This is my favourite restaurant in Edmonton. Service and food are A plus. I've been here at least 20 times and I always leave impressed. The Butternut Ravioli is amazing and their salads are always fresh and delicious.
Bistecca Restaurant
This restaurant is one of our favourites. We regularly visit here and have come to the point where we just ask Chef Sonny Sung and his excellent staff to just "make " us something. Today both of us have had a week or so of intense work load and are totally bushed. When it came time to order from Debra our server, I just said I am "brain dead"'and couldn't make a decision if my life depended on it. Debra to the rescue, we had a series of ASSAGGINI or "little bites" brought to us that almost read our minds as to what we would like. The last serving was a small "off the menu" serving of beef short rib ravioli. An amazing light meal over an extended period of time that allowed us to relax, collect our thoughts and then share them with each other. This is the kind of dining we experienced daily in Europe and have tried to find at home. A wonderful meal, attentive servers and great kitchen that gave us a well deserved evening together. When in Edmonton you must try this fine little restaurant located at 23rd Ave and 111th Street.
We had dinner on a Sunday evening and it was delightful. Beautiful interior. Appetizers, steaks, and crepe dessert were all delish and expertly presented. We had an excellent red wine, at a slightly chilled temp. So nice. Staff were all helpful and friendly. Maitre d' was very experienced and professional. Well done! We will definitely go back.
I can honestly say this was the best steak I have ever had. Tender perfection. The food was excellent and ample; we especially liked being able to combine small samplers of starters "Assaggini" - little tastes. Another winner is the Beef Short Rib Ravioli. Our visit was especially enjoyable because, while there was light jazz music playing, we were not bombarded by kitchen noise or high ceiling "clatter" that seems to be the standard at newer, trend driven restaurants. The staff is well informed and very friendly and overall the restaurant is elegant yet relaxed.
>Came for supper here a few months ago. Never got around to reviewing it, But I see a few of the things I ate are no longer on the menu. >We were a bigger group, So to start with the place/menu is quite conducive to larger groups. The assaginni was perfect to pass around a few small plates and get everyone In the mood to eat along with some antipasti. Smoked salmon, Carpaccio, Calamari, Sausages, Prosciutto, Olives..... You get the idea. It was great. >Now that everyone was ready to eat, we ordered a healthy mix of everything they had to offer. Wild ragu gnocchi, Ribeye steak, Lamb shank, Duck, Bison cannelloni, The sorrentino pizza and 2 repeats. >I wont go over every dish but the star of the night was the Bison cannelloni. It was perfectly balanced and rich as it comes. Definitely not something I'd eat if I was on a diet, But what a plate of food! I would go back for this dish alone. The steak was done just as you would expect a steakhouse to prepare it. Very nice job there as well. The duck, Lamb shank and Ragu gnocchi were packed with flavor, Perfectly seasoned and left everyone fully satisfied. >The only criticisms I have on the night would be the duck portion was definitely on the small side, Likely 4oz of meat. For $30 I would've hoped for a bit more. The other nit pick I have was the pizza, Now don't get me wrong the crust was exactly how it should be. Slightly charred, Crunchy and just all around delicious. The toppings, I felt, took some of that away. Even though I know Italian pizza is supposed to be light and thin, I felt it was a little too sparse. Little more meat and cheese would have gone a long way. By no means were either of these dishes bad mind you.>The service was also on point, No criticisms at all. Food, Wine(lots of wine) and Anything else came out promptly, the staff were incredibly knowledgeable of the food and a pleasure to deal with. Thank you for doing it right. It's becoming a rare thing these days.>Overall this place is great, I'd recommend this to anyone for a date night or even a special occasion as we did. It's not cheap, But you certainly get value here.
Visiting Edmonton for business, my collegues took me out to dinner at Bistecca and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I had the bison steak and though it was perfect. It always seems as if specialty meats are always better in Alberta than BC. Suprising the prices here are quite reasonable for what they serve. We also tried a number of appitizers and thought they were all great. Overall a great dinner and great place to visit if you are in Edmonton for a short visit.
Reservation for dinner on route to concert at Commonwealth Stadium.
Fairly impressed.
Solid menu.
Reasonable prices.
Great ambiance.
Service...well lets just say our server seemed...overwhelmed and perhaps a little confused.
Their " Little Tastes" appi. options entices an "I'd like one of everything" responce.
I settled on the Calabrese Sausage, and the Grilled Scallops. Both quite good. Sauce with scalops I found to be on the very spicey side.
One of my favorite things is thar they offer "half orders" of pasta. So naturally..I had to try two different pastas!
House-made Bison Cannelloni, rich and delicious.
Beef Short Rib Ravioli....AMAZING. Probably the most decadent ravioli I have ever had. I...personally...highly recommend this dish!
Between the wife and I, we enjoyed 3 "little tastes", 2 half orders if pasta, one dinner of Brazed Pork Belly (from additional, seasonal menu...delicious!), one glass of wine, and a Coconut white chocolate Creme Brule (which was decadent and savory). All for $120 before tip.
We will be back!
We went on a Tuesday evening, so the establishment wasn't overly busy. The staff were very attentive. We were seated immediately. Our server gave us an excellent rendition of the menu and the daily specials. Everything was done with the utmost courtesy and professionalism.
The timing of our server was spot on for giving ample time to enjoy our cocktails, appetizers, the main course and dessert.
Food was delicious; Pasta Main and the Pork Tenderloin were our Entree's at couldn't have been better!
The offering of Cheese and a glass of wine as an after dinner delight rather than a calorie and sugar packed dessert was a really great option (Despite it being a great option we still went for the calorie & sugar!)
2 Cocktails, 2 Appetizers, 2 Main Courses and 1 Dessert came to $98...not an unreasonable price at all!!
I have to say that I eat out a lot, and Bistecca reminded me of what it meant to eat in a place that has a LOT of experience in the restaurant industry and an establishment that I interpret to REALLY CARE about your dining experience. A real dining pleasure.
Nice atmosphere. Real table cloths. Steaks were great. Service was good. Only two baby potatoes - a little chincy for an expensive dinner. I also don't like the stacked on top presentation - Very 1992. Didn't like it then.
Don't like it now. Other elements of the presentation were minimal. They succeed in reminding me of the steak placers of my youth. Over all, better then average. Not as good as Chop. Not as expensive either.
I think I've found my steak "Go To" place. My wife & I visited for the first time, she had pizza & salad, which she said was good and I had the Flat Iron Steak. The service was excellent and if my steak was any indication of their other steaks, I think I've found my "go to" place for steak dinners!
Great places but not very attentive servers.. The dinning room is beautiful, the food is impeccable, and the wine list is divine. The only thing I have to say was as nice as the server was she didn't check on us very often, and the breaks between courses was way to long. It took 45 minutes for us to get our main. But other than that I'd totally go back.
BISTECCA And The "Little Bites". We come to the Bistecca periodically(a few times a year) since this great restaurant opened. Sonny has done always done a wonderful job with the menu. Today we decided to pop in for a small "nosh" as my wife has found full meals far too large to comfortably work through. So we were introduced to the Assaggini or Little Bites. We asked Chef to give us an nicely balanced /complimentary mix of these little bites and we're completely impressed. So much so that we had to have another. Our server Shayna and Maitre'd Stefan have provided an excellent environment to enjoy our meal and compliments to both. All in all an enjoyable evening for every one to experience.
Those who have read my previous review of this restaurant know or understand that This restaurant is one of our favourites. My wife Laura and I regularly visit here and have come to the point where we just ask Sonny Sung and his excellent staff to just "make " us something. Today both

Great food and service. The atmosphere is very romantic and inviting. We went there for the first time for my birthday on a recommendation. We will definitely be coming back.
Amazing!!!. We go out Dining very often and we expect the best when we go out. If you want amazing food amazing service and a beautiful atmosphere this restaurant is for you. Our server was there to help us the whole evening he always make sure that we were looked after no matter what the situation was. We were having such a good time we spent almost 3 hours at the restaurant and the server kept coming and looking after us and making sure that we were happy. Even the manager stopped by three times to make sure that everything was good it was amazing!! If you want a truly amazing evening you need to go to Bistecca!!
Excellent!. We took our friends (who are visiting us from Ontario) to Bistecca for dinner last night to celebrate their anniversary. We have been there several times for lunch and always enjoyed it, but this was our first time for dinner. Everything was excellent. We received a very warm welcome and were seated immediately. Our server (Kevin) was absolutely outstanding. He made an excellent wine recommendation and was also very knowledgeable about the menu. Our wine and water glasses were kept topped up and he was always there when we needed him without "hovering". A true professional.
The food was also excellent. Our appetizers were very good and for their entrees our friends had the duck duo and the beef rib and both were presented beautifully and full of flavor. My wife had the angel hair pasta with prawns and it was just as good as on the other occasions she has had it. I had the penne with sausage, feta and sun dried tomato's. It was superb.
We did not mention that it was our friends anniversary, but Kevin overheard us toasting them and came over to congratulate them. After we finished our entrees he offered them a complementary Tiramisu and also brought each of us a complimentary desert wine.
All in all a wonderful evening - we will be back, and soon!
Top service good food feedback non-existant. Four of us arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly seated. The restaurant was full but it was Saturday. Tammy our server took our drink orders and they were served in 5 minutes. They were actually so good we ordered another round. Approximately 15 minutes afterwards Tammy took our orders and provided very good information about our orders. Wine was ordered and placed on the table after 5 minutes. Our aps arrived 15 minutes after placing the order. I had the mussels which were very tasty. They really need to provide a bowl of warm water with lemon to wash the fingers or a moist towelette. The mains were brought 15 minutes after we were done with the appetizers. Tammy was around to ensure everything was right. I had the New York which was good but there was a strange puree on the plate as well with a strange tasting allspice whipped in. This did not go very well with the steak so I scraped as much away from the steak as possible but remnants remained to add an unagreeable taste to the steak. This puree could have been presented on a side plate. The others at the table were very pleased with their meal as well. All in all a good experience and top notch marks for Tammy who took care of us and had a very good sense of humor. I sent in a feedback email regarding the experience and my recommendations listed above but after 3 weeks still no reply. I sent another email and was told that management would "get back to me." A shame about this lack of customer response. We may return but the puree will be ordered on the side and we will bring our own wet wipes. Bottom line is we would recommend Bistecca.
Terrible food. Great service. Thanks Jennifer
Love it. Everything about this restaurant pleased me. The atmosphere is very conducive especially for dates. The servers are professional and the food was very good. My favourite thing ever was the virgin mojito. As I do not drink alcohol, it was simply the best virgin mojito I have had in any restaurant in Edmonton. I would highly recommend this place.
Highly Recommend. My husband and I visited Bistecca for the first time this past Saturday evening. I had the Bison Canneloni and he had the Lamb. We both found the food to be EXCEPTIONAL! The service provided by Deb was outstanding with a wonderful dose of humour! Will definitely be back!
Had a great meal at Bistecca, the food was awesome, good selection of wine and Deborah was quick and friendly.
Special Anniversary Dinner. This was our second consecutive anniversary at Bistecca Italian Steakhouse. Similar to last time, the food was outstanding, as were the service and ambiance. Considering the quality and ambiance, I found the price to be quite reasonable--$100 including wine for a couple. We will definitely return and ask for Jennifer, who took great care of us.
Best Service in Town. Had a fantastic evening last week. Deborah took care of us and the service was amazing. Extensive wine knowledge and the food was fantastic. You can tell she really loves her job. Try the prawn appetizer, still dreaming about it. Mmmm....
We had a great evening with our cousins from out of town. Deb looked after us well.
First timers. GREAT FOOD! AMAZING SERVICE!
THANKS TAMMY!
I came in last night with my husband and had a wonderful time. We ordered the pork tenderloin and the rib eye and it was amazing. Our server Debbie was delightful. She was very knowledgable and attentive. Will absolutely return!:)
Amazing!. Decided to try Bistecca for the first time last night. My bison cannelloni was delicious and my husband's Bistecca rib-eye was amazing! Perfectly cooked! A nice surprise was "happy hour" prices on our wine because we dined early. Tammy was a great server, very attentive and fun. We will definitely go back for more!
Awesome! !. Came here for valentine's day dinner the service was awesome..Vito was such a great server friendly and super funny :) will definitely be back
Great food but even better service. We have been to Bistecca many times and have always had a fabulous meal! What really keeps us coming back is the fantastic service - our favorite gal is Deb - she treats us like family and we love her. Keep treating us so good and we will continue to be regulars!! Cheers, Andy, Lorie & Chandra
We visited Bistecca while in town from Calgary. Friends had recommended it to us and we are very glad we went! Food was delicious (I had the Ribeye and prawns---cooked to perfection) and our server (Deb) was very helpful in pairing the wine with our dinner choices. We will be back!
Both Michael and Stephen were astounding. The customer service provided was remarkable. We came to celebrate a birthday with a party of 6 and there is not one thing we would have changed. The customer service was bar non amazing bit to mention great food. Highly recommended for both food and service.
Good but the rib eye disappointed.... We loved the wine, calamari, gnocchi and filet with sides of asparagus and scallops but the rib eye was grisly, tough and flavorless. We would be back to try more of the pasta and probably some dessert but will probably steer clear of steak again. Server seemed very busy, taking care of 6 tables on her own. Not very personal service. Great decor and ambience otherwise.
All in all, excellent food. Their meat is always well made if a little under seasoned. My gnocchi was a little tough but lamb was delicious. Bistecca is a family favorite for this reason.
Date Night. After a long 30 second awkwardness of the "Handle Bar" host checking his smart phone, my wife and I were finally acknowledged. We were introduced to our waiter Mackenzie. He was very knowledgeable about both the food and wine menu and was very good at his job. The food tonight was more than great! Dinner feature was beyond good and it would be hard to say anything bad about the whole dining experience. I will be returning for sure and only hope that the greeting from the host improves.
Great food, great service. Some of the previous reviews and comments here do not reflect the experience that our family had last night. Our service was top notch. I can’t remember our waitresses name, but, she was lovely. She overheard that we were celebrating our son’s birthday, and she sent him home with a complimentary dessert. The host overheard that I had forgotten my reading glasses, and he offered me a pair to use.
Our table was a nice round table near a window, and, this restaurant does not blast the music, so you can actually have a conversation.
Our steaks were done to perfection. Reading previous comments about the steaks being dry – they were probably ordered well done. We always order ours med-rare, or rare.
We went to this restaurant on a whim. Didn't need a reservation and they had a table ready for us within 10 minutes. I called from outside and asked to make a reservation for the next table rather than going inside and waiting. The service was poor and the waiter was pretentious and quite ill mannered. However I still highly rate this restaurant because my company enjoyed the atmosphere and my food was delicious. We had the prawn starter and it was extremely well prepared. I ordered the pork tenderloin and we all agreed that mine was the best at the table. It was delicious! They have an amazing maple reduction sauce for the meal. I would order an extra side of sauce next time. I believe while the prices were higher it was very fair for the food. Our bill was only 150.00 for 3 people and we shared the one appetizer and all of us had dessert. Enjoy this restaurant for its delicious food! It's easy to ignore the bad service if you being good company to dine with you.
Great Service - Food Not Bad. We found the mustachioed maître d’ to be an excellent host. Handsome, old world charm, reserved, and efficient. If you prefer your hosts to be hostesses with bubbly over eager personalities, heels and short skirts, this is not the place for you.
The ambiance of the restaurant was noisy this night. I was in attendance with my husband's office Christmas party, and we were seated at a table for 18 plunk in the middle of the dining room. Adjacent to us was another large table celebrating a birthday. Surrounding us were intimate tables for two to four, which, without us occupying the centre of the room, would be quite cozy.
Despite the large groups, the service was impeccable. We had two servers at our table, and we were never left waiting or wanting for anything.
As a group, we had two or three choices from each of a pre-set appetizer, main and dessert menu. My salad was fresh and tasty, the steak cooked perfectly (but with a few chewy bits), and the accompanying vegetables were stone cold. Dessert was an orgasmic white chocolate tiramisu served in a edible chocolate bowl.
If my husband and I and I were dining on our own, I may have sent my dinner back to be re-done. But as we were guests, and having a grand time, didn't want to be the diva at the table slowing the pace of supper.
We liked it despite the Matradee. This review is a bit late. We were there earlier this fall. Simply put, we liked it. We found the wait staff and the food quite good. I had the ribeye and it was cooked perfect medium rare. The others at the table enjoyed their meat and pasta dishes as well. We enjoyed the food and our waiter. But, like the title says the Matradee is something. We did have a reservation and were dressed in what would be considered "smart casual". This pretentious jerkoff needs to understand that his clientel has disposable income and is why a place like Bistecca exists. We didn't go there to impress you; we went there because we like trying new places and can afford to do it. I'm as happy eating at a hot dog cart downtown as I am going to Bistecca for a nicely done steak. A Matradee can create a fun and memorable evening. Anybody that's been on a cruise knows how ALL staff can make a meal very enjoyable and memorable. This guy is memorable but not in a good way. The constant negative comments about him makes me wonder what exactly the Sorrentino Group is thinking. Obviously, he must be tied to the group in some way. We'll be back despite this loser and will be sure to give him the same respect he gives us.
What a treat! The atmosphere was cozy and music the guitar playing was really good. The service was pleasant as well. I had a New York strip steak that was to die for- and only needed a butter knife to cut! My husband had bison which was delicious and tender as well. Dessert also was perfect, a chocolate torte for my husband and a pastry filled with banana and hazelnut chocolate. Was the perfect amount. We will definitely be back, it was a wonderful way to spend an anniversary dinner!
Excellent experience from start to finish. Salad, mussels, entrees (arctic char, veal scallopini, flat iron steak) and dessert were fabulous! The wine was great as well, a nice Cabernet Sauvignon. Our group of 3 enjoyed the whole meal, the ambiance and the waiter's great service!! Well worth it!!
Very welcoming, hospitable staff. We popped in for dinner on Saturday night, as pasta lovers we often frequent their downtown location but we’re in the area and noticed they’d recent opened a new location in South / Century Park. Upon arrival we were instantly greeted by friendly host who found us a table right away despite our lack of reservation. Our server was great, very friendly and hospitable. It turns out it was the last night of their traditional Garlic Festival.
Last couple of times Sorrentino's were okay and before I started do reviews. However this time I am impressed and its improvement.
The food here is good.
The appetizers we ordered was beet salad, flat bread and tomatoe sauce based mussels. The sauce in the mussels is good but you wish they give you more bread to mop up the sauce. It has a nice tangy flavour.
Penne Arrabiata is good as it has the nice spicy kick not overwhelming that overwhelms your tastebuds. Even the penne was cooked al dente with a bit of resistance. I forgot what the others ordered but I have provided pictures. However they are good.
Dessert was good too bad panna cotta was sold out.
The only negative I have to say is that beet salad is disappointing. I noticed there were a couple beets considering this is a beet salad I was expecting a bit more.
Service is excellent!! Our waitress is funny and attentive. She even gave a suggestion to start an email account for new born babies to show them when they get older.
I would come back again.
Came here before the Garth Brooks concert. Our meal was superb and the service was even better. All staff members were incredibly friendly and the owner was helping out where he could, chatting up tables and ensuring everyone was enjoying themselves. Will definitely return, thanks for a great meal!
Great service. Clean. Modern. On the fancy side. Great food. Fresh and tasty. Great cocktails. Expensive. But worth it for a good evening out. Good sized portions. You will not have room for dessert, which was also great! They also have a BYOWine (free corkage)..reminded me of my Montreal days!! Patio open as well. Seemed like they had a wood pizza oven going on (but we never tried the pizza).
Went there to night to celebrate 3 birthdays in my family and I’m just in awe with the wonderful service we received. The food was fantastic and exceeded expectations as well. Thank you to the staff, manager and kitchen for delivering a exceptional experience for my family!
Went there about a month and some ago for GARLIC FEST. The food was so good, but kinda pricey. We went there on a sunday night. I thought it was a nice restaurant so me and my date dressed up quite nice. We were sat on the main path through the restaurant, right next to the only other table in the place, a family with screaming babies.
We ordered garlic knots (yummmmm), and I had a seafood linguine (with garlic). Everything was very tasty, and our server was super nice. The whole vibe of the place was just weirdly dead though.
Walter was able to accommodate party of 12 . We had such a wonderful evening with delicious food . Our Waiter was fabulous the entire staff so friendly. Excellent service . We will be back .
