Review Crave Cupcakes - Edmonton

Jenny Nguyen
Ordered a dozen mini cupcakes through ubereats and received it in perfect condition. Everyone enjoyed the flavours and it wasn’t over the top sweet. The cake itself was moist and not dense or heavy and the cream was smooth, buttery and packed with flavour. Yum!

I ordered these for a friend who lives in the area and they arrived on-time and packaged so beautifully! Very reasonably priced for the quality of the product and the website's ordering system was simple. They even included my birthday note as requested. Highly recommend for making someone's day special!

The shop is adorable and the treats are always delicious! Whenever I bring Crave Cupcakes to an event, they're always a hit! Soooo good!

Went in yesterday because I've been craving these cupcakes for three weeks and they did not disappoint. They didn't have all their usual vanilla cake flavours available only some so we tried some different flavours and I think I found my new favourite cupcake. The Dirty Blonde Cupcake is absolutely scrumptious and delicious! I loved it!! Just proves that no matter what flavour you choose you will not regret it! Can't wait to come back for more!

I love Crave Cupcakes so much. I go here far to often and it’s always delicious. Red velvet is a definite favourite.

I'm Celiac, and recently went to several bakeries in Edmonton who made gluten-free (or gluten-friendly, a term I hate!) baking. I tried various g-f cupcakes from all of them. Crave only had one choice of cupcake - chocolate. It was a little disappointing that there was only one flavor, but I could pick my own icing. It was hands-down the best of everything I tried! The cupcake was very moist, where most of the others were dry. It tasted like an actual cupcake, instead of a cupcake-like product. The flavor was great - just the right amount of chocolate taste, and not too sweet. the cream cheese icing was really good - nice flavor and not sickeningly sweet like so many places make it. I don't know if they normally have different flavors available, or if different flavors can be ordered, but it would be great to try some others. I've found my spot for gluten-free baking!

My friend introduced me to this place. She cannot eat gluten and has ordered some of their cakes and cupcakes before for her birthday. I understand why they are a bit pricey, if you want them gluten free, or even the regular batches as they come in small batches I assume and are hand made daily. Compared to other cupcakes I've had over the years, these cupcakes are quite large in size and there is quite a lot of frosting on them. That and I don't taste the oil/fat while eating these which is quite pleasant because it isn't very nice to consume something when all you can taste is the fat they used. The cupcakes, and cakes, are also quite attractive to look at an the icing isn't overly sweet. The people that work there are also quite pleasant every time I have been there.

My family and I have been ordering and coming to this location for over 6 years. The cupcakes mini or regular are always delicious. The cookies are great as well. My younger cousin got a cake here one time as well and it was extremely well done and very tasty. Highly recommend this Crave!!

We had our wedding in the Edmonton area. We had ordered our cupcakes and wedding cake several weeks in advance. When my friends went to pick up the wedding cake and cupcakes they did not have a wedding cake ready for us. We will be calling Crave to find out why they f'd our order up.

Bought my dad's birthday cake here yesterday, it was amazing. Cake was moist and decorated beautifully. I expected to eat several slices but it was so rich I ended up calling it after one piece haha. Only downside was the price ($40), but I would definitely buy another.

Crave makes the best gluten free cupcakes and cakes in the city- by a wide margin. Light, fluffy, and sweet, you can share a cake with friends and family who don't suffer from celiac disease and they are none the wiser.

I recommend this charming little bakery to everyone!

This place is not bad... but I prefer Fuss Cupcakes. I have to say though the Nutty Over Chocolate IS a must try!

Good for a sweet tooth.. I tried Crave for the first time a few days ago, then I sampled more of their cupcakes today (Lemon-Lime Twist, Crave-O-Licious, Nutty Over Chocolate, The Princess Chocolate, Red Velvet Elvis, and the Lemon Meringue). They were all good, and I liked in particular that they weren't TOO sweet. I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking to satisfy their *craving* for sweets.

Awesome! Best cupcakes ever! I'm not a fan of buttercream icing, but theirs is amazing.

Amazing!. Easily the best cupcakes around! a bit pricey but so delicious.

Best cupcakes in town. I used to drive down to Calgary before there was one here. I use to think Fuss was the best until I tried these. Highly recommend.

These cupcakes are okay, but nothing memorable or amazing. I did enjoy my little cake, but prefer the flavours and taste of those offered at Flirt, personally. That said, this is a cute little shop, staff were friendly, and I certainly wouldn't turn down a cupcake from here in the future! My favourite was just the plain vanilla offering.

Delicious! Was very happy to discover they serve gluten-free cupcakes. The employees are a bit unfriendly at the location on whyte in Edmonton, but totally worth it nonetheless.

Crave is the best in Edmonton, no contest. The others don't compare, though Fuss and Flirt are a good second. Crave bake moist cake and they do the buttercream right - and the cupcakes are pretty for gifting, and the staff are pleasant!

By far the best cupcakes in Edmonton out of the many boutique cupcake stores (Fuss, Flirt, Big City, Delish). Good assortment of favors and I find their quality is consistent whenever I visit. The mint chocolate is my favorite. I also like that they offer mini cupcakes. The cake is soft, moist and not too sweet. I have paid full price as well as used a Voucher for them when they first opened a shop in Edmonton. I also like Crave the most out of Calgary's cupcake shops too.

Good flavours. Tried a bunch of flavours - Crave-O-Licious (very moist and delicious despite the blue icing), Nutty Over Chocolate, Red Velvet Elvis (delicious icing and good red velvet cupcake base), Lemon Lime Twist (very refreshing), Peppy Pattie - they were all good. Wish there are more locations in Edmonton.

Cupcake tour 2011. Please note that this review relates to several cupcake establishments in Edmonton. I would have liked to do a general entry to cover all of them, but Urbanspoon doesn't support such an activity.

My best friend Amanda and I decided it might be fun to do a walking cupcake tour of the city! The tour started downtown where we tried the cake bites at Starbucks. They were an interesting little amuse bouche to get the day started! We walked across the river to Whimsical Cupcakes. They had the most adorable little store that I have ever seen! The cupcakes were proudly on display. Thankfully they offered mini cupcakes so we were able to try a few. I had the "smartie pants" and the "New Yorker". The smartie pants was a basic vanilla cake with a chocolate buttercream icing and smarties on top while the New Yorker was a mocha inspired creation. The cakes were delightful! However, I was not partial to the icing. It was way too heavy (even on the minis) and had a greasy texture to it. I know it's hard to get buttercream right, but this was not for me.

Next was Fuss cupcakes. It was not my first time going there. I had a similar experience as with Whimsical. I ordered "The Don", a marble cupcake with tiramisu buttercream icing. I removed about two thirds of the icing, because I had the same issues, too heavy and too much butter. But once I did, it was a wonderful texture and full of flavor!

Our third stop was at Flirt cupcakes. We shared the "Sweet Georgia Brown" (they have the best names). We were disappointed that they didn't offer mini cupcakes. We were starting to get full at this point. But I LOVED this cupcake. The icing was much lighter, the cake was still wondeful and best of all, it came with a teddy graham cookie on top! Doesn't get much more adorable than that!

Our last stop (and by far my favorite) was Crave. I will continue to go there as long as they are open. I am a sucker for the "Red Velvet Elvis" cupcake. The whoopie pies are a lovely treat as well! But because we were so full of cake and couldn't handle anymore icing, we each got one mini "mini donut" cupcake. It tastes just like a mini donut, but without being deep-fried! And it doesn't have icing, which we really needed.

If you are interested in doing such a tour, I have some recommendations:

1) Only get mini cupcakes. You will be sorry otherwise.
2) Find a longer walking route than we did. I thought we would be walking for a few hours, but even with a break that we took in the middle, we were done in 2 hours and feeling a bit sick from all the sugar.
3) have a long lunch break . A tour like this is best done on a nice summer day where you can spend the whole day walking and touring. A long lunch break in the middle will give you a chance to eat something more nutritious and recharge your body.

Have fun!

These are THE best cupcakes in the city, anyone who feels they are too sugary or too sweet obviously hates sugar and shouldn't be in a cupcake store to start with! All their ingredients are fresh and it really comes through in the cupcakes. My favorite is the strawberry frosting because it has real strawberries! But my ultimate favorite is the dirty blonde, the chocolate is perfect with the yellow cake!:) I reccomend this place to everyone!

BEST cupcakes!. Moist, delicious and beautifully prepared. The store is immaculate and the staff are polite and know their product. I highly recommend this store!

Great cup cakes!. Always a good spot to visit in Kensington in Calgary, finally we don't have to drive 3 hours and the cup cakes are as good if not better! Try the peanut butter/chocolate but leave one for me!

It's a sugar overload! Their cupcakes taste like nothing but the overly sweet icing they're topped with. Their mini cupcakes taste like nothing at all (even the coconut tastes bland). Waste of money, never going back.

Sweet tooth. Was in the area today and remembered today was Crave's grand opening ! Popped in and was surprised to see only 1 person in there.. I suppose it was close to closing time though... The layout of it is very cute ! First thing I noticed was that these are a tad cheaper then other places.. I remember going to Fuss and it was $8 something for 2.. Here I got 2 regular size ($2.95ea) and two minis ($1.75ea) . And it came to $9 something. Anyways ! Being a hater of the buttermilk I stuck with my best friend cream cheese icing.. I got the Dark Angel ( Chocolate cake w/ cream cheese icing) in a regular and a Velvet Elvis (Red velvet w cream cheese icing) in mini. First bite of the dark angel, it was a flavor explosion! The cake melted in my mouth along with the EXTREMELY sweet icing. Now my teeth didn't hate me for it surprisingly ! But the sweetness is a lot to take in. It was pretty hard to eat the whole thing at once so I only took two bites so I could try the other. Velvet elvis was a different experience on its own. The only way I can describe the taste was that I was eating the sun covered in lolipops. No joke. And with being the mini it was just perfect for sweetness. No overdose, no shaking while driving etc etc. So for those of you with a super sweet tooth I would suggest this place ! And with those of you that don't.. stick to the minis ! They're awesome !

Sugar buzzed. If you like sugar icings, this place is way better than flirt or fuss. Fuss I think is purely shortening, flirt's cakes are lacking and this place has a great cake and icing combo.

I still prefer real buttercream offered at Whimsical, but if I want the sugary stuff, this place is a close 2nd!

Too bad there's no where to sit though.

So Happy It's In Edmonton!. Their cupcakes are gigantic! The great thing about them though is they are really light for their massive size!

Our first contender is Crave Cookies and Cupcakes . We visited their new Edmonton location, just south of Whyte Ave on 104th St. This is their sixth location in three cities so they must be doing something right!
Gluten Free Edmonton
Yes, yes they do! I have to admit, we haven't tried them, but Crave Cupcakes did contact us to tell us that they do carry gluten free 6" cakes now as well as their gluten free cupcakes.
Gluten Free Edmonton
Crave Cupcakes have gluten free chocolate cupcakes! I stopped in there (Gateway Blvd) yesterday around 11am - they had just come out of the oven and were cooling. They only had 5 left (one was already put on hold) so I took the rest and because they weren't iced yet, I got to choose my icing! Right now they're only making a 1/2 dozen a day until they get more demand but it's nice to be able to either walk in and buy one or two cupcakes rather than having to pre-order a dozen when really you only want a taste! I've been a huge fan of Crave since they opened in Calgary many years ago and I'd often make road trips to Calgary just to get some (Nutty Over Chocolate and the Peppy Patty are my faves!) And when I figured out what was making me feeling sick and pain all the time, I was upset to know that I'd never have another Crave cup

The remainder of the cupcake stores suffered from a myriad of problems, including dry/too dense/too sweet/lacking flavour cupcakes, overly sweet/oily/hard/over powering icings, unidentifiable and strange after tastes to name a few. In essence, the cupcake became nothing more than a vehicle for the icing.

Crave Cupcakes retains the title of The Best Cupcakes I Have Ever Eaten while adding the distinction of Number One Purveyor of Cupcakes in Edmonton.

A few weekends ago, we hit up the Gluten Free Cravings Food Fair in Sherwood Park. I had missed out on last year's fair because by the time I heard about it, it was already said and done. While a small percentage of the population is truly tested and gluten intolerant, there's lots of folks that choose to eat gluten free by choice. I was excited to go this year as I have a few friends that have Celiac Disease and I wanted to see the tasty renditions local businesses were able to invent. In the past, gluten free food was either extremely bland, lumpy, flat, or made you think you were chewing on cardboard.... luckily, we've gone a long way from that! Disclaimer: SP Cravings had kindly invited us and given us a few sampling tickets to boot, so on a sunny Sunday afternoon, we headed off with our camera and empty tummies. Thoughts and opinions on food as always are our own. The venue was a bit on the small side for a family orientated food fair with many booth crammed into the hall th

I love Crave and have always made sure to stop by their store whenever I pass through Calgary. Their cupcakes are gigantic! The great thing about them though is they are really light for their massive size! The cake itself is fluffy and perfectly moist, while their buttercream is soft, not too sweet, but oh so delicious. And the ratio of icing to cake is perfect my tastes. They're simple, but really well made and definitely give you that home baked cupcake feeling.

I was on my way to grocery shopping at Planet Organic when I came across a cute little cupcake shop called Crave. The logo is a black-and-white drawing of a lady holding a giant cupcake which is very similar in concept to the logo of Bell's Bake Shop in Vancouver. Retro ladies must be a common theme in the cupcake world. The display was clean and simple with a variety of cupcakes ($3.25 each) atop white platters and racks of freshly baked cupcakes in the back. I brought home a red velvet and a seasonal flavour of chocolate cake with cappuccino icing. Both were delicious! Moist and fluffy This is the second cupcake shop I've been to in Edmonton, the first being Once Upon a Cupcake which was my most horrible cupcake experience ever. I have yet to try other options, but I think Crave will remain a favourite.
