Review South Sea Restaurant - Hamilton

Had food delivered from here. I have mixed opinions about how to rate it. On the one hand it's definitely better than most Chinese food delivery places, but I was very disappointed in the fried items, shrimp in particular. I feel like the taste was off and suspect that the shrimp may have been a bit past its prime. All of the other food, however, tasted fine. There's great value to ordering the specials for groups which can easily cover the number of people they're for. I would order again but may skip the fried shrimp.

Came with a couple of friends for dinner on a Friday night after shopping on Ottawa St. Service was fast and friendly right upon entering the restaurant. We started with vegetable spring rolls for appetizers. They came out fresh and crispy. We ordered Shrimp ho fun rice noodles, Sweet and Sour Pork, Sesame Chicken, and steamed rice. Portions very big and nicely presented. I would recommend all of the dishes we got as they were flavourful and we loved our meal. Looking forward to returning and trying more of the menu!

We used to hit this place up 30 years ago after drinking at some local bars and the decor is still the same cool old school Chinese themed. I had a combination plate for one which had S.S. chicken balls, lemon chicken, general chicken and rice. It was a lot of food but unfortunately it all tasted the same. The 3 different chicken dishes were all battered and deep fried but different shapes and had three different sauces but pretty much tasted the same. I thought the general chicken would of had some spice to it but it did not. The rice was very dark and didn't really have any taste except for the sauces that was covering it. The service was very good and I will give them another try but something different.

South Sea Restaurant is hands down the best Chinese Food Restaurant in the City of Hamilton. Well established since the early 1980s South Sea take pride in specializing in Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. Tucked away on Ottawa St N between the streets Cambel and Argyle you will find South Sea Restaurant The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable and usually, the period of time people tend to stay is around roughly a hour, though you won't be rushed. You won't be disappointed by choosing South Sea. đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť Ray Perrier Google Local Guide

South sea is NOT accommodating to a picky kid who doesn't like her food touching, I asked her if I order this plate of food; pan fried noodles can you please put the broccoli and chicken on a small plate separately from her noodles? She said no. She will charge me 10.00 extra for both as a separate order. So I said fine. Forget it. My daughter only ate the noodles. The food was very good, but the waitress was not very friendly or nice, I don't think she knew what a smile was. This reminds me of why I DO NOT eat in the Restaurant itself. That and the place is dusty. But like I said, the food was really good.

Very nice food. Everything we ordered was made with decent ingredients and tasted authentic. We were recommended to try here and it didn't disappoint. The only challenge was the crispy tofu. Which by the time we got home wasn't crispy due to the container. There needs to be holes in the lids.

We’ve been visiting and ordering from South Sea Restaurant since we moved back to Hamilton seven years ago. The food is always fresh and delicious. Personally I love their Won Ton soup and their Curry chicken. I don’t recall ever being disappointed with the food or the service. Inside the restaurant is a little bit tired, it probably hasn’t seen any renovations in a few decades but it’s clean and that’s all that matters. I actually find this family run restaurant charming and nostalgic. A refreshing refuge from chain restaurants that have no character and bland food.
