Awesome donuts. Honestly the best I've ever had. Place is always clean. The owner is very nice and friendly. I started coming here before living on this side of the city. Nothing bad about this place. Love their cookies too.
On a recent rainy Sunday afternoon, my boyfriend and I needed an afternoon pick-me-up, so decided to try Take 5 – a classic, old school coffee and donut shop. Remember those? (Tim Horton’s does not count). I vaguely do and honestly thought they only existed in small towns and on Gasoline Alley, don’t tell me you don’t get excited every time you see the Donut Mill when you pass through Red Deer. Luckily I was wrong, they do exist, and they are just as wonderful as I remembered them to be.
It is located on 118 Street and is practically an institution in the Beverly neighborhood. Like most things on 118 Street, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. This place is really a hidden gem. The staff are friendly, prices are very reasonable, there is lots of tables to sit and parking is easy.
The donuts speak for themselves. They have a wonderful selection with everything from traditional glazed donuts to more interesting ones such as Dulce de Leche. I had the Cream Supreme (chocolate glaze with whip cream filling) and would highly recommend it. My boyfriend had the coconut one and also loved it.
Donuts aside, they also offer other baked goods, as well as sandwiches, soups and subs, if you would like to make a meal out of it.
If Take 5 is not yet on your list of places to visit, it should be. You will not be disappointed.
I love this place. The donuts are fantastic, I've never been disappointed by them. Even the simple honey glazed is incredible--fluffy, pillowy, sweet, toothsome--everything you want it to be.
Legit real coffee shop here. Homemade fluffy LIGHT doughnuts (Tim Hortons should be ashamed), cinnamon buns, eclairs etc. A real gem in the world of chains.
Plus the owner is a kind soul. Will return again many a time for its nostalgic, no nonsense 1980s Edmonton vibe. Plus I want to try all the varieties (there must be 50!) of doughnuts. Please don't change :)
Restaurant owner is a man named Leon. Just a beauty of a guy. Was looking for some doughnuts one day and was sick of Tim Hortons and came across this place. From the sandwiches to tarts to basically anything its pretty legit. Great person so it's easy to come back.
It’s been awhile since my last visit to Take Five (see here). I’m pretty sure this is old man paradise. There’s a soup, donut and coffee deal for $4.99. A little throwback to old school prices. There’s a couple menu boards hanging up. Sandwiches and soups to start. More subs and salads.
I have heard good things about this place. Was on my way to get gas for my car and decided to stop here to check this place out. I ordered half a dozen donuts plus a french cruller. Small little coffee joint that serves up amazing donuts! I really enjoyed the cream supreme donut as I believe this is a favorite among others as well. The people behind the counter is so friendly! Would definitely be back to try other items.
Take 5 is what you would consider a real diamond in the rough. Located in the Beverly neighbourhood on notorious 118 Avenue, it's a humble coffee shop that has become, for many years, a local gathering place for its community. Everything about it is quintessential old school. The decor is dated and the patrons are as diverse as they are interesting. Based on first impressions, you wouldn't expect them to be serving up some of the best donuts in town. Yet, they do.
Time warp. Simple utilitarian decor. Mostly geriatric old-stock clientele (at least on weekends). Low prices. Fast no-nonsense service.
And........ excellent donuts and other pastries.
A slice of Canadian prairies........ circa 1980s (check it out and enjoy)!
Sorry Timmy's, you can't be compared to Take Five. Take Five looks like your average little coffee shop located in the Beverly neighborhood, on the east side of Edmonton. It's quiet and small and what I would call a hidden gem. Their food is amazingly cheap. What's even more amazing? THEIR DONUTS. You can tell that their donuts are freshly made in-house. There are so many options to choose from and they also have mini donut holes. Along with donuts, Take Five serves sandwiches, soups, chili, oven baked goods, and hot drinks.
Just stopped in based on reviews- had it in my mind that it would be more like a bakery than a coffee shop, but I was not disappointed by the quality. Donuts are amazing- and the size reminds you of 'back in the day' sizes. At any rate, I will be back for sure- the walnut crueller and maple are clear standouts.
Best donuts in the city. Forget Timmies-- Take Five's donuts are the best. Actually fresh, not glazed into a diabetic coma, and the apple fritter has real chunks of apple!
Pleasantly surprised! I live in Beverly and have to confess I drive by this shop for years and didn't think to stop by; the outside isn't much to look at but the food and the feel of the place inside are great. And yeah the doughnuts are the BEST I have had in town.
Favorite treat in Edmonton. I absolutely love their donuts. My favorite is the strawberry turnover. I have been going every weekend with my family for about two months now. Great place.
I would like to add that the soups and sandwiches are great as well. The coffee could use some work tho... it's actually quite bad, just tastes like warm water with cream and sugar.
I Love This Little Coffee Shop, Everything from the Donuts to the Sandwhiches. I have never once walked out of this shop thinking anything else other than I love it! Even at 11 pm close to closing their donuts are so soft and fresh and amazingly good, I would take them over Tim's any day of the week!!
Could be the best Donuts in Edmonton.. I'll preface the following with a warning. This little place is dead center in the middle of sketchville. Parking is directly outside and visible from the inside. I'd recommend going during the day.
The buildings kind of old, the clientele is almost entirely 60+, the area is shady. But I kid you not, their in-house donuts are worth the trip. 100%. Literally drove about 80 blocks out of the way to get there. Worth it. Fully.
Got a Chili/Biscuit/Donut/Coffee (swapped that for a water) for $6.20. Beat that stupid garbage Tim Hortons. The Chili was kick ass, biscuit was biscuity (that a word? Doesn't matter), grabbed a Dulce De Leche (Still can't pronounce that) Filled chocolate glazed donut. Wow. Those are a problem.
Other things of note were a Cheese Crescent that could easily be the best in town, and up there with the likes Duchess, Bliss, and The Italian Market. A Strawberry Turnover was there and made me pray for a swift death it was so good. Choco glaze on top, whipped cream/strawberry in the middle. Was as big as a large first.
Prices were from 1992. Box of 45 Donut Holes for $5.00. Large Coffee was $1.90. Dozen Donuts for $8.50. Yes the dozen is current priced and more than the chain places, but these are in house and from scratch. So good.
It's out of the way, and in a rough part of town, but wow is it good.
Love this place!! Reminds me of when I was little going to neighborhood coffee shop. Very old school. Drove across the city to check this place out, well worth the drive! Friendly staff, amazing doughnuts!!!! Bought the special 1/2 dozen. The Black Forest and dulce de leche were great!
Wow donuts!. All of the donuts are so good! Great flavours and variety. The coffee is also decent. I love the real cream filled ones. The donut holes have nice texture and flavour. My favourite donut is the Dulce de leche! Try it! You won't regret it.
Donut Heaven. I don't like donuts. I LOVE THE DONUTS HERE. Enough said.
This place really needs more credit than it ever receives. The best donuts that arealallys fresh. Great sandwiches. Chili always available with daily alternating soups. Biscuits, eclairs, pies all different kinds! A very old school vibe, if wanting old classic 50s coffee shop this is the perfect place.
I first visited this place in 2004 when a good friend of was doing some landscape work in Beverly and I was downtown. He called me and asked to meet up at this place that had a great selection of donuts. Awesome! I have been a happy customer ever since, big selection of donuts that you can't even find at Tims. Plus, their donuts are made fresh in store and the owner has been a baker for over 30 years. They seem to have a loyal customer base, a lot of older people who live in the area. In my opinion, this place is Edmonton's best kept secret. Since 2004, I have stopped in here over 100 times, and every time the pastries and service was excellent.
The sandwiches are really good too! (though the donut was super yum!) Had super fresh bread, nice green lettuce, nice tomato.... Overall, I would go back!
Tried Take Five out for the first time today. Was impressed with the selections and the donuts were super fresh. The service was mediocre, like we were not supposed to be there. Would go back because the donuts are worth it.
Awesomeness. Love the whipped cream filled donuts. Love all the doughnuts actually. WAY better than Timmies. I signed up to US just to post this because Take 5 is so awesome. Next time I go there I plan to get the special (doughnut, coffee, sandwich and soup for $6.99).
P.S. very friendly staff.
Great classic donut joint. The place is classic, seams like its been there forever.
Great donuts. They always have one of my fav; Chocolate dip with real whip cream filling.
I'm going to try the pie next time!
Second home. This is a neighbourhood coffee sandwhich shop done RIGHT!
just perfect!
Amazing Donuts!. If you want delicious donuts, this is the place for you. The donuts are super fresh, not greasy and extremely tasty. Too bad the location isn't more central... but this place is definitely worth the trip and don't be afraid to take more home with you!
Good fresh homemade food . Awesome donuts ...Tim H . You don't stand a chance
Nice place, good donuts, big selection, open late and cheap.
Great. I have gone here a few times over the years to grab what have to be the best doughnuts in Edmonton. They bake everything themselves, even their tasty lemon meringue pie.
If you are near this place definitely drop in, its even worth driving out of ones way for.
Definitely my favorite coffee shop! Food is always fresh and yummy! Service is absolutely excellent!
Take 5 is a hidden gem! I come here once a week cause where else can you go that opens early and closes late for your random donut cravings? Doesn’t matter what time you go, the donuts are delicious, fresh, and soft yet not too sweet and heavy like other places in the city. There’s tons of unique flavours and variety to choose from and price is unbeatable!
Yumm!
The donuts are easily a 10/10. I work just down the road from this place and sadly don’t have time to stop in enough. The homemade subs are one of my favorite things to grab for lunch in the area.
Delicious doughnuts with extremely kind owners.
My wife and I decided to go with a doughnut tower instead of a traditional wedding cake for our reception, so we of course had to go with Take 5. The doughnuts were a big hit with our guests, with many asking where we got them. Of the 8 dozen we ordered, only 6 were leftover by the end.
We also had a small mixup with the order payment--I had pre-paid for the order, but my friend who picked up the order was charged upon pickup. Once we realized the error and informed the shop, the owner worked tirelessly to fix the error by confirming my information, checking his books, then refunding the money. The process took a couple days, but he was courteous and in constant communication with me the entire time. The mistake could have happened anywhere, but the way he fixed the error was what really impressed me.
I will continue to be a customer of Take 5 long into my now-married days.
I love donuts. A freshly served donut, both the traditional cake and popular yeast style. No aftertastes!...only the 'taste' for another one. This place has a comfortable feel. The staff are solid, they know the product and can answer questions. The patrons seem happy and satisfied. Lastly, it's part of a business complex, parking is easily found in the lot, or on the street.
My wife had taken the kids for a play date, so what’s a guy to do? Completing chores, knocking off home improvement projects and self improvement were options, but all wrong options this day. The correct answer was to drive across the city for donuts, obviously.
A bit of a drive from the west end of the city, but nothing compared to a drive to the Donut Mill on Gasoline Alley. It was a cute spot with helpful staff. The selection of donuts was impressive, but payment options were limited. Debit or cash only, which is a minor deal. What business wants to pay 2 to 3% to a credit card processor if you don’t have to, right?
In the end, the donuts were very tasty and received thumbs up from the Peanut Gallery at home. It’s nice to see a local business going strong in Old Town Beverly.
Owner is the sweetest man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Very soft spoken yet kind and polite, as are any of his staff.
Always clean anytime I've gone there. Even in wet, dingy weather they do their darnedest to keep up with what keeps getting tracked inside.
You want a reasonably priced and yummy quick lunch, or a mid day snack? Then you absolutely must stop here. If you don't, you are missing out.
Always told myself I needed to check out this place finally went after 5 year. If you're a donut lover this is the place to go. Everything is freshly made that day. Purchased the cruller, specialty cinnamon bun and apple fritter they definitely weren't drenched in sugar. Had the perfect amount of sweetness. Support these small local businesses you'll be shocked on what you missed out on.
Delicious food and friendly staff! This is a Beverly staple for sure and folks travel from across the city to try their legendary food! Highly recommend!
