Review 88 Grand Buffet - Kelowna

Alexander Ryan
The restaurant had a relaxed vibe with calming music in background. It was not too crowded at the time of the visit during the lunch. The buffet has an extensive spread to choose from asian cuisine. The food was tasty. They have a good selection of desserts as well. The place is clean & well maintained. And the staff was courteous. A good buffet place in Kelowna. If you want to relax and enjoy the meal time, it is a nice place right near to the main road.

Great Chinese buffet in the Kelowna area. Great selection of dishes, they always refill the serving plates with fresh ones and food is soooo yummy and good. Really love their Chinese pork BBQ, honey ribs, sweet and sour pork and garlic shrimps. Service was very good as well. All in all one of the best buffets in the Kelowna area especially if you're craving for good Asian food.

Lovely environment great food. Squid rings in tempura style really crunchy. Hot and sour soup opens the taste. Whole family enjoyed it.

There were was a variety of meats and lots of seafood. My favourite was the fried garlic ribs, not too salty. The sushi is what you would expect in your average buffet. There was sour spicy soup and wonton, which tasted refreshing to go with the food. Fruits and salad were fresh with many kinds. Anyone, adult or kid, will enjoy this place very much.

It's been a few years since I've been to a buffet. I'm so glad we decided to stop on for lunch today. Full plates. Hot food with tons of selections. Tried almost everything except seafood things. Everything is delicious. I definitely wanna come back someday soon :)

The service is so excellent. We really like how Chilly takes good care of us. He had shown an initiated cleaning up our table and refilling some water. Appreciate his service. The food is also great. Our family loved the crab, and roast beef. And the mango ice cream is so awesome. Our Kelowna trip is more exciting and fun because of the services and the foods that they have provided. Kudos!

I give this place four stars because it's has a nice decor and it's clean. The wait staff are very tentative. They are quick to bring the drinks and clear the plates. Other than that the food is mediocre. I wouldn't say this is one of my favorite places to go and eat only because I keep wishing that the food was more fresh. Also watch what's on your plate because they seem to miss label the food a lot.

After a long boat riding morning, a buffet is alway a best choice for filled up energy for the afternoon. Food is till delicious as two years ago and food variety is way better than the others. Enjoy the full AC under the hot summer and fresh sushi and seafood. Mussel is big and yummy. Best of all is no one can beat the price!

Great place to go for a fast meal. There is always staff available to meet your needs. Like every buffet some days seem better than others. A large selection of hot food and salad bar is offered. Sushi is always a big hit with us and rarely seen on a buffet. They offer takeout too with large portions. Took away 1 star because of the washrooms. They look clean enough but always a moldy smell. Even with the bathrooms remodeled it did not get rid of the smell. We use the one at Staples.

Terrible at any price. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad early in the day...but I doubt it. Never again. The food was dry and old! The floors were dirty, the restroom was disgusting.
I been going to this restaurant from the day it opened every time I come to Kelwona, however this year it was absolutely horrid, the food was old and dry, the sushi was old, and the dessert was pretty much non existent, I was was recommending this restaurant to everyone but now I take everything back. One of the worst buffets I have ever had I did ask the manager about the food

The buffet is a steal! It offers so many things for the hungry soul. The sushis bar however was a bit of a dissapointment. The rest was terrific. Would love to come here again.

One of the worst dining experiences I've had in Kelowna.

There was a lot of variety, though vegetables were lacking. The meat-based dishes that were hot were decent.

However, everything else was either cold, undercooked, over saturated in oil, or some combination of all three. Dumplings were flavorless mush. Lo mein noodles were still crunchy. Broccoli in the beef broccoli was woody. You could squeeze the cold onion rings and fries and oil would just drip from them. Even the cantaloupe was underripe and flavorless.

The interior is nice, but wait staff walked and talked with their heads down. There's no smiles, no "how's your meal?", nothing. It was borderline depressing.

Now, a bad meal I can deal with. I've had bad food in Kelowna, I've had bad buffets, I've had bad buffets in Kelowna... it's part of life when you enjoy dining out often.

This is the kicker though. We (politely!) expressed our disappointment in the food with the woman working at the front counter. It was bad enough, in our opinions, that it warranted some kind of discount. The woman at the counter was NOT apologetic, and fought us over this - told us she had looked and everything was hot and looked great, and that there's no way the food could have been that bad. I have never, EVER been treated this poorly by restaurant staff, to the point of having to BARTER for a discount over a meal we could barely even stomach eating.

If that's how the food was when it's "hot and fresh", I'd hate to see it any other time of day!

Insanity!

My favorite chinese buffet in Kelowna. Reasonably priced, VERY large selection that includes some none asian items. Sushi bar is the best, there's a sushi maker always make the fresh sushi. Staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. This is a BIG restaurant, so it can accommodate big tour groups or school groups. Shopping close by is convenient.

Been here several times now... The food is typically fresh, and always a good selection. The salad bar could use a few more items, like tomatoes or cottage cheese. Hot food is very diverse, both western style and Chinese, although the vegetables seem to be coated with a clear glaze of some sort. Service seems to fluctuate, very good some days and not so good others. All in all a good place to eat, especially for those who like a wide selection.

Good selection, ate there three times.
Huge buffet, but still (as of July ) no liquor license so, no Beer with my food, not cool I will return... when they have one!
Good food, not fine dining, but likely among the best Chinese food I can find in Kelowna(so far). Very clean, good food, a lot of choice. I'll be back.

Clean and Good. You know what, most of my family liked it. Its an interestingly good take on a buffet. Chinese, Thai, Japanese. The only Thai thing I really saw was the curry, which I really liked! There's lots and lots of vegetables in all of their dishes. Their little steamed buns were good, and their fish was good, the food tasted fresh. I also liked the idea of smaller plates and portions underneath the heating lamps, because it kept it fresh. When it was almost out, then they would refresh and fill it. Why not? Fried rice was good, the sushi was good. I'll pass on the dimsum though, weak dim sum. The only dimsum dish I saw was Sui Mai, and gyozas, and steamed buns I believed. Sui Mai wrap was dry and chewy, I think it's because its been sitting there and not too many people were trying it. I enjoyed their wonton soup, simple, light, passable for a buffet(better wonton than Asian Pear). The best part about this buffet was that there are a ton of vegetables, so you really make your money's worth on all the veggies. They could have better dessert, although they do have lots of ice cream to choose from. The salad bar is per usual. Clean and friendly these people were. I really like what they have done to the place. Very bright, open and clean. Love the lights. I like the concept of this place.
I will say though, if they had more options for Thai and Dim Sum, it would be so wonderfully different.
Like some pad thai, or curry soup or Tom Yum soup, and different rice noodle dishes would be so amazing! And for Dim sum maybe some Hargow, and some bbq buns, and sticky rice, and tripe and tendon, and eggplant filled with minced prawns purree. You know!! I understand it would be a ton of work but how fantastic does that soundddddd.

One complaint.... I only have only one complaint about this place, and that is that I run out of plate before I run out of food! Massive selection available of all types of varieties; Chinese (predominantly), Dim Sum, Japanese, and some Thai. Smaller portions in serving plates that's continually being refreshed. Fresh sushi bar with a selection of rolls being made right there and new types being put out once one roll is done. I've eaten here for lunch and dinner and didn't find the selection lacking at either time, with a new selection of dishes available too. I've heard complaints about not enough vegetables in their dishes, but I'm not sure where those people were eating at? We sure didn't find that. It's a little more on the pricey side compared to other places, but for the quality and freshness, it's worth it! Also very reasonable price for kids. I expected growing pains when they first opened (we first tried it after they were only open for four days), but in my opinion, they're already doing everything right! I'd peg this place as easily one of the best buffets available between Vernon and Kelowna. Heck, this has been the only one my wife keeps asking when were going back! Finally! A dcent buffet in this city! Best of luck to them, and keep up the good work!

About time. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount and selection of food...always fresh...most trays when we went were steaming hot...best mussels in town...and another good point was charged my 9 year old daughter half price...The Asian Pear charged her $20 as an adult!

The newest kelowna buffet. Clean ,comfortable seating, with a nice atmosphere, large selection of food , and most of it tasty,
on the down side, some food is cold, and very little veggies in any of the dishes, although there is a salad bar,,
again don't expect much of a variety in the fresh department, mostly pasta salads etc,
over all enjoyed it, food was better then the other options around
