Review Pagolac Restaurant - Edmonton

I had a really good chicken and shrimp vermicelli dish. Was delicious! The vegetable dumplings were really good. My boyfriend got the curried chicken soup and it was very disappointing. Instead of chicken it was a chicken bone and bits of bone in the soup. Nothing much to it.. wouldn't recommend that dish.

This used to be my favorite Vietnamese restaurant of all time, for years. Lately it seems to be inconsistent in quality and the prices are really high. Sadly this is no longer my go to place for Vietnamese

Deluxe Rice Noodle Soup, Spring Rolls, Pagolac Combination on Rice and Vermicelli, Salad Rolls, avocado smoothie

#SoupSeason continues with Pagolac. The Deluxe soup is good stuff. Not only is it pretty big, it has tons of slices of beef with a good broth. Perfect for hangovers. Always order the spring rolls here cause they thick and filled with lots of meat. The Pagolac Combination is also a favorite here, just look at how big those meatballs are. It’s got grilled pork, spring rolls, and meatballs. I prefer the vermicelli version cause dumping the fish sauce into the bowl makes the last bites better. Salad rolls here are ok, still prefer the spring rolls cause they are so damn tasty here. Homie also copped that avocado smoothie to cool your body down from all the hot soup.

Pagolac has for a long time been a great spot for pho. They have 2 locations and I prefer the southside one over the Chinatown one. The southside’s interior is really old looking and it seems like Bruce Lee could jump out of the kitchen and fight someone at anytime. Pretty cool imo. They also have a lounge that is perfect for sunday morning NFL watching. Service is friendly and although prices are a little bit high, it’s still good for the amount you get.

Sal says: Just Try It (3.5/5)

Slaymond Tang says: Generous portions always delicious

@luub19 says: Good variety. Good portion. Pretty solid spot for Sunday football

If there was a choice to give no stars I would have. Our order was taken at 1 and up to now (2:43pm) our food has not come . The restaurant was busy for around 20min so we understood the wait but now there are only a few number of people at the restaurant. 4 new customers came in all in groups of 4 we are also a group of 4 and they were all served first. This is ridiculous!

When the food did come we had no spoons just chopsticks

It just keeps getting worst.. sigh.. anyways we reminded the waitress nicely about my friend's avocado smoothie and s@he replied with arms raised "i don't have time to make it , do you want me to make it now?" Hmm .. don't have time when all she is doing is bussing tables .. I have worked in pho before and being able to have time to bus tables means you have spare time to make 1 drink when everyone else in the restaurant is eating ...

The go to spot for pho, rice dishes or vermicelli bowls on the south side of Edmonton. Dishes are well priced, great tasting and good value. A wide variety of dishes to suit all your cravings. Save room for deep fried ice cream.

Price: $
Service: 😀😀😀
Food: ✔️✔️✔️✔️

A tucked away hidden gem of a restaurant that has amazing vermicelli and other great Vietnamese dishes.

This is truly a hidden gem among restaurants and I am glad I ate here.

Had the Satay soup and the broth had a lot of different ingredients. Vegetables, ETC. That's something you don't find in a lot of restaurants who serve Satay soup. Sign of quality in my books. The broth was also nice and thick which is the way I love it. Some don't.
The noodles were hot, temperature wise. Another bonus. If you like it spicy you'll have to add more chili oil. Lime came on the side and a nice pot of tea. Neato. The down side was the cost. Regular $13 and large $15 which is WAY too expensive.

Not overly impressed with the food or service. We packed up 50% of our meals cuz they weren't very tasty. Large selection of the menu but doesn't seem very fresh. Pho broth was extremely salty we won't be back

Outstanding family run Vietnamese restaurant in South Edmonton. We eat here often. I love that they'll bend over backwards to veganize my stuff. A real gem!

Our favorite place to go for pho or beef satay soup. Feels kind of like a grandma's basement, but it adds to the charm. The prices are great and the food is delicious.

Meh!
Quite honestly I don't know what all the fuss is about. It's mediocre. I've had better Viet food for less.
Ordered on skip the dishes and when I went to pick up I asked for some hoisin sauce, she asked in a snarky tone if I had put it on my order. I replied no sorry I forgot and then she preceded to look over my order on the tablet and then reluctantly went and grabbed ONE tiny little container for my $70 worth of food.
Gee thanks. Greatly appreciated.
I definitely will not be ordering from here again.

I personally don't have anything against this place, but my wife chose it and was quite disappointed...she is much more refined than I am .....what I would like to know is if this place is in any way related to La Pagode in west Edmonton? I have been there MANY times, the menus are identical in every way, same photos, same dish numbers, same combo plates same high prices....or is this the standard template for a Vietnamese restaurant?
Nnk
The best food and they always return my phone. They have a great seafood hot pot .The hot soups are great and if you go with a group they will take great care of you. Ha.

Love this place! Here and the downtown location! I grew up on Vietnamese home-cooking and I can really attest to this place's authenticity.

This is possibly the only place in Edmonton to get Bo 7 Mon (7 courses of beef) I know the menu says for 2 people but I really think it's best shared with 3 people because there is so much food!

I have been to both locations several times and had great service and great food every time! The pho is amazing and all the wrappable dishes too!

Highly recommend for a very authentic Vietnamese taste and experience!

Pagolac is the place to go if you are VERY hungry and in need of protein - their servings are HUGE and have lots of meat, particularly their pho dac biet! I have never been able to finish a bowl!

Other delicious food they serve include their bun bo hue, banh canh, and hu tieu! If you're extra hungry, try their 7 course beef. You will definitely be bringing some home for lunch the next day! The only thing is their prices are a little expensive and the area is secluded.

Decided to try this out with a friend and neither of us were impressed. We got the spicy lemongrass chicken vermicelli noodle bowls with spring rolls. I found it really flavourless and the chicken was not spicy at all. It was more like a bland sweet and sour chicken.

Service is bad as well. We were seated and not even asked for our drink order. Someone came around and got our food order, food was dropped off and that was it. Didn't have anyone come ask if we needed anything. We had to line up at the till to get our bill and pay.

Used to be my favourite Viet restaurant in Edmonton but it's been going downhill since 2007. I can bet you they re-use their broth. If you go early in the week the broth is nice and light. Towards the end of the week, their broth turns sour and dark. The thought of it makes me gag. Also, $12 for a bowl of pho is ridiculous. Will not be going back ever.
Thomas Foster
Bad service and too hot. I waited a 45 minutes in the sauna the call a restaurant before I finally decided they forgot my entree this was after they had messed up my appetizer. When I went to pay they tried charging me for the food that was forgotten.
Crutchleykevin
Please do better. Once you get sat down they dont even offer you a glass of water they dont say hi how are you. they bring me the food and no matter what you gotta ask for cutlery or you wont get any and you have to go to the main counter to refill your drink. Bad service!!
Hpresisniuk
All I can say is WOW....NEVER AGAIN.....you call this a restaurant? Beef Noodle Soup is not supposed to be salty...day after and I am totally dehydrated still tasting salt. Very poorly cooked Shrimp Garlic Rolls as well. A waste of $30 once delivery was added.
Rondo
Beef Satey. Just get 36. Nothing else. Its absolutely fantastic. You'll thank me.
Alicia
Do NOT get delivery. Took OVER two hours to get the food we ordered. Which was only two dishes, spring rolls and a drink. So disappointed in the amonut of time it took to get the food and they did not even offer a discount or anything. It sucks because the food is good but I will not be ordering delivery from here again.

Southside soup. The first time we went here the pho broth was on the cold side. It wasn't piping hot and steamy as it should be but the service was great if you can get past the stuck-in-time someone's-basement atmosphere. We decided to try again because driving downtown sometimes isn't an option when you're craving hot soup on a cold day. The restaurant was lively and service was efficient and friendly as always. This time, the soup came hot hot hot! I like the broth but it doesn't beat Pho Hoan Pasteur in taste for me. Pagolac's is a bit saltier and less flavorful, a little one note. Hubby enjoys his beef satay soup and says their version is one of the spiciest he's tried. Points for excellent flavor. But compared to other places on the southside, Pagolac definitely gets high points for being the best so far down here. We usually order regular sizes which is more than enough. Always lots of meat to noodles and leaves me full. Great place!
Roysohaib
Best vietnamese resturant. Their chicken fried rice no one can beat them. Bust chicken fried rice. I always go here especially for fried rice. They are the best

Great restaurant. Parking is tough to get, especially during the lunch hour. We love the beef satay soup. It's second to none.

Had dinner Saturday night. The waiter made an error which contaminated my dinner. The manager quickly apoligized and made me a new dish. it was handled well and kudos to the management for fixing an unpleasant occurance.

So Pho- keen good :). Had Pho twice in the last two weeks here.
It was awesome
the beef so tender and the broth delish
great price too
highly recommended

Good time ! Thanks Pagolac. A friend of mine highly recommended this place, but he also gave me a heads-up that it's not authentic. To be honest, I don't expect from any Vietnamese restaurants here that they could bring out that authentic Viet cuisine. Not to mention, the name itself ( Vietnamese and Chinese) didn't excite me and I'm not a big fan of any fusion. So this time, as I kept my expectation moderate and also as I haven't dined out for a while, the first time experience at Pagolac really did satisfy me. I had vegetarian spring rolls ( number 14). I thinked they used taro. The spring rolls tasted starchy but not plain. As an appetizer, the spring rolls deserved 4 out of 5. I also ordered Pan Fried Beef with Lemongrass ( number 63). The beef was spicy, yet sweet. I actually wished it hadn't been that sweet, I hardly could tell its beef flavour. A little bit more veggie would have been nicer. Having said that, the price's reasonable, the service's fair. Overall, I had good food and a good time with my friends.

Worst Pho Ever. Not having been here in a few years due to some really greasy pho, came back to give them another chance on a friend's recommendation.

Pho is no longer greasy, but instead the broth is just pure SALT, MSG and more SALT. Terrible. Meat is also tough and clumped together. Super hungry, could not finish.

The worst bowl of Pho I can ever remember having. Worse than Tien Tuyen.

Service was good, I guess. Who cares, the Pho was absolute garbage.

Salad roll is also bad. Too much mint, probably in an effort to cover up the porky smell.

Gross.
PrairieGal
Good for Lunch. If you work in the area, this is a great place for lunch. I like the vermicelli with sliced beef and a spring roll. Parking is difficult when it's busy. It looks like an old steak house, with wood panel walls and no windows, but it's nicer than the downtown location.

Second time we have been here - great food great service
we have tried 6 different menu items and have always have had no complaints
good size portions

Great food, weird location. Visiting Edmonton and I had a hankering for some Pho, after some tough googling I settled on Pagolac. Good thing I had GPS, or I never would have found the place. Place was pretty busy even with the location.

Really excellent spicy satay pho, green onion buns also very good. Very reasonable price to portion.

I will be back.
Emurphy
Absolutely Horrible. Not only was the food undercooked and disgusting, the dishes were dirty and the service was absolutely horrible.

It took them over 20 minutes to take our drink order after we sat down. Being the only white people in the restaurant, I think the staff and owners are big time racists.
Seth
Amazing food, and not just typical, "safe" Chinese food. More than worth the price.
J.T
Great food and service. Business meeting last week with some co-workers. Amazing soups and vermicelli bowls. Packed house during lunch so come early or reserve table. Favourite lunch spot for us!

Biggest & baddest the best ever Spring Rolls in Town! Bun Bo Hue is my fave here but have to say pretty much all the noodle soups are flavorful...@hyt6 the tea is not communal.. get ur facts straight before posting negative info... cheers to good eats here :)
Penguin
Love the place. Springrolls are excellent.

Food was good however the service was terrible and a bit on the expensive side.

Fav pho place on the southside. I come here fairly regularly to get my pho/vermicilli fix, which I want to emphasize is very delish! The fried spring rolls is also very good. They also make their own ice cream in some unusual flavors, I like to get the durian one. In fact, I liked it so much that I never went on to try the other flavors:)
Last time we came we were being adventurous and ordered the sour lemon drink. Big mistake. It was not lemon, but rather tangerine peel. It was super weird tasting. My friend also ordered the coconut drink which was very diluted and obviously from a can. I think we'll just stick to our regulars from now on.
Maria
Great Service. I had the chicken vermicelli and my boyfriend had bun bo hue. We've been on a search for the best bun bo hue and so far, no luck. The chicken vermicelli was delicious and if I was craving for it, Pagolac would be my first choice. The bun bo hue is nothing to rave about but it sure did the job. Will be coming back. The customer serivce was great, they really show that they care which is quite rare from my experiences. Overall, me and my boyfriend were very pleased with the food and service!

Awesome food with reasonable price. I definitely recommend to all my friends

Delicious food with good price!. Went there for a late lunch on Sunday. It was surprising to see that they have so many dishes on their menu (100+ dishes). The food we ordered were very delicious, and they served good amount of food that we even could not finish. We had a beef dish with prawn and a another beef dish. The second beef dish had fresh mint that was very tasty. The service was just okay. We would like to go again and try other dishes.

Significantly underachieving Vietnamese restaurant that cannot provide a high quality level for the food. My wife had a beef hot plate and it was disgusting. The sauce was slimy and without flavour. Their rice was old and it was simply reheated before serving. I ordered a Vermicelli grilled beef and it was tasteless the most bland and without flavour beef I had and the portion had a small portion of beef and vegetables and a ton of vermicelli.

We have been to many Vietnamese restaurants in Alberta and BC and this place is definitely one of the worst ones we have tasted.
Jason
What great menu they have! Food was excellent. Had some Wor WonTon soup, was the best I've ever had. Also had a Pagolac combination 7a. Haven't had such good food in a long time. Service was impecable and quick. I recommend this restaurant...5 stars!!! *****

Delicious Large Servings at a very decent price. My boyfriend and I make the drive out from Redwater to Pagolac at least twice a month. Our mouths literally water for Pagolac. The spring rolls are heavenly, the green onion cakes are superior, and the sliced beef on rice is so amazing that I would literally eat it every day for the rest of my life. And to sit back and enjoy a Vietnamese iced coffee is the perfect end to a delicious meal. The atmosphere is quiet and comfy and the staff are always happy to see and serve you. I did not prefer Vietnamese cuisine until I tried Pagolac and now it is in my top 5 favorites. Highly recommended!

Pretty good, No parking during lunch. Pros:

Amazing chow mien and the vermicelli bowls are very tasty
Prices are reasonable

Cons:
-Decor is old and no windows make it seem like you are in someone's basement or in a dungeion
- Parking can be a problem during lunch hours

Overall: Great place to go for some good eats
Sherry
Amazing Dish. I will go out of my way to get the Honey Lemongrass Chicken, it is so amazing put with rice or eaten alone, they have outdone themselves on this dish, I have never been disapointed, and have eaten it alot, make sure you order Honey Lemongrass though its different from just lemongrass
Rick
Worth it!. I've been going here for several years now and I would recommend this place to those who aren't too dainty and fragile to expect your usual safe run of the mill chinese food restaurant. This is Vietnamese and chinese. The soups are great and the dishes i've tried have all been good. As for the sauces and the tea the other reviewer should stick to maybe blue willow or some safe canadian chinese restaurants because your obviously too thin skinned for this place. Try the #32!

Would not go back.. The service was OK, the green onion cakes were fantastic and the pineapple smoothie was the best I've had in a long time. Other than that (and even for those things), I would not go back or recommend the restaurant. I'm not sure why they feel the need to leave the shrimp tails on in the garlic shrimp spring rolls - I gave up trying to eat them because it was such a nuisance so remove the tails. The sauces on the table have been there so long two of the four glued themselves shut and I'm not even sure anyone knows how many people have used them in ways other then to scoop some out with a clean spoon. And DON'T drink the green tea. It's all from a communal bowl that is refilled with the leftovers from tables that have come and gone. The dishes that my husband and I ordered (including the garlic shrimp) had no sauce other than a side of fish sauce which tasted awful. I'd go just about anywhere before I went back to this restaurant.

Pagolac. Been a customer for years there, but finally decided to write a review. Personal favorites are the seafood soup and there combination 88 on rice. The soups are amazing here!!

Only con is that it's difficult to find, but since I've already found it, I don't realy mind if no one else checks it out. ;)

I thought I didn't like this place but then it surprised me. First Visit in Years:

With a vermicelli bowl that set me back $13 because of that tiger prawn :( haha

No, it was good, I just didn't know it'd cost that much. I thought I ordered something $10.

It feels kinda like a dungeon inside but the food is good. It's nice to not drive to Chinatown for this kind of food. After hating pho hoa and losing hope in Tien Tuyen and Hung Phat I really don't know where to go anymore except here in the south side.

Xu Hue and Trang Tien are much better choices if you go downtown, but until then, this place will give you a good fix.

Dec 2012 Visit:

I ordered a vermicelli bowl again not trusting they can do good pho like Xu Hue but then I was sorely disappointed by the tastelessness and meaty-ness of the food... OK you are thinking: "CyniC-, why you mad bro? Why you complaining on overmeat and overportion?" Well, I think I realized that it's not all about the quantity... a large quantity of mediocrity does not transform into excellence. Lots of people come to this place... so they must be doing something right... or people just like the price and the portion and the decency and not anything else. I would almost dare to say that it is the convenience and comfort level that make people come back time after time... or maybe because the servers spoke Cantonese. Otherwise, I really don't see any reason to step into this dungeon.

Great for Lunch. Fast and delicious. That's all I need.

Food was pretty good. Deco.... Food was pretty good.
Decor was awful. Wood paneling and wooden chairs that were quite worn. Some people would say it has character but it felt claustrophobic and dingy to me.
The service wasn't very good. We had to ask for water 3 times before we got glasses brought to us. And we had to ask for refills twice.

Good Food at Pagolca. I When I There With My Brother And nephew the food so good. it was cooked nice and hot and it smelled great.
Marco Parra
Disappointed. Had always enjoyed the soups until the day that I had ordered 2 soups and each of the soups had a dark long hair. Very disappointed, haven't gone back since.
Koko Gigo
Best deep fried tofu! Beef satay soup is delicious n can feed a small army. Portion sizes are all large. Decor is dated n staff are not attentive.
Kerri Zacharias
Tasty Treat. Even though the prices have gone up, the food is still tasty. Best place for green onion cakes and my favorite dish is the lemongrass beef verm. bowl. Very tasty and huge portion size. I can eat two lunches from the dish. Not the best for their pho though.
Saskadan
Best beef noodle soup. I had #26 deluxe beef noodle soup, it had medium beef, tripe, tendon, brisket, If you like beefy taste this is the soup for you. one of the best Pho's i have ever had, the tripe and tendon were cooked perfectly and added to the amazing flavour. decent service too.
QuickEats
Average. The pho they have here is average. I would recommend the 4 colour rice noodle dishes over the noodle soup dishes. 3 stars. the decore is to old and gloomy for me.
Amanda Lee Stevens
Amazing authentic Vietnamese food!!!! Favorite vietnamese place in the city!!
SDemi
Jacked up prices.. I used to come here all the time, but the prices have gone up and are ridiculous for the quality you get. There must've been a change of chefs as well, as my favourite dish (clear noodle with seafood) now tastes like crap. Disappointed, but might be back to see if the chef is changed.
Allaria
Good!. I went to this location after I went to the one in China Town. the area is a bit weird because its in an industrial area. When I go here its usually quiet, and when you first enter its like going into a tavern. the food is quite good and comes out pretty fast. I think I prefer this location as opposed to the one in China Town because its more quiet, and not as rowdy.
Yum Yum
Best beef satee soup and phenomenal spring rolls!! Delicious. You're not going to the decor here, it's all about the flavor.
Ricki Ricardo
Been going to this restaurant for over 25 years. Food is always great. Very packed at lunch. So get there early if you are going for lunch. Pho and spring rolls are great. Never had a bad meal there but be prepared for more traditional food. Which means different cuts of meat and many times meat on the bones.
Reviewer-x
Great pho soups and spring rolls, fast service, great value. Spring rolls probably the best in town.

Several Years Now. I've been going there for lunch for several years now with co workers & have a few comments that are due. My favorite is their Beef Satay Soup followed by the Singapore Noodles #102 . Their spring rolls are my favorite side dish. Portions are giant & often leave you with "Pag Lag" our description of an immanent nap about to hit you. If you plan to get there after noon & didn't phone for reservations you will likely be waiting in line for a while so always reserve just in case. Although the place can be busy the staff is quite efficient & surprisingly cheerful despite this. Once you've been here you will be hooked & soon find yourself reciting the menu #'s like you work there. Other good dishes to try are, #67& #72.

The food was very good. Did not like how big the portion sizes were. And really thinks that when the food comes to the table, the service should not end.

Excellent. I was very happy after ordering takeout from Pagolac. The staff were all friendly and offered above and beyond what most restaurants do when someone orders takeout. The food came out quick, and my friend and I both thought everything we ordered was delicious.
I'll definately be returning!
Lyndsey Greenhalgh
I love this restaurant because of the flavor and huge portions. I've tried the chicken chow mein- amazing! Crispy with lots of sauce and veggies . That's what I order my kids when we go and they share! Green onion cakes are sooooo addictive! So is the vietnamiese coffee. My absolute favorite is the beef noodle soup. It's so simple and yet so tasty! I've gone there two weeks in a row and I'm starting to have cravings for the soup again!
Tatianya Newell
Wow never had so much steak in my pho before! Delicious onion cakes and super fresh salad rolls!!! One of my new faves
Tastyfood
Worst grilled lemon grass chicken vermicelli I've ever had!. The chicken was dried and bland. There were pieces of bones mixed in that looked like it was a bunch of chicken scraps.

Definitely not worth the price.

3.5/5 for Pagolac. Pagolac bills itself as a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant and has two locations in Edmonton. The south location is a little bit strange to locate - in a bit of a desolate strip mall, but the food is known to be quite good.
The first mystery upon arriving is that plastered on their bright yellow awning, they feature the Laughing Cow. Not really sure what he has to do with their restaurant (copyright infringement?)... Bizarre... But I like it.

You enter into a big wooden door and find yourself in a wooden, box-like foyer, then continue though the next wooden door. You'd never assume that the inside is so big! The restaurant is made up of a maze of hallways and different dining rooms. We proceeded down a long hallway which was lined with huge aquariums until we reached what appeared to be the main dining room. There we were greeted by a friendly host who promptly sat us in the near-empty room. The room is pretty strange. Full wood paneling on the walls, little "rooms" which are created by curtaining off some of the tables, another aquarium in the corner. At first glance, you might question your restaurant choice. But let the food be the judge of that!

The menu is HUGE and overwhelming. We're talking a massive list of 201 items. It almost feels frustrating to look at because you don't know where to begin or what to choose. We went through and selected a bunch of different things and hoped for the best! Luckily I was there with an experienced diner of this place, so I was willing to take her word on the choices - it seemed much easier that way!

The last two pages of the menu feature a whole bunch of really unique and exciting drinks, mostly all made with exotic fruit. This was one of the toughest choices, because they all had the potential to be great. In the end, I settled on the Avocado Juice ($3.95) due to my undying love for the avocado. A lot more like an avocado smoothie, this tasted very fresh and was VERY filling. The buttery green flavour of the avocado was front and center, which was exactly what I had hoped for.

We then opted for a few appetizers to begin the meal. Our server wasn't the best at speaking English, but she was friendly enough and took our order easily. To start, we went with the Egg Rolls (Deep fried Vietnamese style - $5.95) and Green Onion Cake ($5.25). These came out quickly and were very tasty! The egg rolls were hot and crispy and came with a delicious dipping sauce. They were also bigger then what you would typically expect, so there was a lot of filling to enjoy. The green onion cakes were also quite perfect. Typically, there are two kinds of green onion cakes that you can come across, the flat pancake-like ones which are a lot like Roti and cooked flat on a grill. There are also these ones, which are fluffier and deep fried. Both are good! They come in a generous size and when dipped into copious amounts of spicy chili sauce... Delicious!!

When it came to the main course, there were four of us, so we chose four different dishes to share and tried to make well-rounded selections. We settled on the Chicken Fried Rice ($7.95), Beef with Vegetables ($11.95), Singapore Noodle ($8.95) and Sweet & Sour Chicken ($11.95). Everything came out quickly on big plates filled with big portions. More then enough for four of us! Everything was very good. The rice had a really nice smokey flavour and the chopped asparagus within it seemed like something different.
The beef was savoury and tender, but the fresh and bright green broccoli that accompanied it was almost the best part!
The noodles, a dish of stir-fried rice vermicelli seasoned with curry powder, was accompanied by small slices of meat and shrimp. The noodles where super skinny and trapped in lots of spicy yellow curry flavour, and I especially enjoyed that the shrimp had been properly de-veined.
My favourite of the four, however, would probably be the sweet & sour chicken. The chicken itself was breaded, crispy and the meat within was tender and juicy. I realize that this is more of a Western take on Chinese food and not all that traditional, but nonetheless, the bright red sauce was sweet and vinegary and delicious. The dish was topped off with pineapple, green peppers and onion.

Overall, I enjoyed the food and would try it again. I think when I make my second visit I will have to try the Braised (1/4) Duck with Noodle in Soup. That dish was definitely calling to my taste buds! By time we left, the restaurant was PACKED full with other diners, so their food is definitely doing the talking.

#36 is the BEST SATAY in the WORLD!. If you like beef satay soup you won't be disappointed...its honestly the best soup I have ever had in my life...give it a try and you will be addicted for life...just remember #36!

Eww. This place is dirty and gross. Just look in the kitchen-it's missing chef Ramsay telling the illegal staff that they are"#^£€%•ing idiots!!"
Kwall
Concurring with other reviews about atmosphere, etc, we were pleasantly surprised by large portions, fresh vegetables and decent prices. A bit soggy on the sauce here and there and maybe overreliant on broccoli but if you just want a comfort-food experience at a good price, this is a good deal.
R G
Awesome! The location may not be the most obvious, and the "hole in the wall" ambiance could misslead some... But the food is just great.
Certainly worthy of everyones chance!

I just want to know. I see this place serves the beef 7 ways...do any other places in Edmonton serve this? What about the grilled beef sausages wrapped in la lot leaves? Or the fondue?

And does the fondue here come with the fixings to make rice paper rolls?

I had a bun dish in Vancouver that was basically a bun bowl with 3 kinds of grilled beef sausages on top, served with an amazing brown sauce called mam nem, and some lettuce to wrap the sausages in prior to dipping in the mam nemmy goodness. Has anyone had anything like this in Edmonton?

Also, is there a forum here where I can post these kinds of questions directly?

Big Dissapointment. Went there on recommendation from friends, one previous good experience, and good reviews. The food was terrible, even the rice was bad, gummy even. Three of us ordered three different dishes and none of us enjoyed our meals. All three, including the sate soup, were thickened with starch. Also, bad service and atmosphere. The waitress clearly brought my dish to the table next to ours, brought it back to the kitchen, then to my table. None of us will ever been returning.

Number 68, of course. Well, thats my fav anyways :)

Pagaloc is def not the place if you expect to be waited on a lot

but if you want a great bowl of pho, tendon soup (dont be put off by the name..the flavour is amazing) or the classic 68... it is the best

the chicken curry (under noodle bowls) is amazing too...but depends on what the cooks serves you..most often you get a bit of potato, veg, and an amazing fragrant curry with heaps of chopped chicken (bone included) served on rice noodles, fresh cucs, and thai basil

the salad rolls are great too

we have eaten there for many years.. the chinatown one is great too but harder to park..mind you they sometimes serve sweet potato in the chicken curry which is pretty good !!

I like the #68 as you get a la lop (beef wrapped in herb leaf) char grilled lemon grass pork, spring roll and the beef balls.... peanuts and heaps of crisp lettuce, sprouts and cucs in the bowl... and awesome dipping sauce

pagaloc is a great stand by

Don't let the location or decor fool you. The food is top notch. Try the 7 dishes of meat for two and you will be convinced.

When we arrived at the restaurant, it looked rather sketchy and slightly out of place, being the only opened restaurant in a quiet industrial area. Regardless, we walked in, and the interior decoration confirmed that this place was rather old - it reminded me of my grandparents' house back in the 1970's. But you know what they say about sketchy Vietnamese restaurants - the sketchier they look, the more delicious their food is. And Pagolac proved this statement to be true! As a result, here I am writing about this place because I want to share this hidden gem with other fellow food lovers :) The three of us ordered the large satay beef pho to help offset the -30 Degree Celsius chill in our bones. Let me forewarn you that the large bowl is not like other pho restaurants, in the sense that the difference in size is due to extra soup. No, not in Pagolac's case, the large bowl had a mountainous amount of noodles in it. Rice Noodle with Satay Beef (Spicy) What really stood out about this satay beef bowl from other pho restaurants was that the broth was really thick. It was so thick that we kept referring to the soup as a sauce instead. Nonetheless, the "soup/sauce" was full of bursting flavours and contained plenty of chopped up tomatoes and cucumbers (something rarely found in your typical satay broth). The satay broth was very spicy (read: "Excuse me, can we please have more ice water and napkins to blot my runny nose with?") and contained a touch of sweetness that makes you want to continue eating despite how filling the endless noodles were. As much as I love this satay beef pho from Pagolac, I would probably not eat this on a regular basis since it was really heavy. Pagolac's take on satay beef would be a treat that I would succumb to once in a w

This is the outside of the restaurant. This pho place is in the middle of no where in the argyll industrial area ( close to Won Jung Gak) . To me it looks a bit shady and dirty looking but that is usually where you find gems.
The Satay Pho at Pagolac is described on the menu as “Beef with Rice Noodle in Satay Sauce (Spicy)” and you can either select the regular size serving or the large one. The regular size is more than enough for me and I find the large is perfect to share with someone else (especially when you add on an order of green onion cakes to split too). The Satay Pho at Pagolac has a wonderfully spicy broth, but it’s not too spicy, and a great depth of flavour. The soup is loaded up with tons of noodles, thinly sliced beef, tomatoes, lettuce, peanuts and all sorts of other things that I probably don’t know about. The pho is served with a lime wedge, bean sprouts and an additional hot pepper that can be added to the soup. The combination of all of these ingredients makes this one of my favourite things to eat in Edmonton.

I realized that I've been eating pho quite often since coming to Edmonton. I blame it on the fact that most of my coworkers seem to be in love with this Vietnamese noodle soup. Whenever we need to come up with a place for lunch, guaranteed someone is going to say: "Pho?" But another reason is that there are lots of pho restaurants in the city thanks to the large Vietnamese population. Pagolac near the old office building is one of Rex's favourite lunch spots. The rare beef pho here is pretty good; I especially like how the soup is served piping hot. Rex always gets the onion cake as an appetizer. Each order comes with two large rings like the one shown below. I rarely enjoy fried food, but this didn't feel very oily at all. The crust was crispy while the layers inside were flaky and fluffy. The restaurant is very casual like a cafe with table service. Since the staff is always busy, many customers go up front to pay the bill so they don't have to wait. Personally I would never suggest
