Review D'amore's Mercato - Edmonton

Hands down 5 out of 5! Great service, awesome soup, panini and pizza. Highlight is the dessert! They sell frozen pasta and dessert too. Make sure you are hungry when you go

Whoa, total hidden gem! I suppose it's not really hidden on 99 Street off 51 Ave, but overshadowed by the Italian Centre and its Spinelli's cafe a few blocks west, D'Amore's Mercato was a pleasant surprise with it's wood-burning oven, very affordable, tasty pizza (~$14-15), and array of deli options including cafe desserts, Italian goods, and even... donairs? The pizza is a thicker crust North American-Italian fusion that's not quite Neopolitan, but also not your typical Boston Pizza pie. What matters is it's good! Cheese quality was great and crust had some nice crisp and leoparding, although my Margherita could've benefited from some fresh basil added. Overall, big thumbs up from me. Does it crack my top 5 pizzas in Edmonton? Not quite, but after dining at over 20 pizzerias in the last 1 year, where many of the places start to blend in, D'Amore's Mercato is memorable to me.

Very friendly staff and the food came very quick and waste extremely tasty. I got the cappuccino and Italian Pepperoni pizza. Prices were extremely reasonable. Great place to stop in for a bite and a coffee or to grab food to go.

Had an awesome sandwich. Service was great and there are a lot of great things there to tempt you. Worth the drive, even though it’s a bit hidden.

My fave place in Edmonton for cannolis and authentic pasta and pizza. They've got a grocery nearby where the Italians hangout which feels like you're in a mafia movie

Really recommend this place. Great food, great service, one of the best bistros(?) in town in my opinion.
David Brown
Great food and prices for wood fired pizza's and panini sandwiches

The pizza is amazing. Great way to enjoy a lunch with the kids. My kids love the massive drink selection offered as well. The best is picking out your own treat to take home after.

Very good we had the full order pasta shells, one with meat sauce and one with half Alfredo half marinara. My only comment would be that it needs more salt either in the cooking water for the pasta or the pasta itself, not sure. Once I added some salt and some Parmesan and hot chili peppers everything was on point.

The pizza was burned and tasteless. The shape was awkward too. I had good pizza before but never at this place. Not going there back for sure.

Pizza was very bland, with barely any tomato sauce. Good amount of toppings.. But crust was a bit soggy. Maybe cause I got a vegetarian pizza?

I kinda enjoyed my salad with no dressing more than the pizza.. Definitely not my favourite pizza joint.

Stopped in for an Italian afternoon espresso. Store front and coffee shop are empty, not one customer other than us. Unfortunately that does not mean that there is any customer service. I cannot comment on the food as we did not have any but after waiting ten minutes for our first hello we moved on. Store front has a selection of frozen Italian take out.

Had Margherita pizza. I thought they normally have basil, but this only had a green speck or two on the whole thing. I must disagree with the one saying it is better than Famoso's or the best pizza in Edmonton (hardly). The service was friendly. I bought some frozen items for home, so we will see. I thought it was odd that the staff all seemed Filipino (wonderful people), not Italian :)

I eat here often, and often pick up food for business meetings.
Everything I order there is amazing, always.
However... the lentil soup just rocked my world.
Lentil soup? For real.
Yowza!

Lunch today.
Nice spot.
Decided on their basic pasta option. Had shells with meat sauce, and a bottle of water. ~$12.
Pretty good value.
Small seating area.
Modest decor.
I must admit. Pasta wasn't stellar. But it was good. After reading other reviews, I look forward to returning and sampling both their sandwiches, and moreover...their pizza!

I've been here many times. Their pizza is very good, though their caesar salad with homemade dressing is my favourite. Staff are very friendly, not to mention the store part where you can pick up a few items before you leave us a bonus.

Excellent cappicino's! Homemade goodness food!!! Just the way Mama used to cook! Delicious healthy eating with some nitrate free options. Handmade pasta frozen meals available for takeout too. Soup broths are made from scratch, no msg. Simply delicious! So glad we found this hidden jewel in Edmonton!

You gotta eat here!!. Ok, so I stole the name of a tv show but I couldn't think of any other way to describe my experience. Location is convieniently on 99 St and 46 ave with easy access and ample parking. The ambiance is open, relaxing, classy and comfortable. The food is FANTASTIC and all freshly made to order. I've had a number of sandwiches and today experienced pizza heaven!
I'm a huge fan of the gourmet pizza with a thin chewy crust, I've searched around for that right one in Edmonton but no luck....until today!! The ingredients are all prepared, chopped, marinated and grilled in their large spotless kitchen and it only took 4 minutes to get it as its was cooked in a stone oven, the best!!
This is definitely my go to place for pizza and other Italian delights. Everything is delicious such as the desserts, salads, sandwiches and I always finish it off with a latte.
I don't write about food, EVER but I had to share this gem of a restaurant. It has everything from eat in/ take out, deli meats and cheeses, groceries and pre-made dished to cook at home. Sorry no photos as I ate everything before I started this post!

Quick Lunch. Stopped by with the wife today for lunch. The place is bright, shiny and clean. We were so drawn to the deli we took a quick tour through and saw the fridge full of take and bake entrees - all at a reasonable cost.
After looking through the menu boards we picked sandwiches and ordered at the counter. There was a short wait and we picked our sandwiches up at the counter. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty and while we ate we watched the action in the kitchen which included the making of lots of fresh pasta and tending to the pizza oven.
Service, price, and quality were all there for sure and lunch was barely 20 bucks for both of us.

We were back - the Tiramisu is some of the best in the city.

Amazing!!. Awesome food, service, location/environment! One of the best pizzas in town. All food made in house, including the 'ready-to-go' food at the market. Just excellent! :)

-----09 Apr, 2015-----

Amazing!!. Awesome food, service, location! One of the best pizzas in town. Excellent!!!!. Any time of the day, D'Amores is the go to place. Great service, great food, great atmosphere! Try it, you will not regret it.

Bam someone knows what they were doing when they opened this.... It feels like IKEA cafeteria because there's an Italian shop in the other half of the restaurant. Yet it is probably the most upscale, high quality, order-yourself-bring-it-to-your-table-yourself restaurant ever. The pizza was magnificent like the ones in Rome, Italy. This beats Famoso hands-down in terms of quality and taste, but not selection. Hidden in the 99st industrial area, this is a hidden gem indeed.

Have eaten Pizza all over the world!. The best pizza so far. Even better when you reheat the left over on tin foil on the Barbecue..amazing
Ask Albert to make the sausage and peppers..it crazy tasty

-----13 Jan, 2015-----

Secret is out. You have to try this place, it has everything right, quality, taste and price. Plus they have ready made meals to take out. Maybe they should deliver?

Mmm mmm magically delicious. I've been a fan of the north end location for years and was excited to find a location on the south side. I took my pal, who I work with and used to go to the north side location with, to it for lunch and we were blown away. The minestrone soup is the best bowl of homemade soup in the city hand down (tied with grandmas of course). Everything tasted exactly how I remembered it. Keep it up guys and ill be there at least once a week.

thx

Lunch and Dinner. Came here a few times for lunch and the food was great so I started getting take-out dinner orders as well. The frozen pasta is also susprisingly tasty.

Delicious, Well Priced, and Fast. I ordered a sandwich off of the menu, and it was fantastic. The only downside was that I never got a chance to try all of the other things, which all looked great too. It's very nice inside, the atmosphere was very congenial, the manager was great, and they've got a really awesome Italian market off to the side. I would definitely recommend the place
Ima_murder
Fantastic. Some of the best pizza i have had in edmonton! and the manager was great to deal with. thanks for the free pizza

GREAT FOOD EVERY TIME!. I've been here 4 or 5 times & have never been disappointed with the end result. The pizza & sandwiches are all fresh, tasty & high quality.
I'm not sure what is up Jesse H's butt except maybe his taste buds & class, which he obviously has none of. If EVERYBODY you know or see is enjoying themselves, you gotta question your own thought process. If you're the owner of D'Amore's, do not worry about this person, as I'm sure he'd rather eat leftover KD.

Sadly Disappointed. Everyone at my office raves about this place, so I tried it a couple times. Three actually. And every time my order has been the one that was forgotten, leaving me standing around waiting for about 15-20 minutes on average. One day it was exceptionally busy - I watched more than a dozen people come in after me and get their food. The owner did seem like a nice guy as he talked to people, but was awfully selective about who he talked to. In my almost full hour of waiting in total, I've seen him give free desserts out (though seemingly only to pretty girls), and chat up people he seems to already know. Not once did he talk to or even acknowledge me as I stood patiently waiting for my food. They did give me a free tiramisu the last time I was in, but given that my order was a healthy salad, I ended up giving it away anyways. The salad was pretty tasty, although I still found myself hungry afterwards. For me, given the value coupled with the service I personally received, I have to say I won't be going back. I tried, three times, and have yet to have a good experience. Too bad, because everyone else seems to really enjoy it there.

The best pizza ! Tastes delicious always freshly made in front of you. The crust is so thin and it just melts in your mouth. I always add artichoke, black olives, and mushrooms to give it a nice taste. My favourite place so glad they opened up !

I typically don't like Italian restaurants here in the city but this place is an exception. Limoncello Cheesecake and Deluxe Pizza highly recommended!!!
Rem Better Than Your Girl
First of all, the owner of the place is such an amazing man. He is constantly out and about in the store/restaurant talking to customers, helping his staff and joking around. When we were leaving today, we regrettably said that we never tried their tiramisu. He ran over to the cafe and grabbed a small tiramisu for us to try and just gave it to us (very very good by the way).
Now, to the food. I've been there a few times and it's insanely good. Their pizza is crispy but chewy as well. The toppings are very fresh, meat is sliced and cut in store. Also had a caprese salad which was delicious as well.
Overall amazing experience here, I strongly recommend it!

You have to try this place!. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff very friendly and the food excellent - had the vegetarian pizza and it was fantastic!
The take home selection of food is great for family's on the go.

Incredible, authentic and fresh food! I drive across the city at least once a week to have lunch at this incredible deli. Must try if you enjoy Italian food! They also have an amazing deli selection for you to take fresh cheeses
And deli meats home!

D'amores Mercato I've been .... D'amores Mercato
I've been here quite a few times now and love it more every time I go. Staff is very friendly and owners seem great too. I usually order the Alfredo pasta which is amazing or get a pizza made in their big brick oven. I have not bought something from their store section yet, but there's lots of variety to choose from, mostly items imported straight from Italy. In their fridges on the side wall they have meals they've made which you can heat up at home. I've heard many people say they fantastic. In the grocery side they also have a deli. Everything is freshly made and it's traditional Italian food. They're coffee is very good too, I always get one when I go. I will definitely keep coming back!
Josh_santua23
It's my first time to taste their pizza and it was so good. They made it from a fresh dough and baked it in their large fire oven. It is so fresh and a must try for everyone. Will surely come back again. People are so nice and friendly. Very accommodating place.

User reviews. We found out about D'Amore's Mercanto from UrbanSpoon because we didn't know where to go for coffee or lunch. It wasn't too far away and sounded okay so off we went. The staff greeted us with smiles as we entered and the smells told me that this would be good. I started with an Italian Meat Sandwich made panini style. It was delicious. Absolutely full of flavour that only skill and fresh foods can create. We didn't need more but I had to try the pizza so I suggested a single order for the five of us to split. The Delux Pizza was made the right way with a thin but not limp crust and the top full of flavour. Here too they show their skill. My family who say they never eat olives or muchrooms discovered how wonderful such things are. I would say it is the best pizza in memory but there was this one place near Mount Hood in the States that was slightly better but it is too far to drive to. This is the best pizza in Edmonton. The prices were quite reasonable too. After we finished we checked out the grocery store that fills the other have of the cafe. Some prepared meals and interesting odds and ends for later and we were finished. We will be back.

Noticed this little gem of a place by accident and we are so glad we stumbled upon it! It's beautiful as soon as you walk in with freezers full of take home foods and helpful friendly staff everywhere! And the pizza? To die for! Will definitely be back!

One's you've had this you may never go back.. This place was recommended to me by a friend of a friend. I hit D'Amore's Mercato the day it opened and have not turned back. From their fresh pasta to their Panini’s and then finally their pizza which is made by a young man from Italy who rolls the dough fresh, dresses the pizza then places it with love into the brick oven (I think it's a brick oven). Within 6 minutes, the pizza is sitting in front of you and if you dare to take a bite of that fresh, hot piece of heaven you know nothing is going to compare. I highly recommend giving this place a shot. I've been 6 times since they've opened. They are welcoming with open arms, treat you as if you were family and I promise you'll return with friends in tow.

I'm a regular at the original north side damores location, been eating there for the past 10+ years. The new location is really nice and the service is very good. The portions are smaller and everything is more expensive though. Still the best sandwich joint in the area.

Wow, Edmonton is clearly the king of RANDOM industrial delicious eating places. A good buddy of mine and I checked out D’Amore’s Mercato for lunch on a Sunday afternoon after an exhausting game of squash. We put in our order and took a peak at the rest of the store. Good selection of cheese, cold cut meats and they have a huge selection of frozen lasagna/pasta/dinner meals if you are too lazy to cook. They all looked delicious and would be very good for a dinner party, as portions looked huge. We decided to share: – Pizza bianca ($12.95) – white pizza topped with tuscan ham, mushrooms, mozzarella and parmesan cheese. The pizza was delicious! Made fresh right in front of our eyes, you can really taste the quality. One of the best pizza’s I’ve had in quite some time. Pizza bianca ($12.95) - Cuban grill ($8.50 for the large) – whole wheat bread with turkey breast, mild capicola with provolone, garlic pickle, house dressing, mayo and mustard. Nicely grilled Panini style with a slight crunc

...The sfogliatelle. A crescendo of transparent thin layered dough, all cusped into a clamshell shape. Every bite begins with the audible crackling of the layers, akin to biting into brittle leaves. The gastronomical wizardry involved in this pastry never ceases to amaze.

D'Amores Mercato is a great addition to Edmonton. The bistro side served up delicious food and I definitely would return again to try out some other offerings. I'm looking forward to trying out the fresh pastas made in house and I've heard great things about the tiramisu. On the market side there is a deli with a wide variety of cured meats, but what caught my eye was the freezer section.

Independent grocery stores, though notable exceptions buck this rule, have been conspicuously absent from Edmonton's landscape. Indeed, it's all too easy to succumb to the Big Box Stores' siren song of low prices and "everything from a twelve pack of winter tires to a case of peaches" under one roof.
Beyondumami
We left D'Amore's Mercato sufficiently filled and even had some tiramisu to try at home. The tiramisu was really tasty and light without being too heavy. We will certainly be back to check out the pizzas and to see the new olive oil bar that will be coming in soon.
