review date: january 24, 2022 2nd review date: march 27, 2022 customer purchase date: january 24, 2022, march 27, 2022 neighbour shawarma (NS) caught my attention by happenstance, when i was looking at a google review of another shawarma place. 👀 upon looking the reviews, i decided to make a move during a snowstorm. NS is located on upper ottawa b/w mohawk and limeridge. their menu is straightforward - meat offerings are chicken and gyros with rice or on a pita. no beef options. a few salads and a bit of canadian food. upon arrival, the store was clean and bright, nice presentation of LED tv's for the menu, and the 2 staff workers on hand were warm and welcoming. the store became busy after i arrived, yet the workers did a good job of keeping it moving, getting orders punched in and filled out. i picked up a large chicken and rice, and a chicken shawarma pita. all-in was $27.95. do understand that NS has different sized servings for many of their items, to appeal to different needs and budgets. the prices that NS charges are very commensurate with the portion servings, they do give you a lot of food relative to what you are paying. imo the best bang-for-the-buck item is the chicken shawarma pita. the large chicken/rice: -had a bit of a greasy aftertaste but i would buy it again. -chicken provided was a good portion relative to the rice portion. -large size gets you a huge amount; the food is jam-packed in the container. this can easily be split into 2 servings and each split serve would leave you full, if not satisfied. -be advised that toppings (vegetables) are extra charge of 95c. -comes with a large naan bread to ensure there is no doubt you won't be starving after finishing this rice dinner. -rice was fresh and of proper texture. the chicken pita: -was very good. the vegetables tasted as if they just came from the garden. very fresh, and full of flavor. -good amount of chicken provided. -the garlic sauce is fine, not the best but not the worst either. -the seasoned onions and red sauce were excellent. -beautiful naan bread that the store bakes daily. -pita sandwich can get a bit sloppy when eating, so i would advise, not to eat it in a car. every day, NS has a special where they knock off a bit of $$ of the price of the selected item. march 27, 2022: NS continues to do all the wonderful things described from the 1st review. friendly staff, efficient with getting orders taken care of. these folks are not shy with piling on paid additional toppings for chicken and rice meal, which was much better than the 1st visit. the chicken wrap is a fantastic value relative to what you pay and get, and compared to what is available in the market. dialy, fresh baked nann bread, fresh vegetables and good quality chicken...overall, it was a good business decision for me to have come up the mountain to visit NS. 😁 bottom line: the store is out of my way as i live downtown. however on occasion, i would return to NS to purchase their food again. i would recommend NS to others also. the sheer amount of positive reviews are well-earned. they do chicken right. 👍

We ordered the dinner for 3 combo and it's more like dinner for 5. It is such a great deal and the portions are huge. They pack the containers and load you up with sauce. I didn't have to ask for anything extra. One container is a shawarma poutine, the other is the shawarma rice and the third is the salad. All dishes were full of flavor and the meat was tender and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. Great job!!! I'll be back very soon!

Huge portions!! HUGE PORTIONS!! Great service by the ladies working here! Food was tasty, we got the gyro plate, gyro wrap, shawarma plate and a chicken with fries.

First time having the chicken shawarma and rice. Got the small, definitely filling, if I wanted to be greedy I could have gotten the regular. BEST shawarma I've ever had. Chicken was moist and flavorful, the rice was perfect and plenty of delicious white sauce. Highly recommend this place and will go back again and again.
