Review Harold's Family Restaurant - Kamloops

Excellent service and spot on food throughout my lifetime. Harold's is a must when in Kamloops. Home-style food arrives quickly and with a smile, no matter the size of the group or how many mods on the order. Don't ever change! ^_^

Wow , one of the best places to eat. First time going for dinner, food is awesome , quality is perfect great flavors and you are not disappointed with the portions. My son go there for breakfast they brag about how delicious they are. One of these days i will have to go for breakfast.

Fast and friendly service from the staff, great tasting food and homemade apple pie. A handy location on the Trans Canada east service road. Will definitely eat here again.

Start off by saying GOOD food...BAD experience. We were evacuated from the fires and our first breakfast there we came in as a table of 10 (we are neighbors and also related) they didn't want to seat us together because it was too hard for the waitress. They sat half of us on the other side of the restaurant. They wouldn't let another member of the family come to our table to talk to us...no visiting. We ordered lunch to go and came back the next morning and they REFUSED to serve the other half of our group because her husband wasn't there....the food we got was good but if your looking for a smaller eat...like fruit or a breakfast sandwich they don't have. Its also more expensive than other places. Just the attitude and atmosphere ruined it. Every other place we have been to has been super accommodating and reasonable. We all won't be be returning.

The food is alright. They make one good milkshake. I do hope they work and improve their customer experience through server interaction.

Great service and food. Very filling. Cheesecake was great not too sweet.

They make a decent burger and the french fries are freshly cut. The restaurant's decor is an attempt to give it the feel of an old diner, and the booth seating is comfortable although a bit tighter than I'd like even during the downswing of the pandemic. Staff were pleasant and the service was good, although prices seem to have recently jumped upward.

Showed up as a joiner at the table on Father's Day and the server noticed immediately. Our server was amazing. Very attentive to both my teenage sons and the two of us as well. The food portions were incredible. Way more than I expected for my Chicken Caesar salad.. absolutely delicious. I will DEFINITELY be going back.

On Aug 5 , 2017@ 5 p.m. , my husband and I took our granddaughter to Harold's family restaurant, what a mistake!. Been here before never any issues . Had to ask for glasses of water , when we got our water 10 mins later the glasses of water were overfilled very lil ice ( waiting on ice , server said) I said to this server can I get menus, another 10 mins plus we finally got our order request in I said to the server hopefully it won't take long , our granddaughter was getting hungry, half an hour later plus we got our food , the food was not worth the wait, my husband's burger was burnt , my spaghetti was sub par and my grand daughters chicken strips were dry fries were disgusting and so we're the flies swarming around the food we were trying to eat , gross! Forgot to mention my husband had to go and ask where's our order. The server was never around to say how's everything more water nothing asked for take out containers from server never got them again my husband had to go to the cashier server station to ask for the containers. There were at least 4 servers standing around doing nothing not focused on customers gossip/ talk time is meant for breaks not while your attending to customers. When I was having my dinner I know the servers were talking about me and looking at me , that's a real comfortable situation. I won't Apologize for being direct and expecting good service , good food , and less flies swarming around my food! We paid $35.65 for a meal I wouldn't serve my dog! And yes no tip!

It is a nice establishment decent decor has lots of memorabilia on the walls. The waitstaff is always kind and welcoming. There efforts to help support the evacuees of the wildfires in bc is an inspiration and they should be applauded for keeping their business in good standing in spite of recent events. The food is good never had a bad experience epically with the server with short black hair cut in a bob. Over all a wonderful little place to have breakfast.

My family has been enjoying Harold's for years . Great services. I love the salad and they have great fries! Harold's is always busy but the servers work very hard to make the customers happy.

My Sister and I were travelling through Kamloops, on our way home to Calgary, we stopped in at Harold's for a hot meal.
It turned out to be a very disappointing and frustrating Experience!
First, we waited over 25 min for our food, We were served a limp, Ceaser salad that looked like it was made the day before, a few pieces of bread thrown on the plate with roast beef on it, and the carrots that accompanied it were
dry -came from a frozen bag of pre-peeled veg...no taste to them whatsoever!
We sent the caesar back and our waitress assured us we would not pay for it, I hadn't been able to eat any of it. When I went to pay the bill, A surly Woman, who had not been our waitress, told me the amount without showing me the bill, I had to ask to physically see the bill and sure enough, the caesar was on it! Very sleazy business indeed -does not deserve to call themselves a "Resturant"!

We arrived at 5:45pm, not busy at all, and just two of us. We sat for 10min before we had to ask for a menu. After we placed our order, we sat with zero contact from any waitress for 45min, still no food. There were 2 other tables in our area that had the same service. We walked out and took our business elsewhere. There wasn't any shortage of staff either, standing around etc.

Good home cooked food. Had Salisbury steak dinner. Needed salt but was very fresh and warm. Would definitely come back to try the breakfast.

you get what you think your gonna get at this place. Home style breaky. Was good, just what I needed on my road trip. Had the eggs sunny side up with bacon and hashbrowns and toast. I would order the exact same thing next time.

Service was slow. Took forever for someone to take our order and waited 45 min for it to arrive. Our meal wasn't anything fantastic or something I would go back for. The waitress was extremely nice though.

Stopped by for a take out order during their dinner rush. Definitely a home style diner.

Staff/Speed/Service: Staff was pretty friendly, when I ordered they said 5-10 minutes for my order. It took 15 minutes but not for lack of effort, I stood around just observing while waiting for my food. All the staff was communicating with each other nicely, and orders were flying out. I never saw anything go back. I suspect outside of the dinner rush I probably would have been out of there in 5 minutes.

Food: I purchased a deluxe burger with extra bacon. It was worth the $16 dollars it came out to total. Big juicy burger, good portion of fries. Definitely satisfying if you want a good hearty burger. Be prepared to use some napkins.

Great Burgers. This is an old Kamloops establishment. It is a diner. It is not fancy. However, we have been here mostly for breakfast (which is excellent) and lunch. We usually have burgers for lunch and if feeling especially decadent, a milkshake. The burgers and fries are always hot, and the fries are worth the calories. The milkshakes are to die for! And....the service is always excellent. Your coffee cup is never left empty. Not once do you have to ask for a refill. It's always busy. There is a reason for that!

Kenneth. My wife and I went there for breakfast on Sunday the fifth and were very disappointed with the service. Our orders sat on the counter for approximately five minutes while the waitress rushed over to a table of six people and delivered coffee, all the while chatting everyone up. She finished doing that, walked right past our order and started doing something else behind the counter. As a result our breakfasts were luke warm at best. Harold's used to be very good and i would have recommended it to anyone. Not anymore. We won't be returning.

Harold's used to be my go-to for a big, homemade, juicy burger in Kamloops. However, now the patties are small, dried out, and taste like the ones you buy in the frozen food section of a grocery store. Very disappointing.

Ignored for 10 min. Then givin half filled drinks that where just thrown on the table. Rude older server that jumped down my through as soon as I ordered. Will probably never go back.

Unfortunate. We were given poor slow service and after finding my calamari clumped in lumps and raw in the middle the head waitress tried to charge me full price for then started arguing with me . We were there for a birthday dinner and very disappointed. We will never go there again and would suggest pulling into the McDonalds instead to anyone considering it.

Found the service to be a bit slow...also my and my partners meals came out of re kitchen about 10 minutes apart, with a confusing excuse that the cooks had turned down the water on the stove so my eggs didn't poach. When I got my meal, my partner was nearly finished his; the eggs were pretty good but my hashbrowns tasted like they had simply been boiled and tossed in oil whereas my partners were golden and crispy. Such drastic inconsistency is not very professional, especially when the total bill for our 2 breakfasts was almost $40. Pretty brutal. And to top it off, when we were paying, the cook was shooting us glares from in the kitchen.

Ignored for 10 mins when I got there. Food took 20 mins to get to me and came from a table behind me. Coffee refill took 20 more mins to get.And they were not busy. Over all time for a table of 1 for breakfast with 1 coffee refill , one hour 15 mins.
Mike
Typical greasy spoon breakfast. The food was quick and yummy.

I can appreciate a good homemade meal. Koodoos to the cooks that take the time to make their food that much better! However, the service is awful. My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant quite a few times. Unfortunately the service hasn't improved. Being a server myself I can say that I would never serve my tables the way most of these ladys do! No matter how friendly you are as a server you should not neglect your main service duties. I would really encourage the service managers to step up and make harolds have a better reputation for their service. I do like eating at harolds for the food but because of poor service I will never be a regular.

It's a diner. Its a diner, but as good as diners get. I kind of think of it as a Denny's without the classiness of a Denny's. :^|
Food was good, not great, but good. Service was very friendly. The east end of the restaurant has this really loud blower in the wall, could barely hear myself think, next time I'll try the other end. I'll try it again!

Bad service.... I am not quite sure what draws the crowds to this place...guess because people thinks it is a family owned business which it apparently is not..first no parking...second when you walk in no one on the staff even look at you...its almost like they don't want people in there from the looks you get...third the cleanliness of the tables/booths are not good. The food is okay but plan on being there a while waiting for it...
Monica
Everytime it's different.... Last time I went it was terrible and this time it was great!!!!

Harold's. I like their food, but it could use a bit of a cleaning. Have seen the floor behind the counter a few times and not sure of the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Best Food in Town. If you haven't already tried it you are really missing something. Best service, best food = Harold's in Kamloops. Don't wait to try it out.

Great Breakfast. Always busy, always good. Classic family diner. It''s a great place to get a truckers style breakfast or a massive sandwich before a road trip.

Good meal. The guy at the gas station said that Harolds was as good as he had had, I can't argue with him, it was good, but how can you mess up halibut?

This place is busy all the time. It’s always hard to find a parking spot. This is the closest thing to a Diner that we can find in Kamloops but is it a worthy place for Guy Fieri from Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives to drive in to Kamloops and get the skinny on the secrets behind their signature dishes? A quick scan of their menu tells me that Guy Fieri will likely not come to Kamloops to check out Harold’s Family Restaurant. There is nothing unique on their menu - no signature dishes here. So w

Harold's has a long history in Kamloops. Although, it's changed hands a few times since the namesake proprietor opened the doors in 1959, the restaurant seems to have a loyal following. I imagine there are Kamloopsians out there that have more than a few memories of this local DDE.
