I love Akira - fresh, filling, and convenient for a satisfying lunch, take out or eat in! my go-to is the sashimi bento. it has never let me down! a favorite for me and my colleagues,
A bit pricey for an average undergrad student, but the quality is great! The salmon rolls were hugeeeeeeeee! And when I mean huge, I meant the sashimi not the rice.
I enjoy going there. The place is nice and cute and adjusted to modern japanese architecture.
Great place, too bad it's far away.
The waiters are pretty quiet, nothing crazy or that welcoming. But that shouldn't be a turn off unless someone does something absurd to you.
We did take out and the quality is absolutely there. The rolls are big and the size of the fish was good for my taste too! We got the pink salmon roll, the unagi roll, and the futomaki. If you want the sauce not on the rolls, you should tell them ahead of time!
One of the best sushi restaurants in Kingston. The special rolls are amazing and they actually fill you up. Quick service as well, which was surprising because everything looked like a great piece of art. I usually don't take pictures of my food because I just want to eat it right away but I just had to for Akira's sushi.
Great Service & Quality Sushi, which you Pay for. Absolutely magnificent sushi and great service, just see the pictures!
Slightly pricey, but just remember you are paying for the quality, which is worth it.
Excellent !!. My family had Loveboat at Akira and it was just lovely !! Also the decoration for spider roll was fantastic and so real.
Nice Presentation
Great Service
Perfect food !!
I have been to Akira three times and enjoyed the food each time. The sushi and sushimi as well as the tempura were all excellent. Service good . I recommend it!
Delicious food, nice presentation, wonderful service and atmosphere.
Good food, great presentation; some service hiccups. I'll get the hiccups out of the way first: upon bringing the miso soup, we had to ask for a spoon (duh); the edamame beans were a bit overcooked (too soft); and the waitress neglected to ask us if we wanted dessert (simply brought us the bill... it wasn't real busy either). Probably just as well - we ate porcine quantities - but we wanted to try the red bean ice cream (ok, I wanted to try it) and others wanted to have green tea ice cream (not for me, thank you).
Ok, so fine, but as the food goes, it was awesome. My husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and I shared their seaweed salad. The salad contained seaweeds I'd never seen before, and the dressing it came in was just lovely (not too sweet). Even the M-in-law, who wasn't exactly raised on exotica in the kitchen, enjoyed it. We also shared edamame beans that we felt were overcooked, and a miso soup that lacked the bits of tofu and seaweed I'm normally accustomed to (or have I been having some bastardized version of it all this time?).
Ok, the rest... I'll try to list it, but it was a lot, so I'll forget a few, I'm sure: teriyaki salmon with rice (to provide one "standard-ish N-Am" option), herring sashimi (or was it mackerel?), salmon nigiri, tuna nigiri, unagi nigiri, red snapper nigiri, california rolls (made with crab, I guess), and a salmon roll, as I recall. Oh, and a SPIDER ROLL :) :) All were very good, in my opinion, with plenty of fish and other flavourful things (when compared to the amount of rice), and rolls were pretty manageable to eat (vs some of the giant ones you get sometimes that make you look like a toddler at Chuck-E-Cheese's). The spider roll's soft-shelled crab was beatifully crispy, not to mention splendidly presented. I also enjoyed the salmon teriyaki, btw, with its nice sweet sauce, fried vegetables and nice rice. The fish portion was huge (it'd be too much for 1 person for sure).
We had some 'house' green tea too; I can't figure out what the "new" flavour was in there (sesame?) but it was neat.
Good food but service kind of sucks, we went the whole meal without drinks.
Kingston sushi sucks. Plain and simple. I try not to be a sushi racist. I don't care if it is made by Koreans (Asha, Take, Sushi-Ya) or the Chinese (Sakura). But generally, it is overpriced, has a horrible rice:fish ratio (R:F ratio is ever so important),
Sincere, I had doubts that I would eat something tasty here. One minus... I'm not a connoisseur of Japanese cuisine and the menu without any photos made it difficult for me to choose something. My gourmand instinct has never lied to me😄. Very tasty and full. Something I have never tasted before. I recommend this restaurant.
Ordered from here twice now and it is probably some of the best sushi in town. Large sushi roll pieces and it all tastes amazing. Highly recommend the Salmon Lover & Tuna Lover rolls. Everything is always delicious, and excited to continue ordering from here!
A great quiet atmosphere with attentive and friendly staff. A constant pick for me and my partner. Quality is fantastic and food is always amazing!
Fresh and delicious. Friendly service. Calamari tempura perfectly done. Maki rolls beyond compare 😊 Sushi and sashimi was phenomenal. Thank you!
Really good quality sushi. Big 2 bite rolls and sushi are fresh and delish. Great Service, and the entire team is nice and friendly. Go there, eat there, love it there!
Bento box with avocado/cucumber/ bell pepper/ mango roll, avocado/ cucumber roll, vegetable gyoza, salad, orange, and miso soup ( not pictured ). Fresh ingredients , quick service. Also had tempura which was 👍👍!
Great service, great food, great prices and my favorite sushi restaurant in town. I lost my wallet there and the owner hand delivered it to my house! I am so thankful and he has gained a life long customer.
What a wonderful experience my husband and I just had at Akira ! The fish was fresh, the presentation was great, and the portions were beyond gracious. The staff were all a delight- very courteous and eager to please. Cannot wait for our next visit! 10/10.
