Review Ramekins - Kingston

This gorgeously decorated restaurant with the soft music playing, the gas fireplace on & the various seating areas was outstanding. We were 2 for lunch. The menu had a wide variety of choices. The food was superb! The gentleman who served us was extremely attentive. My friend & I will be returning & spreading the word of this great restaurant.

This is a great family restaurant. I wouldn't call it fine dining. I would say excellent home cooking. The prices are terrific, the staff are exceptional and knowledgeable, the menu varied and the food is good. This is a popular brunch place. I had canneloni which was very well made and authentic. The restaurant itself, as far as decor, is about a 2 star, but if you can look past the dated decor and peeling paint, the food is worth it.

Had a great experience here for Breakfast! Very cheap, good quality food! A hidden gem for breakfast! We had very quick service, 30 mins from sitting down we had finished our meal on a Sunday morning! This is definitely going to be a regular visit from now on!

The baked potato and yorkshire pudding was the best part of my meal last night ! Asked for rare prime rib it was so well done and dry it could have been a fire hazard as to how dry it was ! It was flavorless! Not the first time they have screwed my order up . There cook needs to know the difference between well done and rare ! Not a good experience !

Absolutely love every experience at ramekins! The staff are friendly and make you feel like family! The food always comes exactly as ordered. I've been to Ramekins many times over the years and I've eaten at all times of day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, Ramekins is always a great choice.

Around holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) they offer holiday meal plates, consisting of the basics - turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables - and it is very delicious. A great option if you aren't having a big holiday dinner but don't want to miss out on the homemade comfort food

My dad and I stopped in for a very early supper as this used to be one of his favorite spots with my mom and he hasn't been able to get there in many years. The food was even better than we remembered and we were very happy with our meals and the fantastic service.

The food was tasty, generously portioned, and our server did a great job managing our large table for a birthday party. They offer a great selection, accommodating a variety of taste buds!

Today's episode of #roadfill comes from Ramekins in Kingston, Ontario For over twenty years now, I have been coming to Kingston to visit my Mother in Law. Each one of those visits has included a stop at Ramekins; her favourite restaurant. Now into her 90s, she still subtly hints at her desire to go, with those hints starting roughly within the first our of our arrival at her apartment. This visit would be no different and we made our way to the fixture on Bath Road that has been there for decades. Ramekins is the type of restaurant that little old ladies just love. It's fairly big with lots of little rooms and alcoves making for a quieter overall atmosphere. It has a fireplace (albeit a fake gas one) in the main room just off the entranceway. She often insists on a table near those flames dancing behind glass and brass. The menu at Ramekins consists of the typical finer comfort foods. Steak, Chicken, Pork and Lamb. Not too bohemian or adventurous, but usually pretty decent tasting. An addendum to the menu was a special 3 course meal consisting of your choice of a variety of starters, followed by a variety of entrees and then a choice from the dessert tray. The options sounded pretty good, so I decided I'd go that route. Two of my dining companions also elected to go that route although their appetites weren't as big mine. They offered to bequeath their appetizer to me. That being said, I opted for the French Onion soup, Caesar Salad and the Seafood Mushroom Caps for my 'starters'. My entree selection this evening would be Prime Rib; a must for more Canadian Beef. I needed to line my innards with enough glorious Angus to get me through the next few months before I get a chance to return to The Great White North. A bottle of Sleeman Dark, an Ontario based craft beer, would help me wash it all down. Our server was pleasant, however she was hard to flag down at times. Her area likely extended to a few rooms so that can easily led to the little things like empty glasses and bread baskets from being overlooked or delayed. A bread basket arrived with slices of fresh bread and butter. White and pretty regular, but fresh. All three appetizers arrived at the same time. I'm not sure what I was thinking of having three of them to myself on top of the entree, but what's done was done. Time to eat The French Onion Soup was first. I pushed the thick melted cheese off to the side and dipped in to the steamy broth. It was quite tasty. This was the type of onion soup that doesn't have bread in it. Just broth, onions and melted cheese. Whoever's idea it was to put bread in hot soup should be slapped upside the head. It's like eating a soggy rag. Fortunately the chefs at Ramekins know how to make it right Caesar Salad was next. The salad tasted decent enough although the lettuce was a bit limp and no anchovies were to be found. The Seafood Mushroom Caps came next. Wee hollows of mushrooms held smaller wee bits of crab in butter and covered in more melted cheese. These were very tasty and got Hoovered up quickly. Just as I could feel myself getting rather full, the Prime Rib arrived. This was supposedly only an 8 oz cut of prime rib, so I expected just a tiny slice. Instead, the slice was rather large in surface area on the plate. This meant that the cut was wafer thin. Fortunately it was thicker than something from a meat slicer, but only just. I suppose in all practicality, it was probably more than sufficient given that I had just finished three appetizers...and some bread. It also had a Yorkshire Pudding traditionally prepared and placed on top. I've never 'got' Yorkshire Pudding. It doesn't look or taste like pudding and really just detracts from the glory of the meat. I didn't worry about eating mine as it would be traded with one of my fellow diners whom I already acquired an appetizer from. The meat was partnered with some zucchini, carrots and a scoop of mashed potatoes. I grabbed the supplied steak knife and attempted to cut off my first slice. The knife had seen a better day and was likely circa 1968. It had a feeble blade that would be challenged slicing through warm butter let alone a thinly sliced medium rare meat. It would eventually succeed through the meat but any fat or sinu would be too fearsome a foe. Fortunately the fruitless exercise of continually slicing back and forth helped me burn off a few of the calories from the appetizers. Once finally liberated, a forkful of prime rib was twirled in some horse radish, before finding glorious purchase on my tongue. It was a delight. The horse radish immediately began work clearing my sinuses as the juices of the beef eagerly leapt down into my throat, eager to share its goodness with my stomach. The Prime Rib didn't last long. The veggies were also quite nice, and cooked to a tender crisp. The mashed potato dollop was less appealing and a bit on the dry side. Although I had already eaten 4 courses from the 3 course special, there was still dessert. When the dessert tray came around I spotted a Lemon Meringue Pie with my name on it. I don't often eat pie, but when I do, I prefer Lemon. My mom used to make lemon pie from a mix, 'Shiriff' I believe, which was always so zesty and flavourful - it was always a treat. The pie wore a tall crown of meringue which was quite light. The lemon had that same taste as my Mom's and brought me back to my childhood for a while as I dined. I was ready to change my belt position when it came time to get up from the table. I knew I had eaten too much, but it was Ramekins' fault for making so many delicious items. The 3 course dinner special, had I actually eaten 3 courses, along with a few beers and a cuppa tea ran about $40 CDN (~$30 US) inc tax and before tip. I had to boost the tip a bit to try to entice them to use the extra money to update their steak knives.

Here's a restaurant that in our last 3 visits has climbed into my top 3 best value with class restaurant's in Kingston. People know me and I like the sauces, homemade. The breakfast & dinner specials have not disappointed but have impressed me to want to come back the next time. Food is excellent, service is excellent, but the dining room is tired and needs a refresh.

We waited two hours for our meals. They seemed very short of staff: wait staff were run off their feet serving, taking orders and pouring drinks. When I checked, there was no manager on duty. The food was only mediocre. This restaurant has a good reputation so our group went their for a special night. Unfortunately it was anything but but special.

First time there today and tried their prime rib 3 course meal. Delicious. The prime rib was tender and also came with a surprise big Yorkshire pudding. My new favorite local dining place.

Always enjoy a great meal here, and always well taken care of. Last night we watched as some of your regulars came in for dinner. It was easy to see the mutual admiration between staff and customers! We saw laughs, hugs and at one point a server even took a few minutes to sit down with an older couple for a catch up. Wonderful to see.

The service was amazing as well as the food was delicious. It is definitely a fine dining casual dress restaurant that I would recommend to everyone. Also the price was amazing for the quantity and quality. I will be returning for sure. Thanks for a great night out.

The best restaurant in Ontario. Hands down. I've spent decades sampling exquisite treats at numerous restaurants across the globe. In my books....Ramekins shaves the cinnamon. Without a doubt ramekins is a cutting edge restaurant that balances cost and quality. Thanks Rupert see you Sunday!

I was quite surprised of this place! They had a 3 course meal deal where it came with an appetizer, main course, and dessert.

We got a caesar salad and french onion soup for our appetizer which were reaaaaally good!! They baked the soup with lots of cheese on top and there was quite a bit in the bowl too!

For our main course, we go the prime rib, lamb chop, and this one chicken dish that I cant remember the name of.
-the prime ribs were cooked one level more than what we asked for. So for example, I asked for a medium rare but they gave me a medium and so on.
So maybe...either the restaurant can work on that or tell them one level under.

The dessssssert!!!
There were so many choices and I just couldnt believe what good deal this dinner was!

BAD EXPERIENCE. Been here a number of times and had good food, good service and good value. Last night (April 12) was a bummer, food was below average, 1.5 hour wait and very few visits by the waitress. The room was not overly busy but all of the action was around just a few tables. People came a went but we waited, complained to the management who did not seem too concerned. May never return again and not likely to recommend to friends.

A bit noisy. Where to start. The noise for a busy restaurant was understandable, but mildly annoying, especially when dining with a senior. They should off seniors a lunch portion as a standard dinner portion can be overwhelming for them. Surprisingly, portion control between plates was not there. A senior was given enough rice to satisfy a teenager and their voracious appetites the other, a bit of a sprinkling. The lamb was over done and fatty, as the fish was over cooked. An Italian salad which is iceberg lettuce based?

To be fair, I understand that the lunch is good, and our host has been many times there for lunch, but was saddened by dinner not being to the same standard. We will try again another day as one visit does not make the place. The service was fine, they were attentive and polite and checked back often, not something that you see every day.

Ramekins has very well seasoned food. All the items I've tried, I've loved. The best French onion soup and Salmon entree. Great service

Presentation. Wonderful meal served but the presentation could have been better. I ordered Prime Rib and it was served with the rib attached, not how I expected it to be served. Servers were very nice and well trained. Would go to eat there again but maybe order something other than Prime Rib.
