Review Sorrentino's West - Edmonton

Shreya Gautam
I waited to write this review until I had been here a few times. My boss loves Sorrentino's and he gave out gift cards to here for Christmas so I went and tried. Their food is DIVINE! The gift card got used up pretty quickly because it is on the more expensive side but it is so worth it. So many vegetarian options and they all taste sooooo good. So far I have tried their funghi misti pizza, roasted cauliflower (it's creamy and delicious), sorrentino salad (the red wine vinaigrette is to die for and the ingredients were so fresh), mushroom risotto, ricotta ravioli (probably the best ravioli I've had at a restaurant), penne arrabiatte with mushrooms instead of sausage (my favourite), and the panna cotta for dessert. My mouth is watering just writing this review and remembering how good every single thing tasted. The setting is classy and cozy. I love the dim lighting. The tables are a little too close together in my opinion, but I try and get and get a booth every time. The service is impeccable as well. 10/10 for ambiance overall. Strongly recommend going here.

We had a delightful evening dining at this restaurant. Our server, Rafat, was pleasant, engaging and attentive. He introduced us to Vassilev, a young lady who left Ukraine and found a home with an Edmonton lady who opened her home to her. She was job shadowing. Kudos to to everyone assisting her make a new life here. Back to the meal. Unsure what wine we wanted, Rafat asked what we like and he brought 3 samples. We really wanted to go Italian, however of the 3, we found the Argentinian red the smoothest. I ordered the lasagna, it was excellent. It had the right amount of meat and pasta, the sauce was perfect. The spaghetti carbonara and the salmon and shrimp meals were equally delicious. Overall, it was a lovely evening out. I only have one minor critique, the two specials, both contained seafood. I think offering one seafood and one non seafood item would be better.

Had a last minute dinner out and enjoyed my mushroom bruschetta and Veal. The staffs are amazing Mido suggested a good old excellent food and my favorite sauvignon blanc. I really liked it. The service is fast and I can see a happy guests dining in this restaurant. If you want a delicious yet fresh dinner. Sorrentino’s West is a good try.

My fiancé and I had our first date at Sorrentino's Downtown and have loved the chain ever since. ♥ Have been visiting the West location recently and have loved every single dish we've tried. This chain has the best Italian food in the city! ♥ Dishes pictured: Photo #1: burrata salad, arancini, and bruschetta; Photo #2: close-up of burrata salad ("burratina e pomodorini"); Photo #3: a pasta special with lobster, rose sauce, & cognac; the spaghetti carbonara.

With Sorrentino's being a local Italian favorite, I fully expected my taste buds to be transported to a state of Italian euphoria but instead they ended up in what seemed like my very own kitchen. That's not to say the food was bad because let's be honest, I could ruin cereal, BUT it was just okay - nothing to write home about. I had the Linguine Pescatore which was stated as one of their most popular dishes, but was disappointed with the result. There wasn't much flavor to it and I felt like it was just linguine with some garlic milk poured over it. Essentially, I was catfished by this dish but that being said, this is my opinion and apparently lots of people do enjoy the food so just like what this dish could have used, take this with a grain of salt (A-Yoooo). But I digress... The cauliflower starter was OK but once again, nothing you couldn't do at home with a head of cauliflower and some cheese. I expected more with the reputation this place holds. That being said, the service was spectacular despite the volume of clients they were serving that day. And the dessert was phenomenal - it was a carrot cheesecake infused with caramel chunks with caramel dripping over it. It was a feature dessert so it may not be available when you go but by far, the best tasting dish I had there. I probably wouldn't go back for the food but for the service and ambiance - sure. TL;DR - Food was meh, service was yeh, would I recommend? Myeh?

Been to sorrentinos west a few times, while the staff and atmosphere are nice, food quality can be a hit or miss. The patio is tented so even on a cloudy day you can sit outside and enjoy some fresh air. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit with a classy finish. We ordered pollo portofino, beef lasanga, and linguine pescatore. The beef lasanga was bland and had little to no flavour. The pollo portofino was well made and infused with rich flavours however the prosciutto was very salty and it overpowered most of the dish. The linguine pescatore was delicious, pasta was perfect and there was a nice balance of spice. Online reservations were very easy to make and the waitor brought us a surprise dessert on the house since we were celebrating a special occasion. Some of the food however cannot be remade because its sent in a package from their supplier which leaves little room for alterations. Not sure if I will be returning in the future.

What a fantastic night! Dinner was amazing. The last time I visited this place was 20 years ago and it’s a good as I remember. The waiter was attentive and introduced us to Carmelo the owner. He shared a bit of history of Sorrentino’s and a wonderful drink to celebrate a special night for me and my partner. I highly recommend this place.

Great service. Tasty appetizers and delicious meals.

We ordered sorrentinos for delivery through skip the dishes. My husband ordered a lasagna and it came child size. They should change the name to 5 bite $24 lasagna. I called the restaurant thinking they must have made a mistake and sent me a kids one. The manager was rude and didn't care. The food was tasteless and I bet I would have better luck buying a frozen entree at There are so many better places out there than this. We paid $60 for our meal and will now be ordering pizza because we are still starving. With the quality of food and service, I would be surprised to see it still opened in a year.
good service. good food. fresh ingredients.
It was Garlic fest so there were many tasty dishes to choose from. Started with a chest roasted cauliflower and then dined on a shrimp in marinara sauce. Topped with garlic too! Well worth it!

Those so good and the service is the beta we have had in a long time. Jolene amazing! They happily accommodated some dietary requests and I loved the meal so so much!!!!!!

Excellent service tonight and the food was equally good as well. Went the extra mile for our friends birthday party! It was a great experience for all.
I went to this location to pick up takeout and I waited for a staff member inside. The phone rang at the desk and the manager appeared and answered the phone. As I waited for him to finish his call, a caucasian family entered the restaurant and waited behind me. Several minutes later, the manager set down the phone, walked right past me and loudly greeted that family. He proceeded to start a conversation with them about how their day was, how the kids are, etc. Then he led them to their table. He did not return and I was still left in the waiting area. Eventually the hostess came and I paid for and got my takeout. I am confused as to why the manager decided to accommodate the caucasian family (I am asian) when I was very clearly waiting there first. He did not ask to see what I needed. What if I came in also looking for a table? If he does not deal with takeout orders he could have simply said "someone will be right with you".

Every Christmas, my family's company spends a large amount on Sorrentino's gift cards for our clients and this is how the manager treats his ethnic customers? We will no longer be purchasing gift cards as the manager lacks the ability to effectively and professionally manage this location.

Ok, so I will be honest. I don't think Sorrentino's food is all that, however, it is tasty and hits the spot when you are looking for some italian. A friend and I decided to partake in the Garlic Festival last night at this location, and I am really glad that we did. Not just because we both looove garlic, but because the service was fantastic! From the gentleman who greeted us and showed us to our table (I am pretty sure he was a floor Manager) to our waitress and even the chef/cook who brought out our food. They were all so personable and attentive. They seemed to really enjoy their job which made us really enjoy our dining experience. I would go back just for the service alone! ...oh yeah, and the garlic themed dishes were yummy! I'd recommend the garlic braised beef ravioli :)

Venue: Lovely dining room. Classy and intimate with a good variety of seating options.
Staff: Polished. Very impressed with the staff here. They were all well mannered, attentive and you could tell a more traditional serving standard was in place. It was very refreshing.
Food: We all enjoyed our entries. You could tell all the ingredients are fresh and the dishes are made from scratch. We finished by sharing a slice of their famous tiramisu.

Good meal and good service. I was dining with a large group and we were seated in the private dining room in the back.
It was great that they had wine at 25% off that night and we picked a red and a white that were perfect for the price.
Service was excellent. All our food for the group arrived at relatively the same time and was all done as we had ordered. I had the veal Marsala and while the flavors were good the sauce could have been more intensely flavoured. Not that it was bland or unbalanced but I prefer a little more intense marsala flavor.
Desert was good. If there is tiramisu on the menu I must order it. While a lot of places scrimp on the mascarpone and tend to replace it with whipped cream or other ingredients. Not here. the only thing I missed was intense espresso flavor as there was not enough for my tastes.

AMAZING. Sorrentino's is the best Italian restaurant(s) in Edmonton by far. Excellent food, top notch service, and my wife and I only waited about 20 minutes for our table, in which the restaurant looked full. Some people may think the prices are high, but I believed they were pretty good for the quality of food we got. We will definitely be eating there again.

Worst Anniversary dining experience in 37 years! Possibly worst restaurant experience EVER!. We chose Sorrentino's West for our anniversary dinner because we were in Edmonton for the weekend and staying in the west end. We have had wonderful experiences at the main location, as well as at the cafes on the north and south side. Also, allow me to preface this by saying I'm NOT that picky. I waitressed my way through school many years ago, and as long as service is decent, and food is okay, I'm not a complainer. This was the biggest dining mistake we've ever made! We had reservations, and were originally seated at a cramped little table for 2 directly behind a large table of patrons, with almost no room to move. I asked if we could move to the other table for 2 behind it, as it had more room. We ordered drinks, mine being a pina colada that took too long to arrive, and when it did, it had separated and would not re-blend even when stirred. I tasted it and it was somewhat bitter. I flagged down our waitress, who had seemed quite nonchalant and a bit rude when we first sat down, but I'd ignored it. Bad mistake. She said "Yeah, our pina coladas aren't very good...it must be the mix". I ordered a strawberry daiquiri, and that was only marginally better. They then served us bread, which was far too salty by any standard I can imagine. I didn't complain, and sat and waited....and waited for my soup. It was the soup of the day, and was a potato and leek, that should have been lovely. Instead, it was seriously over-reduced, with the consistency of slightly watered-down Elmer's glue. It's never a good thing when you can draw your spoon through your soup and it remains parted like the Red Sea. The waitress returned, rolled her eyes at me and took the soup away. She came back while the manager was at our table asking what the problem was. I very politely started to tell him, when she interrupted and said "She doesn't like anything this evening. Her drink, her bread, her soup...", before flouncing off. The manager asked what the problem was and I politely told him that the drink had separated and tasted slightly bitter. He said "that's the first I've heard of that", with no apology. I told him the bread had been quite fresh, but that it was too salty for OUR tastebuds, and that I thought that the only thing wrong with the soup was that it may have been a bit over-reduced. He then just walked off without another word. Our entrees arrived several minutes later. I had the veal cannelloni in the white wine mushroom sauce and my husband had the fettuccini Bolognese. The first turn off was the fact that the veal was not so much resting in a sauce as much as drowning in it. Also, when you have to literally PEEL the cannelloni off the bottom of the plate in order to eat it, well it has a tendency to kill your appetite. Add to that the fact that you couldn't taste even a hint of wine, and the veal was so incredibly bland as to be non-existent, it makes for three bites of your dinner and DONE! As for my husband, he was sitting across from me and after he took the first bite he started to frown and looked really perplexed. I asked him what the problem was, and he replied that there was no meat in the sauce, and that it was completely flavor-less. He said he'd had better tasting sauce come out of a can from the grocery store. I tasted it and his description was completely correct. We put our forks down and waited to speak to our waitress. She was at a table behind us, laughing with the people there, and all of a sudden we heard her say "not like THEM", point at us in a way she thought was discreet, and 3 if the 4 people turned right around to look at us! We asked for the bill......twice, and it arrived 15 minutes later. When she came with the bill I told her that I was really disappointed that we had had such an awful experience, and that it may have been the worst one we've ever had in going out for our anniversary.....she responded by saying that "you are the most unhappy person I've ever waited on"!!! I was flabbergasted. I then told her she was something that rhymed with a "witch", all very quietly of course, and walked out having paid over $65.00 for a lousy daiquiri, and two horrible meals that we'd had 3 bites of. I told the manager what I thought of both the food and the service as I was leaving, and he just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. My husband and I have travelled all over Europe, the Carribbean and the US, and I have never had an experience as horrible as this was! Our 37th wedding anniversary dinner was completely ruined, and I didn't stop shaking after we left for about an hour. I urge anyone and everyone to avoid this restaurant like the plague! I will be contacting their head office tomorrow morning to tell them what happened. A chain is only as strong as their weakest link, and this link is disintegrating at an astounding rate. Their head office needs to know that.

We went here for date night. My boyfriend got the sea food
Pasta, which was delicious. I got
The veal cannaloni which was absolutely amazing. The bruschetta was so good as well. We did not think it was over priced at all. They took money off our bill for the bit of a wait but we didn't
Mind at all, considering how busy it was. We will be back.

Overpriced for the quality of food. We travel and dine out frequently. We chose Sorrentino's primarily for the location. We both ordered fish; Salmon and Halibut. Both overcooked and tough. Halibut was very strong tasting. Sauce unappealing. Spaghetti was bland. Virtually no no veggies on plate, stray mushy cherry tomatoes. $30 each entree. We were hungry, so we made do. Who really wants to complain and wait again? Get it right the first time! We won't be back. There are many better choices in the west end.

The food was very good. I had the roasted garlic and the macaroni and cheese. The roasted garlic was okay.. The garlic lacked flavour and sweetness. The mac and cheese was excellent. The pork tenderloin was outstanding. The wait staff was fine. Ask for Fabio as your waiter, he is excellent.

It has been a couple years since we have been here and will be a couple more before we ever come back. Portions were small and the food was not good. I got talked out of Steak to have the $30 piece of prime rib which was mainly fat and chewy. The waiter asked how the food was and I told him. No apology or concern for our poor meal. I highly recommend this as a pass.

Food is ok, Service is terrible. We came from Stony Plain to Callingwood last night because we were given a gift card to Sorrentino's and after reading the reviews, the west end location got the best reviews so we gave it a try.

First of all they sat us right next to the door and I was instantly displeased with that. The most important reason is because I could clearly see that our waiter's section was primarily the top corner and we were quite far from where he was buzzing around. I knew we'd be his last thought.
I couldn't have been more correct. The waiter came to our table 3 times. He took our orders, he brought our food and he brought our bill. Each time he came to the table he said he was so sorry ( Sorry the drinks took to long, sorry the food took so long, sorry I didn't bring your bill sooner ).
The food took forever.....easily 35-40 minutes. It was ok. We all had pasta dishes and didn't expect to be wowed because...it's a chain place and whatever...as long as its ok I'm generally happy. And it was just ok.

From the time the last of us finished it was 20 minutes until we got our bill and we had to find someone to ask if we could please have our bill. Then once we finally got the bill the manager in training said, " Ok, well goodbye. " and we were like....umm, may we pay please? The manager finally came over and took our payment. He asked how our evening was and I said ok. He asked if there was a problem and I answered that the food was ok but our service was terrible. I said that we waited 20 minutes for our bill after waiting almost 40 minutes for our food. He said, " Oh, sorry. " Yeah, we got a lot of sorries tonight.

Sadly, will not be returning. The ambiance is beautiful and we really loved the lighting. Too bad the service was so poor.

Would not rush back. Visited Sorrentinos West tonight with my wife. We have not been for some time so we decided to go to the Garlic Festival. I am not a compulsive complainer so you need to know for me to complain it takes a lot.
We had called earlier so they knew we were coming. Our evening started by being seated at a table that was so Cold my right shoulder and leg froze. I had to put on my winter coat and cover my leg with my wifes coat.
The pricing of the menu is what I would consider high for a resturaunt that has not changed in 20 years. A glass of starting wine 10.00 a glass?
My meal Mammas lasagna was good, my wife ordered a half order and the server neglected to tell her that the charge would be 3/4 s of the price for a 1/2 order?
We had originally went for the Garlic festival but did not order from the Garlic menu as nothing really appealed to us, oh well.
Service 5 out of 10
I held my comments to my wife but when we were leaving she said I WON'T RUSH BACK to which I replied I feel the same.
Sorry Sorrentinos West but for the dollar spend there are a lot of west end resturaunts that have you hands down.
Thats o/k I am sure the locals to your resturaunt will keep coming and paying what you feel is fair for your product.
Thank you

Incredible Food & Excellent Service. We go to Sorrentino's West End (& St. Albert) several times a year & especially for special occasions. The food is absolutely amazing!!! The cheese meatballs appetizer is the best we've ever eaten - a January special but can be made year long by asking for the meatballs in a cheese sauce. The caesar's salad is wonderful. My wife special orders by having chicken with the marsalla sauce which is incredible! The steak is always cooked to perfection, tender and delicious. The salmon is fantastic. The service is excellent and we love sitting near one of the two fireplaces. Our family and friends also enjoy the gluten-free pasta. The tiramisu is heavenly. We highly recommend Sorrentino's West End ( & St. Albert) for the perfect meal and service.

Somewhat disappointed!. Last night a group of us chose Sorrentino's West location to enjoy a meal. Indeed that's what we got! The food was delicious. The only downside, was the service was poor. Would we go again? That would be given some serious thought whether or not we would want to leave frustrated again....

Mi paborito. This is my favorite restaurant! I always have the calamari, Fruti de Mare or Linguine Pescatore, and Pollo Aoili pizza! The best italian resto in town!
EricK
Overrated. Meatballs were decent, cannelloni bland and overcooked. Dining area is sufficiently trendy but the washrooms are awful, in appearance and perceived cleanliness. Pricey for the atmosphere and quality. Good service from our main waitress, spotty elsewhere. This experience certainly didn't live up to the Sorrentinos reputation, come on guys!

Almost the worst Italian food and wine experience. Overall the service, ambiance and food all rated well below average.

Service: A reservation is for two things 1; to save a table and 2; to ensure that you're not at the kitchen or bathroom door. We were seated where we looked right into the kitchen and I kept being hit by people walking by me. The waiter did not greet us for 10 minutes. We were not served bread til the end of our second course when I asked for it. Just because it's red wine it is still not to be served near the boiling point. We had to continually ask for our wine because it wasn't on our table it was taken elsewhere to be chilled. We were served the wrong order.

Ambiance: The tables were wobbly, the place settings were paper. It was loud especially with the noise from the kitchen. This setting is at a restaurant where the pasta dishes averaged $20.00 with secondi plates into the $30.00 range.

Food: Saved the best for last, the salad was overpowered with salt with absolutely no presentation. The sautéed calamari that we had to ask twice for was good ( the only good of the evening) The main pasta tasted like chef boy r dee and had as much presentation as being dumped on the plate out of the can.

If you like true Italian food avoid this restaurant at all costs-it is nothing similar to the real thing!

Busy Place, Good Food. Service: Staff are friendly and prompt. On the few times I have asked a question about the menu they have proved knowledgeable.

Wait time: They can get quite busy, so unless you are a table of two arriving at a non peak time I would expect a wait. I believe they take reservations however, so if arriving with a larger group it is probably a prudent choice.

Price: A tad expensive, but not overly so. As with most restaurants, it's the wine that can add up quickly. The food seems reasonably priced.

Food: Very Good. The seafood pasta in a white wine sauce has always been an excellent choice, and every appetizer has been fresh and flavorful. Appetizers can be a tad small, but main courses have always been adequate for me.

Always good. We don't live far from Sorrentino's and have eaten here a few times and probably should come more often. We have always had a wonderful meal and wonderful service here. I am not much of a pasta person and usually order a fish dish and it has always been wonderfully prepared. We usually bring our kids, and with the wide variety of pasta, pizza and main dishes, there is something for everyone. The last time we were there, the four of us really enjoyed the antipasto platter as an appetizer. We haven't gone during garlic festival, but I think that will be on our list this year.

Sorrentinos west was a lot better than their 99st location. Waiter was nice and we got a nice booth. Food was good but the portions in my opinion are weak.. $16 for lasagna and i get one small slice? I also had the tiramisu for dessert... again good food.. but for $9.. it was way too small.

Overall a good place to go eat.. just don't expect to get proper portions for what you pay. Also washrooms are not what you would expect from a place like this.. old and run down.

Favorite italian resturant... I love the Tagloionii no longer on the menu but oh my They can still make it if you ask... If you like Smoked salmon this is youur dish!!!

Excellent!. Awesome service and food. Good gluten free options. I don't like their summer menu much, but of course the main dinner menu is still there. Slightly pricey but portions are large and it's good quality food!

Good Italian. Fairly good Italian. Their menu has stayed pretty constant over time but the eats are good. The only problem I have found is food preparation is quite slow sometimes and for the price it is sometimes frustrating. But On the whole I enjoy it

Overall Sorrentino’s has a lovely atmosphere and lovely food.
Brett Konsorada
When we arrived we were pretty hungry, they were roasting garlic in the ovens, and the aroma made our mouthes water even more.

Pizza the second is simple: sauce, proscuitto, cheese. That's it. Nothing else is needed and that's the way it should be. The thin but not floppy crust stands up to these toppings with ease. I would have crisped up the proscuitto a bit and not layered the slices, but still, this is an immensely enjoyable pizza.

On my last night in Edmonton, I went out for dinner with the family at Sorrentino's in the West End. It was garlic festival at Sorrentino's!! The garlic menu was way more appealing to me, compared to the regular menu~ I
