Review Red Goose Restaurant - Edmonton

Dan C
Whenever I feel like getting brunch, on a day off, I order from the more popular/well known places in the area but today I decided to Google places for brunch near me and Red Goose showed up. I had never seen it before so took a look at the menu, pics and decided to check it out. They had exactly the type of breakfast that I was craving, everything in it was great. The owner or manager is friendly and great service, the place is like stepping into the past, quite cool actually. Definitely will visit again.

Happy day! You will always have a happy day when you dine at Red Goose. The owners are expedient and friendly. The food is consistent, the prices are affordable, and you can tell they really care about their customers by the photographs of their regulars on the walls. No wonder they have been around for 30+ years.

This place is legit. I came with my partner and toddler and had the best time. The decor is like you walked into an 80-year-old Ruth's home, and it really gives a comfortable, quirky, and homey feel. The service was unbelievable; the owner really goes out of the way to make you smile, including using some of the decor (Toy Story toys) and playing with my kid. Would definitely come back!

Happy day!! Me and my partner visited for the first time today and had the most pleasant experience of our lives. The waiter was the kindest man I've ever met and our food and drinks were extremely tasty. To be honest, if I was to come back for a second time, it would be to experience such love again!

Took my mom and dad here for Father’s Day and it did not disappoint! It was an excellent, simple breakfast. The service was fast and friendly and the owner/server was so so pleasant and fun! We all agree we will definitely be back! Thanks for the wonderful morning!

One of my favourite places to eat breakfast with pals. It's a gift to live near this place. Just started exploring lunch menu and I have to say the beef bulgogi is the best one I've had in the city. Best atmosphere and service. Mr. Lee for mayor!

My experience is similar to the others I read here. The owner is very friendly and service is prompt. We had a toddler with us and the owner brought out a nice plastic plate 🍽 for her. We all ordered the same variation of the standard breakfast. He got all the orders right and gave the bigger guys an extra sausage so that nobody would leave hungry. The menu is simple so it's easy to decide what you want. Prices were very reasonable just under $8.00 for each plate. The coffee was kind of on the weak side but my cup never became empty as he made sure that it was frequently topped off. You don't come to a place like this for fine coffee anyway. It's a classic diner with top notch service so if that is what you are looking for and you appreciate good value, you'll like it here. If you want to be amazed by a chef's unique creation you might want to look elsewhere. It's a great place to take kids and there is a working jutebox.

2 bad experiences at this place. Don't know who the new owners are but customer service has gone way downhill and the food is mediocre at best. First time it took forever to get the food and was average. The second time 2 other tables came in and had their orders taken. I never did get to submit my order because after 20 minutes of watching the host walk around and do everything else except take my order, I left.

This is a place out of time. Wonderful old wood paneling and vinyl red seats. Fabulous traditional diner. Owned by a Korean couple. Always "Happy Day!" I love it!

I guess a lot of people review if the food is great or awful.. well in an effort to be fair. I found this place to be just OK. . Great service.. not so good food.. really expensive actually. Way more than the $ it's listed as on here.

The people who own it are amazing! We drove out of our way to find a new breakfast spot and this will definitely be at the top of the list when we want some bacon and eggs or omelettes!

Really solid dive-y diner. The staff is super friendly and the food is excellent considering almost every menu option is under $10. Definitely spring for the hotcakes. They're huge.

This is a great little dive. Run by an Asian couple. They make you feel very welcome and say hi and bye including fist bumps. Love it! The hash browns and bacon and eggs are delicious. The hot cakes were missing flavour and fluffiness. Overall I really enjoyed myself here for brunch!

Lied too by present reviews. This restaurant has a very high rating. I am not certain on what it is based. We had breakfast one time. It was fine but nothing to get to excited about.
We returned because we saw beef bulgogi on the menu. It was a poor example of this marvellous Korean dish. There was plenty of rice with a small amount of vegetables included and near to non existent amount or beef. Probably less than an ounce of beef cut up in 1/4 inch pieces sprinkled on the top. At 12 dollars there should have been more substance.

Back To BASICS. In an ever complicated rushed world.(paticularly in the food indusrty everyone is after the the hot trend).
This place takes you back small town simplicity basics at its finest. When i go here i feel as though life just got a little less complicated and more simplified basic. You cant get that my friends.

Good simple basics food done right. Great service. Fair Prices. (throw in some good basic korean food as added bonus)

We found this little gem through Urban Spoon and it was quite the find. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but the inside is definitely like stepping into your grandma's kitchen. The decor is straight out of the 60s but the service is amazing. We were greeted so warmly by who we assumed is the owner and he stopped to chat with us before quickly grabbing our coffees. His postlitive attitude was infectious and it set the tone for a wonderful experience.
Once our order was taken, the food arrived quickly and it was nice and hot. It was a great breakfast with the owner or his son popping by to chat about our day or checking to see that we had everything we needed. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. If and when I'm back in Edmonton, I definitely plan on stopping in again.

Freaking awesome decor....don't have the breakfast stuff though!. The red vinyl booth seats are to die for. Very nice people who run it! But I had the worst eggs, bacon and coffee breakfast there, ever....even worse than those bad cafes you stop at, unknowingly, to have breakfast on the Interstate somewhere in Montana. However, after looking at other reviews, maybe I'll try something else, because I love the décor a lot. I won't give up on the Red Vinyl Café just yet ;)

This restaurant is still very much open. Urban spoon needs to correct this!

Lunch. Nice place, you feel like you are transported to a small Alberta town resturant when you enter the doors. Nice Korean couple run the place. I had the Bul-go-gi. was good. Would go again.

A true classic. Upon first glance, you may only notice the outdated wood panelling on the walls and the well-weathered benches, but do not be fooled. The Red Goose is a haven tucked away in a small neighbourhood strip mall, serving hot fresh coffee that never ends, simple and delicious breakfast and lunch plates that are ready moments after you order, and always a genuine and heartfelt cheerful greeting. Whether you're meeting up with grandma or nursing an all day hangover, the Goose is the perfect place to get away from a world of rushed service and over-priced plates made for people who watch too much Food Network.
The Goose helps us to slow down. Have that fourth cup of coffee. Sit and laugh in those weathered seats, and leave rested, bellies full of hot cakes and bacon, to go back to the world to have a very "Happy Day".

P.S. if you're there for lunch and Wonton soup is the soup of the day, just do it. So good.

Neighborhood Staple. One of the only things I miss about not living in the area any longer is saturday breakfast at the goose.

Great food, perfect diner that hasn't changed in ages because it doesn't need to. Great prices. Friendliest staff ever.

I was just browsing around urbanspoon and felt complelled to leave some props even though it's been a couple years since I've bene there.

Small Town Restaurant. Went for lunch, and had the Deluxe Mushroom Burger. Mushrooms were fresh, bun was perfectly fried, and the patty was tasty. The whole experience reminded me of eating in small town diners, even down the to decor. The owner is so friendly, and immensely happy to see everyone, quoting the restaurant's slogan "Happy Day". He even tried to play a trick on me (tap the opposite shoulder) when delivering my meal! Definitely a great place to eat if you're looking for some good food.

Neighborhood Dive (In a good way). I love dives, don't let the term or title fool you. My goal is to hunt down all dives possible to find those hidden gems. When I address a place as a dive, it's earned its place. If I meant it in a bad way, I have several other terms to "endear" as.

I grew up in this neighborhood. Red Goose has been around for as long as I can remember. I never went there until the current owners took over. When they took over the morning rush sure bustled. Every table is full. Locals & ex-pats of the neighborhood who come back for the service. It's a family-run business. Mom runs the grill (And, boy, does she!), Pop is front of the house (Always with a smile & a thank-you - go there, you'll see what I mean) & during summer session their kids pop in to help bus tables & take orders.

Go for the breakfasts. Your order shows up at your table almost as fast as you finish ordering it. If you have coffee your cup is always full.

The food is standard/average, nothing spectacular, but you come back here for the fantastic service (I haven't been here in years but when I see them at a grocery store they remember me, wave & tell me to come back soon) & you definitely can't argue with the breakfast prices.

A Community Restaurant. Buried in an older strip mall in Hazeldean is the Red Goose. Nothing fancy just good home style cooking delivered fresh and hot to the table. I have only been there for breakfast. The menu covers all the basics.
Service was quick and friendly, coffee never ran dry, and the bill was more than reasonable.
