Review Painted Pony Cafe - Kamloops

Real first nations cuisine! I love the food here and the atmosphere. The staff are super nice. My favourite is the salmon Bannock and those fries are always fresh and crispy 😋

Haven't eaten here since last year. Today I ordered a hot chocolate and chicken bannock burger. The waitress was pleasant and polite. Received our drinks promptly. My wife's hot water for tea was like warm. My hot chocolate was great, lots of whipped topping with chocolate dusting on it. It took 20min for our food to come (it was lunch time but there was only 3 other people in the restaurant). My chicken bannock burger consisted of two mass produced breaded chicken fingers (the ones that are stamped into the same shape). They were over cooked. The bannock was undercooked and gooey on the inside (tasted like raw flour). The lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. The waitress never came back to the table to see if anything was missing or if the food was palatable. I was disappointed for two reasons. First, my previous meal here last year was really good. I'm not sure if they changed ownership but the quality of this meal was really poor. Next, from reading their menu one would expect less processed food (they have elk, salmon, and buffalo options). The fries tasted like they came from a bag (ie McCain super fries) and their chicken burger patties looked like the cheap Safeway brand chicken fingers. Personally, if I had people over and I served them the meal I had today, I would be embarrassed. However, my wife enjoyed her pulled pork bannock burger.

Wednesday the 6th.. I've always liked this place to go eat but recently I brought my family here for dinner & we waited about 40 mins for food. And it wasn't satisfying. My chicken burger was missing half of the toppings. My sisters indian taco was missing half the toppings & my other sister ordered a poutine with her burger and the cheese was still cold with cold fries. I sent my food back and waited another 10 minutes for them to complete my plate.. Another thing we asked for our bill & they over charged us $20 more than our actual bill. Not impressed I don't think I'll come back!

Amazing food and service! Big portions, delicious, and quick. You can also pick up a painted pony souvenir shirt. I highly recommend the indian tacos, corn soup, bannock, bannock pudding and huckleberry pie.

Tried to give them a shot but was unable to. Another local favourite was closed. Needed a place to pop into before an appointment for a quick cup of coffee and hopefully something to eat. Recalled the Painted Pony and had been wanting to try it. Checked the website and it said they were open at 9:00 am (it was about 9:50am). Drove over and the sign outside said 10am. Waited the extra 10 minutes until 10am but the place was still locked and dark, nobody around. Gave up about 10:10am when there was still nobody in sight and I had to get to my appointment. Definitely a regular day, not special hours, etc. Think I saw them pulling in as I was leaving. Maybe I’ll try another time. Disappointing.

Love the bannock, it's always fluffy and tasty. Large portions of what I have had (pained pony breakfast, ocean(?) pony breakfast and Indian taco. Go there to get full for sure. Staff is always polite, doesnt bother me when I have a mouth full but pretty prompt. Love it here

Where else can you get a deer steak for breakfast? I was excited to hear about this place and was looking forward to it all morning, was not disappointed. Will be back for other game meats when I have the chance. So glad to have found the Painted Pony!

Such nice people! I have a horrifying amount of allergies and they were really helpful in accommodating me. Still alive, and it was tasty, so that's about as good as it can get 😝

I loved the Rez Fries. Very scrumptious lunch. I was very full with that Appy for lunch. Something new on next order. Hopefully soon.

I will definitley be eating here on my next trip to Kamloops. Heard some awesome things about the Food AND the Owner from "Rusty,s" new Mom. Thank You for helping to heal a broken heart!

I loved the "elk meat loaf" my Ma used go love the "fish soup".. I love the "scrambled breaky with balony n prem.."

I love eating here always love my bannock. Staff is friendly. Its nice to eat some pf our traditional foods in a restaurant setting.

We were only in town for the day having arrived on the Rocky Mountaineer... The food and welcome we had here was nothing but first class! My Buffalo Ribs melted in my mouth and the Elk and Bannock was just perfection! Thank you from a UK family passing through...

Tonight was my first visit to the painted pony cafe and I loved it. My grandparents have been many times already and love it. I will definitely be telling everyone about it. Great buffalo ribs and the bannock was to die for.
