I've been here a couple of times for dinner and once for dim sum.
On both occassions, dinner was great and I found it better than Good Buddy (there was a time I frequented there just because of convenience).
The dim sum is made-to-order and is not a push cart systhem. With that being said, you can expect fresh dim sum that tastes really good. However, you will have to wait quite a bit. We waited about 30-45 mins just for dim sum. If you usually go to dim sum to have a quick brunch or you enjoy the hustle and bustle and loud socializing environment, Wok n Roll isn't for you.
Service was not bad on all the times I went - the only complaint that I have is how long the dim sum took. Otherwise, it is just like any other Chinese restaurant where the service is at it's minimum.
Expect weekend dinners to be busy but weekdays shouldn't be so bad. Dim sum was not busy at all.
Eggs, bacon, and toast? Pshhh, everyone knows that the best kind of brunch is dim sum. For me, dim sum is family time. And for the majority of our lazy Sunday outings, we find ourselves at Wok N Roll since it's convenient and relatively close by. Wok N Roll, besides winning the restaurant pun game, is more like your typical neighbourhood Chinese joint than a destination restaurant à la Urban China or Emperor's Palace. It's not fancy by any means, but that's the way I prefer it. Waitstaff who remember you, tasty food that comes out hot, and almost a peaceful atmosphere when compared to the hustle and bustle of other dim sum restaurants.
Dim sum here is great! I like the ordering style (instead of carts) because I feel that the quality of the dishes is better. They come out fresher and hotter and you get exactly what you want!
Food came out hot and the quality is superior to other dim sum places in the city I've been to. Meat dishes have lots of substance and not too much filler or salt. Lots of variety too, some dishes I've never tried and, of course, the dim sum favorites.
The price is also excellent, I would eat here again!
EDIT: Okay I also want to add that the service here is great, especially for a Chinese restaurant! Most Chinese restaurants, you expect mediocre service (scowling faces, rolling eyes, long waits) but the staff here are excellent! They smile, they're polite, they bring you anything extra that you need (hot sauce, water etc) quickly. Very impressed with the service here!
Best Chinese food in north side. After reading some reviews i can say the people that don't enjoy this place is because what they are ordering this is a chinese restaurant maybe try something else then the western chinese food and maybe try ordering real chinese food lol try the crispy garlic chicken with soy sauce best in edmonton dim sum is also very good
Love this restaurant. Never fail us.
Pretty good. Food was hot. Lots of food in the combo for one. Reception was really nice seemed a bit confused when I asked for cutlery for takeout
Authentic!. Very good, authentic Chinese food. The dim sum was excellent, and their buns are deliciously warm and fresh. I recommend dim sum and dinner here, you're in for a treat!
Came here on a sat night and it was pretty busy (good sign). we were a table of 4 and ordered the "meal for 6 ppl" for $148. pretty authentic chinese food. on ly complaint is the crab seemed a bit small, compared to other chinese places. the steamed fish and birdsnest dish were my favourite. overall would recommend. also dont forget to grab a free chinese calendar from wok and roll. nice fancy gold letters
Really busy but great food.. If you plan on having dinner here then you better decide on making a reservation or else you're going to have to wait awhile. Great food, wait time might be a little long, waitress should really clean up their act tho and be more friendly and warm.
We had reservations for 6 pm on a Saturday evening for about 20. Food was promptly served by 6:30 (the menu was picked days ago) and was ok but the staff was VERY RUDE because they rushed us to leave as soon as the last dish was served (about 8 pm). We were actually told by two different servers to finish up because there are people waiting. We were there to celebrate a milestone which was cut short as we did not have time to finish our cake. They had promised our tables to people waiting an hour ago. Beware.
Nice fish. We went for dim sum on sunday morning, and we notice this one big Mama fish at the front door, what a beauty. The server told us it was an arrowwana fish, whatever that is, it was beautiful. food was great, service was great compare to other dim sum place.
Pretty decent Chinese food in that part of town.. If you don't want to go to Chinatown or Good Buddy's North (Oh great...) then this is a very good place to go!
It's got that old school Chinese restaurant feel. The decor is not nice and it feels borderline sketchy but the food actually tastes good. The price is OK and the portion can be a little bit more but... do you want to drive all the way to Chinatown?!
I think this is my personal favorite for Chinese food in the Northeast... :)
We have been here quite a few times on the weekends for dim sum (usually between 11am - 12pm) and it's our new favourite place. There isn't much for good dim sum in the north side. (Ahem, Good Buddy...). Contrary to what other reviewers say about the quality here, it's quite impressive actually. Tons of free parking, service is fast. We were seated immediately and asked what kind of tea we would like. We were given the menu to mark down what dishes we'd like. The menu is in Chinese and English and it's easy to understand the translation. Dishes came out Fast! The portions are quite big. They give plump sized Har Gows (shrimp dumplings) as the standard 4 to a bamboo steamer and they are bursting with shrimp. The Siu Mai, steamed buns, chicken feet and shrimp spring rolls are quite impressive too. Everything tastes fresh, albeit some items are saltier than others like the fried items. We have tried almost everything on their dim sum menu and haven't discovered anything we did not like. Definitely check out Wok n Roll for dim sum and see for yourself. I can't give a proper review for dinner as we have only dined here once.
5 stars. My wife and I went their for supper on friday and experienced the best chinese food we ever tasted. way to go wok and roll
Very good food!. Consistently good food. I have taken my family to eat here on several different occasions, and we have never been disappointed. My favourites are the salted fish fried rice, wonton soup, and pan-fried salty prawns. This place is highly underrated.
Very Good Food. I have eaten here on 3 occasions within the past few months. For 2 of my 3 visits, the restaurant was so full of Chinese patrons, I could not get a seat, and so I ordered take out. Any time a Chinese restaurant is full of Chinese patrons, you know the food is good and authentic. On my last visit, I found seating and ate in-house. I always order a dinner-for-one combo. Portions are extremely generous, and well prepared. Great value indeed. I highly reccomend this place.
Great! Would go again. I usually go here for dinner with my family on special occasions. Its pretty much your traditional Chinese food served on a lazy susan. My family usually gets the set dinners.
Peach Shrimp- Deep fried just perfectly with a yummy creamy mayo sauce and some slices of canned peach.
Chinese Vegetarian Yee Mein Noodles- Has some slices of mushrooms in there but overall the noodles are quite bland.
Special Fried Rice- Great! has bis of shimps, BBQ pork, peas, onions. Everything was well blended and put together. Fried just right!
Shark fin Soup- Very tasty! Had nice amounts of ingredients in there. Little bits of squid and sharkfin, egg, and shrimp. Mix it with a little bit of red vinegar and hot sauce and its perfect.
Porkchops with bits of pepper and onion- Fried nicely and mixed with the vegetables. Was juicy and tender on the inside and a little bit of a kick on the outside.
Seafood and Vegetable Birds Nest. Loved the veggies though the mushrooms were not cooked all the way through. nice big juicy scallops, shrimps and squid. Very good.
Everything is priced very decently for traditional Chinese food. They did renovations as well, on the outside and in the dining room (Though you might not be able to tell). Overall very good, would go again!
Very good authentic Chinese cuisine at a very affordable price!
With family in town (and noone feeling like cooking for a large group day after day), we headed to Wok N Roll for cheap but tasty eats. We were glad that we made reservations as we had a large table, and as usual, the place was bustling with tables filling up as soon as they're vacated. Service is polite and the kitchen proves to be again nearly super humanly efficient, as our
