Review Toast & Jam - Kingston

Rylee Fortier-Turner
this is easily my favourite place to go for breakfast in Kingston. I have been multiple times now and anytime that someone asked to go for brunch or breakfast with me whether it’s family or friends in the area I have always asked to go here. The staff are always so so so friendly and it’s local. They have a bakery right next-door that all of their pastries and baked goods are taken directly from, so if you’re craving the croissants after eating one in the café you can go buy a bunch of them next-door. Ridiculously tasty and super cute. Not too expensive which I can appreciate. Really good coffee and always nice to support local small places in Kingston. Will continue to go here over and over and over again. have officially made a tradition that every time my mom comes up to visit me in Kingston we always go here.

Great breakfast spot, love the vibe and the service is generally great. Their menu seems a lot more limited now than it used to be but that’s probably due to Covid, so understandable. Some seriously good coffee and their bacon is always cooked just so. This last visit I tried the peaches and cream French toast and sweet baby jesus, it was a good time for the mouth.

Great food, great interior, amazing baked goods, (mega croissants), steep prices for breakfast, lattes/coffee drinks are decent. Overall a great spot for breakfast in that area of Kingston. The prices are a bit shocking for breakfast but the portions are quite generous which offsets them somewhat. Homemade jams are great with their baked goods and the staff is excellent. I would come back for sure if this was the area I needed to be in and was looking to spend a bit more.

Excellent. The interior is open and super clean. The food was impeccable. The eggs were good albeit a little under cooked for me. But not a big deal. The bacon and roasted potatoes were cooked perfectly. And the sourdough bread was incredible. Huge portion for a very reasonable price. My wife had the French toast and loved it. And my very picky 3yr old at the entire pancake. I also appreciate the kid cup with a lid. No picture unfortunately it looked so good I forgot to snap a pic. Guess we'll have to come back next time we're in Kingston. 😉

The waitlist is pretty long, but it definitely worth it!! I'm very picky with food, but I've had one of the best brunches in a long time. The servie and ambience are good too.

Fantastic brunch spot - 10/10 would recommend if you are ever in Kingston! The food and drinks were fantastic and all the staff were very friendly and accommodated two additional people who were joining our table.

After hearing my family rave about this place I decided to take my kids for breakfast here. The atmosphere and decor were nice, and the taste of the food itself was great with a lot of it sourced from local suppliers. However… My entire breakfast plate was cold, the server didn’t come back once to ask how it was so ended up eating it cold. Because he didn’t ever come back, there was also no top up to the coffee or water. The $3.50 small chocolate milk on the menu turned into $4.50 small chocolate milk by the time the bill came but after waiting forever for the server to come in the first place just paid the extra to save waiting even more. Plus the $3 small coffee that I suppose you could get free refills on if your server ever came back to check. Glad I went to check it out and to support a small, local business but when spending $70 for breakfast for 3 (2 of whom were children), I expect someone to come ask if everything is okay once and to not sit through most of the meal with an empty water glass and coffee mug. Guess I should have just taken my $70 to the grocery store and made my own. Can’t say it justifies a return visit unfortunately. EDIT: Thank you Toast and Jam for replying to my review. I did follow up by email as requested 3 weeks ago but haven’t heard back from you… I get it’s a challenging time for business owners, but it’s also a challenging time for customers with the price of everything going up, and there are lots of options for places to eat on an ever decreasing budget. Still would be happy to hear back from you…

Visited for the first time recently and had a good experience. I ordered the Jordan's Breakfast and it was very good. Standouts were the biscuit and sausage. Home fries would be better than roasted potatoes I think, but they were ok. I did try the Peaches and Cream French Toast and it was very tasty and is lighter than it looks. Gave only four stars as the menu is slightly overpriced I think. But would visit again in the future for sure. 👍

Was excited to try the place out considering how much I love Bread & Butter Bakery and shop there often. It's a local small business, so I'm always about supporting those. So I took my son and girlfriend there for breakfast to try it out. It didn't live up to the hype nor the fine reputation of the Bread & Butter Bakery. The atmosphere was great. Decor looks very sleek and modern. It was clean, open and looked fantastic. But that was about the only good thing I can say about it. They were short-staffed on a Sunday morning, so service was very slow and inefficient. I can understand slower service under those circumstances, but this was just disorganized and beyond horrible. The couple who were sitting at the table beside us arrived after us. Yet they got their food, bill and were paid and gone before we even got our drinks. We were there for a total of about 90 minutes after being seated (after a 20 minute wait to be seated), and 60 minutes of that was spent waiting for our drinks, despite our orders being taken within a few minutes of being seated. That's just not right. My son's Breakfast Sammie had very little in it other than greens. It wasn't bad, tasting, but for the price, something more substantial was expected. He said he would have taken a Timmie's bagel sandwich over this one any day for both taste and quantity of food. The cost / portion size ratio on the french toast my girlfriend had was kind of laughable. It tasted good, but 2 tiny slivers of bread less than 1 cm thick, a few scattered berries and dollop of chocolate sauce hardly make for a meal of that price when you're still hungry after eating it. I had the fried something or other (3 fried eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, etc). The whole plate was swimming in a watery, horrible mess that was supposed to be fried tomatoes. The eggs were fine, potatoes were really tasty, but would have been better NOT soaked in tomato water. The bacon was tough and leathery and hurt my teeth trying to chew it. It didn't really taste very good. The breakfast sausages were the most tasteless I've ever eaten. And the coffee was this weak brownish water that barely tasted like coffee at all.. Considering the $65 bill for breakfast for 3 people, this was most definitely not worth the time or money. Even a cheap, grungy restaurant would have delivered better food and service. You'd be better off hitting Morrison's for 1/3 of that price for way more food, or even going to Eqqsquis which have huge portions, better food, better service at half the price. And either of those choices will have efficient service regardless how busy they are. I'll continue buying stuff at Bread & Butter because it's amazing, but am going to avoid Toast & Jam. I really hope you guys can get it together, because this is no way to serve customers when you charge such a premium price.

Great place and beautiful homie atmosphere and great food. Loved the older menu though ... the new Ratatouille dish was not as good or as tasty as the replaced "bake up" dish. The bake up was much well balanced flavors and gave the "just" been baked feeling. Also the new roasted potatoes are not as tasty as the older ( probably the one used before last November) they felt more dry rather than juicy. Hope you guys don't mind my picky taste only giving you feed back coz I really love this place and I don't want it to fade away with time. Best of regards.

1st visit, luv atmosphere, decor, support local business went at 1 pm wanted breakfast. Name toast & Jam, surprise we don't serve breakfast past 11. Had grilled wilton w kale ceaser. Salad had no taste & was dry, left all the dry croutons. Sandwich was so fried & hard it hurt my mouth. Pickles were great. Husbands club and potato salad, salad was nice, club was dry and hurt his mouth. Waitress was not friendly did not ask what sides we wanted, she just pointed... never asked how our meals were or anything. Service was slow and meal was expensive. I had water he had coke nothing else and bill was over 36 $. Name implies breakfast... must say was disappointed.

What an awesome find in Kingston. It is rare to find a server as passionate and educated about the food he is serving. Nice warm atmosphere, beautiful plates and great fresh food. The bakery next door is awesome, but go there after otherwise you won't be able to eat your meal. One of the nicest places I have been to in a while.

So very impressed with my first experience at Toast and Jam. It has such a unique atmosphere in comparison to other restaurants in Kingston. I ordered the eggs benedict with a side house salad and it was to die for. From the perfectly cooked eggs, to the house salad dressing, to the home made ketchup, everything was amazing. I will definitely be returning regularly!

Best eggs Benedict I've ever had. The hollandaise sauce is to die for. So rich. Will definitely be my go to place for breakfast from now on

Love love love! I have been twice so far. First was breakfast, which was delicious. The potatoes bacon and even the beans are good, the rye was great. I wasnt keen on the sausage patties but everything else was so amazing. I went for lunch this week and the wonderful waiter Brandon whipped me up a couple of fantastic lattes with designs and shared that he is trying to learn some new onea, keep it up! The wilton grilled cheese and tomato soup -omg. Get it! Cant wait to be back this Saturday for my birthday breakfast!! Just a suggestion it would be nice to get water right away when the staff come to introduce as your server rather than having to ask.

This afternoon we enjoyed a lovely late lunch at Toast & Jam. The atmosphere is just beautiful and the staff were clearly so happy to be there. Looks alone, this restaurant is warm, cozy and a great spot to unwind. Add to that the delicious food and it's sure to become one of our new favourite spots. My girls loved the pancakes and pizza, my husband loved the coffee (and his meal too!) and I could have eaten an entire cheesecake dessert if they'd have brought the entire cake to the table! Really excited to have this new spot to visit!

Went in for lunch during the week as I've been dying to get in there for brunch. The place was nice and bustling and there was a fire. Superb atmosphere. I had a hard time choosing, everything sounded delicious. Great burger and kale salad. Children's Mac-&-Cheese was also yummy. Coffee excellent. Carrot cake, not so much. Server was great!

We arrived approx. 10:40 am. It's a very nice looking place with a decent atmosphere and superior coffee BUT we stopped in for breakfast because the sign says toast and jam indicating an all day breakfast. We were seated promptly then waited for coffee then waited 15 to 20 to order then discovered breakfast had ended while we waited! So we order a bagel and a crossant and had more coffee. We waited another 15 to 20 and still no food. We decided to just pay our coffee and left after 1130am. We went on to smittys, ordered and served in less than 20 min!!! Not impressed!

I attended the evening music event! Hope this happens again. Music was great. Tacos amazing and over all pricing for the drinks and food incredibly reasonable. So nice to have something like this in the West end of the city.
