Came here on a Saturday night after a visit to RAM because they take reservations. There are 2 locations and this one is in an older trendy area of Edmonton called Old Strathcona. There is street parking and we found a spot right in front. It's free after 6pm so we paid for 30 minutes. When we arrived we were seated promptly.

We were meeting some friends from Edmonton and when they arrived we ordered. My kids shared the Tonkotsu Ramen and my wife got her own. I ordered the sushi combo and added 6 salmon sashimi. My friends ordered ramen and/or sushi. The sashimi and sushi were excellent. There also was a board oh fresh sushi specials they bring in.

The Ramen however, was only okay. My family make it a point to go to lots of Ramen restaurants wherever we go. My daughter said the broth tasted a bit like cream corn soup. There was big hype about the restaurant making it's own noodles but it kinda fell flat.

Service was great. The group enjoyed themselves. This is a great place for sashimi and sushi, but if you're looking for great Ramen I'd go somewhere else.

Dropped in for lunch. The place is clean and welcoming, and along a more quiet section of Whyte Ave. The sushi bar looked promising and there was a list of special fish, which we did not try. We sat by a bright window...the chairs are solid metal frame and weigh a ton. The menu(s) offer a lot of the usual variety from appetizers to sushi to donburi to ramen. It was clear that this was formulaic to the previous generation of fuller service Japanese restaurants. Given the name, we were hoping for a great ramen stop, but the menu and place did not inspire us to even try the ramen. In fact, in a food court like sense, we just ordered bento boxes. The accompanying miso soup was whitish instead of miso coloured but was pleasant, and the salad was fresh but more in keeping with the 70's steak house iceberg lettuce salads with a drizzle of thinned mayonnaise. The box had tempura (which was quite good), rice (ok but not steaming), teriyaki chicken (good grill flavour, but overcooked to slight dry), and some salmon/tuna/snapper sashimi (fresh enough but somewhat flavourless). The prices were ok for the meal at about $13 per box. If this were a food court, I'd be happy, but there are many choices further down the street that are more refreshed.

Very good... just make sure to ask for toppings if you want them on your ramen.. else youll just get minimal things. Kimchi bowl is only noodles, broth and kimchi...

Unagi, Bento B, Salmon and Negi Toro Maki

Probably my go to for sushi when on whyte ave. This place is pretty good. The Unagi here is one of the best. It’s cooked properly and not overly sauced. Domo to the chef. Bento B had miso soup, sashimi, chicken teriyaki, green salad and assorted tempura. Tuna sashimi here is above average and really tasty. I’m always weirded out when chicken isn’t breaded, but whatever i’ll be healthy here. The maki here was standard but only wished I got toro sushi instead cause a big chunk of toro is better than small rolled bits that will end up tasting like soy sauce and wasabi anyways.

Located on Whyte ave, this sushi place is in a cool location. Cool atmosphere in the bottom of a building that half looks out onto Whyte itself. Service if pretty good and the sushi is better.

Dragon on whyte roll is my absolute favourite here! The sauce is so delicious I order a side of it to dip all my other sushi in. Really great atmosphere a bit on the smaller side, the chairs are impossibly heavy and might as well be nailed to the ground. I'm a sushi lover and do like most of their rolls. Service is not that great.

Happy to say my quest to find the best octopus in Edmonton came to an end when I visited. The takoyaki is just the best. It's also hard to find somewhere with decent options for ramune, which Tokyo Noodle Shop definitely has. A gem, for sure

This was my 3rd place this week  I tried ramen in Edmonton & it was pretty good I would probably have liked it more if I hadn't had the best of ramen I have tried the day before at Nomiya but the Cha Shu (pork) Ramen here was pretty solid had a nice clean flavored pork broth seasoned perfectly with lots of pork & veg. I also got the crabmeat puff you get 6 wontons filled with crabmeat, shrimp & cream cheese & these were delicious they came with plum sauce but were better on there own.

Pretty decent sushi at reasonable prices. If you're looking to satisfy your sushi craving, this is the place to go. Though I would not consider this place to be authentically Japanese, it is pretty okay in terms of providing fresh sushi. Had the red dragon roll and the dynamite roll which were both tasty. The chairs here are exceptionally heavy and I have no idea why. Literally had to exert some strength to drag out the chair before taking a seat. Service is quick and satisfactory.

Been here before, food and service was really good. Prices on the menu are super affordable and you get a good amount of food. Slices are cut evenly, and good portion sizes. They're on uber eats now, last Friday they had a 5$ menu item. It was my first time trying uber eats so I had a 20$ discount ;) message me for a code haha !! Anyways It was dragon rolls ! I love dragon rolls, it was neatly rolled and the tempera wasn't soggy at all. This specific roll came with 8 pieces. The next order I had was spicy salmon uramaki which was $6.95. The order comes with 8 pieces, it was delicious as well. The last item I got was supposed to be beef tataki but I read the menu wrong so it was beef maki. It was OK, didn't want to pay "$9.95" for the amount I gotten. I literally got 7 pieces so it 1.42$ a piece ??!? It was just basically beef wrapped in asparagus nothing special. The sauce was beef teriyaki, same taste as Edos.

Very good value sushi place on Whyte, especially for take out. We have tried some basic maki rolls (salmon, spicy tuna, inside out) and were not disappointed. Maybe a bit long wait time. Will be back for sure.

Awesome sushi! We got the rainbow roll and assorted sashimi -fresh and big portions! I got a bowl of breaded pork cutlet on rice and it was very tasty, but I would have preferred picking one or the other because it was so filling . My partner got the seafood ramen and said it was the best she's had in Edmonton and she's becoming a connoisseur ;) I recommend sitting at the sushi bar and watching the chefs.

The food is worth it!. I have been to TNS twice now and could very well become a regular. On my first visit I had an udon and it was hot and flavorful! Tonight I was there with a few girlfriends and we ordered an array of sushi and were very happy with our eating experience.

The only downsides were that all four of us practically hurt ourselves on the heavy chairs when trying to sit down and stand up, and the server was less than friendly. We waited about a half hour to pay and when she left us with the debit machine we had to enter our own amounts and run our own cards. I guess sub par service can be expected with an Asian restaurant as it seems to be the norm across the city.

Despite the heavy chairs and poor service, the food is worth it.

Best Sushi In Edm. I'm a self-professed Sushi Snob. It's not that I'm a snob, really. It's that I dig Fresh Sushi. Many a place skates by on Sushi that's sub-par, or barely average. Tokyo Noodle Shop IS NOT one of them. I'd walked by TNS many a time over the years, never going in. So many wasted visits.

I went with two others. Bill came to $75 (w/o tip), but A) We ate like Kings, and B) It's truly great quality Sushi. I've been to Japan, I've had authentic. I also routinely drive to Red Deer for a Sushi place there. I know good Sushi.

I got the Beef Udon, Tuna Tataki (a personal favorite/staple), and the Maguro (Tuna Sashimi). Beef Udon was among the best I've had to date. The broth tasted like the excellent Beef that was marinating in it. Not a trace of fat on it. Plenty of Noodles, and fresh Broccoli also. A treat. The Tataki was cut into the normal portions, with the marinade/sauce on the side. I prefer it sitting in (not submersed), but this was a nice change of pace. It was great. Not a gratuitous amount, just the right amount. The Maguro was the star of the show. Massive 2/2.5" blocks of heaven sent Tuna. I want more right now, and it's not even 11am, the next day.

Other items on the table were spring rolls (the kind served everywhere. meh), the Tiger Roll (shrimp interlaced with avocade. so good), Yam Tempura (light not greasy), and some Tuna Maki also (very good), amongst others.

I saw Bento Boxes for $10-$12 each. Those'll be delved into next trip.

Staff was quick for it being so busy. Prices are reasonable. One person could eat really well for $20-$25. It's worth it completely. I'll be back no question.

It's not all you can eat (as is the regular haunt I go to), but it's local, and it's SO good.

After going to Kyoto and Mikado for many years, I think Tokyo Noodle House has stolen my heart! Excellent sushi at reasonable (for Edmonton) prices. The salmon and tuna sashimi melted in my mouth! The service could be better, but I'd say it's on par with Kyoto.

Just Decent. The first time I went here, it was pretty good. The sushi rolls were okay, the sashimi was great. The tempura batter was too thick though, I would not recommened the tempura unless you like ir chunky.I also tried the kim chi ramen which had tons and tons of noodles. It seemed like a never ending bowl.

The second time I went here I had terrible service. We got sat to a table and then waited 15 minutes before any of the servers came to us. I actually had to waive one of them over for service.

I wish they had more types and varirties of Udon/ Ramen noodles because they do list themselves as a noodle shop after all.

The food is good, I guess you just have to go when its not as busy.

Great value Bento Box lunch + @ Tokyo Noodle Shop on Whyte Avenue. My family and I have been coming here for years and enjoy the consistent quality, value, and hospitality. The prices have recently gone up for the Bento box lunch selections but they are still comparatively reasonable and continue to offer interesting (and generous) selections. The Dragon roll on Whyte is also a guilty pleasure (quite a treat) ! I've yet to have a bad experience here in the past seven years. (Some folks have mentioned that the chairs are heavy. And? SO? They are rather solid, but how that would in any way whatsoever detract a reviewer from enjoying such a pleasant neighborhood mainstay is beyond my comprehension. Tokyo Noodle is a solid bet- and I hope it graces Whyte avenue for years to come. Enjoy!

I have been coming here for years and every time I am here, the food and the service is always really good. Their lunch bentos are fresh and delicious, although it is unfortunate that they only serve bentos for lunch and not for dinner as well... The rice is just at the right consistency and is never overcooked. The tempura is perfectly light, crispy and barely greasy at all. The wasabi there tastes more mild compared to other places where the taste is very overwhelming. The ramen is always nice and hot and fills you right up. The green tea is good however the teapots are impossible to pour without spilling. The decor is lovely and the whole restaurant is always quite clean. The chairs are heavy but you get used to them if you go there as often as someone like me. The service never fails to please, the waitress is always very polite and the food always comes to my table unbelievably fast. I ordered a bento yesterday and it was on my table, along with the salad and miso soup, in less than ten minutes. Even though it is not an authentic Japanese restaurant, the food is great and the service is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Have loved this place every time!. Fresh sashimi, maki rolls that burst with flavor, and tons of options to choose from to suit anyone's taste. The lunch bentos are a great deal, try one if you can! My favorites on the menu would have to be their cones, the crabmeat mixed temaki and the chopchop temaki are excellent. My dad loves their ramen bowls and enjoys the katsu especially, while my boyfriend will go for a bento or a rice bowl.
The best part of the experience here is the atmosphere -- the servers are friendly and efficient, food comes out fresh and hot, and best of all they are always fast even if they are busy! Definitely worth every penny and I have made this my regular go-to for sushi, even take-out.

Some Guy. Went here for lunch, and I was generally satisfied with the place. It is a nice looking space, it was quite busy (Saturday Lunch hour), though the furniture is not my favourite. That seems like a minor gripe, but the chairs had to weigh at least 40 lbs! Very difficult to move.

We had the Crab dumplings (crab in fried wonton wrapper), seafood ramen, and a mixed Udon (chicken, pork, etc). All were tasty and warming on a cold day. I also tried the oyster on a halfshell, and while tasty, it was the smallest oyster I've ever seen, let alone eaten. Compared to the Oysters that you can get down the street at Dadeo, I was disappointed.

Overall, I'd come here again. Will have to try their sushi next time. . .

Love the look. First off, I love the look and feel of this place. While the screaming baby two tables behind me was somewhat unpleasant, everything else here was great. Well, there is the chairs. As others have mentioned, they are ungodly heavy; seriously, there's no need for it, or the rubber caps on the feet that make them even more ungainly to move.

The menu is fairly comprehensive and the food seems well prepared. The tea made a mess all over the table; there seemed to be no way to properly pour until the pot was half empty. The service was attentive and polite and as such they also kindly brought us extra napkins. As I made a joke our spillage we were told its the pots and it happens to everyone. Whether it is the pots or merely my temporary inability to pour properly, it was most kind of them to disregard the issue.

The portions of eel and salmon on the nigiri sushi (listed simply as "Sushi" were enourmous. The avacado in the dynamite roll wasn't really ripe but better than I've found in other places. The chop-chop roll was nice, the scallop wasn't over-powered by the mayo but the fish roe was noticably absent. I wanted to try the "Dragon on Whyte" roll but was going out for a lighter meal this evening and didn't really have the room.

All in all a positive experience. I will most definately be back.

3.5/5 for Tokyo Noodle Shop. This place is on the same block that I live on AND Japanese is my favourite food. So it's ABOUT TIME that I finally ate here!
It's a relatively small restaurant, but very classic and modern. Heaviest chairs EVER. (Seriously, go there, you'll see.) It seemed very much like a 'local Whyte spot,' with all the customers being young and in groups of friends or couples.
I started off my meal with green tea (0.95). Looking over the large menu, (while constantly getting sidetracked) we tried to come up with the best "eating plan." We settled on Miso soup (3$) to start, and assorted Tempura (12$), 4 pieces of sushi each (4-5$ each), and steamed rice (4$) as a main course.
I sometimes have dreams about Miso soup, that's how much I love it. This Miso was pretty good, however they provided spoons which seemed un-authentic to me. The Tempura was delicious, and the sauce to go with it was perfect too. Sometimes I find that some Japanese places will have a weird Tempura sauce - sometimes too thick or too strong-flavoured. This one was just right.
For the sushi we had salmon, spicy tuna, shitake mushroom and… yellow snapper? I can't remember. They were all really amazing. I'm a big fan of the raw fish ones myself, and they were perfectly flavourful. I'm used to getting spicy tuna in a roll, but this time it was wrapped in seaweed - which was different, but good!
We finished the meal with two kinds of ice cream, green tea and coconut (4$ each). There's something about green tea ice cream - it's just a cut above the rest. The coconut was good too though, with real bits of coconut in it. Also, we found out that mixed together… They ain't bad! Ha ha.

The one thing I need to comment on, however, is that this place is called a "noodle shop" yet we had absolutely no noodles. The back page of the menu was filled with delicious looking udon bowls, etc. I feel a second visit is required so that I can sample their specialty.

...Nick and I are within walking distance of 4 sushi restaurants, but I always choose Tokyo Noodle Shop! They just went through renovations so I was worried that they'd change their style and what they have to offer, but was pleasantly surprised that all they did was spruce up the place. They changed the layout slightly, gave the area a nice coat of light green paint, and bordered the dinning with these beautiful green glass tiles. Luckily they kept the beautiful brickwork and their great menu! Nick and I got our favourites to share! We started out with the green tea, miso soup and assorted tempura, which is pretty standard for most Japanese restaurants. Their miso soup is full of flavour, and the tofu swimming in it is wondefully soft. The tempura was perfectly battered, light and not greasy, and was piping hot. Next we had my favourite thing on the menu - th
