs and took a seat at the bar where Brooke greeted us with a friendly smile and attended to us. We didn't realize how big it was upstairs with the pool tables and ended up staying for a couple hours playing pool!

A great date night out!

Thanks Grizzly Grill!

Great experience - I recommend!!. The menu has changed a lot since the last time I was there which was around this time last year. The changes and additions are fantastic!!! There are many more items from the grill. I came in with my girlfriend and her family. We started with the spinach dip and it was incredible, just how I remembered it. For a main I had the chicken and ribs, which is one of the new additions and I loved it. I was sold after the server explained the made in house BBQ sauce and the taste matched the description. She also recommended a delicious bottle of Italian red wine (I think it was campioleti?). I very much enjoyed my meal as did everyone else at the table. Others ordered a pizza and pasta dishes. The atmosphere was also very lively and enjoyable to dine in.

All in all, the service and food were awesome and we had a great night. The 'in laws' approved :) and I would definitely recommend the griz to friends and family.

We will be back!!!

Not Impressed...AT ALL. Was there last Summer with my wife on one of our Kingston sight seeing and shopping trips.
It was my birthday I believe.
Her nacho platter was so-so and my steak and fries was a disaster.
Ordered medium rare and got a chunk of grizzly over-cooked and leathery piece of so-called meat.
I sent it back and waited a long 20 minutes or more for another. This one was just ok. Fries were sparse and overdone with no flavour.
VERY long wait for food...about 40minutes from ordering.
Horrible wait staff service too.
We were virtually the only ones in the place and still no service to even ask if we wanted drink refills or how our meals were. All they seemed to do is lean on the bar and talk about the boys they met last night and gossip.
We left and will not go back.

Really bad slow service. The staff is not trained well, doesn't know answers to food and drinks on the menu.

I love the alligator and I am a picky eater. Completely surprised by it and the blackened potato salad.

A decent meal. Used a groupon on Friday night for dinner. We ordered the spinach dip as a starter. It was good and the pitas were a bit crispy but still chewy and warm (a good mix), but the dip itself tasted pre-made and certainly did not seem to be an in-house creation.

I ordered the smoked chicken pasta which was good but not great, and my friend ordered the prime rib, which was medium rare and quite good. The prime rib is a safe choice at the Grizz. I had wanted to order another pasta and add the smoked chicken, but was told they could only add the regular grilled chicken. I'm not sure why they couldn't accommodate such a simple request, since the only difference between the pasta I wanted and the pasta I got was red pepper instead of asparagus respectively. The service was average but a bit on the slow side.

Overall it was a decent meal, but I'm glad I had the groupon to make the price more palatable.

Pretty Good Food!. We were looking for a place to watch the Euro 2012 final and we decided to visit this place. When we walked in, the place was empty, apparently the downstairs doesn't open until much later than the upstairs. So, we decided to head upstairs. It was empty, there were only three people behind the bar (all servers) and us. We chose the table which was facing the TV screens. We asked the one server if she could lower the music and turn up the volume on the TVs. She asked her manager and gladly did so, she was very kind about it. The upstairs is huge, there are tons of tables and a few pool tables as well. There are also a ton of TV screens throughout the whole area. We ordered a bunch of appetizers as we were going to be there for a while. We first ordered the chicken wings. We ordered the first batch with mild barbeque sauce, and the second batch with honey mustard sauce. The mild barbeque ones were okay, but the honey mustard ones were awesome! I highly recommend the honey mustard ones. The only thing I found about the wings were that they were expensive, only eight small wings for $10, pretty pricey if you ask me. Then we ordered the smokehouse poutine; pretty good poutine but again, very pricey, $11 and it was a small dish. The next item was the spinach dip, this dip is beyond amazing, you definitely need to try it! It comes with a large serving of pitas and the spinach dip was warmed to perfection, AMAZING! After that, we tried the brie calzone, which was a huge disappointment. It was just a huge pocket of air, with a small lining of brie cheese and a small salad on the side, very disappointing. I wouldn't order it again only because it cost $10 and it wasn't that good. The service was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. I would visit again and try a few different items. It's worth a shot, it might satisfy your taste buds!

Great meal. I'm really not sure why this place gets such bad reviews.... i bought a groupon for this place on a whim as my boyfriend recently got posted to CFB Kingston so we're new. so, we got a pretty good deal on the food. we got the app platter (wings, ribs, onion rings, spinach dip w/ pita and some dipping sauces). it was fantastic! i don't care for onion rings but my boyfriend raved about them and they were very crispy. i got the american pizza, which was admittedly pretty typical, but definitely tasty. my boyfriend got the smoked chicken pasta which he enjoyed a lot. i'll admit it's definitely pricey, but my groupon was worth $50 so we went all out (ordered coronas with our meal too). overall id say give it a try! maybe kingston locals have higher food standards but we were totally satisfied with our meal and will return!

Probably one of the worst meals I've had in a long time--- and it wasn't even a good deal. Back ribs are usually meaty with a flavorful, BBQ sauce. These came with a thin, uninteresting sauce and an odd fish-like flavor! Truly horrible! You can do better than going to this place.

Blah blah blah. Got pizza here, it was decent if anything

Indifferent food, indifferent service. Waited nearly an hour for food that was bland if not tasteless. Steak sandwich appeared fried and was tough. Pizza base looked prepared. Salads and bread were good. 5/10

Not recommended. Had my second experience here last night, and it was even more disappointing than the first trip. Overpriced for below average food basically nails it. Salmon was ok at best, the brie chicken was horrible. They did a great job with the space, and I enjoy the atmosphere, but I don't think I'll be returning for the food.

Going downhill. I agree with Kingston Omnivore. I remember the Grizz as a good place to dine but it has disappointed me too many times in the recent past. The only reason I go now is because it can accommodate large groups.

Cheesy.

What happened??. Used to be one of the best restaurants in Kingston with its innovative menu and casual dining but now seems to be drifting between an upscale student joint that charges upscale restaurant prices and a bland road house (but it does serve alligator!).

Bring back the old Grizz or just change it to the other Hub restaurants in the area and go for cheap and cheerful.

To top it off, the last few times the service has been not just bad but abysmal.
