Review Rosebowl Pizza - Edmonton

Jeff K
This has become our favourite pizza place. We have been there several times with friends and the food and service have always been top shelf. One thing I noticed is the staff are rarely the same, so turnover seems to be an issue, but they train the new staff well, because the service is seemless for the customer, other than not seeing the same server twice. A homerun!!!!

Very, very good pizza. Less greasy than Royal Pizza. Not cheap but you get what you pay for!
Andrés Melo Gámez
Good pizza, nothing out of this world, great service (good communication skills), and nice environment to hangout with friends.
Nick McQuik
Wednesday half price wings, $3 beers, and a free comedy show.

Went here with the family to grab a bite. Heard it was pretty good from the Edmonton journal but there was only two other tables and zero servers. Waited awhile for any type of human contact and decided to get up and ask the owner for a menu. To be fair at night its a lounge and by day its still pretty much a lounge. Had to leave because it took way to long to get any type of serves. If you have a lot of free time come without the kids.

Don't know what all the hype is about. A below average pizza at a huge price<br/><br/>I'd get better at Flamingo at 159 St and 87 Ave for 40% less

Had to see what the fuss was about. Since Edmonton is rated in the Conde Nast top 10 pizza cities in the world - Rose Bowl also was mentioned. At first glance I thought the pies were way to pricey, the Hawaiian pizza did not disappoint. Very good bang for your buck. Thick, old school deep dish with very tangy sauce. Perfect blend of tasty ham and pineapple. Definitely recommend. Delivery took over an hour but I think you can't rush a good thing. Will have to dine in next time!

Pretty good! Pizza was fresh and delicious. We sat on the patio and it was nice. Service was lacking a bit near the end of our stay but overall it was really good. I would recommend it and I will return.

One of the best pizza places in Edmonton! The waitresses are always friendly. The only thing is it's always quiet in there and we're usually the only customers, which makes it kind of weird.

We went to Rose Bowl on a Thursday night. We were seated right away, but then there weren't very many people there. The ambience was nice and parking was convenient. Once we ordered our pizza (pesto chicken), it took quite a while for it to come out. We also ordered a Caesar salad that came in a very small bowl, which is disappointing since the salad cost $6. As for the pizza itself, it was dry, salty, and lacking in toppings. I had even forgotten there was supposed to be chicken on it because I never saw or tasted chicken on my pizza! Once we received our food, the service slowed significantly, even though we were still only one of 4 tables. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Poor service. <br/>Venue: dingy. Looks much nicer in the picks online. Very cheap looking club-like interior. The restaurant side has no windows, very dark - feels like you're dining in someones cold basement <br/>Staff: Well we were the only table for the entire duration of our visit. The place was empty and we only saw two staff members on. One gentleman waited on us and he also prepared our meals. We ordered right away but he didn't return until he brought out our meals 45 minutes later. We were contemplating leaving as we were wracking our brains trying to figure out what the hold up was. When he returned he quickly placed our plates and was just as quick to leave before two of us had to request refills of our drinks - the first request did not prompt him to check with the rest of us. After he topped up the drinks - we did not see him again until he returned to clear our table. At which point we requested separate bills. He returned with one bill shortly after and advised "It was too late for him to separate the bills, you should have asked me sooner". We found his response was strange considering we did not have the opportunity to do this, nor did he ask us what our preference was.<br/>Food: Our meals were ok, certainly not worth returning for with service like that<br/>**Also, many dishes were crossed off the menu with marker, which we found strange and unprofessional. And they did not have a drink menu. When we requested one, our waiter brought out a ms word doc./print of what appeared to be their bartender's pricing chart for the various liquor they severed. Very strange.

Surprise!  The pizza here is actually very very tasty.  Everytime I have visited it has not been so busy so it has been a nice place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a delicious pizza.

First time here. I ordered the lemon zest and crack pepper five-star chicken wings and they tasted great! I must say, esp the size of the wings is better than lots of other restaurant. Order the rose bowl special and chicken pesto pizza. The cheese was yummy. There were only a few people there at Friday night and a good place to chat with friends.

This place really went downhill lately. We used to come visit Rosebowl at least twice a month before. Our last couple visits have been unpleasantly disappointing. The service is confused, the food just isn't the same.. Hopefully they will bring it back to how it was. The pizza was still good but the over all experience was quite... Bizzard and cold to say the least.

Caution to all... dread the dreadlocks.  He is capable of knocking you right out the door.  Be pretty, young and able to attract the flesh of many males, and you won't bruised or abused. The pizza is pretty darned good.

DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY!! We were told the food would be delivered in under an hour and then it took an hour and a half. When we called to find out why we got no explanation. So unless you have something to snack on while they take forever to make a 10" pizza DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY.
Jeff Fafard
Great hospitality. Love the pizza. <br/>Chef's mistake is the best!!!<br/><br/>Usually not that busy. Perfect if you have a group since they have a more private section.
Mercifulme
Not worth the price!. I picked up my pizza and brought it home to find it was poorly made. There were no toppings on about the outer 2 inch's all the way around......not acceptable for the price I paid! Ive recommended Rose bowl on many occasions but but never again!
Bailey Chou
Great pizza!!. Just went there yesterday. Pizza was fantastic. Will definitely come back again for more.<br/><br/>Was recommended the "Chef's Mistake" with extra sauce and no olives. Everyone needs to try this.
Jeffsod
Can't believe the rating. I can't believe how high the rating and reviews are for this place. The pizza was mediocre at best, I can't believe they charge $27 for it. There are many, many better options out there at that price.
Foooooood
Service is slow so be prepared to spend a good two hours here but man is it ever worth the wait! That sauce n crust can never be replaced honestly the best pizza ever! Always order the chefs mistake and the wonton shrimp. Please don't ever go out of business!!

Worst.Service.Ever.. My husband and I have always loved the pizza here. In the past we have had issues here with slow and poor service but this takes the cake. <br/>Got drinks and seated fairly quick, and the server that seated us was really nice. We ordered immediately. Then we got a new server (which we didn't see for half an hour) our one medium pizza took over an hour and forty five minutes. The place was not busy when we ordered. Many other people were sitting there without drinks or food for long periods of time. From what I saw there were 4 or 5 servers on and the place was half full. Usually the music is a decent volume, but today it was WAY too loud. I used the washroom and there was no toilet paper in ether stall. Dripping dry wasn't the worst part of this experience. As we were leaving there was a comedy night starting and the first thing that was said was something sexist. I don't think we'll be coming back. Try Regazzi instead for delicious Italian pizza and great service.

BEST PIZZA. Why haven't I been here before? Seriously? I've seen it. I've heard of it. I've walked by it, but never entered until last night. I went because a friend told me about poetry night, and I was curious about it. I heard about Rosebowl pizza being really good from someone who lived in the area and ordered it frequently. I was craving calamari but wanted to try their special pizza, so I was able to compromise and get a Satorini thin crust pizza. The toppings are fresh tomatoes, calamari, and shrimp with tzatziki and Spanish onions. It exceeded my expectations. Generous toppings, and a generous portion so I was able to pack it up for lunch today. They had a good selection for draft beer, and the service was friendly. I will definitely be bringing my friends back here for a chill night out. Oh and also I heard that the owners are opening up a 25 + crowd bar called BLVD. It is where PublicHouse was on jasper ave.

Worst service. Worst food. We will never step foot in rosebowl pizza again.

Not what it use to be.... I use to come to Rosebowl for my favorite pizza. This time I had the large half rose bowl special, half pesto chicken. The pizza took the usual hour to come out and I was starving by then. Within a couple bites, I realized that the pizza is not what it use to be. It was still doughy in the middle and the pizza was too soggy to even hold straight. I believe the oven was either not at the right temp or a new chef is in the kitchen. I was very disappointed. My new favorite pizza stop is zambelli's in the west end. Far but great pizza every time. Im very disappointed in Rose bowl and I will not be returning. The quality is just not the same anymore.
Nik
Yummmyyyyy!. Best pizza in edmonton! had the Rosebowl classic pizza and it was amazing!! Great food and even fantastic service
Ivy
We ordered 5 extra large pizzas, 4 out of the 5 were severely over cooked (extremely over baked burnt crust not just on the sides but underneath as well). $146.00 down the drain. We called and complained, nothing came of it. Needless to say We and our 20 guests will not order from them again.
MidnightCity
Best in the city. Been here twice and both times the pizza exceeded my expectations. Perfect crust and a generous amount of toppings. Highly recommended.
Kayleigh
So many toppings! Expensive, but very filling and tasty

Pizza of my dreams!!!. Was on a diet the last 6 weeks and was craving a pizza so bad i would dream about it. This pizza from rosebowl was the pizza from my dreams lol. Best pizza ever!!!! Never ordering anywhere else again!!! Rosebowl made my finding the best pizza in Edmonton conquest complete now I will be telling everyone i know to go here!!!! :-)
Burnt Toast
This place is on my 'must eat here' list whenever I visit Edmonton. The traditional pizzas have certainly stood the test of time and never disappoint with a nice crunchy, greasy crust and just the right amount if toppings. Their thin crust versions are pretty good too though I wish they would stop playing around with the menu trying a little too hard to class things up. A couple of years ago they had a Korean (I think) themed pizza that was to die for but seems to have vanished, sadly. Still, the pepperoni one we got was certainly worth eating. The beer available on tap is a bit disappointing but their patio is pleasant and the service gets no complaints from me. I'll keep coming back as long as they don't mess with their core pizza line up.

This place is simply put a chill place to go. There's music but not to loud that you can't talk. And daily specials as well as events. Derrick Anderson is awesome on Monday nights as well as the many people that come. Loved the skips. Can't wait till they come back. Tuesdays is poetry night, my favourite. And the special on their "best you'll ever have" thin crust pizza. Vegetarians. You must try the orient pizza. Simply amazing. Get extra arugula on it! Sooo good. If you like comedy and cheap wings come on Wednesday for FREE comedy night and half price wings. Like really can you get any better? And there's stuff the other nights but sadly I don't live upstairs or I would come every night. ;)<br/>Go check it out<br/>You'll be sorry if you don't!
Ramona
I come to the Rosebowl pretty often, started about 3 months ago and now I am hooked. I read other posts about if being dirty but I haven't seen this yet. As far as I am aware the management has changed and it definitely shows. Amazing pizza, bruschetta, and calamari!! I recommend going on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday for one of their specialty nights.

"Terrible service" How har.... "Terrible service" <br/>How hard is it to provide prompt and efficient customer service? i love the food and i would be more of frequent patron if management would hire competent servers and/or staff properly. I tell EVERYONE i know of the downside of this place. Get it together!
Twinklyone
Great Pizza. Really fantastic pizza. Get the standard crust - the thin crust is good but different. Unless you're up for something different. Anyway, I got the regular meat lovers pizza (not called that) and the thin crust seafood pizza. I LOVED them both. Price is high. And it takes basically 30 minutes to make. But I think it's well worth the wait.

I ordered the 16 incher. Every bite tasted fantastic. I heard so many great things about this place over the years. The crust has a great texture and is succulent. These guys are not cheap on the cheese either. Overall great experience.
Downtowners
Fantastic pizza. Prices are out of date though apparently so $10 pizza happy hour is really $12. Would make sense to charge the price on the menu.
Maria
Just like everyone else says, best pizza in town! Recommended this place to everyone I know!

Best Pizza for sure. We went to try it as we heard it was Great and must say i was impressed.<br/><br/>The service was pretty good once we found a place to sit. I am still not sure if you are to seat yourself or if they seat you as there was no offer to do so. We sort of had to walk in and out a few times until noticed.<br/><br/>The pizza was really , really , really good. <br/><br/>i was surprised to hear this place has been here forever as it appeared to be a trendy newly renovated place.<br/><br/>So for service i give it 7/10 for Food 10/10 and for overall value 8/10. <br/><br/>i will be back soon
Sandra
Best pizza In the city hands down! It was our first time eating there and we will be back. Great job on helping us choose our pizzas. Thank you

Simple over priced pizza.. I have been living in Oliver for 4 years and have walked and driven past the Rosebowl numerous time. I'm pretty sure the outside has been revamped since the time I moved here because the Image I had of this place is that it was a run down sort of pub. The new facing wasn't making me forget about what it used to look like<br/><br/>Anyways. They did a Groupon promotion so it was a great opportunity to finally check it out. They had 3-4 beers on tap and the selection was spot on. Big Rock Traditional Ale was on and they other few were half decent too. <br/><br/>Since their specialty is pizza that's what we ordered. I tried the Carne thin crust pizza. Retails at $16. It called for sausage, ham, bacon and maybe peperoni or some other cold cut... anyways I was expecting something pretty awesome. Well the whole thing was just one big salty meat pizza. The quality of the ingredients was sub-par for a price point of $16. The sausage was frozen small Chorizo sausage (kind of what you get in the breakfast burritos at McD). I was hoping for big chunks of sausage but that wasn't the case. Nothing special about the ham and bacon either. The only good thing about this thin pizza was the Crust. It was really thin and really crispy. Each slice of pizza would hold itself straight and made it a pleasant experience to hold with your hand. My partner had a veggie pizza and it was fine and definitely not as salty but nothing crazy about it.<br/><br/>We also tried the deep fried banana split. Once again we were disappointed by the quality of the food for a price of $11. The ice cream was just some cheap Neapolitan ice cream from which they had scooped one ball of each flavor. It wouldn't be hard to get a good and nice chocolate flavored ice cream for example. The whipped cream was fake and flavorless (definitely not made from real cream). The deep fried bananas were on the other hand the only thing that had put a twist to this classic recipe. The nice little batter around it added some crunchy to the soft bananas. <br/><br/>To make myself clear: We ate pretty much everything, we just wouldn't pay that much for a pizza that is on par with Pizza 73. Way to salty on mine. Maybe I just didn't luck out with the toppings but I'm pretty sure from judging by my experience and the price point of their food that this place is trying to look nice and provide an above average experience but they are failing by providing average or below average ingredients to maximize profits. <br/><br/>We may give it a try next summer to try their patio. That's about it. Who knows if we are really hungry then but burnt once, twice shy.

The waiter was high on something. Didn't write down our order and missed 1 of 3 meals

This place has really gone downhill. I was very impressed the first time and loved the pizzas. The next two times all five pizzas were burnt. The service was pitiful but thats not why we went there. Its really sad that such a place is getting worse. What a shame.
Angie
Excellent pizza!

My wife and I and a couple of friends walked by and decided to stop for a drink. We saw some food comming out to the tables and couldn't resist to try it. We though we were walking into a small neighborhood pub / pizza joint but we defenetly were wrong. Our waitress was serving us like if she actually cared!!! My wife who is the worst critic regarding service was hands down impress by the overall experience. We can not remember the last time we went to eat out and were 100 percent happy with everything. The pizza was nothing like a regular pizza. It took a while to come out but once it did we understood why! Will defenetly be back and I wish there would be one on the south side.

Chef's Mistake. 32+ year old recipe. The best. Onions, pepperoni, mozzarella, ham, green pepper, mushrooms, black olives, pineapple and bacon.

Delicious!. I used to eat at the Rose Bowl 30 years ago because it was the best Pizza in the city, and over the years I have ordered Pizza from there, and it was always delicious!<br/>I hadnt been for a few years, but yesterday I went with my daughter to pick up 3 New York Style pizzas. They were delicious!! Everyone was impressed! I will be back more frequently now!! <br/>Still the best pizza in the city!

A Keeper!. The wings were the best we've had in a long time, obviously more expensive than on a wing night, but well worth it. The pizza was excellent as well! lots of topping and yummy stringy cheese. So glad it's been reno'd, very nice atmosphere! we'll defiantly be going back!
Hungry BRC
Love the Pizza. I live in southern B.C. and I actually want to keep going back to Edmonton (haha), just so I can eat @ Rosebowl. The only thing that really annoys me is the fact that I have never had a pizza delivered in under 2 hours. Not kiddding. I usually stay on 103st, just off Jasper. How come it takes soooo long to get a pizza?
Daisy Blue 77
Pizza - custom toppings. Ordered pizza from Rose Bowl for the first time after hearing rave reviews. Picked up the pizza and took it home and it looked like it had been over done, the fresh mushrooms looked shriveled and over done, the entire top of the pizza did not look appetizing at all. I am disappointed that the management would send out a pizza that looked that way to a customer.<br/>Won't be going back!!
Kelly
Will never order chain pizza again!!. I was tired of ordering the big chain pizza's as they didn't have any ... heart. Toppings are getting less and less so I decided to try something new and researched Pizza restaurants in Edmonton. Rosebowl was listed in almost every search ranking I found so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did!! Lots of flavor in the crust, sauce, and plenty of toppings. Cooked to crunchy perfection. No delivery that I know of, but well worth the trip. I recommend to anyone to try it and see why they are rated highly amongst consumers.
Lee Turcotte
Been coming to rose bowl since I was a kid! Still the best pizza in city!
Crystal
After reading all the positive reviews, I decided to try the rose bowl for their "famous" pizza. Was pretty disappointed to say the least. The sauce tasted canned, and the cheese wasn't very good. The crust was pretty good. If you want tasty pizza, order from petes a pie pizzeria on the west end.
R.pailer
Mrs. Pailer. My family absolutley loves their pizza!! We drive from the west end just to have it!<br/>They have the best pizza sauce in the city not like the bland ketchup style sauces other restaurants have. <br/>Meat lovers and Rose Bowl Special are the two best pizza's.
Chubby Chicken
Great Pizza and Wings. I was impressed. The pizza is great, slow cooked and crunchy crust with lots of topping so it is very filling. The service was also great (thanks Kelly) though the place is looking a little run down. I would also recommend their wings, especially the salt and rouge. Be warned that the pizza takes a little while to come out, about 1/2 and hour, as it is slow cooked.
Melie
Dissapointed. I'm slightly mixed up on Rosebowl. Dirty cutlery was a uge turn off, dirty glass, even worse. Dismal service. But yet, the apetizers came around and they were so delicious I was expecting the most fabulous pizza to come a short while later. Well, I was wrong sadly, the pizza was very dissapointing. The sauce was too tangy, and the crust was so-so. The topings were amazing, especially the bacon, but would I return to this RIDICULOUSLY over-priced joint? No way....You cannot charge 24$ for a medium pizza, that's just being plain greedy, in most pizza places you can get huge pizzas like 16" for example, or even combos for 24$ or cheaper. <br/>Pretentious spot, pretentious prices for pretentious food that simply fell short....I wouldn't recommend to anyone. What also throws you off is the atmosphere of the restaurant, its Manhattan-ish high class lounge imitation doesn't match "pizza" place...
Mars
Disappointing. Worst restaurant in Edmonton. A bunch of my friends and I went to the Rose Bowl for my birthday. We were very disappointed. The food and service were not up to par. My friend got a burnt pizza, our waitress made lots of mistakes on our order even when we suggested she used her pad and pencil to write it down, and it wasn't the cleanest restaurant. My other friend had a dirty glass and I got a dirty fork. I would NOT recommend this joint.
GoodFoodMakesMeHappy
Rose Bowl has a new look, but same great pizza!. It's been a couple years since I was here, and the last time I was here it was honestly a dive, but still had awesome pizza. We went there recently for a birthday dinner and when I read the sign on the door that mentioned some sort of dress code... I thought "ha ha.... funny" and then I walked in and they sure spruced the place up. Everything is new and very chic. But fear not... the pizza is very delicious. It's been over a month since I was there, so I can't recall the menu, but I know they have new pizza choices that are more "exotic" when it comes to pizza, and their non-pizza menu had a lot of choices I thought I'd like to back another time to try. And as everyone else says... you do pay for the quality. But it's well worth it.<br/><br/>Will I go back? Absolutely!
Patrick
Best pizza in e-tizzle. Keep it simple straight cheese or peperoni. I don't know how they did it, nobody knows. Somehow they have caramelize the cheese. That's right candy cheese. I'm gonna pound a large and hybernate for the winter.
Bites
Great pizza. If you enjoy thick crunchy crust pizza with lots of topping, this is a great place to visit. I went there for my friend's b-day and we ordered a Chef's Mistake pizza. The pizza took 45 minutes to arrived. The long wait is because Rose Bowl's pizza are think crust with heavy toppings It needs to spend more time in the oven. When the pizza arrived. It tasted delicous. <br/><br/>Recently, my bf ordered the Mediterranean/ Chef's Mistake pizza for take out. I thought the pizza would turn soggy by the time he gets home. It turned out the crush remain cripsy, and tasted as good as dinning in. <br/><br/>I totally recommend this place to everyone.
FoodMonster
Great Pizza. I've been a Rose Bowl faithful for several years now. A couple things first off: unless you live nearby, don't get delivery, and if you do live nearby, pick it up anyways you bum :)<br/><br/>To be honest, this pizza is great. The crust is thick but not overly so. They take care when making your pizza and don't cook it in a hurry (expect the pizza to take 30-35 minutes even when they aren't busy). They simply choose to cook the pizza longer at a lower temperature, and the results are amazing.<br/><br/>The secret of course is all in the sauce. But don't be discouraged, all the toppings are fresh too. <br/><br/>Expect to pay a fair amount for the pizza though, it isn't your typical 2 for 1 Pizza73 grub. I always order the vegetarian and I can't say that I've found a better pizza in Edmonton (though from what I hear, Pizza Boys is amazing as well).<br/><br/>Bon Appétit!
Adrian
Rose Bowl has been a favorite of mine and almost everyone I've known that has had their pizza. The establishment has been renovated over the past couple of years, however the attention to their gourmet (thick crust) pizza still remains intact and second to none in the city. I recommend ordering your pizza with their spicy sauce. If you like thick crust pizza loaded with high quality toppings this place is worth the visit.
Jewlena
Rose Bowl. A long standing tradition in Edmonton. The secret is in the sauce...its flavorful, fresh and has such a nice zing.
Manan
I have only ever had their take out pizza at lunchtime. it is pretty good pizza with lots of toppings.<br/>of course with this kind of pizza and lots of toppings, it will end up a little heavy and somewhat greasy with all the meat.<br/>they seem very busy though, you need a relatively long lead time if you want pizza during the busy times. but if its busy, that must mean its good, right?<br/>i have had their takeout a couple of times and would get it again.
Anole
I wasn't blown away by most of the food, but the atmosphere they've created is conducive to a fun social outing, and I would return for drinks and the grilled raddichio again.

I always find it weird to think that this resto-lounge establishment is well known for it's Pizza!
