Different from some other Gimli places as their pickerel burger has tarter rather than mayo and pickles. They had curry mayo rather than Tzatziki dip for the onion rings. Everything was tasty. Would return.
Cute little place downtown Gimli. They have a few choices of fish and chips. Portions were good and the food was good. Not sure if I would make the drive just for the fish and chips, but would eat there again.
You can't go wrong with this place. Their fish and chips are always consistent in flavour and portion. Always busy with line up during lunch especially at this time of year. I always make it a point to grab something to eat at this place when in Gimli.
Fantastic all you can eat fish and chips. The salad is delish as well! Shame we drove all the way out to Gimli to find out they close at 5pm on a Sunday! Not impressed! Seeing as Zomato says its currently open! What a shame!
Ordered the cheese burger and fries. They were very good, very tasty. Only gave them a 3.5 because the one complaint I have is that the meat in the burger seemed very small. The bun was a lot bigger than the meat. If the meat was as big as their competitors I would have given them a higher rating.
Love this place! crazy busy always and always good service. so many options on the menu its hard to chose just one thing. My favorutie burger in gimli are from there! i can always tell theyre homemade by how juicey they are. the owner always pays a visit when hes out and it makes the visit even better. Great prices and great icecream. i hope everyone enjoys this place as much as i do.
Stopped by Gimli for lunch a few weeks ago and tried out kris' fish and chips based on reviews and my craving for fish and chips. I've tried a lot of Winnipeg fish and chip joints and I would put this place on the top 3 for fish and chips based on quality for pricing. Crispy batter and fresh pickerel, with a variety of other choices (shrimp, halibut, etc.)
About 7-10 tables(?) that seat either 1 or 2 so not too large of a place, but does the job.
Pay first and they bring fish n other goods to your table later. Great food for a good price!

Stopped in for lunch with my husband. I had to try the "famous" pickerel they serve, so I opted for the pickerel and shrimp platter. I chose to try the pickerel battered and the shrimps butterfly. They were served with fries, tartar sauce, seafood sauce and a lemon wedge. My husband had the pickerel with fries.
The service was...interesting. The girl behind the counter took my order and wrote it down. Then she asked again what I would like, and I told her a second time and she wrote more stuff down. Then she asked a third time and I was wondering what exactly she was writing down. Maybe it was the name of the boy she liked over and over or who the hell knows. After she asked the third time my husband shot me a WTF look.
The pickerel was decent, but greasy. As soon as I started eating I could understand why they have all you can eat pickerel for 9.95. It is so greasy that 3/4 of the way through your first piece your body starts telling you it's full - and it's not. It's only telling you it's full so you'll stop cramming grease into it and the abuse will stop.
The shrimp were not so saturated so they were easier to eat. Fries were nothing special.
If you are a fan of fried, fatty foods you will love this place. I'm glad I tried it to satisfy my curiosity, but the next time I want pickerel I will buy some fresh in Gimli and make it myself.

Great pickerel. This place seemed to be the most popular restaurant on the main drag. I really wanted some fish 'n chips so this seemed to be the place. You place your order, pay and then they bring the food to you.
Their specialty is the fish n' chips are available in medium $9.95 and large size $13.95 with the choice of pickerel, cod, or haddock. The halibut option is $18.95 and pickerel cheeks are also available but only when they are in season, which they were not over the labour day weekend. I opted for pickerel and there was a choice of pan seared or crispy battered. I chose the traditional crispy batter which was really light and not too greasy. The pickerel was fresh and delicious with the lemon that came with it. I didn't mind the tartar but I find that the sauce tends to overwhelm the taste of the fish. The fries were disappointing as they were super limp and kinda soggy.
The cheeseburger was ok - nothing great just your typical burger. The chocolate sundae with nuts was $3.95 for a small and was disappointing as well since the soft serve was very bland - very thick texture but not enough taste for me. But their milkshake was outstanding - asked for a peanut butter and chocolate mixture and they made it for us since they had warm PB available. Oh my was that milk shake good.
There's lots of seating inside and outside which wraps around the exterior of the restaurant but it's a bit cramped outside. also, there were lots of flies around which didn't make for the most enjoyable experience.
But otherwise, service was really friendly and food was served up fairly prompt on such a busy day. I'd definitely go back for the fish and chips.

Fresh fish at its best. Kris' made a fish lover out of a fish hater with its heaping baskets of golden pickerel. At first bite, you get the crispy goodness of the light, beer batter-style coating and then the fish fillet literally melts in your mouth with its soft, buttery texture. Sooooo good. The homestyle cut fries are delicious too but come a distant second to the five-star pickerel that steals the show.
Best Fish Joint. If you want fish it is the place to go. i love the feel of the place always excellent service. By far my favorite fish and chip joint in Gimli.

I drive all the way from the maples in Winnipeg, MB to this place cuz there ain't nuthin here like it. Joeys just can't keep up.
Did I mention I come here once a week? Through 4 seasons, keep it up guys :)
A real Local stand. I've went and loved this place. The staff was very friendly, a great wide selection of fish. Very relaxed atmosphere on the patio. A great place for that fried treat. No wonder they have a flawless like rating.

Best Pickerel in Gimli!. When in season, Kris' serves fresh pickerel with options of pan fried or light batter preparation. The size options for fish and chips are medium or large, and it's worthwhile to ask the staff how many pieces of fish you'll be getting with either option, as it varies depending on the size of fresh pickerel they've gotten in that day. The light batter is truly light and crisp, allowing the mild and tasty flavour of the fish to come through, so I recommend that option. The pickerel is soft, tender and almost buttery in texture. Other restaurants along Gimli's main drag sometimes over-cook the fish, but this hasn't been a problem for me at multiple visits to Kris'.
One great option is the pickerel burger, which is a generously sized fillet (usually twice the width of the bun) available pan fried or in crisp batter along with tomato, lettuce raw red onion and mayonnaise. Tartar sauce is included on the side as well. This is a very delicious option; however on each of my visits the amount of red onion included was excessive and overpowered the delicate taste of the pickerel so I just picked it off.
Fries at Kris' are fresh and thick cut. Very tender potato-y goodness inside and crisp outside served in a generous portion size.
The staff have been friendly and helpful upon multiple visits.
The ambiance inside is a clean and simple - it's your standard family restaurant with plain tables and chairs, with some historic pictures on the walls. The small outside patio is the best option if weather and space permits, as you get a great view of the coming's and goings of the pleasant lake life along Gimli's main drag.
