Review The Orient Restaurant - Kelowna

GO HERE!! Fantastic food and service! Even what I would consider "authentic" fortune cookies, none of that brand name stuff that comes bagged retail. Love it, I will most definitely be back for more! Was sad to see the place empty inside due to a staffing shortage...I'd totally dine in!

4.8! Coming from the south, the Orient Restaurant has one of Kelowna's most 'seasoned' house special fried rice dishes we've had since moving here. Something about comfort food ๐Ÿฅฐ We ate it (inhaled while standing) straight out of the box!!! The left overs will be even better tomorrow! The prices are reasonable and the food was delightfully enjoyable!!! LOTS OF FOOD in the fried platter!!! Grab take out and eat it in the park ๐Ÿ˜Š photos are leftovers! ***sneaks away to hide left overs in hummus bowl that the rest of the house avoides!!!๐Ÿ˜œ***

Take out dinner! Why not! Good food and super fast pick service available especially just before closing. Wonton soup was good as well as the chicken Chow Mein. Crispy Shrimp was very tasty and crisp we had some sweet chilly pepper sauce at home to dip it in which was great. Good prices and quality.

Just for myself. Huge order, yet when broken down into meals the cost was less then 10 dollars each meal.

Our favourite Chinese restaurant in town. Fresh and tasty food. Consistent every time.

It was the first time we have been to The Orient since before covid. It was excellent then and did not disappoint today. There was a staff shortage but the owner did an amazing job. I highly recommend!!

The food is great and very flavorful. I would say that the lunch special is the best deal in Kelowna and they really load your plate. You can't go wrong eating here,. The food is greati, the price is reasonable considering the large portions and the service is friendly. Try it....you will like it and you will be back. Currently they are not allowing dinning in, due to staffing shortage, but the food hasn't changed.

Great food at a decent price. Had lunch special today. Lots of food. Very good.

Great take out! They have some unique and tasty variations that we really enjoy and the wait time is usually quite accurate. The staff are very friendly! This restaurant is a hidden gem!

Great cozy place. A hidden little gem. Its my go-to buffet place. Staff is always pleasant and friendly. Food is good and fresh. The steam trays on the buffet table are small so they are refilled with a fresh supply often. The pricing is good. I've been coming here for years and not once have I have a bad experience. There's a reason they've been around for almost 40 years.

My go to for rice noodle chow mein! Two choices, one with curry sauce.

Owner was completely unprofessional and ignorant. Found a super long hair wrapped around, and stuck in-between this piece of beef in our Chop suey. We JUST got our food when we noticed the long hair so we politely and quietly pulled the waitress aside so she can see it was imbedded in the beef. She took the plate back but no longer than 5 minutes the owner comes out from the back and at the top of her lungs she says the hair is not from anyone who works there cause there hair is all dark, and it must have been our hair.
No apologies whatโ€™s so ever.

I would NOT come back here ever again.
P.s the waitress was delightful.

Ordered chow mein, ginger beef, deep fried prawns and spring rolls. The ginger beef and deep fried prawns were okay and the spring rolls were mushy and slimey. The chow mein was mainly bean sprout covered in some kind of slimey coating, the slimey texture was enough to put me off that I scraped my plate into the garbage and hucked the container full of chow mein in with it. I didn't bother to ask for new food not worth the wait ... probably would not order here again.

WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN. Staff was incredibly rude after making a mistake on our to go order. And when we did eventually get the right food it was awful. The chicken and beef were slimy and impossible to chew through. The egg rolls were soggy and the prawns were cold and over cooked. Couldn't eat any of it! Don't eat here!

Horrible customer service, horrible food. We were so disappointed with The Orient. The staff was unfriendly and rude. The food was such low quality; the chicken in the chow mein was slimy and translucent. We will never eat here again. There are so many great Chinese food places in Kelowna - The Chinese Laundry, Wok Inn, Wok Out. Don't waste your money at The Orient.

Small but established. Dropped in for dinner at the tail end of the dinner rush, had the buffet. the selection of hot foods was good, definitely better than the cold/salad selection. desserts were a good bit limited selection of cakes n pastries. Good service, pleasant staff, I'd say above average for buffets in kelowna.

Poor food quality!. Unfortunately we ordered take out this evening. In the past the food has been good, but tonight it was terrible. Called restaurant to let them know and was give many excuses as to why it could have been bad but little in the way of custom service. Hard pressed to ever order again as not worth the money if that is the quality. Disappointed.

An evening to forget. Ok, so we went down to the Orient for dinner (fools that we were!). The food was cold and dismal. When my husband told the lady the food was cold, she got all mad and yelled at us, "my food not cold!!!" We'll never go back there again -- ever!

One of the worse Chinese I've ever had. Save your money and your tummy and skip this place!!!!

Had to drive my take out back. Ordered takeout from here yesterday, terrible mistake, the food was bland and tasteless my salt and pepper squid was burnt and strangly tasted like bacon. The vegitaran shanghi noodles with broccoli added we ordered came with a couple shreds of cabbage and no veggies or broccoli the noodles where also dry and tasteless. when we called to complain we where hung up on. the manager would not send the driver back to give us our money back so we where forced to drive back where we where met at the door by an angry woman where we traded their culinary abortion for our money back. Don't bother with this dump save your money.

Buffet Dinner. Had the buffet dinner here (~$13 per person). The buffet had a decent variety but the food was average at best. The ginger beef was way over cooked and the chicken balls were so tiny that they were mostly composed of batter. The chow mein was bland and flavourless. The mushroom chicken was good and the veggies were also cooked well (hard to mess that up though).

We wanted to order a soup off the menu but they said it would take 25 minutes, so we didn't even bother. Don't know if I'll go back.

Oh.. Last New Year's I craved chinese and since it's in our neighborhood I thought it would be fun to try the take out and have a mellow evening in. I will give the staff kudos for dealing with the chaos of loud grouchy people waiting, but can't be kind with the food, it was bad and we haven't been back.

Gross. Had delivery from this place while on vacay and it was disgusting. Possibly the worse westernized chinese food I have ever eaten. We had the dinner for 6 special and all the dishes were overcooked and bland. Portions were mostly fillers (too much breading, small cuts of meat). You're better off making a quick stir fry if you need an asian food fix!

Blaaah. OK I understand the menu items are supposed to be good. Maybe they are. We had the buffet tonight and it sucked. The food was dry, old and tasteless. And then they wanted to charge a dollar for a soda refill. Not a good idea when the customer is already feeling ripped off by the bad food.

Good buffet

The orient is by far the best in town.. Ok does anyone who review chinese buffet even like it? Yes it's greasy, yes it sits under lights, yes the deserts come out of packages (infrequently). Guess what - people still love it. For anyone to review The Orient poorly means they don't know chinese buffet. The orient is the least greasy, best tasting, most varied of all the chinese buffet in town. Just because you're super into anime and took a vacation to Korea doesn't mean you know everything about chinese food. Sick of people pretending to be connoisseurs when they don't even eat this type of food. Take it from a lover of Chinese food - there are no other contenders in town.

I wish people wouldn't judge this restaurant based on the buffet. The taste and quality of the buffet is COMPLETELY different to the actual quality and taste of the menu. The menu food is amazing, I often get he Cantonese style chow mein - so delicious. I agree the buffet isn't great but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed by the actual menu. The dim sum they offer at lunch isn't too bad either. The only thing they could improve on is getting the food out faster, otherwise it's great. Their house special fried rice is delicious as well, not greasy at all!

Had the Buffet - would not go back again - everything was TASTELESS - first time will be the last time and we just moved to the area

Poor quality food. Food was tasteless, and desert was old and would not bring out anything new.
