Review Shan Shan Bakery - Edmonton

I've been here a few times now & it's my favourite bakery in Chinatown. Grab & tray & load it up! The savoury buns are VERY tasty (try the BBQ pork pun, and the pineapple bun, and the curry bun) Pastries are excellent too. And my friend raved about the tarts. It's cozy, it's local. Bring cash, it's worth it. Fill up a big box or 2 & be the star of the party at your next gathering or picnic in the park or brewery visit.

Delicious pastries, affordable prices! My favorite are the Napoleons, Pineapple Buns, and any of the savory meat filled pastries are a hit. Friendly staff. Don’t forget to bring cash!

This shop is run by a cute older gentleman who accepts e-transfer 🥺 Tasty buns, typical selection and prices for a Chinese bakery. Self-service, cash and e-transfer accepted.

The steamed BBQ pork bun there is the best in town. Better than those in the dim sum restaurants.

Great Chinese Bakery! Love their self service setup. You grab a tray and tongs and then make your way through the bakery. Lots of selection including Sweet Buns. Their Coconut Cream Bun is great. Once you are done head to the cashier to pay. Note they are cash only! Bring cash as they do not accept anything else. Happy Eating!

My friend had told me about this bakery in Chinatown and to be honest, she told me about two bakeries. This one is close to Yellowbird and I had picked up a selection of goodies to try. They only take cash- but will also do e transfer- useful to know! The Glutinous rice dumping is chockful of goodies ( meat, Chinese sausage and salted egg yolk) and tasty. The buns were priced reasonably and savoury. Definitely coming back here when l am in town.

I love this bakery. The staff are amazing and the baked goods bring a warmth to my heart because it reminds me of my mom’s desserts. The sticky rice in banana leaf is so delicious too. Everything they make is worth a try.

One of the best Hong Kong bakeries in Edmonton! Always worth it to stop by and pick up some fresh baked goods that warm my soul. The owners are really friendly and the buns are so reasonably priced. Love love love it here.

Good food with good service. The owner always polietly says hello to greet customers and will always say thank you after your purchase. There is a great variety of HK-style baked goodies and tastes best purchased earlier in the day. It is fulfilling to eat yummy buns that are still nice and warm out of the oven! After Sweetheart bakery in the North Side closed down, Shan Shan Bakery is my go-to place.

I was thinking about my mom and how she bought this stuff when I was a kid growing up but now it's my turn to buy these goods for my mom

I generally goto garden bakery or Hong Kong bakery but i pass by Shan Shan and decided to give them a try

I went in at 4pm on a Friday so a little late in the day for fresh bakery. So the buns looked kinda hard. I made 5 circles really trying to find something pleasing to the eye to buy. This place really looked like a small family run business and I wanted to give them my money so I kept looking things to buy.

In the end I spent $21 there and got an assortment of goods. My mom came over later on it the night. Ate some of the goods. Didn't say anything which is a positive feedback

But my tastebuds say this place is a win. Re steaming the pork bun or re heating the baked goods will add to it

I will definite support this business.
These people are so brutally honest and I love it! I wanted to get their pork bubs and she told me flat out "it's not good today. We've sold out of the good ones" and didn't let me buy the ones behind the glass door. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Love their deep fried long donuts, chicken pies and "chin tui" not sure what is in English but best in town in my opinion.

New shop, old favs. A brand-new bakery on 97st in the heart of Chinatown. The place is clean, everything is nicely labelled (it's a serve yourself kinda place) and the items are all fresh and tasty. Oh, and did I say super value too? Been quite a few times already and will be going again soon.
They also have a counter and a few chairs to have a quick bite inside, a feature sadly lacking in most Chinatown bakeries. Now all they need is some hot green tea or coffee and it would be perfect!

PS- Recently I was there and the lady at the check-out counter pointed out that one of my selections was a bit hard (stale). Without even asking for it, she replaced the said item with a fresh one! Where else would you get such service ?
