Pretty good place!. I love their mojitos and margaritas. Great Appies too. Love the tuna tacos and the pouting. Yum. Definitely go there again for a relaxing afternoon with girlfriends!
Nice view.... and there's a big park out the windows as well.. This is actually probably one of the hardest places for me to rate. It really is on the verge of being awesome, let me try to explain.
There are a couple of things you will notice as you first walk in. First is that the atmosphere is "big city." That's not a great analogy as I've lived in big cities and this isn't what their typical pub looks like. They have a massive TV above the bar and more TVs surrounding the place then you could ever hope to pay attention to. So if you're looking for a place to catch the game this place will have it on if anywhere does.
The second thing that you're going to notice is that it looks like they rolled the Shark Club bus down to Kits Beach on the day after final exams and gave them all a contract. There is no shortage of talent walking around this place.
So now, you'll have to order a drink and again you'll find that they have everything that you would hope that they would have in both the beer and hard bar departments.
After a drink of course there are the appys and main course. I have eaten here a few times and chose something different each time and I have left happy with my choices.
So.... why am I not giving it a 10/10 and why is the approval rating for this place not outstanding?
It is in the training of the workers. First, some of the workers were "picked off Kits Beach" not cherry picking the best from local pubs. So granted there is some inexperience there. This was supplemented for the first bit as they brought in Servers from other Shark's Clubs from around the country but most, if not all, of them have gone back home.
The second issue with the training is that it is absolutely ingrained in the Servers to upsell everything. Upselling is common everywhere but there is just something forced about it here and it is unrelenting. The other thing about the upselling here is that price is never mentioned. So when they ask if you'd like that burger with a Caesar salad or that rum and coke was with Bacardi, right? You are often caught off guard when looking at the bill at the end of the night.
There is just a fake quality to the conversation there. Everyone is really friendly and super interested in whatever you're interested in. You know if you hate soccer just tell me that you hate soccer and lets move on. It kind of makes it feel like you're talking to that kid in high school who always wanted to please everyone and in the end pleased no-one.
So hopefully with time the staff here will settle into their own personalities and this place will reach it's full potential.
