Review Hong Kong Garden Restaurant - Kelowna

Honestly, the service on the phone was quiet and average. The place on the inside looked pretty run down and my expectations were not high, but wow! This was some of the best Chinese food I've had in this town for years. It taste hot and fresh. Good flavor on the ginger beef, deep fried items were the perfect golden brown with what seemed like clean oil. In terms of food and my personal experience today it was delicious and I would highly recommend.

I'm impressed. I got the 4 item dinner combo (s&s pork, ginger beef, chicken chow mein and BBQ pork chop suey). The meat portions were very large. Everything tasted great. Other place might be a little bit cheaper but this is definitely worth it. This was my first time coming here as I've been looking for a new place to order from and I'll definitely be back. This photo was after I already had a few bites of each item. 10/10

Wonderful food, excellent service! 10/10 on portion and flavor. Wonton soup was SO good! Will be coming back very soon!

Excellent Sesame chicken. If the other dishes are as half as good as this chicken, I have a new Chinese favourite

This remains one of my favourite Chinese take-out locations. The sit-in experience isn't much, but you will get good service. The food is very consistent quality and their menu is quite expansive. Their noodles, chop suey options, and meat like dry garlic pork, ginger beef, and sesame chicken are always good and taste the way I expect. We order from this place very frequently(more than once every 2 weeks on average) and the food quality and quantity is consistently good. Many places in kelowna cheap out on your meal, giving you more noodles than anything, but meal combos here are well balanced and you get generous meat portions. It is rare I can finish everything in one sitting. The good news is it usually reheats well as left-overs. Lots of bold and distinct flavours to look forward too if you are willing to explore. Some might not be to your taste, as with anything, but it's worth trying.

Decent food, however, I do find the chow mein soggy and same with some of their meats like sesame chicken. But the flavors are okay, except the chow mein. I usually get the combo for one and they have lots of choices and a decent price. Overall they are just okay. If you want much better, I recommend YumYum Tree in Capri mall. Hidden gem that is fast food, combos for one like Manchu Wok. You will most likely have to wait in line but their flavours are amazing. (Except the chow mein as well, go figure.)

Great food! We ordered for a change and we were very happily surprised! Definitely recommend. Also they have great options for the individual meals. Glad I found it!

Absolute BEST spring rolls ever. I normally hate the filling inside spring rolls the flavor just doesnt do it for me, but these ones were amazing, I could taste the sesame oil which I LOVE, and the filling wasn't too mushy it was perfect.

Have only ever purchased the custom meal for one (repeatedly). It's an excellent value, with generous portions and good flavour. Staff are efficient, food is always hot & fresh.

Delicious food, generous portions, good price. Been here a few times, will keep coming back.

Just have to say that 4 out of the 7 negative reviews have only posted 1 review ever. Which means that they're probably restaurant competitors and illegitimate reviews. If you were really there, post some photos to prove it. I usually disregard all reviews done by people who have only ever posted 1 review.

Anyways, my review:
Came here tonight for the first time wanting to try somewhere new.
We ordered the mushroom fried rice, veggie chop suey and Singapore fried noodles. Portions were pretty good, the Singapore noodles was a big portion.
I think the mushroom fried rice could have really benefitted from some more veggies, salt, pepper and oyster sauce. Or some soy sauce instead of salt.
Our favourites were the Singapore fried noodles and the veggie chop suey. The Singapore noodles were flavourful and yummy. The chop suey sauce was good too. We had Chinese jasmine tea and it was good too, not many asian restaurants in Kelowna serve this kind of tea and it's a flavour I miss from the Asian restaurants in Vancouver.
Overall, it was good! Place was clean and service - they were nice.

Tasteless and boring. My family and I had take out from here. It was tasteless, boring and drab. It's really hard to find a good Chinese restaurant out here! We've lived here a couple of years and so far the best is at Yum Yum Tree in the Capri Mall. Don't waste your money on the Hong Kong Garden Restaurant!

Love it. Best Chinese in Kelowna by far. Also the only restaurant that you can create your own combos. All of the others charge 1.00-2.00 to sub something out. Makes no sense. Great portions, great taste.

Used to rock....not worth it anymore. This used to be our "go to" restaurant for chinese food. In the past two months the quality is non-existent. Portions are half the size. The ginger beef was similar to the boxes of the freezer isle at Wal-Mart. The almond chicken.....inedible. You might wanna just grab a hot dog next door at Mac's.

Our usual place. Love thIs place. Very consistent, fair price. Wish they delivered every day of the week, then i wouldn't be forced to go elsewhere in kelowna, the rest of the places suck.

Not Impressed. Ordered a 4 item combination for take out at lunch. They got 2 items wrong, and when I brought it back argued that the chicken with mixed veg they gave me was actually chicken chop suey (I had ordered food from them before) and that I ordered almond chicken when I actually ordered lemon chicken. Never again!

Ordered here because Imperial Garden was closed. Polite, smiling service, and a nice phone call back when our food was ready. The food was good, but not great. Its positives were a lack in grease, well presented, decent portions. Negatives were a big lack of flavour. Everything was very underseasoned. There were no real classic flavours at all. Noodles seemed overdone. Good but won't return, not our type of taste.

Kelowna average.. Like another reviewer has stated, it's average fare for what's offered around town. Not the best I've had, but certainly not the worse. The food is certainly good enough and portion sizes in their combo meals are generous, but so far there's nothing outstanding that would put them over and above other places. Their location - in the heart of a residential area and away from the Rutland core - is going to work well for them and the food is good enough that I can see repeat customers going to them. However, with Imperial Banquet not more than a 5 minute drive down the road from them, they do have some stiff competition close by.

Again, not the best, but far from the worse I've had, and decent portion sizes and flavour. I'd consider going back. That gives it a like for me.

Standard fare. Stopped in for a late lunch and ate-in though the restaurant clearly is designed mostly for take-out. The ownership seemed a little surprised to find us staying in but they rose to the occasion. For the most part this menu is like every other Chinese menu in town and the combination plates we sampled also tasted pretty much like every other Chinese place in town. At best, what I can say is that ever item was properly fried and deep-fried and had a typical amount of batter and/or sugary-sweet and/or spicy sauce on it. The portion size was extremely generous and for that I'll give it a like.

Really Good Takeout. I was surprised that there hasn't been any reviews yet of this restaurant! My family enjoys Chinese food at least twice a month and have been tired of the same usual Rutland places we get take-out from so after finding no reviews on Urbanspoon decided to take a chance on them. Glad we did, food was hot, fresh and very tasty, not at all salty like some seem to be. We had House Special Chow Mien, Sweet and Sour Pork, Beef and Broccoli and Chicken Egg foo yung. Fantastic and based on what we had that night we will be going back in the future.
