Review Salamanders - Kemptville

Beautiful patio on the water, food was quite tasty however the service was inattentive and slow. We were there mid-afternoon and it was as though we were forgotten between lunch and dinner service. We waited 10 minutes for menus, another 20-25 minutes for food and the server didn't come back until we were done. He cleared the table removing a full uneaten meal without inquiring at all as to whether there was an issue. When he brought the bill, all of a sudden he was friendly and chatting asking about our evening plans trying to redeem his tip. The food was good but the service could be better.

Nice view on the patio. Friendly server. Large portions. We enjoyed the apple and onion brie appetizer. Fresh ipa draft/ and a peach Bellini (date night without the kids). The Caesar salad was tasty. I wished the server told me how large the portion was… I ordered chicken crepes and my wife ordered chicken stir fry. Will be eating leftovers for a week! Thank you for a great night.

Great little hidden spot ! In heart of "downtown" Kemptville. We had Joel as our waiter and he was entertaining, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the nachos , steak and chèvre salad which was sooo good (I switched to a balsamic vinegrette) and the Artichoke on baguette. Everything tasted good and had a nice presentation. The priced were very reasonable and portions large ! Great place to come in the summer for their patio season with views! Would recommend

Today was our second visit to Salamanders for lunch as the first time the menu had so many dishes we wanted to try we just had to go back . Shane is an amazing server with a great sense of humour , prompt and courteous. My first time at Salamenders I had the chicken/fried avacado wrap .. delicious 😋 and today tried the chèvre & steak salad 🤤 see pic attached. Both times the portions are so large I take half my plate home for dinner. Highly recommend. I know we’ll be back again.

My sister and I had dinner at Salamanders last week. It was decent, the food was ok. Our burgers were good, but a little cold and the fries were undercooked. Our waitress was very nice, but kept forgetting about us. They were just too busy and maybe a little understaffed? We waited for about 10 minutes by the “wait to be seated” sign at the patio entrance and no one came to meet us or even acknowledged we were there. We finally just gave up and went inside the restaurant to find someone to seat us for our reserved time. We had a hard time finding someone inside the restaurant to help us as well. But sitting on the patio was nice and the restaurant was clean. Not sure if we would go back again though.

The patio will be wonderful on a sunny day. On a day with heavy rain, it is still marvelous inside. Great food and friendly service. Clean and well furnished. Will definitely return on another day. Fortunate to have found it.

Amazing experience at Salamader’s this evening. We came looking to fill our tummies since we’ve been out of power for over 24 hours. They took us in, let us power our phones and served one of the tastiest meals I’ve had in a while. The service was exceptional, I would recommend Salamander’s a million times! We will definitely be back!!!

I was really intrigued walking into this place with 4.4 stars after I was informed they are fully reserved every weekendbecause they are so popular! I thought it was my lucky day when they squeezed us in and found a table for us. The view is beautiful on the patio and it's a relaxing atmosphere . To my surprise and excitement, this was a creole restaurant, one of my favorites! I was enthusiastic about so many of thier menu items and decided on the blackened salmon, rice and beans with a side salad. My partner ordered the jambalaya. The food I received was very strange and I noticed that it looked nothing like it should . My blackened fish was rock hard , pink with no spices, salt or pepper. The "creole" sauce tasted like pan seared cream. Even worse, as I forced myself to eat the near inedible, bland fish, I discovered a white hair. To my dismay I retrieved MANY hairs in a variety of hair colours. My husband's jambalaya was a sludge of tomato paste, with overcooked chicken also having zero seasonings. I would say the ratio of sauce to rice was 2:1. A giant plate of canned tomato sauce and rice. The service was extremely slow. We got our salads and waited for easily 45 minutes for the rest and the place was empty when we arrived . If you want to sit on the patio and enjoy a drink, by all means it's a cute little place . I would not recommend this place for anything, especially since the hygiene was in question. I'm counting down the hours hoping I don't have food poisoning! This place is absolutely terrible and I'm shocked that anyone would rate this restaurant with 5 stars, they must have paid for these reviews. Beware !

I don't understand why the reviews are so low: we had catfish tacos, pull pork sandwiches, piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris - everything was terrific! Fast and friendly service - very clean and fair prices. We will go back soon!

Awesome! Nice pub with a big patio, friendly service and fresh food. Come in off the highway into old kemptville, this place is definitely worth it.

Horrible -- my server smelled like whiskey and was quite rude and abrupt I could only assume she was intoixcated since she kept making drinks in our plain sight - food was not good at all, found it to be cold not tasteful but very blah. Wouldn't not recommend this.

Lunch at Salamander's. My daughter and I discovered this lovely restaurant on a drive through 'old' Kemptville. Although there was construction on the roads around the restaurant, it was open and welcoming. Parking is a little tricky because of the construction - but not impossible. It was too hot to sit outside on the patio - but we both would have loved to sit out and enjoy the beautiful river view.

Service was quick and efficient. Our food was prompt and well prepared. We decided to order the Steak Salad with peppercorn chevre as well as the Mediterranean Antipasto platter with the plan to share. The platter was big enough for four people to enjoy as an appetizer - but we managed to make a great dent in it. The tzatziki and hummus were both home made and yummy! There was also enough meat on the platter - salami, prosciutto and even liver pate which was quite tasty.

The steak on our salad came medium rare as ordered but we both found the peppercorn chevre too 'peppery' for the plate. Of course, we should have realized from the title that it would be strong! The home made corn bread was light yet with crispy edges - yummy. We looked at the dessert menu just to see what we were missing - and if we had had room - there were several we could have chosen! Next time. The cost for two of us, including non-alcoholic drinks was $50.00 (including 20% tip)

Would have liked to have seen a luncheon menu with smaller plates and smaller prices!

Would we return: YES!

Food reminisant of restaurants like Kelsey's, Casey's... almost pub style with a touch if family restaurant but a definite step up from either of them. One thing that surprised the h*ll out of me was that they permit smoking on the patio. I know there's no bylaw against it in Kempville but considering the known hazards of second hand smoke you have to be joking that they permitted it.

Great Spot. The riverside is most apt of this wonderful bistro. They combine a relaxed welcoming environment with superb execution of some extremely scrumptious delicacies that delight the pallet. The professional and yet friendly staff are extremely smooth in meeting your expectations in a kindly yet not familiar way and the kitchen does a magnificent job in providing tasty and savory treats in a timely and efficient manner. A great spot for a special evening. Enjoy!
