Very tasty subs and the prices are awesome. They are very fast too. I've only gone when there is a big group from work and they are amazingly fast.
Best banh mi in the city, hands down. I've only ever had the cold cuts and pâté banh mi, so I can't really speak to their other varieties. But, that's the best kind imo anyways. Plus, the people that work there, especially the old man (the owner I think), are so friendly!
I remember coming here back in 2000. Subs back then were $2. The subs were great back then and the service was super friendly. Fast forward 16 years later and the only thing that changed is the pricing. $4 now but still awesome awesome value for a great sub and awesome ppl. The bread, the stuffings, the portions, even the paper bag is just like how it always was.
I noticed a homeless man outside and as they were finishing my order. I ordered 1 more sub. The lady intuitively knew what I was going to do. She gave me a free can of pop

One of my all time favourite foods would have to be Vietnamese Subs. There’s so much versatility and options when it comes to subs and sandwiches! I grew up in Red Deer, and at that time, there was zero options if I wanted a Vietnamese sub. Even today, there is only one option, a small place that opened within the last couple years. My parents used to make weekly trips to Calgary or Edmonton to get Asian groceries, and along with that, were usually a couple of Vietnamese subs.
Fantastic banh mi! Very affordable, very fresh, and very delicious sandwiches made by very friendly staff. Great spot for lunch, especially if you are craving something that is not too heavy.
Four dollar Subs! Fresh ingredients! Friendly ladies! What more could you ask for? Been going here for years and I'll continue! Delicious!!!
SO CHEAP!! Seriously $4 subs. Ingredients taste really fresh and the two little grannies working there are adorable. Great service and great sandwiches, definitely my new go to place for banh mi.

This is the place my mom got our Vietnamese subs ever since I was a little girl, and now it's where I go. I love it. Super authentic, super quick, and like it should be, super cheap. I also love going to this specific sandwich shop because of the 3 adorable elderly individuals that's work here. They're super sweet to everyone that comes in and are always in a good mood. I just wish parking in the winter was better for the location. Nonetheless, an amazing place with amazing subs.
Go to place for Viet sub. I've been going to this place ever since Nhon Hoa (1) went down hill about 2-3 years ago. The ladies are nice and the subs are reasonably priced. Make sure you get a Vietnamese iced coffee to go with the sub. Yum!! (well I don't know if they offer iced coffee - I get my subs to go and my coffee at home :) BTW they close on Tuesdays - not competing with KFC hehehe

Cheap but decent. Probably the cheapest Viet subs one can get in Edmonton. Nothing fancy but tasty, healthy and filling (just how it should be). Check it out if in the 'hood..... you won't be disappointed.
I would hazard to say that Van Loc is one of the better places for traditional Vietnamese subs. I noticed other places in Chinatown are so cheap with the ingredients, you struggle to taste the fillings, but not here :) The bread is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and there is a great meat to veggie ratio - at least for me, anyways. The cute little old ladies are always really friendly, and it's hard to beat $3.50 for lunch! I think one of the "expensive" subs is around $4-$5.

So cheap so good, so healthy!. I remember learning in some class in university you cannot find a restaruant that meets all 3 criterias: good food, good price, good for you. obviously whoever wrote that hadn't been to Van Loc's. (or any other vietnamese restaraunt for that matter). i don't remember much from my years in university, but this sticks out, and i remember reading it in one of my sociology textbooks. the subs are 3 bucks! (or 3.50 i dont remember). super cheap! i always get the combination sub, which has an assortment of deli meats, pate, and fresh veggies. the bread it comes on is a far cry from anything you'd get at mr.sub or subway. i hate those place's buns.. they're bland and have a bad texture. Van Loc's subs are crispy on the outside, chewing on the inside, like a baguette from france. these are the BEST vietnamese subs in the city!! the owners are sooo super sweet. they're an older vietnamese couple, while i doubt their english is very good but they are ALWAYS smiling, and nodding their cute little heads at me, obviously very appreciative of my buisness. i just adore them - they're the cutest couple ever
GOOD! and Reasonable Prices as well. The prices are very reasonable! They charge you about 3.50 for a sub with assorted meat. I would like little more meat in my sub but for the low price, I really cant complain. Theres fresh veggies in it as well. However, if you are not into spicy I suggest you tell them to take it out of the sub because its VERY spicy.
My Favourite. This submarine shop lives up to everything anyone will tell you. Although we've been in a recession, the most famous Assorted Meats sub has only gone up in price $1.50 in the past 10 years! They are consistent, friendly, and because I've been in with my mom almost every other weekend they remember me, and even my boyfriend (who is Caucasian) and our orders. Their bread is delivered freshly baked almost everyday, and just the combination of tastes in the subs makes it worth every penny!
Inexpesive, fresh, fast, delicious. Fresh vietnamese submarines in a big toasted french baguette. Under $5. Can't ask for more! I go here all the time and this is my favourite vietnamese sub shop. Sometimes this place can get very busy during lunch.

For some strange reason, I don’t think I’ve ever had a bánh mì in Edmonton. It’s odd because I love Vietnamese sandwiches! I’ve had some amazing ones in Vietnam along with in San Francisco (Saigon Sandwich). I still dream about that bánh mì in SF, probably one of the best ones I’ve had outside of Vietnam!
