Review Nam Thanh Restaurant - Hamilton

I used to really like ordering from here but it seems like they're missing all the important details from my orders these days. Aside from missed items in my orders sometimes, the one that really bothers me the most is the lack of attention to the notes (Uber Eats). I always ask for extra hoisin sauce as that's an important part of my pho experience. Not only did I not receive any extra hoisin sauce today, I just didn't even receive the standard inclusion of hoisin/hot sauce at all - nothing at all. This might seem like a small issue but it literally happens during 90% of my orders and I've ordered from here at least 30 times in the last year. Never again. Do you know where I've had a great experience? The new pho place in Waterdown, Pho Viet T&T. The broth isn't as good but I'd rather get less tasty broth since they actually read notes and provide extra hoisin sauce.

Got them Sunday, Dec 5th , 2021. Ordered the house special which is to include Shrimp , Beef , Chicken and vegetables on a bed of noodles. There was 1 piece of shaved beef 1 small piece of chicken and 3 shrimp. MEAT lovers should avoid this stingy restaurant, you will be paying for just noodles for 15.99$. Called them to see what they could offer because of this dissatisfying meal. The lady argued with me (basically saying I was lying) , and then she offered a "sorry" .... I asked her what she was going to do about it? She said they weigh out and give the same amount to everyone. I then told her that , if this is what she serves everyone then that's extremely cheap. She said I should call her back later cause she's busy and said she won't do anything about either way...... This is legitimately my first time ever complaining about any restaurant , so no "Karen's " here. Avoid this place , horrible customer service and terrible quality !!!

Tried the rare beef pho and some fresh shrimp spring rolls and really liked them both. The rare beef cooked nicely in the broth, giving a nice fat to the broth. I ordered the medium soup and barely finished it. Really tasty and well packaged for take out. Next time I'll try in person. It's a family run place, and you may see some of the family's adorable kids skipping around the restaurant. It reminded me a little of actually being in Asia.

We wanted to support a local family owned business but the food was very underwhelming. We ordered tofu green curry and they forgot to add tofu… they took it back for us and then put in two pieces. The curry itself was very bland and there was no coconut milk used. There was barely any curry either, it was so dry. Not at all what we expected. Service was not good. They didn’t bring us any utensils or napkins and we had to ask for them. Did not refill our water either. I wouldn’t recommend.

Fantastic pho and vermicelli had to come back the next day for more. Staff is really sweet and so is the bubble tea!

my sister and i get bubble tea every week from here, and it's honestly the best we've had (especially in comparison to other places)! the staff is great (there's a young girl whom we often see, and she is the sweetest!), the service is fast; definitely recommend! :)

Amazing and authentic food! Quick service great atmostphere and delicious food! I've had multiple dishes from this place and I've loved every single one! Highly recommend any of the Pho and the Grilled Chicken Vermicelli Bowls!

Service was slow - only 1 other customer in store- ordered pad thai and a Boba tea Recieved pad thai and a Boba smoothie. When I asked the server she said you orderd smoothie. I drank it anyway. Ask for it to be dairy free. A few hours later I figured out it was not.

My husband and I were regulars at Pho Nam Thanh up until a month or two ago until we've had a few bad experiences build up. One instance, my husband was home for lunch and I called to place our order early so we could sit and dine in. The owner said to me "Why? What's your rush you can't order here?", we thought that was pretty rude but we shrugged it off.<br/><br/>Another incident was we arrived there closer to later in the night on a weekday around 6:30 and as we finished our food we commented on how it was pretty quiet. The owner responded telling us "Yea, were waiting on you so we can go home." even though they were supposed to be open another couple of hours.<br/><br/>The next instance, we went and dined in and I forgot the number and name of the soup I usually order since I always just ask for "vegetable noodle soup". It's one of those menus with pages and pages of menu items with numbers that you have to right down on a form. You don't order directly to the server/owner. <br/><br/>We sat down and I asked him which number the soup was or the name of it on the menu. He told me the TomYum soup, so I ordered it. When it arrived I knew it wasn't the soup I usually order and said it wasn't the right one. He told me "Well that's what you ordered!" and continued to say this to me. Then pulled out our form we filled out, threw it down onto the table, pointed at what I had written and said "LOOK!"<br/><br/>We just decided to order the right one and he didn't comp us for the other soup. Which we said fine, well take it home and my husband will eat it tomorrow for lunch. We were pretty ticked off about it but we decided to go back again a week or two later. <br/><br/>I went to the washroom and while I was in the washroom, the server/owner brought the menus and the paper pad and told my husband "Make sure she orders the right one this time!" I came back and my husband said were leaving and were never coming back.<br/><br/>Ever since then we haven't been back. The food was always good but the service either went really awesome and they guy was super friendly or he was VERY rude and aggressive.

Delicious food .. Good service and the interior of the restaurant looks modern and clean. Padthai is a recommended dish in this restaurant! Awesome!

The food is always fresh and delicious and we've never had to wait very long for our order. In speaking with the owner he told me that he makes daily trips to local markets and local food suppliers so that he is getting the freshest and most local ingredients possible. It is clear that they put a lot of passion into what they do! Their pho soup is my go to anytime I am feeling sick- that stuff is magic, better than Neo Citran, I swear! And their spring rolls and house special pad thai are to die for. This is our households go-to take out spot (why order fast food when you can have real food?). Sometimes I purposely forget to pull something for dinner just so I can get my Thai food fix.

I always have a hard time after leaving this place to decide if I actually liked it or not.<br/>The service is a dismal. We got a shrimp roll with our meal and the server/owner just placed on the table, noodles still warm, no plates, napkins or utensils. We had to ask for any sauces and they only have the bare minimum<br/>We had to go up to ask and he said yes of course but didn't bring it until the main meal was served.<br/>The lemongrass chicken is OK, but missing the flavors that I expect from a great Thai dinner.<br/>The price is reasonable, the food comes fast, the interior is clean, but the service and food are lacking.

I'm in this area on business and have eaten here twice. <br/>The place is very clean and recently renovated. The service is abrupt, but I just expect that from Vietnamese places. The menu is viet and Thai and reasonably priced <br/>My first visit I had the Hue style Beef noodle soup. Overall t was pretty good, nice broth, fresh condiments (especially generous with bean sprouts). My only complaint is that they use fine vermicelli noodles (like in pho) instead of the slightly thicker noodles which are usually in Hue style soups. <br/><br/>Second visit I had vegetable tom yum (the small size 4.50) and chicken & rice (8.50). The soup is only ok. It's cobbled together using pho broth, Chile oil and a bit of pineapple.i do like the use of bean curd in it. <br/>The chiclen was a deboned thigh, I think, quite large and intact like a chicken steak. I had expected it to have some char but what I got was very marinated and gently cooked, no charting. My initial disappointment evaporated when I tried it. Delicious marinade, succulent, garnished with fried green onion. Surprising chunks of black pepper reminding me that Vietnam was occupied by the French. Put this thing on a bun and open a chicken sandwich franchise. <br/>Asked for hot sauce and I was given what I think is a house made srirachi style sauce. Pretty good. <br/><br/>Never mind the grumpy guy and give this place a shot.

Doesn't Stay Open Till Posted Time on a Friday. Got in to Waterdown at 9pm. Was looking forward to eating at Nam Thanh which was open until 10pm. Arrived at 9:20pm, the door was locked. The open sign was on and below that it said that they were open till 10pm on a Friday. Very disappointing, will never trust this restaurant again.

Yuck and rude.. Their fresh spring rolls are really good. I suggest ordering just those for two reasons. Number one, the rest of their food is borderline disgusting. The pad Thai is swimming in a thick sauce that resembles a cream soup with pieces of food floating around. Secondly, if you order just he fresh spring rolls he gets sooooooo angry. Honestly it is worth it just to piss him off. The food is so disgusting it's no wonder he gets orders for just that.

Very Rude owner!!Been there 4 times with the kids, food is average but the service each time worst than the last. This owner (assuming here, because if he wasn't I would assume he would be fired same day) is Rude and really does not understand the meaning of "hospitality" industry. Never have I seen anyone treat his customers so badly and with so much dis-respect like this guy. Will never go there again. Younger gentleman smiles at least, but food is not worth it. No food is worth putting up with that guy!!!

With all the new restaurants In Waterdown this place better clean up their act. Bangkok in Dundas is clean , reasonably priced, fast and very hoapitable.

The service is horrible. I've been here about 10 times and the waitstaff are also the chefs? <br/>I walked in and wasn't even seated for 10 minutes as they were busy cooking inside. Foods meh<br/>The place is not worth a visit. Bangkok spoon in dundas is a much better choice

Pho lover. The man that runs this restaurant during the day is very rude, and has no problem telling you whats on his mind . He told me that hot sauce is for customers that eat in , not for take out .. I guess the small condiment containers that barely cost a penny , are putting the man into debt . I had another experience when i just tried to order spring rolls, he rudely told me that i couldn't just order spring rolls I had to order more ..??? The food is hit and miss most times anyways ...The last time i ordered from here my food was so disgusting i literally just threw it in the trash. Stay away from this spot

Worst Thai restaurant and top 5 worst restaurants you can ever go to. The service is dismal, the guy that owns it is incredibly abrasive and doesn't care. The food is lathered in MSG and should be a cuisine into itself. Stay far away, try Bangkok Thai in Dundas instead.

I have been to this restaurant a handful of times mostly for take out at lunch time as I work in the area. On Monday I called to order some fresh shrimp spring rolls for lunch. The man asked if that was all I wanted and I said yes. He said "oh my god" and hung up the phone. I called back and said that we must have been disconnected, could they do my order. In a very rude, sarcastic tone he said, "yes, your HUGE order will be ready in 10 mins, we have no customers". So, I had given him the benefit of the doubt that he had accidentally hung up on me but I guess my intuition was right, my order was just not good enough for them to bother. I told them don't bother and went to Bangkok Spoon in Dundas, they were more than happy to do my HUGE order and they are soooo much better anyway. I will never be calling or going to this restaurant again and have advised all my friends and relatives that live in this area not to go either.
