Deluxe Rice Noodle Soup, Spring Rolls, Pagolac Combination on Rice and Vermicelli, Salad Rolls, avocado smoothie
#SoupSeason continues with Pagolac. The Deluxe soup is good stuff. Not only is it pretty big, it has tons of slices of beef with a good broth. Perfect for hangovers. Always order the spring rolls here cause they thick and filled with lots of meat. The Pagolac Combination is also a favorite here, just look at how big those meatballs are. It’s got grilled pork, spring rolls, and meatballs. I prefer the vermicelli version cause dumping the fish sauce into the bowl makes the last bites better. Salad rolls here are ok, still prefer the spring rolls cause they are so damn tasty here. Homie also copped that avocado smoothie to cool your body down from all the hot soup.
Pagolac has for a long time been a great spot for pho. They have 2 locations and I prefer the southside one over the Chinatown one. The southside’s interior is really old looking and it seems like Bruce Lee could jump out of the kitchen and fight someone at anytime. Pretty cool imo. They also have a lounge that is perfect for sunday morning NFL watching. Service is friendly and although prices are a little bit high, it’s still good for the amount you get.

The go to spot for pho, rice dishes or vermicelli bowls on the south side of Edmonton. Dishes are well priced, great tasting and good value. A wide variety of dishes to suit all your cravings. Save room for deep fried ice cream.

A tucked away hidden gem of a restaurant that has amazing vermicelli and other great Vietnamese dishes.
This is truly a hidden gem among restaurants and I am glad I ate here.
Had the Satay soup and the broth had a lot of different ingredients. Vegetables, ETC. That's something you don't find in a lot of restaurants who serve Satay soup. Sign of quality in my books. The broth was also nice and thick which is the way I love it. Some don't.
The noodles were hot, temperature wise. Another bonus. If you like it spicy you'll have to add more chili oil. Lime came on the side and a nice pot of tea. Neato. The down side was the cost. Regular $13 and large $15 which is WAY too expensive.
Outstanding family run Vietnamese restaurant in South Edmonton. We eat here often. I love that they'll bend over backwards to veganize my stuff. A real gem!
Our favorite place to go for pho or beef satay soup. Feels kind of like a grandma's basement, but it adds to the charm. The prices are great and the food is delicious.
I personally don't have anything against this place, but my wife chose it and was quite disappointed...she is much more refined than I am .....what I would like to know is if this place is in any way related to La Pagode in west Edmonton? I have been there MANY times, the menus are identical in every way, same photos, same dish numbers, same combo plates same high prices....or is this the standard template for a Vietnamese restaurant?
The best food and they always return my phone. They have a great seafood hot pot .The hot soups are great and if you go with a group they will take great care of you. Ha.
Love this place! Here and the downtown location! I grew up on Vietnamese home-cooking and I can really attest to this place's authenticity.
This is possibly the only place in Edmonton to get Bo 7 Mon (7 courses of beef) I know the menu says for 2 people but I really think it's best shared with 3 people because there is so much food!
I have been to both locations several times and had great service and great food every time! The pho is amazing and all the wrappable dishes too!
Highly recommend for a very authentic Vietnamese taste and experience!
Southside soup. The first time we went here the pho broth was on the cold side. It wasn't piping hot and steamy as it should be but the service was great if you can get past the stuck-in-time someone's-basement atmosphere. We decided to try again because driving downtown sometimes isn't an option when you're craving hot soup on a cold day. The restaurant was lively and service was efficient and friendly as always. This time, the soup came hot hot hot! I like the broth but it doesn't beat Pho Hoan Pasteur in taste for me. Pagolac's is a bit saltier and less flavorful, a little one note. Hubby enjoys his beef satay soup and says their version is one of the spiciest he's tried. Points for excellent flavor. But compared to other places on the southside, Pagolac definitely gets high points for being the best so far down here. We usually order regular sizes which is more than enough. Always lots of meat to noodles and leaves me full. Great place!
Great restaurant. Parking is tough to get, especially during the lunch hour. We love the beef satay soup. It's second to none.
Had dinner Saturday night. The waiter made an error which contaminated my dinner. The manager quickly apoligized and made me a new dish. it was handled well and kudos to the management for fixing an unpleasant occurance.
So Pho- keen good :). Had Pho twice in the last two weeks here.
It was awesome
the beef so tender and the broth delish
great price too
highly recommended
Good time ! Thanks Pagolac. A friend of mine highly recommended this place, but he also gave me a heads-up that it's not authentic. To be honest, I don't expect from any Vietnamese restaurants here that they could bring out that authentic Viet cuisine. Not to mention, the name itself ( Vietnamese and Chinese) didn't excite me and I'm not a big fan of any fusion. So this time, as I kept my expectation moderate and also as I haven't dined out for a while, the first time experience at Pagolac really did satisfy me. I had vegetarian spring rolls ( number 14). I thinked they used taro. The spring rolls tasted starchy but not plain. As an appetizer, the spring rolls deserved 4 out of 5. I also ordered Pan Fried Beef with Lemongrass ( number 63). The beef was spicy, yet sweet. I actually wished it hadn't been that sweet, I hardly could tell its beef flavour. A little bit more veggie would have been nicer. Having said that, the price's reasonable, the service's fair. Overall, I had good food and a good time with my friends.
Good for Lunch. If you work in the area, this is a great place for lunch. I like the vermicelli with sliced beef and a spring roll. Parking is difficult when it's busy. It looks like an old steak house, with wood panel walls and no windows, but it's nicer than the downtown location.
Amazing food, and not just typical, "safe" Chinese food. More than worth the price.
Great food and service. Business meeting last week with some co-workers. Amazing soups and vermicelli bowls. Packed house during lunch so come early or reserve table. Favourite lunch spot for us!
Love the place. Springrolls are excellent.
Food was good however the service was terrible and a bit on the expensive side.
Fav pho place on the southside. I come here fairly regularly to get my pho/vermicilli fix, which I want to emphasize is very delish! The fried spring rolls is also very good. They also make their own ice cream in some unusual flavors, I like to get the durian one. In fact, I liked it so much that I never went on to try the other flavors:)
Last time we came we were being adventurous and ordered the sour lemon drink. Big mistake. It was not lemon, but rather tangerine peel. It was super weird tasting. My friend also ordered the coconut drink which was very diluted and obviously from a can. I think we'll just stick to our regulars from now on.
Great Service. I had the chicken vermicelli and my boyfriend had bun bo hue. We've been on a search for the best bun bo hue and so far, no luck. The chicken vermicelli was delicious and if I was craving for it, Pagolac would be my first choice. The bun bo hue is nothing to rave about but it sure did the job. Will be coming back. The customer serivce was great, they really show that they care which is quite rare from my experiences. Overall, me and my boyfriend were very pleased with the food and service!
Awesome food with reasonable price. I definitely recommend to all my friends
Delicious food with good price!. Went there for a late lunch on Sunday. It was surprising to see that they have so many dishes on their menu (100+ dishes). The food we ordered were very delicious, and they served good amount of food that we even could not finish. We had a beef dish with prawn and a another beef dish. The second beef dish had fresh mint that was very tasty. The service was just okay. We would like to go again and try other dishes.
What great menu they have! Food was excellent. Had some Wor WonTon soup, was the best I've ever had. Also had a Pagolac combination 7a. Haven't had such good food in a long time. Service was impecable and quick. I recommend this restaurant...5 stars!!! *****
Delicious Large Servings at a very decent price. My boyfriend and I make the drive out from Redwater to Pagolac at least twice a month. Our mouths literally water for Pagolac. The spring rolls are heavenly, the green onion cakes are superior, and the sliced beef on rice is so amazing that I would literally eat it every day for the rest of my life. And to sit back and enjoy a Vietnamese iced coffee is the perfect end to a delicious meal. The atmosphere is quiet and comfy and the staff are always happy to see and serve you. I did not prefer Vietnamese cuisine until I tried Pagolac and now it is in my top 5 favorites. Highly recommended!
Pretty good, No parking during lunch. Pros:
Amazing chow mien and the vermicelli bowls are very tasty
Prices are reasonable
Cons:
-Decor is old and no windows make it seem like you are in someone's basement or in a dungeion
- Parking can be a problem during lunch hours
Overall: Great place to go for some good eats
Amazing Dish. I will go out of my way to get the Honey Lemongrass Chicken, it is so amazing put with rice or eaten alone, they have outdone themselves on this dish, I have never been disapointed, and have eaten it alot, make sure you order Honey Lemongrass though its different from just lemongrass
Nobody In Particular
+4.5
Great for Lunch. Fast and delicious. That's all I need.
Good Food at Pagolca. I When I There With My Brother And nephew the food so good. it was cooked nice and hot and it smelled great.
Best deep fried tofu! Beef satay soup is delicious n can feed a small army. Portion sizes are all large. Decor is dated n staff are not attentive.
Tasty Treat. Even though the prices have gone up, the food is still tasty. Best place for green onion cakes and my favorite dish is the lemongrass beef verm. bowl. Very tasty and huge portion size. I can eat two lunches from the dish. Not the best for their pho though.
Best beef noodle soup. I had #26 deluxe beef noodle soup, it had medium beef, tripe, tendon, brisket, If you like beefy taste this is the soup for you. one of the best Pho's i have ever had, the tripe and tendon were cooked perfectly and added to the amazing flavour. decent service too.
Amazing authentic Vietnamese food!!!! Favorite vietnamese place in the city!!
Good!. I went to this location after I went to the one in China Town. the area is a bit weird because its in an industrial area. When I go here its usually quiet, and when you first enter its like going into a tavern. the food is quite good and comes out pretty fast. I think I prefer this location as opposed to the one in China Town because its more quiet, and not as rowdy.
Best beef satee soup and phenomenal spring rolls!! Delicious. You're not going to the decor here, it's all about the flavor.
Been going to this restaurant for over 25 years. Food is always great. Very packed at lunch. So get there early if you are going for lunch. Pho and spring rolls are great. Never had a bad meal there but be prepared for more traditional food. Which means different cuts of meat and many times meat on the bones.
Great pho soups and spring rolls, fast service, great value. Spring rolls probably the best in town.
Several Years Now. I've been going there for lunch for several years now with co workers & have a few comments that are due. My favorite is their Beef Satay Soup followed by the Singapore Noodles #102 . Their spring rolls are my favorite side dish. Portions are giant & often leave you with "Pag Lag" our description of an immanent nap about to hit you. If you plan to get there after noon & didn't phone for reservations you will likely be waiting in line for a while so always reserve just in case. Although the place can be busy the staff is quite efficient & surprisingly cheerful despite this. Once you've been here you will be hooked & soon find yourself reciting the menu #'s like you work there. Other good dishes to try are, #67& #72.
The food was very good. Did not like how big the portion sizes were. And really thinks that when the food comes to the table, the service should not end.
Excellent. I was very happy after ordering takeout from Pagolac. The staff were all friendly and offered above and beyond what most restaurants do when someone orders takeout. The food came out quick, and my friend and I both thought everything we ordered was delicious.
I'll definately be returning!
I love this restaurant because of the flavor and huge portions. I've tried the chicken chow mein- amazing! Crispy with lots of sauce and veggies . That's what I order my kids when we go and they share! Green onion cakes are sooooo addictive! So is the vietnamiese coffee. My absolute favorite is the beef noodle soup. It's so simple and yet so tasty! I've gone there two weeks in a row and I'm starting to have cravings for the soup again!
Wow never had so much steak in my pho before! Delicious onion cakes and super fresh salad rolls!!! One of my new faves
3.5/5 for Pagolac. Pagolac bills itself as a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant and has two locations in Edmonton. The south location is a little bit strange to locate - in a bit of a desolate strip mall, but the food is known to be quite good.
The first mystery upon arriving is that plastered on their bright yellow awning, they feature the Laughing Cow. Not really sure what he has to do with their restaurant (copyright infringement?)... Bizarre... But I like it.
You enter into a big wooden door and find yourself in a wooden, box-like foyer, then continue though the next wooden door. You'd never assume that the inside is so big! The restaurant is made up of a maze of hallways and different dining rooms. We proceeded down a long hallway which was lined with huge aquariums until we reached what appeared to be the main dining room. There we were greeted by a friendly host who promptly sat us in the near-empty room. The room is pretty strange. Full wood paneling on the walls, little "rooms" which are created by curtaining off some of the tables, another aquarium in the corner. At first glance, you might question your restaurant choice. But let the food be the judge of that!
The menu is HUGE and overwhelming. We're talking a massive list of 201 items. It almost feels frustrating to look at because you don't know where to begin or what to choose. We went through and selected a bunch of different things and hoped for the best! Luckily I was there with an experienced diner of this place, so I was willing to take her word on the choices - it seemed much easier that way!
The last two pages of the menu feature a whole bunch of really unique and exciting drinks, mostly all made with exotic fruit. This was one of the toughest choices, because they all had the potential to be great. In the end, I settled on the Avocado Juice ($3.95) due to my undying love for the avocado. A lot more like an avocado smoothie, this tasted very fresh and was VERY filling. The buttery green flavour of the avocado was front and center, which was exactly what I had hoped for.
We then opted for a few appetizers to begin the meal. Our server wasn't the best at speaking English, but she was friendly enough and took our order easily. To start, we went with the Egg Rolls (Deep fried Vietnamese style - $5.95) and Green Onion Cake ($5.25). These came out quickly and were very tasty! The egg rolls were hot and crispy and came with a delicious dipping sauce. They were also bigger then what you would typically expect, so there was a lot of filling to enjoy. The green onion cakes were also quite perfect. Typically, there are two kinds of green onion cakes that you can come across, the flat pancake-like ones which are a lot like Roti and cooked flat on a grill. There are also these ones, which are fluffier and deep fried. Both are good! They come in a generous size and when dipped into copious amounts of spicy chili sauce... Delicious!!
When it came to the main course, there were four of us, so we chose four different dishes to share and tried to make well-rounded selections. We settled on the Chicken Fried Rice ($7.95), Beef with Vegetables ($11.95), Singapore Noodle ($8.95) and Sweet & Sour Chicken ($11.95). Everything came out quickly on big plates filled with big portions. More then enough for four of us! Everything was very good. The rice had a really nice smokey flavour and the chopped asparagus within it seemed like something different.
The beef was savoury and tender, but the fresh and bright green broccoli that accompanied it was almost the best part!
The noodles, a dish of stir-fried rice vermicelli seasoned with curry powder, was accompanied by small slices of meat and shrimp. The noodles where super skinny and trapped in lots of spicy yellow curry flavour, and I especially enjoyed that the shrimp had been properly de-veined.
My favourite of the four, however, would probably be the sweet & sour chicken. The chicken itself was breaded, crispy and the meat within was tender and juicy. I realize that this is more of a Western take on Chinese food and not all that traditional, but nonetheless, the bright red sauce was sweet and vinegary and delicious. The dish was topped off with pineapple, green peppers and onion.
Overall, I enjoyed the food and would try it again. I think when I make my second visit I will have to try the Braised (1/4) Duck with Noodle in Soup. That dish was definitely calling to my taste buds! By time we left, the restaurant was PACKED full with other diners, so their food is definitely doing the talking.
#36 is the BEST SATAY in the WORLD!. If you like beef satay soup you won't be disappointed...its honestly the best soup I have ever had in my life...give it a try and you will be addicted for life...just remember #36!
Awesome! The location may not be the most obvious, and the "hole in the wall" ambiance could misslead some... But the food is just great.
Certainly worthy of everyones chance!
Number 68, of course. Well, thats my fav anyways :)
Pagaloc is def not the place if you expect to be waited on a lot
but if you want a great bowl of pho, tendon soup (dont be put off by the name..the flavour is amazing) or the classic 68... it is the best
the chicken curry (under noodle bowls) is amazing too...but depends on what the cooks serves you..most often you get a bit of potato, veg, and an amazing fragrant curry with heaps of chopped chicken (bone included) served on rice noodles, fresh cucs, and thai basil
the salad rolls are great too
we have eaten there for many years.. the chinatown one is great too but harder to park..mind you they sometimes serve sweet potato in the chicken curry which is pretty good !!
I like the #68 as you get a la lop (beef wrapped in herb leaf) char grilled lemon grass pork, spring roll and the beef balls.... peanuts and heaps of crisp lettuce, sprouts and cucs in the bowl... and awesome dipping sauce
pagaloc is a great stand by
Not very welcoming walking down the hall but they have the worlds BEST gingerbeef and awesome combination chowmein! Try the lemon grass chicken and you can't go wrong!
Don't let the location or decor fool you. The food is top notch. Try the 7 dishes of meat for two and you will be convinced.
When we arrived at the restaurant, it looked rather sketchy and slightly out of place, being the only opened restaurant in a quiet industrial area. Regardless, we walked in, and the interior decoration confirmed that this place was rather old - it reminded me of my grandparents' house back in the 1970's. But you know what they say about sketchy Vietnamese restaurants - the sketchier they look, the more delicious their food is. And Pagolac proved this statement to be true! As a result, here I am writing about this place because I want to share this hidden gem with other fellow food lovers :) The three of us ordered the large satay beef pho to help offset the -30 Degree Celsius chill in our bones. Let me forewarn you that the large bowl is not like other pho restaurants, in the sense that the difference in size is due to extra soup. No, not in Pagolac's case, the large bowl had a mountainous amount of noodles in it. Rice Noodle with Satay Beef (Spicy) What really stood out about this satay beef bowl from other pho restaurants was that the broth was really thick. It was so thick that we kept referring to the soup as a sauce instead. Nonetheless, the "soup/sauce" was full of bursting flavours and contained plenty of chopped up tomatoes and cucumbers (something rarely found in your typical satay broth). The satay broth was very spicy (read: "Excuse me, can we please have more ice water and napkins to blot my runny nose with?") and contained a touch of sweetness that makes you want to continue eating despite how filling the endless noodles were. As much as I love this satay beef pho from Pagolac, I would probably not eat this on a regular basis since it was really heavy. Pagolac's take on satay beef would be a treat that I would succumb to once in a w
