Reviews The 101 Brewhouse + Distillery

Six of us were able to get in to the first night for the 101. And we were glad we didn’t miss it. My flight selection include the Outboard Motor Oatmeal Porter (an acknowledgement to the former automotive shop which previously occupied the space), Mahan Trail Blonde Ale, Tall Faller IPA and the Raspberry Wheat. The blonde ale was the consensus winner followed by my favourite, the Raspberry Wheat. There is a smoothness to all of these, none of which are dominated by hops, which tends to be an unnecessary signature of many small breweries. The food is distinctive and, well, fabulous. Appetizers included the Hush littles (a corn fritter) which bended well with the side of in-house pickles — sides of pickled sliced fennel, tomatillos and watermelon. Yes — watermelon. Around the table we had the 101 burger, halibut ceviche and Hot or Not chicken sandwich — all seven with ultra thin, ultra crisp and ultra good yucca fries. As well, both the Halibut and Brisket tacos were superb. The Three Sisters Gringa, a vegetarian dish, was gobbled up by one of the meat eaters and given a thumbs up. When Bob’s Automotive shut down recently after Bob Small retired, I was wondering what kind of business could thrive in the rather stark looking building. I couldn’t have guessed (or hoped for!) a brewery/distillery with such a wonderful kitchen and lineup of on the premises beverages would be the outcome. My daughter declared the 101 her new favourite restaurant on Coast. If 101 can achieve this , and on opening day, I’m sure it will find the citizens of the Coast will flock to it for the beverages, the food and the wonderful atmosphere. Great new hangout for locals and visitors. But don’t be surprised if it’s busy. It deserves it.

I have to say it is a fresh and exciting addition to Gibsons. The room is extremely appealing and functional for an intimate meeting or a large social get together. The menu is quite unique in its offerings and the portions are of a healthy proportion. Our waitress was friendly and the service was spectacular. Happy to recommend this gem to all my friends.

We were staying overnight in Gibson's and this seemed like the best choice. I think we were right. My wife had the crispy cod pieces and I had the fish tacos. Both were very good. Server was both gracious and eager to hear our suggestions on how to improve the coleslaw - needed some acid like vinegar and lemon. Vibe was a split between a locals bar and a staff party. Everybody seemed welcome to play their own favorite tunes on the sound system. Menu was reduced but server apologized and explained that they were training up new kitchen staff.

Definitely a must stop if visiting the Sunshine Coast. Enjoy a flight before getting your growlers filled. Location is great, easy to get to from highway if driving back from Sechelt on way to ferry or if you just want to come in to quench your thirst. Lots of great tasting beers and cocktails available. The new outdoor patio is perfect for outdoor music shows so check website or social media for upcoming events!

This place is amazing. The service was the first element to blow is away. The lovely team behind the bar made us feel so appreciated. My better half and I say on the patio, under the tent for a couple hours, as the rain fell around us and the fire kept us cozy. The beers are delicious. We especially liked the blonde ale. We also enjoyed the food truck (Salt and Swine) which is available from Wednesday to Sunday. Great food. Get the corn. 101 also serves up delicious coffee made by local Beachcomber Cafe
