We had the garlic shrimp rolls, Pad Thai with chicken and prawns, and pad ped mee with chicken and prawns. The pad Thai here is insanely good. Was a long wait, but understandable for a Saturday evening. We will for sure be eating here again. Soon.
It was our first visit to this Thai restaurant and it was very difficult to find as the light for the sign was burnt out. Most dishes priced between $17.95 and $18.95. We had a coconut chicken soup that was good along with Pad Thai, chicken fried rice, and some crispy chicken. Ordered green tea but got a different tea bag instead. Service was a little slow but friendly.
Long wait to get a table , longer wait to get the food went with my infant and it took almost 45 min (longest 45 mins of my lifeš)to sit but the was delicious as always thts the only reason to return back
A followup review of this restaurant. First off, the food is still extremely tasty, as it was on my last visit. Second, still not very good service; slow, no follow up, and never so much as a smile from staff. Third, although prices are up, the meal ingredient amount has dropped dramatically. Tom Kha used to have mushrooms that filled the bowl, Pad Thai used to fill the dish used, not even close now. Curries still have full bowls, but the bowls seem to be far smaller now. What used to set these sister restaurants from other Thai ones, was the bit better flavor of most dishes, better prices, but mainly that they gave a bit larger portions. Sadly that has changed, so will probably go back to a closer restaurant that serves similar meals.

We were told that we should try Syphay out and that their food is really good, well I'm so happy we did. EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious. Oh and that sticky rice dessert is amazing, for sure a must try.
Service was good and fast even though the restaurant was packed. I think the decor was nice lol was to busy with the great food in front of me to notice much of my surroundings.
Will definetly be back. :D
A hidden gem! The best Thai food in Edmonton. Only if fault is they are not open on Sundays :( Great service and they often offer Groupon deals.
I freaking love this place. The mangos were perfectly ripe, and the overall dessert was the right amount of sweet.
The pad siew was the best I've ever eaten! And they didn't skimp out on the seafood at all!
Overall, I'll be back when I'm ever in Edmonton again!
Tohm yum, Garlic Shrimp Rolls, and Lunch Special (Salās Best Lunch Special Award 2017)
Long time customer, first time reviewer. Iāve had a lot of items from the menu but my faves are usually the tohm yum, pad thai, or lunch special. Tohm yum is a hot and sour soup consisting of mushrooms, lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime leaves. I usually get it with chicken, but donāt be scared to add in that basa fish. Itās not pho but this soup is damn good. Garlic shrimp rolls were a good appetizer as well, usually for appetizers we get gai tod (deep fried curry chicken) which is bomb but we switched it up and it was still dope AF. The main and usual thing I order during lunch is the lunch special which is a choice of spring roll (meat or veg), curry (red, green, yellow), and rice (coconut or steamed). Iām all about that āmeat spring roll, really spicy green curry and coconut riceā lifestyle. If you aināt with me, then go get the pad thai, cause that is also delicious here as well.
There is no escaping the deliciousness that is Syphay with the downtown and southside locations. Quick and friendly service is a major key as this is the best Thai/Lao food you can get in #yeg. Believe me.

I went to Syphay for dinner the other night had a very pleasant experience. We had ordered the syphay platter, the tohm yum soup, pad thai, the Gang-Keauy (green curry) with basa fish, and the pad curry seafood (yellow curry). The Tohm Yum soup was alright. It was a bit salty and only had mushrooms and meat you chose (tofu, shrimp, chicken) so it was a little underwhelming. As for the pad thai and curries, they were delicious. There was plenty of food and everything was seasoned well. The atmosphere of the restaurant was good as it was more private and intimate. The servers were very nice as well. Would come here again!
Lets summarize or get to the point. A rating of 4.5. And the most important point which is, yes...I would definitely return.
The Tom Yum soup did a dance on the taste buds. Maybe the best on the planet, BUT there's not much of anything within the soup base, mind you. Mushrooms, etc, but the taste was sensational. Other dish was the highly recommended Gang-Keauy (green curry) (spicy) and it didn't disappoint. The downside was the quantity appreciably did not fit the price.
It is so nice to walk out of a restaurant in this city and feel happy and knowing you will return. That's Rare.
A few weeks ago I went to Syphay with a few friends. We had the groupon, and decided to go for some Thai food and have a games night. Thai food is one of my favourite cuisines. I love curries, spicy, and fragrant foods, and Syphay is one of my favourite places in Edmonton to go for Thai food. The name āSyphay comes from the owners, Sye, and Phay Sayaphet. They run both the South location and the Downtown location, along with their three daughters. They are the definitely of a family-owned restaurant!
We will use any excuse to go to Syphay. The servers are friendly and helpful when you don't know what to order. The food arrives quickly, is delicious, well presented and flavourful. We are working through the menu but keep coming back to the green curry as our favourite.
It still boggles my mind how many good Thai places there are in town. Syphay, with two locations isĀ doing quite well for themselves. Iāve been to the OG spot before and while that locationĀ may look like a shack from the outside, the food is legit. Well, having never been to the downtown location before, a Groupon popped up and what better way to try it than to save some moola at the same time.
Food was great. Very fresh and tasty. There was something on the menu for everyone in terms of spicy tolerance. Service was amazing and efficient. Will definitely come back here in the future!
I think I have just found my favourite Thai and Laos restaurant in Edmonton. Ā The portion size and price range is about the same as the other expensive Thai restaurants but there's something about this location that makes it stand out from the rest. Ā First of all, it was quiet and the service was attentive. Ā Second, the food had real taste to them. It was soulful. Ā I felt like I was an honoured guest at a top restaurant in Thailand. Ā It felt great. Ā The food was spicy when it was supposed to be spicy and all the flavours just fell into place wherever it was needed. Ā I felt the harmony dancing in my mouth and I loved every bite of it. Ā Truly excellent restaurant. Ā I seriously don't remember liking the south side location at all but this downtown location just nailed it without trying all that hard.
Ordered their Padthai for pickup and was quite pleased! A very generous portion, but for $17.95 I guess it should be. I have eaten a lot of Padthai in my day and this is up there amoung the best. It had a good spice as well.
Exact same menu as South location, bigger and nicer inside and outside and never have to wait for a table!. If you have ever been to the South location (on Calgary trail) you will know it is SUPER busy on weekends and some evenings. Fortunately they opened a second location downtown! It is not busy at all yet because not too many people know about it but it is just as delicious as the South location, only closer and therefore more convenient to get there from my house! It is also decorated really nice inside. :)
A MUST TRY- you will become a regular for sure!
LOVE this spot! One of the best restaurants in the city! Order the Basa Fish, it's amazing!! The mango sticky rice was so nice, too! And pad Thai is a classic we order every time. Thank you for the amazing food and warm service!
Amazing service and friendly staff! This place was recommended to us by a friend. We liked the food and the portions are definitely more than enough. I gave 4/5 just because the place was a little chilly, and because of that, the food got cold quickly.
Amazing service and great atmosphere! The food here is amazing. As close to Thailand as I've had in Edmonton for sure. A bit pricey but the portions are pretty big. Overall amazing experience here.
This restaurant emulates culture and flavour with every dish. I ordered the Syphay Platter, Phanang Curry with Beef, Spicy Pad Thai, and Khao Pad Mun Poo Fried Rice. Everything last item was delicious and authentic tasting.
The syphay platter was an extremely great value for the price. The Pad Thai and curry were both rich in flavour. My favourite dish was the Khao Pad Mun Poo, I kid you not this was probably some of the best fried rice Iāve had in my life! Like these lot arenāt even stingy with the chicken and shrimps!! It was giving ALL it needed to gave.. as per, I was craving it for weeks after. So much so, that a week later I ordered some from the Calgary Trail location via SkipTheDishes... but unfortunately it did not compare to what I had at the Jasper Ave location, and the fried rice I received was quite different in appearance and flavour.
Also, there were 2-3 dishes I wanted to order off the menu but was informed they were unavailable, so that was a bit of a bummer.
But I can still honestly say this is one of the best Thai restaurants Iāve ever been to! If you are craving Thai food, would like to try a new cultural cuisine, or even just want a solid dinner - I highly recommend Syphay š¤¤
I love their food so much, I will definitely go back! Sometime they have Groupon deals and the price is amazing!
Always delivers great flavour that will leave you satisfied everytime! The gong krateum with squid and green curry are a must and I look forwards to trying more menu items like the pad Thai and papaya salad next. One improvement I would like to see is in portioning, I got a seafood curry dish and it was supposed to come with scallops but we only got 1 scallopā¦ chopped into two pieces. For the price more is to be expected. Also the rice prices are kind of preposterous, being Asian myself Iām shocked they are so much for a bowl lol.

Get a dessert if the food was too spicy to you. Coconut rice matches with the curry.
Went on Tuesday 26 October 2021. We ordered Pineapple Fried Rice, Beef Larb, and Phuket Seafood Soup with White Jasmine Rice. It was all absolutely delicious although the Larb needed some more Fish Sauce and Lime, our waitress Jia or Gia (idk how spell her name) went above and beyond and brought us some Fish Sauce and Lime to really make the Larb extremely delicious, the sauce then tasted so good I poured the leftover sauce into my plate. Iām Thai btw and the Pineapple Fried Rice tasted like authentic Thai fried rice and the Phuket Seafood Soup with coconut milk base tasted like flowers. There was no fishy sea smell in the soup just great texture! I canāt comment too much on the Phuket Soup because my date ordered it!
Edit: ALMOST forgot to mention the Thai Iced Tea! Itās great!
