Review Lake Tai Restaurant - Kelowna

Awesome vegan food! So many options. The meal for two is a good deal. The sweet and sour veggie meat kind of tastes like strawberry rhubarb pie! The veggie steak is awesome too, crispy and the sauce is great. They don’t have a sign up right now but they are open.

Really nice atmosphere and was welcomed right away. There was a great mix of food options so make sure to try different dishes. My wife and I had completely difference preferences. The pricing is pretty good fit what you get especially if you choose the dinner for 2.

Coming from Vancouver we were craving some tasty Chinese food. This is a mom and pop shop restaurant owned by a Taiwanese couple. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Dishes were delicious and completely vegetarian. I actually prefer the veggie meat over real meat! Totally hit the spot for Chinese food without being too heavy.

It’s good to have a Taiwanese vegetarian restaurant in Kelowna here! Nice tasted for rice, veggie BBQ (豆包) and fragrant eggplant (spicy)! And very easily to scheduled a takeout over phone. Highly recommended!

Ordered from this restaurant yesterday! Had the Honey Crispy Bean (top of dish) it was really good enjoyed the texture very sweet definitely needs rice or something bland/salty to balance it. Also ordered the sweet & sour veggie meat (bottom of plate) it was so good sweet and a pretty good texture as well lastly we ordered the fried oriental vermicelli gluten free (you can see part of it in the middle left corner of the plate) It was really good on the salty side but it was a nice contrast to all the sweet. Overall really enjoyed everything It was a little on the heavy side definitely a treat or indulgence not something I would have every day.

Great food and small family atmosphere. Amazing pineapple doughnuts for dessert. Extremely fast service too.

Amazing food, all vegetarian. The sweet and sour sauce is delicious: not too sweet with complex other flavours. And the takeout boxes are adorable.

Rose makes awesome food - love the curry and veggies and lemon steak. She is really reassuring about her sanitary practise during COVID so we feel great ordering from Lake Tai.

I seriously cant believe the good reviews at this restaurant. The food is sick in a really bad way. DO not order the 2 can dine meal its gross. Also nobody seems to have mentioned how small the portion sizes are for take out.. You get TINY little portions. The lady was nice but the taste of the food was gross. I literally took a few spoonfuls of each and through the rest in the garbage. Will never eat here again, worst place i have ever eaten in kelowna ever. Wasted 26 bucks.BARF.

Yum.... Lake Tai is one of Kelowna's best hidden gems. While they may be out of the way, the restaurant is spotless, their menu has a amazing variety, the food is fresh and delicious, and the service is always great. Even if your party has a mix of vegans, vegetarians and carnivores, there is something to satisfy everyone.

I will admit that some of the imitation meat items are a little bit unusual (like the veggie balls in the veggie ball soup), most of the imitation meat items are hard to discern from the real thing. The dumplings and dipping sauce (either steamed or deep fried) is A+, the black pepper veggie beef is to die for, the sweet and sour veggie meat is delicious, while the hot plate with curry and coconut is A+++. Each entree comes with a unique pastry at the end of the meal is the perfect end to the meal.

Very satisfied. We came to this restaurant because of the vegan food and good reviews. We had people with severe allergies in our party and everything we ordered was a huge success and everyone was kept safe and happy. Delicious food and lovely service. I recommend this restaurant to everyone and will definitely come back.

Will be coming back!. I came here for the first time tonight and it definitely won't be my last! As a vegan from out of town, I was very excited to find out about the restaurant, and the food met my expectations. I will be visiting this restaurant every time I come to Kelowna.

Best Chinese/Taiwanese fare in Kelowna!. This place is my saving grace anytime I want a nice meal out or when I am feeling too tired to cook and need some fresh & healthy takeout. I almost always get the stewed soup, which is a spicy Chinese 5 spice broth with broccoli, bok choy, carrot, tomato, tofu, mushroom and veggie meat (made of mushrooms!). It's very filling! A couple of my other faves include sweet & sour veggie meat, which comes with delicious chunks of zucchini and pineapple, and the stir fried rice noodles! My fave starter is the veggie cone - nori seaweed stuffed with shredded veggies and a tangy sauce, and the pineapple donuts at the end of the meal and the perfect indulgence to top off the meal. The place is always kept immaculately clean and tidy, and the service is absolutely second to none, the very best in Kelowna. Rose and her family take every measure to ensure a nice dining experience for their guests, and they always remember names & ask how things are since you've last seen them. The one and only thing I'm not a big fan of is the sauciness of some dishes. If you're a sauce person, you'll love it, but I'm generally not a fan of saucy dishes anyway. Best part - it's all 100% vegan.

Tasty at first, then not so much.. We had high hopes after seeing the rave reviews online. Neither of us are vegetarian, but we figured "why not?". Spring rolls were tasty. Fried dumplings were great. Both main dishes, not so much. The sauces were almost like a strange fluffy jello because of what appeared to be an overabundance of corn starch. The dishes were also lacking the aromatic and flavourful Thai quality. Both were quite bland. We were disappointed with how much we spent, and how sick we felt after leaving.

Yummy!. My husband and I stopped here driving through Kelowna. Service was awesome, food was delicious, and prices were so low!! Realllly yummy pineapple donuts were a perfect way to end the meal. I'm sad that I don't live in kelowna to make this a regular place to eat.

Just finishing dinner at the Lake Tai in Kelowna. Triumph. Food was very tasty - even for the non veggies in the crowd. Great food. Great service. Great prices.

Amazing every time!. Lake Tai has been delicious every time I've gone. They are SO accommodating to my gluten free diet. The service is always extremely friendly and they remember me every time I go in! The food is always amazing quality and very fresh. Very unique cuisine...there is nothing else like it in Kelowna. Perfect for vegetarians and vegans.

Excellent service, friendly staff, and by far the best food I have had in a long long long time. Being a vegan it is very tough to find restaurants but this place was absolutely amazing. Will be going there very very often! Wow!

Tasty. Everything tasted great. The steak didn't taste like steak or have a similar texture, but that was good for me since I don't really like steak's flavor. The spring rolls were a bit empty too. Probably about 95% of them was just wrapper.

I think the biggest thing that I liked about the place was being able to order everything off the menu and not worry about it having eggs, milk, or some sort of animal broth. I'd go there again just for that.

All I have to say is .. Won ton soup!!!!! Yum :)

Just Perfect!. We arrived for lunch- and had a great experience! The service was just lovely and the food was incredible (order the second coconut curry on the back page of the menu! yum!!) The restaurant is clean, well priced- and although it's absolutely vegan heaven- even those who aren't vegans will enjoy the food! We were even offered a delicious pineapple donut after our meal, which was truly the icing on the cake- making for a truly perfect lunch! Next time we're in Kelowna- we'll be back! Thank you!!

July 6 2017: I first came here in 2013 and enjoyed it. We moved shortly after and didn't come back until today. So glad we did, we had such a great meal.

We ordered: A4 Dumplings(boiled), D16 Ma Po tofu, H4 Hot plate stem, F4 Fried oriental vermicelli.

The dumplings(A4) are handmade and were delicious. They were filled with veggies like minced cabbage, carrots, onions.

The Ma po tofu(D16) was yummy and had lots of big chunks of soft tofu with corn and peas.

The Hot plate stem(H4) was brought out in a bowl and then poured onto the hot plate at our table. I liked the presentation and it added a bit of wow factor to see and hear it sizzling, bubbling and steaming in front of us. This dish had broccoli, carrots, snap peas, mushrooms and faux beef which is made from soy protein. I don't eat fake meats but I made an exception today and it was surprisingly delicious and had the texture of stewed beef.

The fried oriental vermicelli(F4) was my fiancés favourite dish. We both really love Singapore fried noodles and always get it at Chinese restaurants but he said he liked this dish even better. I enjoyed it as well. There was some chopped greens, carrots, cabbage and faux ground meat and faux sliced ham.

The restaurant was clean and the service was great. The lady that served us today was the same lady that served us in 2013. One thing that stood out in my mind from our first visit in 2013 was how friendly she was. Once again today she was nice and served us with a genuine smile.

Lake Tai restaurant has been in business for 13 years. One of the owners, a very sweet and cheerful lady has been vegetarian for 25 years.

As the years go by, more and more chain restaurants are opening up and are usually very busy. But I personally like to support the smaller mom and pop restaurants that work hard and sacrifice to make a living. Plus being a vegetarian for 25 years and keeping a vegetarian/vegan restaurant open in Kelowna for 13 years is dedication, passion and says a lot about their character because they never strayed from what they believe in or gave in to the majority. And that is something I want to support.

I will be back again and again.

I really don't understand how this place has such a high rating. The food is probably the worst I've ever had in my life. I have not heard any good things from people I know who have been there either.
The vegetarian market is under served, but Lake Tai does not help. Avoid at all costs.

Food First.. The food at Lake Tai is great. My sister and nephew are vegetarians strict doesn't even begin to cover it.... So I have learned to cook with out animal products all my life and quite enjoy vegetarian fare but often feel starved after i have had only veggies...not so at this place ....awesome food, great tastes, great price, very very clean, great hospitality. very peaceful.
a very nice place to eat knowing that no violence was required for your supper....
namaste

Salt!. I liked it but I felt that the veggie meat was too sweet. Is it so hard to add some salt!? Theyre being healthy I know, but c'mon, I need salt.

Super Delicious. I am a veggie and often I have the choice between a veggie burger or a salad. It is nice to walk into a place where I can order anything and it is all different and wonderful. I took some non veggies there and they all loved it. Get the honey crispy bean for sure.

Also a nice sweet lady works there.

Worth checking out. Only my second visit to Lake Tai...as a confirmed meat eater I'm not terribly likely to opt for a purely vegetarian restaurant but I'm going to reconsider that after my visit earlier this week. The new location is bright and shiny and its white linens and tablecloths glow. As always, the owner is cheerful, humble and very welcoming. That, combined with her excellent service skills means you'll be well cared for. This visit we tried 3 appetizers, and a rice noodle and Ma Po Tofu mains all of which arrived perfectly prepared and well-seasoned. The pickled cabbage was an excellent partner to the bean curd and as with many of these dishes the flavour profiles and textures are unique and unlike other cuisines. Our meal was topped off with kept-hot-at-the-table jasmine tea and little complimentary pineapple doughnuts. Deelish! A lovely, unique meal means I'll be back.

Tai stands for Taiwan where the owner cooked for the rich and famous before moving to BC. Great prices and interesting all vegi Asian food. A bit sweet for my taste but not to be missed.

Customer. This is the best little classy restaurant we have ever found. The food is beyond exceptional, the service is superior and, while it is a small restaurant, the sparkling white linen table clothes and fancy folded napkins makes one believc he is eating in a palace. Our only objection is the distance from home but we gladly cross the border and drive two hours for this good food and wonderful atmosphere.
