Review The Hilltop Maritime Tavern - Fredericton

I read some reviews saying it is a gem and I was curious. It really doesn't disappoint! From the ambiance, the service and the food, everything was really great! I definitely recommend to stop by!

Amazing food and beverage! This place has a long history of fun local events, music, dancing, and a gathering place for every age. University students used to love Tuesdays!

Had two burgers, holy smoke and phily. The burger bun was fresh, good sauce. The french fries were crispy and fresh. However, the beef was not juicy at all. It was pink inside, so I guess it was old meat. The service was not fast enough also.

We were not made aware that the fries were being charged additionally. The portion for the lobster roll was small, not worth the money. The burgers were good and had interesting flavours.

I came to Fredericton for the first time and am glad I was able to try this gem! Great atmosphere and delicious food. Best part of the entire experience was great service from Kevin. He was extremely friendly and checked back on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed.

Always a delicious meal and service with a smile at the Hilltop. The elevator allows for easy access to those requiring that form of assistance. Large , comfy booths offer a relaxed setting. We eat here often and love the variety of selections .
bruh
service was good, fried ice cream was not very good.. the frying machine was probably not warm enough. loved the staff. great food. 4/5

We ate lunch here today, and everything was spot-on. The food was great, the service was on-point. When I mentioned how we had been disappointed in the past (a few years back), our server mentioned the latest head chef and management change had been for the better (about 2 years ago). The Hilltop is doing it right! We’ll be around more often

Went there for a late breakfast on Sunday. The eggs were not cooked over medium as I asked and to the waitress' credit she did have them done again. However the second time they were less cooked than the first . After that the waitress did not come by to ask anything until she asked if we were all set. Usually when I go to a restaurant for breakfast a coffee refill is offered. I left most of my eggs on the plate. I declined the homefries but got an upgraded GF toast for $1 extra. Basically I ate toast, bacon and picked at pieces of egg white for $10. I left very disappointed with the food and the customer service.

Loved it!! The food and service was top notch! I love the gluten free hamburg bun....it's a real treat to find a great place to eat when you have food allergies.

Really enjoyed the food. We have been to the place more then a handful of times. The menu has been different a few times we went. My only complaint is we ordered 3 apps. As it was app night missed it by 10min. Wish the waitress would have said something as we were ordering would have waited the 10 min to order. She come out after to tell us we could not get the half price apps. Told us we could just cancel our app order but not our food order and we would get the food first apps later, didn't want the apps after, In the end the food come out within minutes of our apps anyway. Food was good.

While in Fredericton today we stopped into the Hilltop for a late lunch. The food was delicious...Lobster Roll with Caesar Salad and Prime Rib French Dip Sandwich with Fries!!! We also enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, the music and the wonderful service we received from Melody!!!

I was not impressed that I couldn't get the reaper wings as advertised on their menu, it's not like it's a seasonal fish or seafood and the inferno wings I had to settle for were between médium and hot.

Great food and beer . Friendly staff. Great place for a get together.

We had our 25th wedding anniversary dinner at the Hilltop this week and were not disappointed! Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful. The food came fairly quickly and it was phenomenal!!! We will definitely be coming back. You continue to live up to that great reputation, of serving the best steak in the city

Service was awesome. I can't remember our waitress name. But she was young, blonde and had her hair in a french braid. Excellent waitress.

Horrible experience. Ordered online and the steak arrived without the garlic bread. Called them and one of the guys said he'd drop it off at my house after his shift was over in about 20 min and never showed up. I couldn't care less about the bread but was really disappointed in how they handle an order. The attitude of their employee was irritating as well.

Ordered a chicken caesar salad with a glass of water. There was probably about 2 handfuls of lettuce with 8 small slices of chicken in a small bowl for the outrageous price of $16.08! Not impressed one bit!

Love love love the Mayan burger! The fries are also to die for! This is one of my all time favourite restaurants. The staff is also super friendly.

It's good depending on what you're looking for. I go there for there for their kung pao chicken, oddly enough. I tried their steak last time and it was bland. I never add salt to my food, ever, and I added salt to it. Their sweet potato fries are good, as is the aioli they come with. I've always found the servers to be pretty friendly. Again, I go for the kung pao chicken... and I love it.

Obviously Hilltop has come under new management and not necessarily a good thing. They have lights turned off and the heat turned down. The clams use to be whole but are now strips. Fries at least appeared to be fresh cut and not out of the local fast mass produced kind. The kitchen staff is down to half, there is new bar keep and the prices are up. Yes I was a longstanding (30 plus) customer. The food still tastes good, but they are now going with lower quality. The wait staff as always are personable and friendly. I guess I just feel sorry for them that the cheapness of the new management is affecting the quality of the atmosphere. I had to eat my meal with a jacket on. Like all the other patrons. Shame because the Hilltop was starting to make a comeback and considered an eating institution. By the way, you are a Pub. NOT a steakhouse in the memories of the loyal patrons.

I went there twice; I was not impressed at all by the service. The first time I asked for a steak rare and I got a steak heavilly cooked. I told the waitress and she changed it. The steak was good . The second time I got some chicken, I do not like pepper so I ask if I could have it without pepper. She said yes but when she brought the plate it was full of pepper. The service was very slow and awfull.

Terrible Pepper Steak Stir Fry and gross Chicken Burger. Lots of swearing from other patrons and tacky decor. I feel sorry for the Frederictonians who have to eat from this trough.

Never again.. I'm not often moved to write a review, unless I had a stellar or dreadful experience. The Hilltop rests firmly in the dreadful column. This is the kind of place you'd enjoy if you're into bland, tasteless food (the "garlic" shrimp was cold and the coleslaw was warm!) and you're the sort of person who finds having to repeatedly ask your server for something enjoyable. I'm not, and I finally went and hunted down my own fork, while my companions dined. The food was awful (how DO you suck every bit of flavour out of a prime rib steak before you serve it anyhow?).
Our server handed out the food and never returned to the table until we waved her down and asked for the cheque.
The food was horrible, horrible horrible.
How is this place still open?

Kind of disappointed. Our waitress didn't seem to really want to be there. Not friendly at all. Food was...meh. We ordered the nachos and there were huge quantities of plastic (processed) cheese and thousand island dressing. Won't be going back there again.

So So Steak!!. I have eaten here twice in the last 3 weeks. The Steak was ok nothing special and the fries were plain. This used to be the place to go on the weekends. Now the parking lot is usually empty! There are still a lot of worse places to eat in Fredericton then here. The prices are getting a little expensive for the quality. My friend enjoyed her meals here, she had the clubhouse which looked great. I would still go back here!

They have some solid deals. Their breakfast specials would be unbeatable if it weren't for the awful hash browns (actually dollar fries)
Ev
The best rib steak in NB. Always good food and a friendly staff.
Price
That's it?!. You have to pay for refills on any drink (pop, ice tea, etc) you get! If you order a drink without ice, hoping to actually to get a decent size beverage, they actually put it in a smaller glass! Seriously! For what they charge for the food, they can handle free refills. If it were more upscale I might understand, but with other pub style restaurants in the city, that serve very similar dishes with better prices, I've had no reason to return.

Breakfast/brunch is better. They typically do a nice eggs benny and their different breakfast plates are good. I can't recall their prices exactly, but I believe they were pretty reasonable. The one note I'd like to attach is that I have fond memories of the nachos here from when we passed through once in my childhood, and have been told that the nachos are still great. I've yet to try them in recent memory, but I'll update if I do. Overall, you could come to the Hilltop for a nice atmosphere, and super friendly service, in a bit of a Freddy institution. I would recommend that, if you do, you come for breakfast/brunch (and be prepared for a line!) since it's squarely better than lunch. If you do come for lunch, you might try the nachos; if you find something else good, please send me a message
