Review Sandrine French Pastry & Chocolate - Kelowna

Eric de Roulet
Proper, authentic French baking by French owners. Their macarons and the mille feuille stand out the most for both texture and flavor, but I've never really been disappointed here. They also make nice coffee and have enough seating, not to mention they sell puff pastry dough and gifts you can take home.

Been a big fan of Sadrine since they opened. Their croissants and other light pastry is amazing. Today we tasted their birthday cake they made for us and everybody loved it - not overly sweet like some other stores cakes but very tasteful. Great place to grab a croissant and coffee in the morning.

Beautiful shop in town for macaroons, pastries, cakes, chocolates and everything along that! They have a cute little patio as well. Check them out!

Taste of Paris in Kelowna. Absolutely adore this gem of a place. Photos don't even give justice to the selection of goodies, atmosphere and staff friendliness. Thank you Sandrine for the warm welcome <3

Tried their pastry and it was really good, but chocolates were terrible. Not sure if someone could sell chocolates that bad, they tasted waxy, you could taste the oil. Fine chocolates should melt in the mouth not force you to spit it out.

Simply the BEST a croissants in North America! Worth the price, no question! Plus, they have duck in a can!!!

The moment you walk into Sandrine’s the aroma of buttered pastry is incredible. It entices you to want everything in the case. A beautiful bright space, quaint and a cozy. If you need a treat and a taste of European pastry mastery, this is the place. Prices are moderate to high, but for the quality of desserts offered I have no objection. Vraiment excellent.

The technical aspects of the macarons were pretty perfect. The flavours were fine - most were a bit too subtle for my preference, with the exception of the Lemon, Strawberry and Caramel. I wish they offered some more unique macarons other than the standard flavours. We will be going back for more and to try the chocolates, so I would still highly recommend :).

A small cute pastry shop located on Dilworth Dr. The staff was really nice and the food was delicious! The prices were not too high either. I highly recommend!

Top notch pastries and chocolates that, despite the price tag, are so worth treating yourself with! I always enjoy the macarons and croque monsieur croissants. 💖 They have pâté, pies, and and other savoury foods as well. The staff are friendly and very knowledgable about each item, with some able to speak fluently in French. I'm happy they opened up a patio for the warmer seasons so you can sit and enjoy your goodies in a relaxed setting. Last, I would like to say how much my husband and I enjoyed the one-on-one class offered here! We did the 'Chocolate' course, taught by Sandrine herself. Tempering chocolate properly is not as easy as it looks! Sandrine was very patient in answering questions and making sure each group (3 groups of 2) received attention. We walked away with chocolate dipped strawberries and orange peels, ganache/truffles, almond clusters, and a massive fruit and nut bar! 😊✨🍫 Eat, sip, learn, and enjoy. I highly recommend visiting!

The pastries are sooo delicious!! Croissants are buttery and flaky. The prices are high but for special occasion ok.

Such a cool little place - feels like I'm back in France. So far I've only tried the Macarons but I will be back for some of their other creations!

Kinda the best pastry shop I have been to in kelowna, although the prices are a bit higher than expectations.

No amount of great food will ever overcome really BAD SERVICE.

I run a company in Toronto and have an office in Vancouver. While in Kelowna visiting friends I stopped in at Sandrine's as I'd heard many great things about it. I was having a stressful day with customers, so I thought what better way to de-stress than with a lovely couple of pastries.

I went into the bakery and a young lady came out to serve me. No smile, no how are you? How can i help you? which i thought was odd, but didn't think overly on it. I asked and i quote 'I'd like to have a box of 6 or so pastries please' - my intention in asking this was to denote that i wished to purchase several pastries - i thought i was being polite and providing some guidance .

Well you would think i had asked for a keg of dynamite, because the response I received went BOOM.

With a hostile and dismissive tone she proceeded to tell me that she would denote what box to place the pastries in and the number of boxes needed, and that i shouldn't ask for one box. Then she proceeded to tell me how many boxes it would take. I didn't actually care about the box or boxes. I wanted to simply get a few pastries. I stood there like a silly child admonished by a surly person. I couldn't actually believe it.

I then asked what types of cakes were in the fridge and she didn't come over and see if she could assist or entice me into purchasing one, she said and i quote " from here i can see a strawberry, chocolate and cassis", however there were several and i wasnt sure which one was which (except the strawberry), so didn't buy any of them.

Now i run a pretty high profile company in another city and i know that when a customer comes in they want a pleasant experience. As a business owner your OBLIGATION to your customer is precisely that... to ensure their experience is excellent so the customer returns. Simple concept really.

i must say this business failed miserably in this regard. While i understand that perhaps some persons have bad days, i would never want a person like this young lady to work at my company. Take note Kelownites. Not all tourists and visitors to your lovely city will tolerate surly customer service.

I truly hope that Sandrine takes action on this matter. While i did purchase 4 pastries and received 2 boxes, i will not return to this bakery, nor will i recommend it and in fact will now ensure they employ customer service training at their place of business.

As stated in the title of this review - no amount of great food will overcome really bad service.

amazing macarons and cakes but gotta get there early or else all the good stuff will be sold out. the chocolates were also good, and so were the cakes.

My croissant sandwich was way too greasy, the pastry wasn't flaky at all because too much butter. The $30.00 tourtière pie we bought was so small and again, the pastry was nothing to write home about. We won't go back, way overpriced for basic, poorly cooked food.

Cosmic experience!. All of the pastries at Sandrine's are absolutely exquisite to look at. Flavours in every pastry are well balanced, intense when they should be, fruit flavours are outstanding. Not to sweet. Croissants are tops, light and flaky, with lovely buttery taste. We are very lucky to have such a fabulous French pastry shop.

You're a fool to not like this place.

Best almond croissant I've had anywhere! If you appreciate a dedication to quality, you must try this place.

Best Croissant in town!. I accidentally found this place... and i couldnt resist going in there since they sell pastries!!! I was glad that i went in. Their croissant is the best in town; not dry, not super crunchy, and you can taste the butter. i also bought macaron, and i loved it! (i think it was raspberry) I can't wait to go back there and buy sorbet cake!

Outstanding. Sandrine is a master of her craft and it shows in her work. Every product in her store is handmade and represents what french pastry and desserts can truly be. If you dont recognize a something. ASK HER, she and the staff are friendly and happy to help you out. I bought for a wine and cheese/dessert party and was truly impressed. Well done Sandrine

Best chocolate & service in town!. This is always one of my favourite places to go after I hit the Farmers Market. I usually get the croissants but everything is good, fresh and authentic. Their chocolate and macarons are amazing and great for any special occasion, gift or just for the hell of it. I like the pair the macarons with sparkling wines during summer and give them as gifts during the holiday season. They used to be part of La Boulangerie that was located on Lakeshore but they scaled down and moved. They used to make the best french breads and lunches but now you can only get the tarts and quiches frozen.
The service is also impecable - especially Sandrine herself. Usually, in Kelowna, the people who own specialty stores tend to be slightly stuck up but she and her staff are so accommodating and friendly.

Service was friendly, the shop felt pleasant, and the displays were attractive. I don’t know of any other such bakeries in the Okanagan, so this one may be the best in its class. But unfortunately, I was disappointed with the execution of the baked goods.

One popular local spot is Sandrine French Pastry and Chocolate known for their high quality Parisian-style croissants and the only location in Kelowna where you can purchase macarons. Sandrine also provides decadent gourmet chocolates, colourful French pastries, gelato and ice cream cakes. Sandrine’s is an authentic French pâtisserie that is a place for you to quell your jet setting desires and sweet tooth. It’s also a place where you can bring a bit of France home for dinner with homemade tourtières, duck confit, paté and even duck fat. Both she and her husband were trained at the French Lenotre and Bellouet. I frequent S

Baking makes me nervous. There, I said it. Cooking is easier (in my mind anyway) – as I feel that you can kind of make up things as you go along – add more spice, cater to your own taste. However, I always feel that baking is strict and definitely it’s own science. You have to have everything perfect in order for some treats to come out perfectly. And unfortunately, I am clumsy, messy and a big oaf when it comes to making things look pretty. Seriously. I can’t even draw straight lines with a ruler. But for a brief moment in time, I walked into a magical cafe that made me forget that I am a clumsy, messy big oaf that can’t make things look pretty. It’s more than just a magical cafe- it’s Sandrine. Located within downtown Kelowna, this shop speaks to my soul with multicoloured macarons and rows and rows of delicious French pastries. My biggest regret was not picking up macarons for my journey home – we got to taste a couple (well, to be honest, I got to taste a lot…sorry everyone else!)

While everyone else is in a breakfast meeting this A.M., I sneak over to Sandrine French Pastry and Chocolate for a quick coffee and some morning snacks. Shhh, I’ll be back before anyone notices. La Boulangerie Sandrine is located in a strip mall on the corner of Harvey Avenue and Dilworth Drive. Chocolatine ($2.75) Flakey and buttery, with some chunks of dark chocolate hiding inside. I really like pain au chocolat in the morning because it’s mostly pastry with just a hint of semi sweet chocolate. Lemon Croissant ($2.85) The bottom part of this pastry is a little on the bread-y side but the top is flakey and light. Most importantly for me is that the curd is satisfyingly tart! Apricot Croissant ($2.85) Looks like sunny side up egg yolks, no? This is the sweetest selection of the morning with the apricot halves on a thin bed of custardy goodness. My neighbour has an apri

Sandrine arrived in Kelowna in 2004 and opened La Boulangerie Gourmet Café in the Mission where she was located for 6 years. In 2010, she moved her operation to its current location in Orchard Place where her tiny, but gorgeous store offers a selection of exquisite cakes, pastries, macarons, artisan chocolates, jams and spreads (made with wonderful organic fruit from the Okanagan) as well as savoury items – all handmade in Kelowna from scratch using high quality ingredients.
