Review Holiday Inn Plaza La Chaudiere - Gatineau

The hotel is clean, modern, and nicely situated. The grounds are lovely and include a patio/garden area outside. The room is larger than I thought it would be but otherwise just as expected. It is nicely furnished and provides all promised amenities. The service is bilingual, helpful, and accommodating — although some staff members seem to struggle slightly with questions asked in English. My gluten-free sandwiches were delicious.

This is a really good property! The location is great to Ottawa but at the same time it gets you away from all the busyness of the city. The staff is great I gave them a bit of a hard time about parking and they had all the patience in the world. When I realized I was wrong I apologize profusely but they were very good about it. The rooms are very clean and cozy. I loved this property and slept great

Nice welcoming lobby with a beautiful fountain/garden display. Took very long to check in as there was only one desk worker. Beds were more on the firm side which is alright, I slept pretty well and that's the most important part to me. The beds seemed a bit old and we're very squeaky, just getting in and out of them sounded comical. Overall not too bad.

To be honest, the rooms are affordable but just okay. On the other hand, the service is great. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The best feature here is probably the pool, whirlpool, sauna and mini gym. Everything is functional and we'll maintained. The yearly membership works out to about fifty bucks a month. Had such a relaxing time.

The view from my room was fantastic. It was a spacious, comfortable suite. I booked it partly for the kitchenette, and was disappointed that nothing was provided in that kitchenette. No dishes, cutlery or glassware. This defeated the purpose of having a kitchen. The hotel is very convenient for using the transit system.

Hotel is very clean and well kept. Rooms are well maintained and clean Bathrooms. Parking is not free though and is managed by a third party company but has internal access to the parking levels from the lobby. Higher floor will have a good view but other than the dam on Lake Ontario, there's not much to view.

The Hotel and staff are very nice. The rooms are great and clean. The restaurant is providing customized buffets, which is very gracious and appreciated, but the tone and attitude are frustrating to deal with. Most of these people have lost their home and belongings and they are exhausted as they are working and traveling to their homes every evening. Therefore, they should not be avoiding the restaurant that the Red-Cross is paying to feed them. Not all staff at the restaurant are this way, but being treated or segregated from the regular customers does not feel very welcoming. There are no options to order food from a menu or to your room or prepare for work lunches. When a gentleman working the night shift asked for supper food he was given a takeout container and directed to the soup and salad bar. The other hotels let you order food and charge it to the room, reconciling the bill at the end of your stay.

We enjoyed the view, and the location of the hotel so close to the water. We brought our dog with us for a weekend visit, and everyone was very accommodating. The pool, whirlpool and sauna were very impressive, and the lifeguard on duty was attentive and polite. The gym was absolutely wonderful, with modern equipment, and kept immaculately clean. We were a little disappointed with the condition of our window in the room. It had damage either from sunlight or moisture, so the glass was permanently foggy. But apart from that, our room was large, and well kept. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Great Staff. We were initially checked into a room that perhaps was a bit overlooked by room cleaning - there was hair in the tub and bed and the previous Guest's meal was still in fridge. But the front desk took immediate action as we reported. They apologized profusely, then changed our room immediately.

It’s the food at the restaurant that’s worthy of this review. I was just hungry and needed something easy and then was totally surprised (expecting yet another hotel restaurant) that the buffet had the most incredible bbq chicken. So I went back the next night too and both the salmon and the stew were fabulous. It wasn’t restaurant food—way better...home cooked. Somebody really cares about how this food tastes. The service matched—friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.

This could easily be a 5-star property with some improvements. The lobby is impressive enough, the staff is cordial, bilingual of course, and helpful. The amenities such as the pool, exercise room, and Business Center are fine. The business center could use a stapler. It actually has a pencil sharpener. Does anyone use pencils any more? The most disappointing thing about it is the restaurant. The service, especially in the evening, is fine, the prices are not bad, but the menu is severely, and I do mean severely limited! A couple of salads, burgers and one steak dish. Apparently bottled water to go has not been heard of either. Oh, and no matter how few people are in the dining room, and they're usually are very few for dinner especially, at breakfast don't try to sit two people at a table for 4! You will be told to move to another table. Kind of silly but I guess that is policy. The room was fine, containing a safe, refrigerator, a microwave, a flat screen TV and a sofa. The king size bed was comfortable and there were plenty of electrical outlets. The room lighting, especially in the bathroom, could be improved. If one shaves with a blade the lighting in the bathroom is definitely inadequate! Everything was neat and clean. The room HVAC system was one of the quietest I have encountered in quite some time. There is a charge for underground parking which is okay, but the spaces in the building itself are really narrow. Nice enough place

The renovations are excellent - the hotel is much nicer, and all around a very comfortable, pleasant stay! If you were there before the renovations, give it another try - you won't be disappointed! Only issue - as a Platinum Elite member, when the frond desk said they were giving me an upgrade, I was surprised to find out that my upgraded room was the same as my non-member colleague who had booked the exact same initial room-type as I had.
