Review The Captain's Boil - Edmonton

Interesting idea for a restaurant, but needs to be implemented better. Price should account for type of food, effort to cook food, amount of food, presentation of food, among many other factors. The food, I believe, is simply boiled then shaken in a plastic bag with sauce and served. It doesn’t take much effort to serve the food they’re giving, and the price/ambience is not fair to customers. What I’m trying to get at, is you get similar if not better prices at Red Lobster and they go through much more prep to make your food. I understand this is your theme, but it just doesn’t seem worth how much you’re asking for. Another issue we had was the ‘famous’ seafood fried rice. There were barely any shrimp, the scallops were minced much too small (therefore we didn’t get very much), and the rest was just rice. For $17?? I liked the taste but $17 for some seasoned parboiled rice and 3 pieces of shrimp is a rip off to put it nicely. We ordered shrimp and my wife was put off by the head still attached and skin on. While I understand this is how they naturally are in the ocean, it would be nice to have the option of having your shrimp served peeled. I ended up peeling the shrimp for her and with it, all the flavour of the sauce it was shaken in. I mean it was $22, is the option to have my food prepped the way I like it too much to ask for? I was really looking forward to this place because family in Toronto has told me much about it, but I won’t be wasting my money here anymore. Good luck with your business and hope you can re-evaluate your prices. 👍🏾

Had a fun time here! I don’t really like seafood much but I got the headless shrimp and it was delicious. But it is pricey especially for something I could have made easily at home for half the price. Fun for an occasion though!

I'm really mixed on how to write this review. On one hand, we enjoyed ourselves as we laughed at how ridiculous the meal was compared to what we'd been expecting. So in that case it was fun. We visited for our wedding anniversary before a movie out. We struggled a bit with understanding how to order from the menu, with no help or direction from staff, and we ended up ordering far too much food even though on the menu it seemed like that's what you would order for two people. So keep that in mind when you are ordering. We choose options for the mateys boil (two flavours of shrimp). As others have said, we were shocked when the food arrived in large plastic bags and was dumped unceremoniously on the table. No plates, no utensils, two plastic spoons were left for (I'm assuming?) the rice. Even the three side dishes came all together in a plastic bag (we ordered potatoes but they were literally just cut in half - so I guess you eat them like an apple?). The food was ok. There was some deep fried shrimps that were amazing. There was no way we could eat it all, and since it cost over 100.00 we had to drive home to drop the left overs in the fridge before the movie. I guess we can make soup tomorrow? We're going to laugh about this for a while, but I don't think we will be going back. I'm not sure why cutting so many corners is a thing there. Honestly I would have been much happier with a plate, cutlery, and maybe a quick how to order guide or video so I understood what we were getting into.

The food was not cooked very well, we ordered shrimp boil and everything was overcooked. When we tried to peel the shrimp it all turned to mush and the flavor was terrible. Also the portions are very little compared to what they charge; 10$ for a handful of fries that were soggy and flavorless. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

honestly, extremely disappointing. unflavoured, small portions, quite bland. was pricey, our king crab tasted off so we only had one bite and had to stop ($78..). our sever was very nice. didn’t do a quality check to see if we liked/didn’t like, so we paid for food we didn’t even eat.

Took my daughter here and we had so much fun eating with our gloved hands. The food was messy but AMAZING! Can't wait to go back.

We wanted a different place to celebrate some milestones (other then The Keg) and decided to give this place a go. We were so surprised and extremely happy we did! Unique, fun experience, nothing we have had before which made the celebration memorable and special. I had the king crab and my husband had the lobster. the servers were so friendly and service topped the night off. It was awesome!

We had supper and it was very disappointing. They only serve beer and soft drinks. (They also have taps for draft but no draft) The appetizers came out staggered and we asked that we finish our appetizers before our meal came... that didn’t happen. Our meal side dish was served with the appetizers so we sent it back to be “kept warm”. Our meals came out in plastic bags (odd but ok), we had to request plates for the rice, forks and knives, salt/pepper and butter. The waitress had to be flagged for every request. We didn’t get another beer without requesting and waiting... once our meal was done the table was never cleared and after sitting for 15-20 minuets waiting for someone to come we flagged someone to get the bill. After waiting another 10 minutes someone brought the bill. All this time there was a line up at the door waiting... we won’t go again. 3 people, 7 beer and the meal was over $300. Of note we went early for dinner at 5:30 so there was no wait but when we ordered the cook came out and warned that there were only 3 lobster left-we just ordered 1 so that left 2 for an evening of customers. Better customer service could have saved this meal!

Always very impressed whenever I visit this place. The food is great! My favorite is the snow crab legs in captain’s boil sauce. Super friendly staff and owner. Very clean place, washrooms always clean (not very many places are like this). This is a place to visit when in Edmonton. I always bring friends and family form out of town and they always leave very very very satisfied. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thank you and more power to you guys!

Went for dinner last night. Asked for a MINOR modification to the sauce and the manager was AWFUL! Didn't even consider the request for a split second. It was just "nope! We can't do that and besides; you won't even like it anyways!". I'll pretty sure I can be the judge of what I'll like or not like. Our server was great but I can't imagine having a manager like that representing my business like that!

A must-try seafood place for all Edmontonians! Food was yummy! :)

This isn’t so much a review of the food as a review of the customer service. Put our name on the list for a table, were told an hour, waited an hour and a half and were told it would still be longer and we should have come earlier to put our name on the list.

$26 for 16 small crawfish is just absurd. I understand that Edmonton is landlocked and that it's expensive for supply of seafood coming here and of course as a restaurant you wanna make a profit. But don't give us over cooked crawfish for 26 dollars a pound.
