Stayed at Sawbridge Inn across the street and popped in for quick takeout. The spring rolls were tasty but a little greasy and on the smaller side. However the California rolls and dynamite rolls were really good - super fresh and flavourful. They were made fresh while we waited.

My Gym Buddies Always come here after the gym. So we came in here on a weekday in the evening around 9pm it was pretty slow so i didn't have a good feeling. But to my amaze the food was some of the freshest I have had for sashimi especially when you come in late at a restaurant you worry about old food etc. Their sushi chef prep some pretty awesome rolls like the caterpillar roll, de ja vu roll. Loads of rolls and selections. Definitely a cool spot to check out. worth it.

This place is one of the freshest sushi places I have been to and I would like someone to challenge me with that. i am a Foody from Toronto and have just moved out here. Tried a lot of places I eat out on a regular basis and I have to eat here at least once or twice a week. At first when i tried sushi here i thought the prices were more then toronto but soon realized this place has class, style, great services, and decent pricing, shout out to some of the best servers as they remember what i usually order and even rememebr my name.

Stumbled upon this place after going to the gym at LA fitness and what could i say a healthy place to eat after the gym. Now its my familys go to place for pho on sunday mornings. Its actually pretty cool i usually hang out for sushi on saturday nights as they have live djs playing music they have great prices on their highball specials. So we end up drinking lots but the next morning we come back for pho to cure the hang over. Definately one of the only places to drinks lots at and return the next morning to a hangover cure.

I just enjoyed a dinner here on chinese new year and liked the decor they had. Even though they are not a chinese restaurant the atmosphere was great. Food was great as always and the sushi was fresh as can be we prefer the salmon sashimimi which is always our favorite. Definately has gotten better through the time with great specials. Hands down the best sushi in edmonton.

I don't think this restaurant deserves the low ratings that it has been given. Service was decent and food quality was as expected. The price is very normal for a medium class restaurant. The interior is very well designed and decorated.  Will be revisiting some time soon.

I always noticed Volcano when driving out of Gateway Blvd. So I decided to try it with a friend.

Attentive, friendly servers and warm service. Kimono girls make the experience more fun and appealing. The place is clean and more elegant compared to its sister restaurant Maki Maki (for those who didn't know). Expect the same menu of Japanese + Vietnamese cuisine with a "Tapas" menu featuring an array of unique appetizers/small food.

I ordered the Bun Bo Hue. It was flavorful and spicy. Came in a huge portion. However, the broth to noodle ratio wasn't balanced (too much soup). Still decent though, and I love accompanying it with rolls. Try it :)

Also ordered the Dragon Eyes Roll, a typical Japanese restaurant favourite. This one at Volcano is a bit bland, the salmon was overcooked and it could've used more Sriracha aioli. Probably would opt-out for a different maki.

Third order was the Volcano Roll. Probably their signature maki which consists of BBQ eel, shrimp tempura and a spicy cream sauce topped with tobiko. I honestly liked the roll in the beginning...but when it came down to the last few pieces, the rice tasted a bit "tangy"? Wasn't expecting that. It would taste better if they cooked the rice correctly.

Overall. The food was average, prices were a tad high for the quality of the rolls. But I would probably visit again if I was craving the Vietnamese + Japanese combo again. Or just go to Maki-Maki if i wasn't further south :)

Ignore the negative reviews!. The food here is excellent and the service is even better. Reading the reviews I think when they first opened they went through a bit of a learning curve but have seemed to smooth over their problems now. I have only good things to say about this place. Give it a try or a second try if you've already been!

My new favorite Pho go to. Good services and good food. Usually dine in at MAKI MAKI but heard this place is by the same owner and decided to check it out. Sure it may seem like $1-3 more on most dishes but look at the location and the set up in there. Amazing! Made me feel like dining in a more open/like luxury restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone I know & more.

Good food good service. I came to volcano restaurant so many times since they open. Today I decided to write a review for this place. I stay at the hotel opposite volcano.
I have to say that they have a very good service and good food which I could not find any where eles in 15 years.
The restaurant is always so clean,w.c is very clean, the manager here literin for us to rinse mouth after I eat sashimi. Good job
The food I had was salmon and tuna sashimi, beef tatake, bake oyster, Veg and prawn tempura, deja vu roll, dragon eye roll,Mexican roll, and the Pho tai.
Today I saw a bowl of ramen next to my table and I started to order Kara spicy ramen... The ramen is so delicious, you can taste the soup very sweet from the bone..
When I think about edmonton, I think about volcano just like my home.
Thank you volcano to served us.

Best sushi in town !. Everything is super fresh and filling. The price was totally worth it. I brought a few of my friends over and they loved it too. great atmosphere, everything was neat and clean and organized. super friendly service, great for late night dinners and also family friendly. The dragon roll and spicy tuna rolls were very delicious. Definately coming here at least once a week. The vietnamese dishes had a very authentic taste. reminds me of my moms cooking. definately give those a try also.

Volcano is in a great location for those living south of Whyte Avenue–easily accessible by Calgary Trail and Gateway Boulevard, the restaurant offers both Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine in a well-decorated, spacious building. The combination of Asian flavour offerings is unusual but not unheard-of in our city, where one can get Korean short ribs at many Japanese restaurants, or enjoy a Pad Thai served up alongside a Curry Laksa. When we arrived at the event, we were greeted with a glass of prosecco and given a chance to grab a seat at one of the many tables. The food samplings were laid out in platters: sushi, sashimi, and maki on one side of the table, short ribs, spring rolls, and pork chops on the other. The divide was interesting but not unwelcome–it’s nice to be able to pair cool raw fish with a cooked item or two. I took a little bit of everything, grabbed a sake caesar, and sat down with my plate of goodies. Everything was good, although the short ribs will always come up tops for me. The tuna sashimi was light and fluffy, as it should be, and the unagi maki was filled with flavour. We were lucky enough to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony, introduced by Ingrid Schifer de Dennis from Schif and the City and followed by a brief speech from the owner of Volcano. The event also had a photo booth set up by Mojo Photo , which was a great way to document the occasion (other than the usual flurry of tweets and food photos, of course). I haven’t had a chance to try the full menu yet, but I’d rate Volcano as a tasty, reliable Japanese/Vietnamese restaurant based on my experience at the grand opening. I don’t feel like I can give it a fair rating until I dine there on a regular night, so my apologies for not including the usual wine glass ratings at the
