Review Cecil's Perogies - Kelowna

Ebony Hernandez Taylor
Don’t know what any of the bad reviews are talking about because Cecil’s is simply THE BEST perogies and Ukrainian food in Kelowna. PERIOD. Everything is so authentic and mind bendingly delicious - and not to mention super generous portions. I have loved coming here since I was a little girl and I will never stop recommending it to people!!!! Run don’t walk to Cecil’s Perogies!!!!

The perogies are absolutely delicious here. The staff are super friendly too. Definitely worth checking out!

Love this place been getting their rogies since I was 16! Jonathan is the man. Always remembers you and goes the extra mile to put a smile on your face. 10/10 would recommend!

The service was super fast and friendly. I love supporting a local family business! Oh, and they've got the greatest little mascot you can get on shirts and other merch. We bought a tank top and dubbed him Edgar Allen Perogi!

Omggg, I have never ever had such amazing perogies in my life, I totally recommend this place. Service was fantastic, the man who works there is so nice. I can't explain how amazing the food was. I wish I can give a 10 star. Keep up the great work

So delicious and such a wholesome family environment, the young man that runs it with his grandma are so incredibly kind! They are always more than happy to assist my husband and I with such a kindness.

We purposefully aimed for Cecil's Perogy House as the first destination after disembarking from our flight, and conversed with Jonathan who prepared our order (perogies, borscht, sausage). A tasty mushroom sauce accompanied the boiled perogies. Tender strands of Savoy or Napa cabbage predominated the borscht, for which the accompanying sour cream and garlic bread were added delights. Jonathan served generous portions and made this, our first visit to the popular eatery, memorable.

Delicious! I was originally thinking this place was pretty expensive for pierogies, but after ordering I understand why - they are huge!! I got the order of 6 and was stuffed. Came with delicious buttery garlic sauce, a bun, and bacon bits. I added in sour cream. Tastes really good and I will be back!

Accidentally stumbled on this restaurant while biking on the rails to trail shared path (to airport). The perogies are grandpa Cecil’s recipe. Never had them before with “sauce”. But wow, very tastey. The borscht was on point as well. Over all this is definitely a place to check out.

I’m a perogy connoisseur. I go out of my way to find a good perogy. This place my friends, is the best perogy I have ever had. It was absolutely perfect in every way. Also, it’s a lovely family based business. This is a must try! We came here from the Lower Mainland!

This is hands down the best Ukraine food I’ve ever eaten! Just thinking about that delicious creamy sauce and the hearty scrumptious perogies with the sausage. Can't wait to have it again! I ate most of it before I could take a photo because it smelt so darn good. Love the combo selections too!

Love Cecil's. Food is always piping hot and delicious. Over 20 visits and never had a meal that wasn't exceptional. Jonny is very kind and courteous. Lovely business all round

First Time at Cecil's Perogies! Okay Eyes 👀 Bigger than MY stomach...Thank goodness for takeout boxes! 5 Perogies, 1 cabbage roll, roast beef and a Large Borscht Soup & Bun! IT WAS ALL SO GOOD...Definitely GOING BACK FOR SECONDS! 😁
question mark
just waiting for the day that they finally do doordash or skipthedishes, because i have cecil's perogies cravings everyday without fail.

First time trying Cecil's perogies and they were amazing! The sauce was to die for! And it's the only place you can buy traditional cottage cheese and dill perogies! I am impressed! They are the best ones I have tried that aren't made by my gramma, Mom or me! (Christmas dinner may have just gotten easier!)

The service is friendly best ppl ever and best perogies and sauce ever! You want some kickass perogies go to Cecils!!! Mmmmmm.

Unique place on Richter, saw the sign and needed a bite to eat. Joshua one of the owners is a very friendly guy, I had the feeling everyone is his friend. Anyways, the food is outstanding, smokies, perogies, and cabbage rolls -how much more Northern Europe can you get? Bring your appetite, the servings are larger than you’d expect. JUst bought a house very nearby so we will definitely be going back...often!

Perogies and cabbage roll. Always amazing food!

This is good.. I eat here now and again and it is really good. Everything tastes and looks homemade which is huge.
Garnet_jensen
An all-time favorite!. Perogies and sauce are fantastic! The roast beef and sausages are also very good. I eat here at least once a month, maybe not the healthiest but damn is it good! I would stay away from the borscht and cabbage rolls though, not great.

Service?!?. I decided to try Cecil's for the first time today & I will never be back. I walked in & there was a guy filling the pop cooler. I stood there looking around for a bit until he said hi & went back to filling the pop cooler so I found a table & sat down. The place was empty except for one guy eating. I waited & the guy continued to fill the cooler. A single woman walked in & she sat down. The guy kept going back & forth with pop to fill the cooler. Three other people walked in, one of them stood up front looking at the menu above the till until the guy offered her a menu & then continued to fill the cooler. The single woman got up & asked for a menu. I just left. I don't know if this is a sit down restaurant or an order at the till kind of restaurant, there is no signage saying so. Either way, I'm not going back & you can trust that I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Pretty Good. I love going there the odd time. I like the sauce on the perogies and the food is quite filling. The one problem that I have with it is that if you eat there too often it becomes a little too much.<br/><br/>I recommend at least trying it. It is only for some people though.
Shay_lynn
I did not like these perogies at all.. they were doughy and pricey and the cabbage rolls were awful as well. <br/>I love the perogie girls truck , there perogies are truly authentic served with sour cream and onions. and nicely priced. <br/>they are amazing... sorry cecil.. but your stuff is so wrong..
Dory
It was just ok. Borscht tasted like the beets were pickled, not fresh - so overly acidic. Peroghy dough was mush and bland. Maybe I've been spoiled by all the great Ukrainian food I've had on the prairies. But I won't be back. Service was quick and friendly though.
Frank
Very good. Filling and fair priced. Borsch has been a bit off sometimes

Decent. Pretty good but very overpriced.

Deliciousness. A great place to bring the kids for the super fast service. My husband doesn't normally enjoy perogies but he dearly loves the creamy sauce served at Cecil's. with an ice cold glass of their peach juice, a plate of perogies smothered in sauce and bacon bits, it's almost like visiting your grandma's for dinner... Without the cheek pinching.
Acidrain
Not crazy on the sauce. I've been to Cecil's a few times and have enjoyed their perogies on some occasions, not so much on others. My biggest beef is that they do not serve sour cream with their perogies and you must endure their buttery, heart clogging sauce. I asked them why customers aren't given the option and they said their homemade sauce is better. I beg to differ. I would go back as I love homemade perogies but think they could be better.
Mia
I would say this place is alright. I had the perogies and they were worth a try I guess. My chocolate milk was pass the expiry date by 3 months, so that kinda sucked when I opened it and took a sip lol I am in no rush to return but I guess I would maybe have them again if I was with someone who really wanted to try them.. Other then that I don't see myself returning. I also personally like my perogies Pam fried aswell :) but maybe it's not the authentic way? Oh well.

The Perogies I Crave. I love Cecils...any chance I get to go there, I do. I love their dense perogies with the magic sauce...some type of cheesy dill sauce. They serve it with a little cup of bacon bits and a buttery cheesy bun. If you care about your weight, don't go here, but if you are having a day where you need some "bad for you" delicious food, this is the place to go. Their sausages and cabbage rolls are pretty good, but definitely go for the perogies! I wish I could have some now! Best place ever!

Years of delicious food. I love this place. I have been going for probably 15 years now. I love it but whenever I eat there I prepare for an after lunch nap. <br/><br/>Love, love, love it.
HappyFish
Gross doughy, bland perogies. Bland, tasteless cabbage rolls and hot-dog-like kielbasa. I was so disappointed by this place and will never understand what some peoples' obsession with this place is. A disgrace to Urkanian food!

Super unique and tasty perogies. Priced<br/>Like a fine dining restaurant... When it's an eatery. Still really tasty. Health wise, I am not sure whether the sauce is made of cream or butter, it's extremely rich. If you haven't been here, try it, but only order like 4 perogies, because the portions are huge!!!! Students special is good too. All in all it was very tasty. Reminded me of a home cooked meal.
Tyler Kraushar
Food is good, but plan on waiting awhile. Unorganized order system means 30 min wait for lunch.

It was "Just Ok".. The Perogies were good, the sauce was fine, the cabbage roll was bland, the sausage was fine, and it was all luke warm at best. The bread however was amazing.. I give them a 4.5/10.. Not what I expected after all the hype, and definitely not worth the price.. I'll stick to making my own Perogies from now on..

So good. Omg Cecil's perogies are the best I don't really like perogies but the first time I tried Cecil's I was hooked I love the sauce and the cheese buns are so good
Johnson Is My Idiot Friend
One of Johnson's favorites. This is why he is an idiot.. I literally gagged. Twice. Enough said.

Cecils Perogies. I think Cecils gives you a good bang for the buck. Very rich and very tasty although it may not be heartsmart. For a once in a while meal it can not be beaten. Do a quick hoof up Knox first as it is only a couple of blocks away and believe me its a treat afterwards. Personally I go for the Ellens 5perogies cabbage rolls, kielbasa, roast beef, cheese bun, gravy sauce and bacon bits. I give it a 9.6/10
Brett
Best perogies period. If you love perogies then you should really try Cecil's! I love it and so does anyone I know that's eaten there. Fair priced too.

Love it. I love going to Cecils perogy house every year when I take my vacations the Student special is the BEST!<br/>but I have a few corrections on previous posts<br/><br/>"3. They used bought bacon bits...I mean seriously. If you spend all the time and labour to make tons of perogies and cabbage rolls why not take the extra couple of minutes and make good home made bacon bits. "<br/><br/>The bacon use at the restaurant is REAL bacon, fried up and ground up! they take the "extra minutes".. it takes a couple HOURS to make each batch and it high quality bacon.<br/><br/>"Cecil is an 80 yr old man who makes perogies.. give him a break"<br/>This makes me laugh, I'll pass this on to the old man when i see hin next. Cecil is i think 60 ish, <br/>He devotes most of his time making the Cheese buns fresh everymorning, and the ladies in the back make perogies from scratch everyday! <br/>the erason the cabage rolls are "different " are because they are made meatless.<br/><br/>the "mystery" sause is a creamy dill sauce. and there are many different spices in the sause that not even the employees know whats in it. only Cecil and Darlene.

We all have our weaknesses.. I remember my first visit here and thinking that my local companions were crazy and taste-bud challenged to think that these perogies were great but somewhere along the line I got addicted. Don't get me wrong...this is not great food. The dough is ridiculously thick, the filling scant and the weird-ass mystery sauce of dill and greasy-oily cream is truly an acquired taste but somehow I learned to like even it. What can I say, a couple of times a year...we all have our weaknesses. <br/><br/>What I can say for sure is avoid the cabbage rolls and borscht as there's absolutely no redeeming quality with either. The borscht is dark brown and acrid, bitter tasting in a way that renders it inedible. <br/><br/>I'm strangely addicted but I can't recommend it.

Cabbage rolls.. The perogies were good and same with the beef. The Kabasa i had was decent as well. But then we get into the things i did not like.<br/><br/>1. The cabbage roll was terrible. Im not sure what they put in it but it was horrid.<br/><br/>2. The Sauce they put on the pergoies made me sad, sort of a dill and sour cream sauce. It was unusual, and why use it when good old fashioned butter works well.<br/><br/>3. They used bought bacon bits...I mean seriously. If you spend all the time and labour to make tons of perogies and cabbage rolls why not take the extra couple of minutes and make good home made bacon bits.

Calling what is served at this establishment "authentic ukrainain food" is offensive to anyone with Ukrainian heritage. Real perogies do not swim in "mystery sauce" I have only ever ordered food Here once. A mistake I intend not to repeat. Ever.

Love ceeeccils. Any local from Kelowna has been to cecils perogies... When I was in high school this place would be jam packed with people from school! I have never had anything other then the perogies and roast beef, and they are fantastic! I am really surprised to read that people dislike this place... the perogies and sauce r unreal! as for the person who made the offensive comment about Cecil, that was really out of line, he is a really nice guy and to call someone a predator is really offensive. Cecil is an 80 yr old man who makes perogies.. give him a break. Any local 20-30 yr old knows how good cecils is!

Mediocre. Their perogies are good but there isn't much love put into the food. I think they need to re-work their way they make the food and make it more slavic style. The borsht was the worst I have ever had in my entire life. It was watery with no real consistency, had a bad flavor and chunks of veggies in it. That's not borsht. Please, make my culture more proud and make your food better :(

A few weeks ago, I went to Kelowna with the 1st Gen Civic group for a weekend of carshows. One of those shows was the Knox Mountain hill climb/show and as with a lot of events like this, there are always food carts and portable food vendors. Some really fancy ones are extensions of existing restaurants such as Cecil's Perogies. Cecil himself overlooking the operation I ordered the 4 perogies Kubassa...and added a few more perogies. It came with onions and this sauce that was probably sour-creme based, and laced dill. I tossed some saurkraut for the kubassa (sausage with bits of cheese inside). The perogies were massive things. They were nice and moist inside, and the skin was tender. I'm getting hungry just looking at my own pictures and to be honest, they'd be worth driving to Kelowna for...haha, more motivation for me to make it next year! They had hamburgers and cheeseburgers as well, which were good, but if you can get some awesome perogies, why got get awesome perogies? I can't wa
