Sundubu Jjigae (Spicy Soft Tofu Stew). Don Day is one Korean restaurant in #Edmonton that I visited more than other ethnic restaurants in town.

Don Day has tasty food and very nice service. We had lunch there recently. The seafood pancake was excellent and my kimchi stew was extremely tasty. My partner's food was also very good. And the person serving us was friendly and prompt and took pains to make sure our kid was happy.

We will definitely return to Don Day.

I was on the southside of the city and felt like some Korean food for dinner so I looked up Don Day and went right over. It's rather small and you can easily miss it driving by. Their outside sign doesn't light up so yeah it's hard to see at night. But once you get there it's rather small, you can see the entire restaurant in one glance. It's a mom and pop shop which is cute. It was a cold rainy night so me and my girlfriend decided on some soups/stews to warm us up.

We got their Tteokbokki, which looked rather messy on the plate when it was given to us (the sauce almost spilt over when she gave it to us). Taste wise it was delicious, nice and spicy with nice chew. Next was their Seafood pancake and this one didn't impress much. I like mine super crispy and soft on the inside. This one though was neither, more so soft and mushy which did not make me happy. Flavour was okay but I just couldn't get over the texture. Thankfully there's dipping sauce.

To the soups and stews my girlfriend got their Kimchi Stew and I got their Pork Bone Soup. The Kimchi Stew was nice, delicious and spicy, chalked full of stuff like tofu, kimchi and pork. But wait during my girlfriends search through her stew there was absolutely no pork to be found...sad. My Pork Bone Soup faired better as it did have pork in it thankfully and went nicely with rice. I found their side dishes (Banchan) to be a tad lacking. We only got Kimchi and some pickled cabbage. Sad as I like my side dishes but oh well.

This place is small and cute but for me personally I have a better connection to other Korean restaurants for overall food quality. Lots of hits and misses here sadly.

first time here. a wonderful surprise close to our hotel. what drew us was that the menu had Camp Stew (aka Army Stew)! not many Korean restaurants serve this wonderful dish. Don Day did a fantastic job with this dish. really full of meats and vegetables and two types of noodles (glass noodles and instant Ramen noodles) as well as that wonderful sliced rice cake. the waitress said it only feeds two, so we also ordered a beef Bi Bim Bop, but seriously, the Camp Stew (#15 on the menu) was plenty for all three of us! and very delicious. we were worried it would be too spicy so we requested to have the Kim Chi on the side. the broth was spicy, but not overly so. we loved it! and it also came with two bowls of rice to help you finish off all the broth.

the Bi Bim Bop was ok. bowl was nice and hot, so got the lovely crispy rice that everyone loves with Bi Bim Bop, but the beef was rather bland. seemed like they didn't marinate the beef with anything. certainly not the best Bi Bim Bop we've had. likely wouldn't order this again.

we will certainly remember this place for the next time we're in Edmonton. we'll certainly try other menu items, but the Camp Stew is the draw.

Don Day is easily one of my favourite Korean places in the city. I’ve been here a handful of times now since my original post (see here) and have yet to experience a bad meal. This is a quintessential hole in the wall, industrial restaurant that seems to be scattered all over Edmonton. The moment you step through DD’s doors, you’re greeted with a heavenly aroma. K-pop videos play non-stop on the TV’s and Korean posters plaster the wall as decor. The server/owner is super friendly and genuine. It’s like your eating at your Korean friend’s parents place. Wish I knew some Koreans here…:(

After coming back to Don Day a couple of times, I have to say this is probably one of my favourite korean restaurant in town. If you are craving a nice bowl of pork bone stew or wanting to share a big pot of budae jjajie with a group of friends, I would recommend this place. We decided to share the Budae Jjijae (Army Stew) as the first dish. For this dish, there are veggies (zucchini), potatoes, glass noodles, spam, spicy paste and instant noodles boiled in the pot. This is probably one of my favourite dish at this place. The soup base is spicy and delicious. They are quiet generous with the veggies and spam, as you can see in the picture. I am getting hungry just looking at the pictures. Even though its a huge pot, we were able to finish it super fast.

A little while back, I was really having a Korean kick and went to 3-4 different Korean restaurants in a matter of a couple of weeks, with one of my favourite being Don Day. It’s located pretty south Edmonton on Parsons road and 32 avenue. There’s a small parking lot, which is relatively empty in the evening, so parking is relatively easy. The interior is small, with wooden tables. There’s usually some k-pop playing in the background on some TV.

Oh man oh man oh man I loved the veganized stone bowl Bi Bim Bap (no egg).  I've been a Koreaphile lately and I've been sampling Korean foods in the city.  I even liked their fresh Kim Chi (a taste I'm still trying to get used to).  The seaweed salad side dish was delicious!  Enjoyed the Korean ad posters and the K-pop videos playing in the background.  Love little holes in the wall like this. Service was great, prices were great, food was great!  Win-win-win.

Deleted my old review (Hanuri) for a newer/better review on Don Day!. I was afraid of stepping in this place again because Hanuri was so terrible. I'm glad I did. Perhaps because of the expectation differences, I find the selection to be more unique and stranger (but better!) than some of my favorite restaurants in town. I mean, they don't have deep fried chicken like at Wing Chicx, fine, but the B-Bim-Baab and deep fried seaweed rolls and the soup taste 10x better than any other Korean offerings in town! It's meeting and exceeding some of the best Calgary Korean restaurants I've been to (Sura).

There's these hot pot dish thingies for about $20 to $30 that you can share with 2 or 4 people. I've never seen them anywhere else in Edmonton before. It's usually order-off-the-menu or BBQ style like Ginseng. I didn't order any this time but there were a lot of Koreans that knew what they were doing and ordered them. They seemed to have enjoyed it lots!

I loved how they gave me that red bottle of sauce for my B-Bim-Baab so I can mix my rice and add in extra sauce as necessary throughout the meal. It was a very delicious sauce (on the sweeter side) and I usually hate sweet sauces. The stone bowl was so hot it kept all of my rice nice and crispy for about an hour. I kept mixing it so that all the rice is evenly crispy.

Oh, and I dare you try the deep fried seaweed rolls... comparing these to the ones I bought at Lucky 97 (North side) for $10 a package, the ones at Don Day blow them out of the water!!!

Good Pork bone soup!. I've been told of the "Lee House" Pork bone soup (gam ja tang) being very famous.. and it was total and complete disappointment. Now the porkbone soup at Don Day was a completely different story.
First of all, you get a good size portion for the money you pay. Three of us were stuffed after medium sized soup which came up to be about $35 after tax. You can also do pan-fried rice for $5 (2 bowls of rice) but we were too stuffed to try *sniff*

Yummy!. Went here for lunch today. Didn't know what to expect. Ordered an appetizer of spring roll. It was average. Also ordered the Beef with 8 different veggies in the hot stone bowl. Now that was awesome. Miso soup came with it along with some bean sprout salad, kimchi and i think it was shredded daikon salad too. All was very good. Very small place, nothing fancy. Would love to come back again very soon!

Fresh ingredients = fresh food = good food!. Came alone visiting the computer bcom place nearby. I was feeling a lil hungry but not too hungry so I decided to try something that would be similar to a snack.

Got the gimbap, those sushi things that has rice and seaweed wrapped around to hold it.

Excellent stuff, I can tell by the taste that the stuff is fresh and it went down pretty well with the other snack I ordered.

I got the dokbokii which is the rice sticks in red sauce (hot sauce) and eating this with the rice that I mentioned above was an awesome combo.

Great place!. Got to the above address and couldn't find Manna Noodle Cafe, it is called Hanuri Korean Restaurant now. Not sure if ownership has changed or just the name. It was a small, cozy and cute restaurant. I order Stone Bowl Beef Bibimbap for $12.50. It came with a small miso as well. The Bibimbap was awesome! I love it when they give me the bottle of sauce, so I can put as much as I want. The server was so sweet, she knew we have never been there so she was constantly ensuring that everything was good. I will definitely be going back, the only issue is the hours, they close at 8PM. I'm a big "Late night" kinda person. Also, for you ramen lovers, they have ramen!

Great noodle Cafe!. Manna Noddle Cafe is vegetarian friend. Their spicy sauce is a must try if you love spicy food. The spicy taste is similar to kim-chi but this sauce has an extra taste of sweetness which bring the flavour up a notch. The Ddok-Bok-Gi (rice cake with spicy sauce) is a good way to start but make sure you drink some water or tea before you start your entree because the strong spicy taste may overpower a non-spicy entree. Their potato noodle is another great dish. They serve it with rice but I would prefer the noodles by itself. Their serving size can be a bit big for someone doesn't have a big stomach for lunch. But I am sure I will be back soon. Love this place.

Second time trying Don Day Korean Restaurant but I feel that I should be eating here more often. The food is awesome and they have a very relaxed, easy going vibe. There are cool wooden table booths to sit at and K-pop music videos playing in the background. That and I like how the restaurant is tucked away in a random little spot. You gotta know about the good spots, ya dig?
