Wonderful "hole in the wall" classic diner on John Street. Seriously good, pretty cheap food. Satisfies that breakfast urge. The reuben and home fries were crispy, salty, and filling. Also have hot sauce available, not just ketchup. The green smoothie tastes better than it looks - started out like broccoli, but ended sweeter like the peach puree. Felt like a healthy choice to get some veg! My dining companion had to get the smoked salmon benny and it was everything she was hoping for.

My goal today was to try somewhere new for breakfast. Saw John Street Diner on Google and listened to some good reviews about breakfast! The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and were very friendly and attentive throughout! I was surprised to see a periogi breakfast on the menu and knew I needed to try it! Everything was delicious and super decent prices! Will be back for sure!

John Street Diner is one of the few remaining traditional breakfast diners with reasonable prices, great portions, and delicious food. The incredibly friendly and attentive service staff is outstanding, and as a result we come here about twice a month. Keep up the great work!

Very surprised!
Great food. One of the best diners in the hammer. I would not have expected to get such a high level of quality from the food in a diner. I was even further shocked that the prices are so reasonable. I had the eggs Benedict, it came perfectly poached medium on a crispy yet still chewy English muffin with a perfect hollandaise to boot. Now I want to try everything on the menue. Breakfast is amazing. Coffee is over shadowed by the great food and stellar service. I have never finished off the home fries at a breakfast place until now crispy crunchy and a bit zesty. Great work guys . See you soon for breakfast. Going for chicken and waffles next.

Had a very pleasant experience. Chatted with the owner and the food was super tasty. Also highly recommend the green smoothie. It was SO good. And my 2 year old drank most of it!

This is the most difficult review I've had to write. I've ALWAYS been a huge fan of John Street Diner, especially for the budget friendly pricing and excellent service. And while those two still seems to be the constant, the Food was terrible.
The home fries were SALTY and had a burnt taste to them. While the eggs were cooked as we asked, the ham and peameal had absolutely no flavor. And to be frank.. eggs and meats all tasted the same. As if they were cooked on the same grill top (with it being cleaned).
We'll be taking a break from here.

I worked in this place for 3 years , since 2015 & cleaned up a lot of drug users and shitty people coming in and out. Now that as of January 28 th of 2018 I'm gone from this place for being too nice and dealing with "Very Ungrateful Owners" I am gone from John Street Diner ! The food will never be the same and my friends and family will hopefully never go back to this place for any reason. John St Diner is Rated 4.6 , let watch it go down lol !

Husband and I ate there on July 7th
The food was great. The only thing that's real as was the coffee isn't bottomless, also the prices on drinks were somewhat expensive (I get that milkshakes are not cheap but the coffee was a bit expensive and apparently pop was even more expensive).

I asked if the coffee was fresh? The waitress replied "yes it is, made at 8am" the problem being it was 11am at that time. The home fries taste like they were reheated, double dry fried. The Ketsup was old with a vinegar taste. I will never return.

Besides the beautiful ambiance of peace and serenity within the nook I sat as you enter left, the food was amazing. The separation of an open concept and it's like finding a special getaway when you just want to enjoy a delicious meal. My favorite is the selection selection of coffee. I had heard of Jamaican blue mountain being worldly known as #1 but it wasn't until I came here that I was able to say It's definitely the top of my list This is coming from a true Hamiltonian whom is a fanatic of our Canadian Timmies. I am one satisfied customer that can't wait for the opportunity to come back and try something new and refreshing. Great job guy's and gals, keep up up here amazing work.

Had a great breakfast, everything cooked perfectly and just the right amount of food. My one suggestion has nothing to do with the food (which like I said was great) or the people who were friendly and helpful but the place had a slight odour. It could just be from wiping the tables with a cloth not rinsed enough. That kind of smell. Probably just a one time thing, we will definitely return :)

Great breakfast for a great price in the heart of downtown.

The John Street Diner like its ancestor The Jet Cafe is a go to breakfast/lunch go to for me and my family. A dying breed is a "true" diner and this is as good as it gets.
