Review Democracy - Hamilton

This place is great, the food and the ambiance. We got ourselves some nachos and burger pizza. All of course are vegan! The table we sat was an open area where we could eat and smell the fresh air. Definitely will come back next time.

Everyone in the office LOVED it! We ordered from DEMOCRACY on Tuesday for lunch. It was one of the Dentist’s birthdays. She eats a vegetarian diet with no eggs, so we wanted to be respectful of that when choosing a takeout restaurant. After a quick GOOGLE search, DEMOCRACY came up amongst the top 10 VEGAN restaurants in Hamilton. We had to feed a staff of 8, some of whom are regular meat eaters. Some of the comments heard after lunch were: “I can’t believe all of that food was vegan!”, “The burger was so delicious - I couldn’t tell it wasn’t meat.”, and “Let’s order from there again next time we have a vegetarian lunch.” We ordered 2 pizzas, 3 boxes of cauliflower wings, 4 burgers, fries, supreme fries, sweet potato fries, chilli, and a box of assorted desert squares. With a small tip, we rounded the total up to an even $200, which seemed to be a reasonable cost for lunch for 8 people with lots of food leftover. It’s very difficult to please a staff of all women with various tastes and opinions, but DEMOCRACY was a true crowd pleaser. We will definitely be ordering again!

First time trying the food here, have tried coffee years ago. Was here August 5. 2021. Ordered the fries and beyond meat burger. Fries were amazing, loved what ever seasoning was placed on top. Burger was juicy and flavourful but the bun was a little over toasted. Tried the deep fried cauliflower and they were good and very large.

Democracy is a planted based restaurant and organic/fair trade cafe offering all day breakfast, lunch and dinner items. There is a diverse menu. I had the soup of the day cauliflower coconut curry puree. It tasted good. I also tried the cauliflower wings with garlic lime dressing and a side of siracha. The planted based burger with sweet potato fries were good as well. I finished off with a matcha latte woth almond milk base. Will definitely return again. Thank you!

I got a kombucha, banh mi sandwich and shared the cauliflower wings to start. All the food was delicious. The cauliflower wings were huge but nice and crunchy! The banh mi is a fun take on the traditional sandwich (I loved the vegan pate). I took a star off because the service was really slow and our starter came out at the same time as our meals. I think the wait wouldn’t have been as noticeable if the starter came out first. The food was delicious though (and I got to enjoy my leftovers the next day, as pictured). I would highly recommend!

I bought food for my brother since he is a vegan. He loved very bite. He definitely recommends this location to everyone.

They have the best breaded fried cauliflower wings. Also they have 4 sauces to die for that accompany this dish. It's all under $20. You get 8 big pieces and it fills you up. Trust me. Hidden gem in Hamilton for vegans.

My first time at this cafe. I live in East end Hamilton and it was worth the drive. Nice big mug of hot tea, roll up door was open and the fresh air was amazing. Enjoyed talking to my friend and playing backgammon

If you want quality vegan food for a good price, this is the place to go. Seriously, any time I have vegan food anywhere else, all I can think is "Democracy does it better and for a better price". You guys raised the bar for what to expect from restaurant vegan food. I've tried everything on the menu and I recommend it to everyone I know. Keep it up, I love this place. �

Being gluten intolerant and allergic to dairy it was amazing to be able to go somewhere that I had so many options. The atmosphere is amazing, kid friendly yet not problematic to those without kids. A great place for a snack or meal anytime of day!

The deserts, the cauliflower wings, The raspberry green tea. I don't go to Hamilton much but this place will be a definite reason I come back. Great service fast and friendly and all the food that was ordered was eaten legit no complaints. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Fabulous vegan birthday dinner. .we tried five different dishes and all were spectacular! Great service and very accommodating with food allergies. Highly recommend.

I love having a place to go where I can have good food that's both vegan and gluten free, and the variety is awesome!

Love this place. The spot to be when on Locke St. Friendly people and a great vegan menu.

Had the grill cheese (v) and a bowl of chili (v) - loved it they were both awesome. Then my tattoo sleeved server sent me to Brain for a couple of very interesting beers (lovely joint and interesting to be a fly on the wall in there).

We've been a couple times now. The cauliflower wings are indeed impressive, but the sandwiches are all made with rock hard thick buns, which leaves much to be desired. The prices are bit over the top to say the least, especially for the quantity. We too are vegan, and always appreciate a comprehensive all-vegan menu, but unfortunately there are better, tastier, and cheaper alternatives. They were not open to making a half portion of a $12 pickle spear appetizer for us either, even though we ordered a lot of other food. (The pickle spears are not good, by the way.) The establishment was also always very, very cold inside, even with a sweater on, which really takes away from the dining experience. As a side note though, our servers were always very sweet, and accommodating.

I went there with a friend who's a regular there, it was my first time at a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. I really liked the chill atmosphere, drawings on the chalk walls and tables but the best part was the food. I ordered the Tempting Tempeh and sweet potatoe thai spice soup. Soup was very tasty but the tempting tempeh was like nothing I've ever tried before. The crispy tempeh with caramelized onions, kale chips with roasted butternut squash and topped with spicy mayo were amazing together. The first bite i took, it was like an explosion of different flavours in my mouth. Loved it. I'll definetly go there again. ��

Paid $13 for a chilli and a three cheese panini. Took 20 minutes to arrive. (My girlfriend finished her taco salad before my food even got there). Came on a wooden board. Chilli was fine. Tastes good. The cheese panini was a disgusting mess. A) taste: 3/5. B) was so greasy and messy. C) had to scoop the cheese from the cutting onto the bread and make my own sandwhich as 70% of the cheese was not in the sandwhich. Wish this meal came with more napkins. Would have been cheaper and far more enjoyable experience to eat elsewhere or stay home and just cook it myself. Not cool. 10/10 would not recommend getting what I ordered. Try the taco salad i guess. It comes fast and is good apparently.

As the only reason to stop in Hamilton, we were excited to check out Democracy as we passed through :P Fun atmosphere, some solid board game choices! I had the perogie pizza, and it was better than expected. The melt on the Daiya cheese was especially impressive. In my limited experience, other establishments have a difficult time getting Daiya cheese to melt right without overcooking their dish. Well done folks, will be back again :)

Not even a vegan....and loveeeee the cauliflower chicken thingies. .lol ....my daughter is and now have a new spot to satisfy us both... Props!!!!!

Extremely poor service and disgusting food. Sent the entree back and was still charged for the appetizer we ate maybe half of (between 3 people because we were hungry). Not to mention, if you have a cashew allergy like I do, avoid this place all together. Ordered an item without any cashew ingredients (according to their menu) and still ended up having a bad allergic reaction from a couple bites of the horrible tasting mac and cheese.

Excellent meal with my wife at Democracy! Love the relaxed atmosphere, solid music and amazing service from our server, Lee. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome and being so attentive!

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere!! Dined with my husband and 6 month old for the first time. Our waitress provided some mashed sweet potato for my daughter as we forgot to pack her baby food. The suggestions offered by our waitress were perfect and the food amazing! We will definitely be coming back soon!
