Review Buon Gusto - Guelph

Diego
Took my wife out for dinner on December 29th just before the lock down, and I have to say we absolutely loved the experience. Everything we ordered was just delicious! I'm a huge fan of the breaded calamari, which if a restaurant offers it I always order it... the calamari they make at Buon Gusto was the tastiest I've ever had. You can definitely tell they have a skilled Chef managing the kitchen. The service was also on point.. the only complaint that we had was that we're we were sitting it was a bit drafty which was by the main window and the entrance. So try to ask to be seated closer to the back, if you come to dine within the winter if that would bother you. Overall 5 stars!

A cool place with great food and nice patio! Dropped by this place on a weekend and it took about half an hour to get seats without reservations. Tried their the most popular pizza and pasta recommended by the staff there. The pizza was pretty good, very rich and tasty! The tomato taste was fresh and impressive. The Linguine Chicken pasta was delicious also! Salad was ordinary. Overall the food is cool and definitely deserves a try!

I came here with a group after a meeting, we are not from Guelph and thought to try it out, we were blown away! Amazing service and food quality and very fairly priced. Our waitress was so sweet. We ordered 2 pizzas and 2 pastas as well as calamari and some coffees and lattes, everything was 10/10

First experience to Buon Gusto , after being referred by our son.. Were very impressed on all fronts. Food was well prepped and of high quality. Pizza was large and could have fed 2 or 3 people. Linguine was cooked very well with lots of seafood. Only complaint was the Calamari in linguine still had membrane on it and had to be pulled off to make edible. Special mention goes to Gillian , our awesome server , who made the experience extra special. šŸ˜€ Highly recommend for your next night out !

A simply wonderful dinner from Buon Gusto's last night. We love this place because the quality of every dish has been exceptional. In house dining or take-out-home, always great. One of our favourite dishes is their SICILIAN GRILLED CHICKEN. It's unbelievably one of the tastiest chicken dishes you'd ever want_chargrilled, marinated with a perfect balance of Italian herbs and nduja butter..it came accompanied with rapini, grilled red peppers and tiny roasted potatoes, all cooked to perfection. The calamari arrabbiata is crispy, tender and spicy, you can never go wrong if 'calamari' is something you enjoy and the charred octopus is another favourite that never fails. For the first time, we tried the Eggplant Parmigiana. I'd give this dish 10 stars if I could...the San Marzano tomatoes and Grana Padano make it one of the best 'eggplant parmigiana you'd ever want. Thank you Buon Gusto's for your attention to serving quality food cooked to perfection.

It was our first time here and we loved it. The vibes, the patio, the serviceā€¦ everything was great. The food was very authentic and that was the best part along with their service. Usually the patio is a far better place to enjoy it but the inside the restaurant is equally as great. Could sit at either locations. 10/10 Would go again

Cosy restaurant with excellent cusine. I was not overly impressed with the drink menu but the dinner options are the main draw in this boutique venue. Highly recommend dinner reservations. The waitstaff is exceptional and I imagine the outdoor patio in the summer is a fantastic place to unwind. Desserts are typical. I enjoyed the cannoli minus the pastachio and chocolate chips, I recommend ordering it neat! Fairly priced and locally sourced ingredients make this restaurant a must when dinning in downtown Guelph. The menu rotates seasonally.

I was extremely disappointed with this place! I ordered what was described as a delicious beet salad but as I was taking my first few bites I discovered a bug ļæ½ crawling around in the lettuce. Yes, they brought me a new salad but I couldnā€™t stomach it after that experience. Plus, they charged me for it!! I found it very expensive and the quality of food wasnā€™t great! Donā€™t waste your money! They obviously donā€™t care if people come back!

Good location especially if you want to sit outside. My experience was absolutely terrible however. There's apparently a dress code for the patio. It seems that men are not allowed to have exposed shoulders. Women can, but men specifically are not allowed. I'm curious to now the reasoning behind this double standard. Women, if you bring a male friend and you're both wearing tank tops, be prepared to leave him on the other side of the patio fence. This is by far the least inclusive place in all of Guelph.

I was impressed from the minute I walked in the door. I had made reservations for my girls birthday and it was like they told everyone and the staff were saying happy birthday to her throughout the night. It made it so personal! Not to mention the food! Drool....wow...so good! Would recommend this place for sure!

Food was amazing service on point excellent, my family and I sat on patio for lunch I would certainly go again and again just to try more foods from their delicious menu! 5āļø'S

Being a bit of a pizza critic from the states, I travel extensively. On my travels I search the country for good pizza of which many raved over pizzas have fell short. Buon Gusto has lived up to it's reputation. This pizza ranks in my top 3 over 25 years of searching.

Consistently great service, great food, great environment. And what a fantastic patio in the summer. One of Guelph's gems. Thanks for all your hard work making every one of our visits special.... especially those of large parties.

We had a wonderful dinner while visiting Guelph. The food was super fresh and tasted amazing. The service was simply what made all the difference for us. Very welcoming and friendly staff. The bar tender even made a special drink for my daughter off the menu and made her evening special. I would definilty go back there again.
Katherine Towriss
Amazing would highly recommend. Great food and staff romantic atmosphere perfect for a date night

The calamari was tender, my salmon was fantastic , my potatoes were pretty heavy with garlic (I left them), my wife's pizza was fantastic. The crust was perfect. Service was second to none, ended with great coffee. Would definitely go back.

Just had one of the nicest dining-out experiences in some time...Excellent food; excellent service...memorable...I don't mind paying if it's fabulous...and this ranks up there...

Consistently good food in a vibrant atmosphere. We have been here many times since they opened and we have never been disappointed, particularly very attentive server last night, bravo.
Thomas Ziegler
The chefs at Buon Gusto last night at Bella Sarata kept up their tradition of inventive and high quality food. We'll see you soon on the patio.

Really good authentic italian food. Pizza definitely cooked right with really fresh ingredients. Really nice ambience, prices are super reasonable and our waitress Bailey was amazing.

69 Wyndham Street N. Guelph, Ontario (across from the Scotiabank) (519)) 265-8766Sun - Thurs 11:30 am - 10:00 pm, Fri - Sat 11:30 - 11:00 pm. Located in the heart of old Guelph, Ontario is an Italian gem,Ā  one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.Ā  It is efficient, friendly and has some of the best pizzas I have ever tasted. A big plus is that it is very reasonably priced for high quality food.Ā  As you enter there is a spacious bar that usually has patrons seated and eating.

I had lunch today at Buon Gusto, which is in downtown Guelph.Ā <br/><br/>I love love love pizza and ordered a D'Abuzzo pizza. Their pizzas are made in a wood-burning oven, hearth-baking them at 900 degrees Fahrenheit for 90 seconds. It was a good pizza. I liked the crust, which is the traditional Neapolitan thin-crust style ... it was soft and chewy. The cheese was creamy. The salami was salty. There was a lot of tomato ... good thing I like tomatoes! I'd get it again.<br/><br/>Louisa was my server. She was friendly and took good care of me.

Everything was good. The staff were friendly, professional and warm. The atmosphere was energized and attractive plus there was always people waiting for tables. The food was fresh, delicious and creative. We will return when in Guelph

Never disappointed with this place. Quality of ingredients is excellent. Hard to find parking so go early to give yourself time. Reservations recommended. It gets very busy. Love their outdoor summer patio. Good selection on their drink menu and service is great! Always take visitors here.
Sue
We were very happy with the food and service! Then the hostess came at 7:50 to tell us that we had to leave by 8 because our table is booked! We were happily enjoying the potential dessert menu only to be told to prepare to leave.
Amy
Great location, nicely decorated, comfy seating, food was amazing! I would suggest making reservations - we were a table of two and just barely got in. Parking is also hard to find downtown. We each ordered a pizza and couldn't finish! If you order appetizers, consider sharing a pizza (and save room for dessert). The food isn't very cheap but considering the quality, presentation and overall vibe, I found the prices to be fair.

Great - Caciocavallo in Padella<br/>Good- Arugula Ć© Prosciutto<br/>Great - cappuccino and tiramisu <br/><br/>I never usually go out for Italian for dinner but I really enjoyed this place. It was very busy and the staff was really nice. I highly recommend the Caciocavallo in Padella appetizer. The cheese and the peppers were done perfectly. The pizza was also pretty good and very filling. The tiramisu was very good as well. I split these dishes with a friend and it was the perfect amount of food.

Big hype, not impressed. Went there last night with my wife and oldest son. We found the pizzas we tried didn't hold up to mouth watering descriptions. Also had a seafood pasta, again quite boring. It was noisy, could use some type of acoustic baffling. Service was okay.
Steve
Great place. We enjoyed an excellent meal the other day and highly recommend this popular pizza and Italian resto. right in the middle of downtown, this cozy upscale p[lace has something for everyone.<br/> Try the pizza or the pasta, you won't be dissapointed!

Fantastic start to end. Had the pleasure of eating with an equally hungry friend, tried multiple apps, drinks, pizza and desserts. Everything was delicious and our server, Anna, was friendly, totally accommodating, made terrific suggestions and helped translate the menu.<br/><br/>I can't stress enough - save room for dessert the panna cotta and tiramisu are delicious.

Dreadful customer service. Here are some words that describe the individuals who work at this restaurant: unaccomadating, pompous, judgemental, unhappy.<br/><br/>Same goes for management. <br/><br/>I would rather eat dirt then go back to Buon Gusto and be treated like said dirt. Apparently those working there feel as though they are much better then those coming to eat there. Learn some customer service skills.

Bad service, bad food, overpriced. Possibly the worst pizza I have ever had--the crust was burnt in places, raw in other places, and so flimsy and greasy it was impossible to pick up. The calamari was inedible--it was so overcooked it was like eating rubber. The wait staff were very rude. Dinner for 2 (2 personal pizzas, 2 cocktails and one order of calamari) was almost $100 and I have had better pizza at crappy takeout places. I wouldn't eat there again for free.
Billsample
Disappointing. Great atmosphere and good service. We ordered the pasta carbonara and the boscaiola pizza. The carbonara was very bland outside of the strong salty taste. The pizza was sadly lacking in pancetta and the house-made sausage, basically a good pizza crust with caramelized onions, a smattering of cheese although soggy in the middle. Very disappointing for a restaurant which would seem to have so much promise.

Great food, backwards thinking and horrible customer service. This past Friday, a friend and I dined on the Buon Gusto patio for lunch. About halfway through our lunch, just as our food had come out, the manager approached me and informed me that the restaurant has a ā€œno-tank-top policyā€ and to please put my cardigan on. My shirt was a high end, high-necked tank top that was absolutely acceptable to wear in public and at a restaurant; however, a dress code is a dress code and I put my cardigan back on with no hesitation. Rules are rules. My friend and I then began to observe the other dining guests around us. There was a couple sitting next to us. The woman was wearing a tank top, very similarly cut to the one I was wearing and the man was wearing a baseball hat and also had his sandals off and his bare feet on the spokes of the table ā€“ a clear violation of the Health Code. There was a table of four women sitting on the patio as well, three of whom were also wearing tank tops. To make the problem clear, I am a man. We expressed our concerns to our waiter, who was indeed apologetic, and then we asked to speak with the manager. Almost twenty minutes later, the manager came back out and said ā€œI heard someone is upset over hereā€. I expressed that I have no issue following a dress code; however, a dress code must apply to all patrons of the restaurant, regardless of gender, and not just one. The health code must apply to all patrons as well. This is a perpetuation of gender inequality and discrimination. He responded that ā€œit is different for a man than it is for a womanā€. There is absolutely no difference here and we must treat everyone equally, if we are to move forward and bring about peace in our society. This is especially prevalent in a city such as Guelph, where both men and women are free to be shirtless in public. He condescendingly said ā€œwell, I appreciate your commentsā€, shrugged his shoulders, and walked back inside. Not only was he responsible for discrimination, but he also failed to carry out his duties as manager and ensure that all customers are happy and left with a positive experience. When we went in to pay, my friend reminded him that the man still had his shoes off and nothing had been said to him and he once again shrugged his shoulders and ignored the situation.

Excellent Food. Ate here twice, child friendly, fresh tasty food. Great wine list. Delicious!

Poor Quality Server. I visited Buon Gusto last evening. I am a fairly regular customer. I brought some new friends to the restaurant. I was so embarrassed because I expected a good experience and received very poor service from our server. The food was fine, that wasn't the issue. The restaurant was above 50% full. Our food took over an hour to come. We were a party of five adults, all pasta dishes. We had one person order a salad appetizer. After the salad came, the rest of the food took at least 50 minutes to come. We politely asked the wait staff if there was a problem after about 40 minutes. The server blamed it on the fact that one us ordered a salad. No apology, she just walked away. She also removed all the bread from the table while we were waiting for our food, never came back to ask us if we needed more drinks. We ended very quickly eating and leaving because everyone had somewhere to go. There were mistakes on the bill (drinks we didn't order), again no apology. I live in the city and regularly come to this restaurant but I know the people I was with will unlikely return.

Good Food. I have visited here a few times now and have received consistently good food. I have made reservations once and was a walk in two other times. The only time you won't have to wait long if you don't make a reservation is if you arrive around 6ish - any later and you will be waiting an hour or so. The wine selection is great but the cocktails could use some help. One of my female friends I was with ordered the Bellini and it did not taste at all like it should have. Service can be a bit slow on busy nights but the waitstaff are polite. If you don't mind waiting a little while for your food it is worth it. The pizza here is great when comparing it to others around Guelph, but when comparing it to some I've had in Toronto or Italy it is good - but not great. The soups and the pork belly I have found to be amazing and very flavorful. I would recommend this place if you are planning on going out for a nice dinner and some wine - but not if you are in a rush.

I have had some great apps here, the pasta is pricey and most of it is boxed not fresh

A real European experience. Fantastic restaurant, the flavours are true and bright, and the food spectacular. We love coming here, especially when we get nostalgic for real Italian pizza.

I have only been once. Overall a positive experience. Had their pork belly as an app, which was amazing. Gf had calamari which we both thought was very good too. Generously portioned to boot. For entrees I had pizza, which I found only 'ok'. The ingredients I would've like emphasized, the pancetta especially, was barely present. Others at my table were not hugely impressed with the entrees. Okay, but did not meet expectations. Dessert was ok, again, not impressive in any particular way. The service was excellent throughout. Wine selection had us happy. Quite loud in the restaurant, decor was alright. Wine rack was particularly nice, bar design didn't make much sense to us visually though. I would like to return for a later night/quieter service, two apps, and sharing a [different] pizza and a bottle of wine would likely be perfect.

If you're thinking of coming here, be sure to definitely make a reservation. My group of 3 didn't on a Wednesday night and had to wait almost 2 hours to be seated. Hostess didn't seem apologetic and there's no space to sit and wait. Finally got our pizza and it was okay. Too much arugula on the one and not enough sausage on the other. Don't think I will be back here again.

Complete Disappointment!. Dropped in recently after being drawn in by the exterior of the building and the now open sign. Our waitress greeted us and filled up our glasses with water. The bottle that the water was served in looked dirty and unattractive. We opted for another beverage and pushed the dirty looking bottle aside. We ordered an app and a pizza which was outlined in the menu as cooked in 90 seconds. We asked the waitress not to course our app and pizza as we were hungry and would like it quickly. We noticed while eating our app that everyone else has been served bread except for us. We had to waive the waitress down and ask for bread. After being at the restaurant for 40 minutes are waitress and pizza where nowhere to be found. Again we waived her down asking what the holdup was. It was like she was trying to avoid us and continued to make excuse with no apology for the long wait. Pizza finally arrived and was disappointing as it lacked flavor. When we asked for the bill the waitress slapped a bill on the table, said nothing and walked away.<br/><br/>Spending so much time waiting for our food we had lots of time to look around. For a new restaurant it was not very clean. Light fixtures where dirty and bathrooms looked like they had not been cleaned in a while.<br/><br/>Overall our experience was not great and we will not be recommending it to anyone.

Buon Gusto has great Pizza!. I was pleased with the pizza my wife and I ate last evening. Unfortunately the service left a little something to be desired. The hostess was rude when we first walked in. She came by later to our the wine and she was rushing through it so much that she spilled some and didn't even acknowledge it... she seemed very frazzled and an amateur not a seasoned front dining manager. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. I will go back for the pizza which is great and comparable to some of the best in Toronto but I hope that the service will improve.

From the decor, service and menu- you can tell nothing was left to chance. It has the quality of a great local restaurant. The Mushroom & Gorgonzola Crostini and Crispy Pork Belly are fantastic. The pizza is great because the crust have just the right amount of mouth feel- not too chewy. The sauce is fresh, the topping is artisanal. I had the <br/>Boscaiola pizza (house made sausage, pancetta) which definitely should qualify for authentic Neapolitan. The slightly charred crispy crust is a hallmark sign of being made in a 900degF wood buring oven. The Tagliatelle Al Pomodoro with meatball hit the spot- classic tomatoes sauce that celebrity Chef Scott Conant would be proud to eat. Great food value for the price- worth a visit...or ten!

Buongusto! Not so good. Flavourless, rubbery fried calamari cooked in heavy cheap oil, served with a thin useless slice of lemon. The tomato, basil spicy sauce is bland and not spicy. No salt or pepper on the table. Think again.<br/><br/>Pizza has a decent crust, but the ingredients do not deliver, very confused combination of ingredients especially the Boscaiola Pizza topped with a balsamic glaze that gives the pizza a sweet and disappointing finish. Where are the promised porcini mushrooms on this pizza and why I am paying 17$ ?<br/><br/>Who ever wrote that he ate the best pizza since Naples does not know what he is talking about or perhaps he should frequent other pizzerias in Toronto (Terroni, Libretto, Pizza Pazzi etc...)<br/><br/>The espresso is one of the worst I have had. Arrives cold with no crema on top, no sugar nor spoon. A very bad finish to a meal.<br/><br/>Owner jumps on the chairs with his shoes to adjust all light fixtures while customers still eating. Other customers are puttign on sock and boots after removing their flip flops. Very classy.<br/><br/>Buon Gusto? I say ...not quite good taste!.
Scott
One of the best pizza's I've had since my last trip to Naples!! Service was top notch and the restaurant's atmosphere & staff very friendly. Will be back for sure!
