Family Day dinner - eight of us - what a fab experience! The service, the ambience and the food was delicious! I ordered the pistachios crusted salmon, with garlic mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts enrobed with bacon - it was the most delicious meal I have ever eaten in a restaurant! And of course to top it off I delighted in a creme brûlée - heaven on the palette!
The staff were extremely courteous, especially Karessa (I may have the spelling wrong). Thx you for a wonderful meal!
PS: I had not gone back to The Keg in the last 16 years because of a bad experience, but truly now I regret it & ofcourse will visit more often. Rochelle M.
This is the only KEG restaurant that I have been that is always consistent in the quality of their food and service. Probably the best KEG restaurant I have been to. The staff is always extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. Very well run place!
Our server Jakob was wonderful. I tried the tuna tacos and they were incredible!! One of the best things I’ve ever eaten! Great atmosphere! Will definitely return !
First time at the keg,,,was a little worried as we had picky kids with us,,my youngest loved, loved, loved the mini burgers,,was fantastic food,,,,such friendly helpful staff! Will be back for sure!
Celebrated my 5 year anniversary with the wife tonight and had literally the best experience ever at the Keg.... And we have been multiple times. Our server, Joe, was absolutely incredible. Service doesn't get much better than this!
It was nice to have made a reservation for new years eve, and even better that when we showed up 15 mins early for it we were taken immediately to our table. The only hitch was our server forgot our tables bread until asked about it 5 mins after ordering.
The food is always something we know will be good at the keg. I wish I could remember the name of our server because she was wonderful and made our experience even better. We will be back!
Always a favourite, had the mushroom caps which were amazing. Finished my full rack of ribs in about 3 minutes. Service was friendly, I had just came from my fitness contest with my medal and everyone congratulated me and our waiter brought dessert at the end. Very happy with my experience!
Getting Worse. Going to The Keg in the 80's was a great dining experience. Intimate private like atmosphere, almost really upscale. Like all Keg's this location has great steaks and good service. However the atmosphere really reminds me of an old Swiss Chalet or diner like feel. Constant traffic up and down the aisles that is unavoidably disrupting to dinner conversation. The layout is too "open". This new corporate mandated restaurant layout does not work for me. There are other $$$$ class places I will go to.
UPDATE AUG 2016:
Layout is still not my preference but had to use up a gift card we were given. Had the prime rib. The meat was really below par for a Canadian restaurant. Tasted like American beef which the manager confirmed when he came to our table after the meal to see if we liked our meal. I was honest with him and said it was just average beef to what I have in places like Montreal, Calgary, or South America. The twice baked potato and vegetables were very good though.
Auspicious opening. The Guelph location of this highly regarded Canadian chain opened officially on 09 December 2013, but three days earlier a trio of us had the good fortune to be invited to be part of one of the packed houses invited to subject the new staff to their "trial by fire". Each table is given a fixed menu from the choices on the à la carte menu to ensure that the staff is forced to prepare concurrently a variety of dishes. An "opening team" of Keg employees drawn from established locations are present to ensure that all goes well, to assist as necessary, and to provide tips from their years of experience. Julian, our server, was clearly already well-experienced, demonstrating a casual friendliness combined with professionalism that struck just the right chord. And he and the support staff kept our water glasses filled throughout the meal, an important detail.
As starters, we shared a Caesar salad and a shrimp cocktail. Both were excellent, and the Black Tiger shrimp in the latter were HUGE. Then we moved on to the entrées—a 12 oz. Peppercorn New York steak (New York striploin coated with black peppercorns and creamy peppercorn sauce), an 8 oz. sirloin Oscar (grilled top sirloin topped with shrimp, scallops, asparagus and Béarnaise sauce), and Creole chicken (shrimp and scallops sautéed in Creole seasonings on tender chicken). For dessert, the three of us shared a chocolate and raspberry sorbet.
Everything was absolutely superb. The executive chef of the chain creates an unsurpassed menu, the local kitchen staff under Kitchen Manager Jarod prepare it just as intended, and the serving staff work together as a finely knit team to deliver it to the table efficiently and piping hot.
Did anything go wrong? Well there was the slight matter of a second bread basket that was delivered to our table by mistake by a junior member of the team, but once we had gotten into it :-) we checked with Julian and he quickly found its intended table (the family in the next cubicle) and had a replacement delivered.
The Keg is a consistently high-performing chain, and a good choice for a pleasurable dining experience.
