Review Lux Steakhouse And Bar - Edmonton

This place is an experience! The staff was so welcoming and friendly. The menu is not large but has a fantastic selection. The service felt a little slow but they were so friendly and the food was so good. We had a great time visiting and enjoyed our drinks. I had the surf and turf, it was delicious! My steak was cooked perfectly and the creamed spinach tasted so good. Be prepared for a large bill but this place delivers great service, excellent drink selection, delicious food and a wonderful dining experience.

Absolutely amazing experience. Chelsea was so friendly and helpful with selections. Even the GM and Chef came by to make sure our meal was great and chat. The Steaks were DELICIOUS. Because of the amazing service we are going back on Friday for a Tomahawk. The Google star rating is way too low for what they provide! Go check it out and add your own 5 star reviews after you do so. Let's get that Google rating up!!

First time back in nearly two years! The food was as fantastic as I remember and the service was even better! Had the pleasure of having Cass as our server and she was phenomenal. Definitely someone who excels in delivering a superior customer service experience!

Absolutely wonderful! Food, cocktails, wine, service, fellow diners, all top notch! Can't wait til life allows me to go back and order the Eagle wine!

The food did not meet my expectation, specially for the hefty menu price. I was expecting some Vancouver fine dining experience but working in the industry, this is Sysco quality food. Nothing from scratch. Paid $180 for two not worth it at all. I can get their steak at a chain restaurant for half the price, same quality maybe better. Oh well!

We went here tonight for my boyfriends birthday. There was a big group of us including 2 kids. All of our meals were delicious and had huge portions! We were able to share most of the sides with everyone at the table. We even got a free desert on the house which we weren’t expecting! The staff went above and beyond and we were all very impressed with the service.

Amazing food, and even better service! Joanne, our server was amazing. We will be back for sure?

My coworkers brought me here for the first time. They are regulars and have been waiting for this place to open up since Covid. All I have to say is I'll definitely come back! The atmosphere is great and our server Mark went above and beyond. My favorite starter was the beef tartare and for main course the lobster Mac and cheese, which I had no time to take a photo of. It was too good.

My husband Alistair and I were in town for a w/e get a way and asked our Westin concierge Luke for a special place for a special evening and he immediately suggested Lux. Even made the reservation for us. Our server Mark was knowledgable and succinct. The atmosphere wonderful and the food......well, simply put, it was divine ! The Truffled Lobster Mac'n Cheese is simply beyond words - savoury, rich, decadent. The bernaise sauce with the shrimp was the best we've ever tasted and all was cooked to perfection. A special treat for me was the Beef Carpaccio - simply melt in your mouth pleasure. Followed by the nights special of rack of lamb with blueberry and mint - served with roasted beets an a room temper parsnip puree. We topped it all off with the rich chocolate cake. Please invite us back!

My husband and I made reservations at Lux to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We arrived early, and we were informed that the dining room was not yet open but we were welcome to take a table in the lounge. We accepted, and because we had access to the full menu we never moved to a table in the dining room. Upon arrival, there was two gentlemen seated in the booth next to us (one of which we quickly determined was the manager). He proudly announced that he had made it his personal goal not to get up once tonight. We were seated for close to 2 hours, and during that time he never got up from the table, true to his word. A server came to him to ask him to take a call from a customer, to which he responded that he wouldn't take her call without more information. He asked the server to take down her information so that he could call her tomorrow. During the course of the two hours we spent at dinner we had to listen to his loud, booming voice complain and talk down about his job, his co-workers and an excessive use of the "F bomb" during his conversations. Our server did an outstanding job, and if I could remember her name I would give her the credit she deserves and note that she was not involved with him in any way. The food was also amazing, and well worth the trip downtown. I'm unfortunately sadly disappointed about the ambience that the manager provided for us on such a special occasion. It was unprofessional for him to act the way he did, and he soured the overall experience for me.

Nice atmosphere.. food is very good! Fyi beef carpaccio should be served with thin bread not long very thin potato chips with too much salt Three appetizers should not take 45min to come out with a restaurant that isn't full. Our lounge server with the plastic surgery addiction was awful, we had another server check on us before she even arrived asking if we had been waited on after being seated for 10-15min. We had to push our 10 minute old empty drinks to the edge of the table to notify our server we'd like another. And when asked for the bill with card in hand she latter arrived asking if a machine was required.. I'd go elsewhere based on the service alone, but that aside I would definitely recommend people try it!

Awesome food and service. Couldn't believe they have halal options. Our server not only suggested halal meat also explained about all the sauces and removed stuff that we couldn't eat. I was surprised about his knowledge of muslim food. Definitely going there again

Our waiter was super professional and the food was awesome. 100% would recommend.

One of the best restaurants in Edmonton. The food is excellent, the service from the staff is fantastic. And the ambiance of the establishment is first class.

Be prepared to spend $150+ for 3 people. But be prepared to want to pay it again. The service is a step above the rest and the food is high quality. The atmosphere is very specious and it's not too packed usually. Would recommend.

Celebrated my birthday there and everything was exceptional. Will Definitely go back and recommend to others

Unfortunately, we had our second consecutive abysmal experience here. Reservation at 5, and some of group arrived about 5:15. Slow, only two other tables at the time, and server didn't come by to take drink order promptly - waited about 10 minutes. Ordered food at 5:30 and it arrived at 6:50. Only one visit to table by server in that 80 minutes. Flagged a manager and told them and they apologized, but weren't proactive enough and didn't check in. They did comp a round of drinks and give a small discount, but should have done more to show they cared. Food was okay but not remarkable.

Went Saturday night with my wife. Had a very nice appetizer. I ordered steak special medium rare but when it came it was well done. I told our server James who was awesome he took it back but by time i got a new steak i had eaten everything else and my wife had finished her meal. Disappointed i think that will be our last time dinning at Lux

Great food And i love the roasted bone marrow! Our fave steakhouse so far!

If you plan on going to the restaurant try not to get Sammy as a server. She was not good at all. Not very friendly or attentive. Had to ask for every little thing. Didn't even ask us how our meals were. Not impressed with the service we received.

Me and my gf were in Edmonton for the Oil/Ducks game recently...my buddy mentioned that Ryan Smyth had a restaurant close to the arena...so we walked over and had some pregame drinks...didn't have a reservation, but were able to get into the lounge and sit down...service was good, we ordered some steak bites, they were phenomenal....all in all...had a good time there...will definitely be going back.
Connie Lee Harrison
The food was amazing. We had a table at Bar 94 rather than the restaurant. Wanted to check out Smytty's place.
Christian Schmuland
Thanks for taking care of us last night... the food and service were outstanding! You made our big night out even more awesome.
Foodie-ness89
Had supper here with a couple clients before the hockey game on a saturday night. We were able to be seated last minute without a reservation. Our waitress was fantastic and recommended choices that would come out faster so that we wouldn’t miss the game. Delicious food and quick prompt service! The 9oz tenderloin filet steak came out perfect medium rare, the sides of grilled asparagus and mashed potato were fantastic and we were all happy with our meal! Loved the classic cocktails menu in the polished modern dining setting at this upscale urban steakhouse.Would definitely recommend!

I think this place has two of the best burgers in Edmonton. especially the black label burger. Not a lot of fillers, really good flavour, decently priced for the quality.

Was very disappointed with the service there..First of all, the beer came out flat..it took forever to have it changed for the bottled one. The appetizer, that I have ordered was good and came out on time. The main dish was alright, nothing special. The server never came to check out on my meal. It was not busy in the restaurant when I was there, but I have seen servers chatted to each other and didn't pay too much attention to their customers.

I am so disappointed.  <br/><br/>A 30th birthday only happens once in a person's lifetime.  It should be celebrated.  When that goes sideways, you would hope that the management team of the restaurant would step up.  This was not the case.<br/><br/>This is not my first bad experience with this particular restaurant, but I went out of love and respect for my dear friends. <br/><br/>There were 20 of us.  The reservations were made several weeks prior to the actual date.  Plenty of time to find sufficient amounts of staff to make sure that the night goes smoothly.<br/><br/>We arrived at 6:45.  We did not receive appetizers until around 8 pm.  We did not get our mains until almost 10 pm.  Glasses remained empty.  <br/><br/>The appetizers were good.  <br/><br/>Several of the guests wanted to leave before the mains arrived.  We were all frustrated at how long we had to wait.  <br/><br/>When the entrees finally came out, 3 of us had to send our steaks back because they were under-cooked.  One of them was sent back twice.  Two of them came back so hard and tough that they were inedible.  Ribeyes should never be tough.<br/><br/>There was no Manager to be seen.  The Hostess came out with $25 gift certificates that had an expiry date of March to be used "next time" we came in.  No compensation was offered for the current bill or bad experience.  <br/><br/>The three hour wait for food caused me personally to miss the first two bands of a show that I was attending that night.  The bills took forever for the server to get sorted out.  I did not get home until after 11 pm.  <br/><br/>When you go to a restaurant that is supposed to be a higher than average experience, you would expect a stellar meal for the higher price point on the menu.  <br/><br/>Needless to say, I will not be back again.

It's been a few years since my last visit to LUX and I was pleasantly surprised by our meal that evening. While LUX is branded as a steakhouse I like that there are modern twists and unexpected surprises on the menu. There are some premium prices that would prevent it from being your go-to restaurant, but it's a great spot downtown for your next special occasion or celebratory meal.

My fiancé and I decided to go to LUX/Bar94 for dinner before the hockey game as we had tickets to go watch at Rogers Place and because it was our anniversary today so we thought we would go some where nice. We didn't make a reservation as we decided on going last minute but there was only room to eat at Bar94 because they had a private function in the restaurant itself. The game started at 8:30pm so we were at LUX by 6:00pm and thought that was sufficient time to eat and walk over to the arena after. Boy were we wrong. After sitting at the only table left at Bar94, we perused the menu quickly as we had been at LUX several times before so we knew the menu quite well. We then waited patiently for the waitress to take our order. After our orders were taken, the wait staff kindly asked us to move to a smaller table as they were expecting a bigger party to arrive shortly.; and so we agreed to move. When we moved to the smaller table, the waitress gave us one napkin and two forks to use for the appetizer as she mentioned, when she walked by our table, that these were just extras she had so it was more like she was just off-loading stuff from her tray on to our table. There was mistake number one. Then we finally received our beef carpaccio at around 6:30pm and we were glad to finally have food on our table. I had to ask the waitress for another napkin as we only had the one. We were starving at that point so we essentially inhaled the carpaccio and waited patiently for our entrees. We waited and waited and waited some more and then we noticed this couple that was sitting next to us because we remembered them walking in as we had sat near the door initially before moving. This couple had arrived about 45 minutes after we did. In less than one hour, this couple managed to get both their appetizers and both their entrees with a side in less than one hour, while we were still sitting there and this was already at 7:30pm still waiting for our entree to come out. By this time, we had already been there for an hour and a half and we were STILL waiting for our entree. The ironic part is that the entree we ordered, including the side, was exactly the same as the couple that was sitting next to us. So we know for a fact that it's not because our entrees took look to make (I ordered the surf'n'turf, medium rare, and my fiancé ordered the NY steak, rare, with a side of truffle mac and cheese). Upon seeing the meal that was served to the couple next to us, even though they had literally only been there for just an hour now, we were absolutely furious. I kept hearing that they may have been VIP but last time I checked, we were in an economic downturn and Edmonton is not rich with people who have money any more to spend frivolously on fine dining only to receive bad service like this. You still need the 'non VIPs' to come eat at your restaurant in order for you to sleep soundly at night knowing that you have made enough money so that you won't have to close down like so many restaurants and businesses in Edmonton. The game started at 8:30pm, we still needed time to walk to the arena, and we still haven't received our food even though we had asked the waitress at 7:30pm to see what the status was for our order. When we asked our waitress (we were obviously getting inpatient at this point considering everything we noticed with the couple next to us) how much longer for our food, she got 'sassy' with us and just kind of replied with "Yeah yeah yeah." She then said it should be coming out soon. So we said fine we'll stay but we both decided that if our food didn't arrive by 7:45pm (any later we wouldn't have time to finish eating our meal properly and walk over to the arena), we would just leave. The time came and it was 7:45pm and STILL, our food was no where to be seen. I stormed to where the wait staff was standing and told them that we had been waiting for almost two hours for our entree from the time we ordered it and we are leaving as we have other engagements to attend. We essentially just stormed out and we were not at all paying for what ever we had consumed as this was just absolutely ridiculous at this point. The waitress or manager did not even at all offer to pay for our appetizer and drink until I had stormed up to them and only then were they apologetic and offering to cover the cost. There are just way too many mistakes to count and as a previously loyal customer to LUX and Bar94, I will no longer be coming back to this establishment and take my business else where. Our anniversary was ruined tonight by this establishment's lack of good customer service and we left hungry.

Been here a couple times and will return. Pretty much as expected. Food is really good. Mite be a tad expensive for what you get, but I will continue to go there. Lobster Mac and cheese was probably the best dish I have had so far

I need a good steak and a glass of wine, Lux was where I was told to go when in Edmonton. Hmmmm.... Not too sure. I'm hungry, sit at Bar, quiz the bartender on th menu offerings to plan my attack. She didn't know the wines or the food menu at all. Not a great start. Order tuna cruda, don't bother, bland and blah..I had to send it back, and I never do that . Was thoroughly ignored by bartender after that. Next to no service now. Ordered Angus steak and side of truffle fries, side and orange zest Brussel sprouts. Everything was just OK. Not seasoned well, and cooked so so... service was lacking, more staff at the bar than customers, who got all the attention from bartender. Definitely can find better value for $$ elsewhere. Not sure I will return.... <br/>

Mm lobster mac and cheese with truffle oil is delicious! Also the portion was huge. I definitely recommend using uber eats to order from them!<br/>First time you order is $20 off with code referral!<br/>Plus you don't tip uber drivers as they don't accept cash and can't play with fees.<br/>Basically I got a free delivery of a free. <br/>Hungry? Get $20 off your first order on #UberEATS with my code: eats-leahh1393ue. http://ubr.to/EatsGiveGet you have to be brand new to uber for it to work. <br/>

*Update: Dinned here again in light of DTDW2018.. very similar experience as before. Had to ask for DTDW menu. They only brought us two and we were a table of 3. They bright our soups out first and rushed off when before we realized we didn’t have any cutlery. We finally flagged another waitress down after waiting for a while.. she brought us back tea spoons and rushed off. Food was less than mediocre. This place just isn’t what it used to be. <br/><br/>Venue: Decent. I prefer to dine in the lounge <br/>Staff: I had not dined here in a few years.. The host could not find our reservation at first - either way there was a booth free in the lounge. We dined here today in light of DTDW2016 - I thought it was strange they didn't offers us the DTDW menu, we had to ask for it. Also, each restaurant should be providing DTDW diners an entry card for the DTDW contest, which also wasn't provided to us. Our waitress was kind but she seemed very rushy. <br/>Food: We each ordered the Caesar salad and the Short Rib sandwich. The sandwich was delicious - however my homemade Caesar is betta! ;P<br/>

Lux is very conveniently located for me (right across from my office in Scotia).  I usually visit 2-3 times a week for lunch.  I have pretty much tried everything on the menu, by favorites being the lobster mac and cheese and the lux burger.  Love it love it love it.

We booked a reservation for my friend's birthday four weeks prior to the date. A week before we were to go, I got a phone call saying that their online reservation system made a mistake and they could no longer take us, but if we wanted we could wait in line and try to get a seat in the lounge. I had also left messages prior to booking online and no one returned my call. When I explained that, the woman said she could comp us a dessert. Yeah, no. We won't ever try to go there again. There are way too many great places in Edmonton to eat. We went to Ampersand 27 where they took (and kept!) our reservation.

First time for both of us. We shared my favourite bottle of wine. I ordered the Surf and Turf, excited for the tenderloin and shrimp and didn't expect much from the lobster mac and cheese. When it came, the lobster mac and cheese was the BEST PART! We also shared the Brussels sprouts(amazing-sweet well roasted crispy and juicy) and twice baked potato (I did not like- very strong jalapeño taste and way too big to finish). Dessert we shared the carrot cake (icing is basically straight cream cheese which I loved, also had raisins and walnuts-amazing!!) overall awesome experience!! We had $100 worth of gift cards and our bill was $47 in the end. What a great experience!!

This was a fantastic experience in all aspects. Our server remembered me, even though it was over a year since I was last there. The steak cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The vegetables were cooked crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. This was one of the best restaurant experiences in a long time.

Would recommend this place to friends n family. Convenient location in city centre. Calamari was 3.5/5 service was 4/5! May or may not visit again.

So, normally, I find out about culinary events just after they have happened and I'm bummed that I missed it.  This time, I heard about the Mount Royal Culinary Cookoff the week before it was happening so planned to attend.  This is the 4th Annual event. Chefs from 10 great local restaurants donate their time and create a dish in line with the theme of this year's theme "Noodles and Doodles".  Awards are given for the People's Choice, Judge's Choice and Kid's Choice.  200 servings of each dish were created and when they run out, they run out and they did!  This year there were guest chefs from Craft Beer Market, El Cortez Tequilla Bar & Kitchen, LUX Steakhouse...

Lots to complain about. Where to begin? At the beginning, I guess. My daughter and her friends had always warned me to never go to Lux as it was overpriced and mediocre. However, I was given a $100 gift certificate for the Century Group for Christmas, my birthday dinner was looming and since I have celiac, the gluten free menu did look really good!<br/><br/>Anyway, my partner and I were seated after walking through the noisy bar to get to the dining room. Just as we were seated, the table of two next to us were in revolt and angry, having waited for over an hour for food that didn't come. Managers and servers flew around trying to appease them and managed to make that food appear instantaneously so they were placated, but we were dubious.<br/><br/>Anyway, our appetizers were good, the service (Paris) very efficient and friendly, the cocktails were super dull considering how much they cost. My biggest complaint was the steaks; I almost never order steak but I was in the mood. Was I disappointed. I like mine medium rare but have found over the last few years that medium rare comes rare so I've been ordering medium. What I got was tough, dry and I was unable to eat it. Took it home and made stew out of it the next day. I ordered brussels sprouts that were actually raw, had to be returned for "recooking." By the time they came back, I had lost my enthusiasm for them.<br/><br/>One more thing; the restaurant is shallow and runs the width of the building; the front door is right in the middle, so every time someone entered a wind blew through the whole room. Plus, there is no place for new customers to wait so they all piled up inside the restaurant while the cold wind blew in behind them. Not pleasant for a romantic birthday dinner.<br/><br/>Was it horrible? No. Did it cost us a lot? No, thank goodness for the $100 gift certificate. Would I ever go back? Never. Lux demonstrates all that has become typical of service in Edmonton - low standards. I notice the management goes on about the high standards of the chefs at Century Group, etc. If this is a demonstration of high standards, I guess they really don't know what good food is. We travel in the US a lot and are always depressed to come back home and be exposed to the general low standards of service and quality that has become so synomymous with the Canadian experience.

Fine dining at its best. The food and service was amazing! The atmosphere was inviting and warming, not your typical style steakhouse eatery but one for sure I'd visit again for a nice night out!

Worst Service.. Merdiocre food at best = Bad Place to Go... I want to start of by saying I don't recommend this place to anybody!!<br/><br/>After getting babysitters for the kids, my wife and I including two other couples went for an evening of drinks and food to LUX Steakhouse for a Valentines day dinner at 8:30 PM. Carla our waitress single handily ruined the night for all of us by presenting us with the prime example of how not to treat customers at a restaurant. From the second we walked in and sat down she seemed annoyed, tense and rushed to serve us... her mannerisms and rude comments destroyed our night at LUX. Before we even looked at the menu she was asking what we wanted to drink with an annoyed look on her face.. after asking for some more time she came back within minutes asking again what we wanted to drink, confused my friend ordered the first cocktail he saw in the menu for everybody at the table in order to give us some time to breath. This continued all night.. even when I asked questions about certain dishes on the menu she answered them in a manner that everybody at the table felt uncomfortable and questioned, "What was wrong with her".. When my wife asked to sample one of the served by the glass wines she responded, " Ughh I'll see", and left. <br/>Not use to this type of treatment we continued to make the best out of the night, as we don't get opportunities every night to go out, because we all have children and trustworthy babysitters can be hard to get at times.<br/>My friend ordered Lobster which came out bad, it had a flaky texture close to that of fish and everybody at the table agreed that it looked uneatable, he pointed that out to Carla and instead of replacing it or taking it off the tab she offered a free dessert which when the bill came she conveniently "forgot" to remove it... in front of us annoyed she snapped her finger and crumpled the bill and ran off.. no apology or nothing.<br/>For a $700 dollar bill I made sure she got the appropriate tip from all of us.. next to nothing. We always tip appropriately 20% especially when there is a larger table but in this case her tip was appropriate. The worst thing was how her personality suddenly changed when it was time to pay, she looked happy and made some pleasant comments... this made every body at the table angry and it was visible. <br/>The food at LUX is mediocre at best for the premium price you pay which is at pair with great restaurant such at the Hardware Grill, Red Oxx Inn and the Harvest Room at the Hotel MacDonald. The table as a whole felt the same way.. the food is okay, nothing special and would of rather went to Cactus Club or Joeys to get a better meal for less money and better service.<br/>We do regret not talking to a manager about our experience when it was happening at the moment but my wife did call in to share our experience with the manager the day after.. hoping some changes will occur so that future so customers don't get the same experience we did... We'll never go back.

Rude staff. We were a few minutes late for our reservation and one of the greeters was incredibly rude about it. They obviously shouldn't treat paying customers like that. He acted like this was an amazing establishment, which its not. It's an average steakhouse overcharging for what you get. I recommend going to Hardware Grill, Woodwork, Rge Rd, or even The Keg before coming here.

I had a lunch at Lux and it was extremely good. Our server was courteous and efficient and the food fantastic
DutchParty
Disappointing if not pretentious. Asked for a rare steak, which arrived well done. As with most steak restaurants this one overcooks their (pricey) steaks too - ruining what should have been a nice steak experience. I don't mind paying above average for food but got a well below average experience.

Some of the tastiest appetizers ever!. If you like sashimi with a flair, try In the Raw. It was one of the most impressive appetizers I have ever seen and eaten. When the two plates arrived, they were food art. Colourful, textured, everything to tempt your senses. Carpaccio, tartare, oysters and a curious looking jar with a lid. What's in the jar? Salmon that is being smoked as you savour the other fresh bites. Crispy, thinly sliced bread with a drizzle of basalmic vinegar. Once the jar is opened, the smell of smoke will gently rise. I cannot say enough about this dish. World class.

9 of us went to Lux for a friends Birthday expecting great food, drinks and service. What we got was excuses! Excuses for service beings slow. Excuses for late drinks and for cold food. It was nice of the manager to comp our meal but the fact we expected a fabulous night and didn't get it is unacceptable! We also had to demand an apology. Reluctantly we got one from the manager and the server. All of us will never eat here again!!

Anniversary Lunch. Enjoyed celebrating our anniversary with lunch at Lux. Service was friendly, wine was great and the food was excellent.

I recently went to Lux and sat in the lounge and Alicia served me with professionalism, charm and recommended some great dishes. I want to thank you for having such a great server. Made my day<br/><br/><br/>I recently dined at this restaurant and was very impressed by the team of servers. The food was amazing especially the steak tartar From the appies to the dessert, very impressed! Would like to thank Sean for his professional and immediate service and consistence in dealing with our party! Will always return and appreciate the friendly staff.

4/5 for LUX. I've heard about LUX for a long time. It's been open for almost as long as I've lived in Edmonton and this Downtown restaurant has often been heralded as having the best steak in the city. This is something that I had to find out for myself.<br/>The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a downtown steakhouse; modern, cosmopolitan, elegant. Beautiful finishes as far as the eye can see. And the place is huge, too. You can either enter the restaurant from the street on 101st or from inside Commerce Place. This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you are living in a big city and going out for a special night. We got seated at a comfortable U-shaped booth, with plush leather seating. Groups of tables nearby were busy laughing loudly and living their fabulous downtown lifestyles.<br/><br/>First: Drinks. Twisted Caesar (Absolut Twist vodka, dash of pickle juice, green pepper Tabasco, Worcestershire, garnished with a dill pickle - $7.00 for 1oz). As someone who loves caesars, I was impressed at their selection of nine different concoctions to choose from. I liked this one a lot because it was very pickley and full of strong flavour. One of the better caesars that I've had for sure!<br/><br/>The menu is quite extensive, offering a vast array of choices, and especially steaks. Lots of steaks. Everything from the raw bar sounded enticing, I was disappointed not to see a wedge salad, and although the Lobster Poutine sounded incredible, we settled on the Bison Gyoza (House made dumplings, mandarin-cucumber salsa, honey basil sauce - $14.00) to start with. These were crisp pouches of golden deliciousness. The minced bison inside was juicy, and the dumpling's outer shell combined just the right toothsome combination of chewy resistance. The idea of "east meets west" works well in this dish. Paired perfectly with the sauce, these were a nice way to kick off a meal.<br/><br/>I normally favour ordering a filet when I go out for steak but our attention was very easily swayed towards the ‘Lap of LUXury’ (24oz Prime bone-in ‘lollipop’ ribeye, grilled prawns, asparagus, hollandaise, cabernet demi glace, truffle lobster mac n’ cheese, potatoes au gratin - $94.00) which is supposed to be perfect for sharing. Normally you have to order your sides extra, so this seemed like an excellent way to get a little bit of everything, all included. We ordered our 24oz ribeye to be cooked medium-rare and I was happy to see that LUX proudly serves 100% antibiotic & hormone free Spirit View Ranch Heritage Angus, Alberta AAA or Prime steaks & chops. This meal takes a little bit of time to prepare, so it's best to sit back and relax until it arrives... Because when it does, there will be some work to do!<br/>The presentation was stunning. For me, the highlights were the potatoes au gratin and the truffle lobster mac n' cheese. Both were simply incredible and delicious. I don't know what it was about those potatoes, but I could have eaten them all! They were cheesy, but there was lots of that crispy over-baked cheese on the sides. YUM. The mac n' cheese was ultra creamy and the truffle flavour was prevalent. The chunks of lobster were plentiful as well.<br/>The steak was cooked to perfection, but unfortunately I found it a little bit tough. I mean, it was good... But I've had better. I really did expect just a little bit more out of what was supposed to be "the best steak ever." Everything else was very nice and served as excellent accompaniments. The shrimp were tender and I loved the lemony hollandaise.<br/><br/>Our server was also wonderful and professional. So friendly and good at what he does! We let him know that we were in a bit of a rush near the end of our meal, and he was so quick to get everything finished up for us so that we could get out of the door. The manager even came to speak to us during our meal to make sure that everything was going well.<br/>LUX definitely knows what they are doing. They've been around the block long enough to be experts at what they do. The quality of the food is very good. Next time I would order the filet, and I'm sure that it would be true perfection.

Lux has the best steak in town! Always cooked to perfection when we come down and the sides we've tried have all been fantastic! We will be regulars for years to come!

Sublime. The restaurant was classy and lofty. The service was exquisite and ultra professional. I loved my meal and my colleagues did too. I wanted to lick my plate but obviously Lux isn't the restaurant to do that. <br/>Thank you so much for a nice surprise

Good food, great service! Our priciest meal in Edmonton!. On the recommendation of work colleages, we decided to try LUX! We are glad we did!<br/>We requested to be seated in the rear lounge area on the high top tables, ambience is good with sexy low lighting. The lighting was quite flattering and Dave#2 never looked better. It felt like a mens club in the lounge as there were no female diners on a Wednesday night, sausage festival all the way. <br/>I ordered a classic Ceasar and Dave#2 had his usual dark beer. We were served by the lovely Serena, this girl provided excellent service, she has a beaming personality which really added to our LUX experience. When Serena was busy the bartender jumped in to make sure everyone was taken care of, great teamwork!<br/>I ordered the Meatloaf and Dave the 8oz New York steak. My meatloaf was a very large portion served over garlic potatoes which were a tad gummy. Initially I had 5 green peas but one rolled off onto floor. The tiny teeny 3 carrots dressed the top, perhaps it was a bad crop this year. Whatever happened to equal portions? Odered a side of peppercorn sauce, glad I did as it went really well with the dish, up charge of $3.00 for the peppercorn.<br/>Dave loved his steak and also hunkered down on a side of Lobster Mac & Cheese....yummy! I was just too stuffed to fist it into my mouth and belly. Dave seemed to lap it up like a dog in heat. <br/>All in it was a very nice meal. <br/>We capped the night off with a few Kilkenny's around the corner at Sherlock Holmes!

Not LUXury, but good!. I've been to Lux many times for business lunches and I've had the cobb and tomato salads, salmon tacos, steak sandwich, ahi tuna melt, clubhouse, fish and the new york steak. Everything has always been quite enjoyable and solid. You get what you expect. No more, no less. <br/><br/>It is a bit pricer of a place for lunch, but keep in mind the better atmosphere and service which is hard to find as Edmonton's downtown core is severely lacking in finer dining options.<br/><br/>I'm sure to be back again for lunch while I'm slightly apprehensive to try it out for dinner.

Great service. Booked a reservation for 25 for a Sat evening and they were extremely accommodating. They answered all my questions beforehand as I had never been to the restaurant before. The service was great. We had two servers dedicated to our section and both were on the ball with clearing plates and taking drink orders. They were both very friendly and certainly treated the guest of honor with extra special detail. We thought it was kind of odd that the steaks were served a la carte, and the sides were so big you had to share them.. kind of made it difficult to order because I had to find somebody who wanted the same type of side as me.. so I stuck with the rack of lamb that came with its own sides. The lamb was delicious and the risotto that came with it was was perfection. The green beans, however, were overcooked and rubbery and the blackberry compote wasn't my cup of tea..I pushed it to the side. My boyfriend had the surf and turf. Again, the steak was cooked perfectly and the mac and cheese that came with it was cooked well. I had never tried lobster mac and cheese, so i stole a bite but didn't care for the flavors. I also tried fresh oysters for the first time. They were delicious though I found it weird that one was very small and the other was 4 times bigger. They missed the request of horseradish at first, but I ended up cancelling it since I already downed the oysters anyway. At the end, we brought our own cake and the staff cut and served it to us free of charge. Half of my party had already left so we donated the rest of the cake to the staff.. I hope they enjoyed it. The restaurant itself was comfortable, though the table we were at was pretty tightly squished together.. we were relieved when a couple people left early and we were able to get rid of the chairs and relax a bit. In the future, I would recommend that for a party that large, they should try to make two rows of tables close together vs one very long table. It made it a little difficult to socialize. This was only , of course, because the private function room was booked before us.

Sadly very disappointed. After picking this place for nostalgia reasons, a friend and I chose Lux for our pre-Christmas lunch. The mushroom soup was clear broth, a piece of mushroom and some steak, bland, cold. Not at all like we expected. I had the steak bite sandwiches, which took over 1/2 hour to get, and were cold, my friend has the bison gyoza. Her gyoza showed up looking greasy, were cold and had some spice which she couldn't figure out but was definately 'off' and she was not happy. Although our server tried to give us a dessert (we are both not sweet fans), service lacked, as did food. Not the pre-Christmas lunch we hoped for. Lux just isn't what it used to be.............................. :(<br/><br/><br/>-----22 Jul, 2013-----<br/><br/>Food was good - Wonky service. Reserved a table for 3 for Friday, arrived and sat in a booth. Food was great - special was red snapper and presentation was really good. Steak sandwich cooked to order. No refills on drinks. Asked for aioli for dip for steak and fries and requested a dill aioli received a chipotle (yuck). Had to hunt down server to get our bill, then wait for bill and then again ask her to come back with debit/credit card machine. Haven't been to Lux for awhile and 2 of the ladies I was with had never been, left a bad impression on the other two.

Perfect for our double date night. After a less than amazing experience at Delux Burger Bar we were invited back by the Century Group to make up for a less than stellar evening. The restaurant was quiet, the low lighting makes it nice after a busy day of hustle and bustle. I ordered the signature cocktail and It was delicious! A bubbly fruity drink to unwind on a Friday night among friends. We ordered the bison gyoza and lobster poutine which were very flavourful. There was plenty enough to go around for the four of us and we didn't even spoil our meals too early. <br/><br/>We enjoyed the waiter, he was attentive but also provided us with a nice pace so we didn't feel rushed and had time to sit and talk. He helped us with our choices and we were not disappointed. My husband had the Salmon, I had mini burgers and the truffle mac and cheese, our friends had steak and the burger. All of our meals were wonderfully portioned and needless to stay we stuffed ourselves to the brim. The truffle mac and cheese can be shared among FOUR people and we still managed to have some left over! a must try for cheese lovers like me :)<br/><br/>A good evening among great friends with delicious food.

Certainly not the best.. Our party of four ate at Lux last night for the first time... And probably the last time as well.<br/><br/>First - we were only able to get a reservation as late as 7:15. The restaurant was mostly empty when we got there.<br/><br/>Our waiter was entertaining and knowledgeable. He stopped us from ordering, telling us we certainly had enough food coming. He was absolutely right.<br/><br/>Our food took over half an hour. The Caesars we ordered were weak, and there was a distinct lack of any vodka in the screwdriver.<br/><br/>The lobster Mac and cheese was phenomenal, as was the steak and potato soup. The potatos au gratin were quite good. The steaks were all adequately cooked, but nothing to write home about. None of the three steaks were well seasoned.<br/><br/>The Caesar salad was dismal. The blackened chicken was only so-so, but it was cut into just three big slices, stuck on the side of the plate. Not so easy to eat, considering I hadn't been give anything other than a bread knife. The dressing lacked any flavour at all. I've had better salads at roadside diners.<br/><br/>I had high hopes for dessert. I ordered the chocolate decadence, but requested no berries at all as I am allergic. As the waiter approached, I was saddened to see the plate adorned by strawberries. A second slice of cake was produced nearly eight minutes later. By then, my friends had finished their exceedingly sweet crime brûlée. My cake was okay - tasty but just slightly dry.<br/><br/>For a meal that cost $300 dollars, I expected a whole lot more flavour.

A friend and I went there on a Thursday night, made reservations. We got there and sat in the restaurant and when we ordered drinks our waiter warned us that the drink specials are only good in the lounge. Thank god he said something! We're both broke students. So we moved to the lounge our waitress was amazing. She always made sure we had drinks I ordered the where's the beef, which was absolutely delicious. Overall amazing experience! Couldn't have been more pleased for a girl's night out.

Place is quite nice but the food is too expensive for that what you receive. Raw steak instead of medium, rice instead of risotto, etc. It was not worth to pay for this food.

Consistently Dissapointing Food. I used to work in Manufile and went to Lux quite often for lunches, dinners, and drinks.<br/><br/>If it wasn't for business I wouldn't have gone back after the third strike. On paper the menu is great...not in practice. <br/><br/>Whatever you do, don't order the Halibut for lunch, it's not enough to feed a bird. If had to pay for it, I would have complained.<br/><br/>I've had a couple mediocure lunches and 4 bad experiances. There are a couple decent fish dishes, and the steaks aren't bad.<br/><br/>It's all show at Lux, no delivery. If you have a hankering for the atmoshpere and want to give your money to the century group, walk a block to 100 where the food is a little better.<br/><br/>There is a chance you will get a good meal, but why spend that much money and chance it on a dice roll when there are a few places within a couple blocks and the same price range where you know you'll get a good meal?

Ordered 12oz NY rare. First one came back medium. Sent it back got another so undercooked the butter didnt even melt on top. Not much of a steakhouse, if you are going upper end steaks you can do better elsewhere.

It was alright. I will remember NOT to order the lobster when it's out of season - really it should be taken off the menu. The steaks were good as were most of the sides. I would avoid the mushrooms waaaay too much garlic. Dinner for 2 with drinks and gratuity was $250. I think the Keg is a better choice for surf n turf. Upside-the service was great!!
ABchivette
This place should just stick to its' strong points - nicely mixed cocktails and innovative appetizers. The lobster poutine and lobster mac n cheese are to die for and they usually have an intriguing soup of the day. Their entrees, however, are less than dazzling. The keg offers up a better steak in my opinion and for less the cost. Also, if you would like a side with your steak be prepared to pay extra as all their steaks are a la carte. The service is nice, never bad but not great. Overall, I would recommend this place for a lunch date or appetizers and drinks.
Chef
Travesty of an experience: Dont waste $40+/Entree on steaks cooked like hockey pucks and rude service. To whom it may concern, I am contacting you upon upsetting events taking place, during my friends 25th birthday on the night of Nov. 30 2012, where our party was forced to prematurely end our meal at 10:15pm, without warning or cause. Our meal took more than 45 min from ordering to its arrival, It should be noted that members of our party were upset with the doneness of their entrees, though as to not ruin our night, opinions were withheld. Our muslim friend's salad was served with bacon despite being adamant it should not touch pork prior to ordering. It was not until the celebrant mentioned issues with her meal as well as the rubberiness of her lobster that the manager intervened, after rigorous & intrusive questioning about whether it was a preference matter he asked the table in what way the entree was an issue. My friends not being cooks have no idea why the red meat was so dry, but myself being a cook, not mentioned at the time, inferred maybe the meat had sat and therefore dried and that the steaks were improperly seasoned and kept under heat. I had expressed to the gentleman that I was not bothered by the medium well 14oz strip loin that should be rare and that we were willing to pay for our share. As we waited for the dessert menu our server Michael drops a cheque in the middle of our table with numerous delayed orders which have not even made it to the table, to which an explanation was not given until it was asked of him,"are you kicking us out?" Where he responded, "Yes, your night is over." When raised issues with management over the group service charge of parties of 8 or more, when our party was only 7, it was explained that it was justified to charge us. Our bill was notedly paid in full despite being well over $400. I would like you to know and to be aware of the terrible experience I encountered at your establishment, knowing that this Chef will be passing on my experience to anyone, considering century hospitality for their dining experience, to know how LUX treats its customers.<br/><br/>Thank you!

Awesome Server, Amazing Food. Went here with my boyfriend and his family for post-grad celebrations. Our server was absolutely amazing! Totally engaging, knowledgable and helpful. He created a terrific atmosphere at our table with his enthusiasm and humor. Everyone at the table was extremely pleased with their appetizers, entrees and desserts. The lobster mac and cheese is addictive and the carrot cake is seriously dangerous! Wish I couls eat dinner here nightly.

Terrible! Overpriced! It will ruin your craving for a good cut of meat!

Anniversary Supper. Reserved online for Anniversary supper, same day. The waiter was aware of this when we arrived (appreciated), but nothing special was offered (like some cheaper places; would have been noteworthy). Caesar salad for two was very good. Calamari was lightly battered, but cheap on the bland tzatziki sauce. Asparagus and mushroom 'shares' were fine. Lobster tail was very good ($28?!), but the steaks were average. The extra $3 for a small amount of strange tasting peppercorn sauce was not appreciated. Included side vegetables were good and the lobster mac/cheese was enjoyed. The creme brûlée and chocolate cake desserts were very good. Filling meal, not cheap. Capuccino had nice cup and great foam, but coffee tasted old (disappointing). The cocktail was like a sweet slurpee and overpriced. Service was attentive on this slower night. Overall, would recommend it.

Lux sux. Over priced, over rated, steaks tasted like they were from super store market, only thing that was good were the drinks, would drink there but never eat there again, the lady filet was chewy, dessert was not good at all.

Good Food. Get the lobster mac and cheese - it is to die for! The steak tar-tar is also very good.

Lunch Downtown. I had a groupon coupon so I had to use it up and rarely get downtown during the weekday. 2 of us went for lunch and enjoyed it immensely. I passed by it once before and thought that it looked maybe too "stuffy" for lunch, my mistake, I would go again anytime. We wanted to try the steak there. We ordered the steak sandwich and the philly sandwich, both were awesome. The steak sand was ordered med rare and was cooked perfectly. The fries are the best. The decor is interesting, love the bar, we ordered wine with lunch and loved it. The servers were very good.We were told to come early as seating would be full in the restaurant, but we could try the bar. We prefer lunch in the bar anytime so it wasn't a problem for us. Great place!

Disappointing. The steaks were superb. Prawn appetizer was very good, served with braised celery and a bit of hot seafood sauce. The salads were awful - Market garden salad made with half a dozen canned mandarins and a few candied walnuts dropped in the middle, steakhouse tomato salad also disappointing. The tomatoes (in August) were tasteless and cold - and the red onion rings on top included the outer layer of peel. Don't bother with sides - the onion rings just deep fried dough. The Bearnaise sauce tasted like it was poured from a bottle - lots of vinegar. Atmosphere dated but very professional service on a busy evening. $220 for two, including wine, before tip.

Top Notch. Customer service of days gone by. I am not sure if we were just there on the right night, but we were treated with amazing service. This is something I cherish. We all know things can go wrong in any service environment, it is what you do about it that counts. Thanks for a great night!

Had the surf and turf, pretty small serving and VERY disappointed with the Mac and cheese, was runny and bland. The steak was absolutely fantastic! Husband had meatloaf and liked it - great value. Dessert was carrot cake Huge and fabulous!

Go for the apps!. We got a groupon and was pretty reluctant after reading some of the reviews here. The common thread seems to be great apps, bad entrees - so we smartened up and ordered apps to share for lunch. The baked Camembert was sooooo good! It's way too much for 2 people, but great for left overs as it is easy to reheat at home. The lobster pouting was sinfully delicious! Fries was crispy, and not salted which was perfect given the saltier bacon hollandaise. We also split the buttermilk chicken BLT which was perfect on the pretzel bun...although most of that needed in the takeout container as the portions were big. Great lunch, great service (attentitive without hovering), don't know about the entrees but everything else was yummy!
Helen
We purchased groupons deal for lux, visually the resturant and food look very appealing ,but it turned out to be deceiving. We ordered the capaccio as the appetizer which was delicious, and then came the entrees a medium ribeye steak and a mushroom Wellington. The steak had such a strong charcole taste we couldn't eat it, the wellington was subpar and became increasingly unappetizing because of how the pastry sat ontop of steaming mash potatoes that made it go soggy. Overall the Lux would not be a recommendation the bill would have came out to be around $95 luckily we had a coupon.
Sjeezy
Service was sub par, very long wait times. Pork chops were very tough, not good meat. Asked server about portion sizes and felt tricked into ordering more food. Portion sizes pretty big for sides (mashed potatoes). <br/><br/>Would not recommend, but ok with groupon

I went to LUX on Wednesday night with my boyfriend for our anniversary and all I can say is wow. After reading some reviews on this website I was a bit hesitant to treat my love to a dinner I knew was going to be over $100 even with a $50 groupon. Boy was I surprised, I have eaten at 5 star restaurants, world class resorts, and LUX was at their level. Our waiter for the evening was Ed and he was knowledgable about the menu as well as all cuts of steak and even talked me out of my first choice because of my medium well taste. We ordered the best of the raw to start. Came with three oysters, beef carpaccio, bee tar tar, some tuna, bread, and we finished the plate clean. Drank a bottle of wine and after perfect timing our entrees arrived. Both me and my boyfriend ordered the beef tenderloin and shared a side of mash. Each of our plates came with vegetables on the side and a piece of butter melting atop our steaks. We could not even finish our mash after all was said and done. If you are looking for a juicy steak with a lovely dinning atmosphere DO eat in the dinning room and it will be worth every penny. I will be back for seconds on a nice occasion, hopefully our waiter Ed will join us once again.
Diner
Overrated. Despite all the pretensions, this is not my idea of fine dining. The wine menu, with so many "Jug" wines is a bit of a giveaway.
Lori
Stopped by his steak house looking for a good steak. Had the 9oz tenderloin steak ordered medium - medium rare. It was cooked properly...bloody in the middle, pink throughout . It was the toughest steak I have had in a very long time. I could barely cut it let alone chew it. It was simply a poor piece of meat. I would expect much more from a " Steak house ". Service was excellent. Atmosphere nice. Would not eat here again.

Great. Excellent food, the srvice was superb on saturday night

It was delicious! I had the lobster croquettes to start followed by a steak that was cooked perfectly, I also had one of the many choices of ceases that was also made perfectly! Although it's alittle pricey I will definitely be back :)

Horrible just got worse. I went to LUX with my husband expecting a nice dinner and what we got was plain awful. Appetizers ( carpaccio and yellowtail sashimi) was great... But it went downhill from there. Our drinks were empty for 20 min, our filet mignonette was tough and flavorless! We ordered side scallops... MISTAKE!!! 2 butterflied scallops for 14$!!!?? The mushrooms were button... Simply and the lobster pouting was certainly canned lobster( management didn't dispute this fact). I may seem like I had a high expectation, but for a $250 bill... Wouldn't you? Do not waste your money
Nobody In Particular
Surprised in a Good Way. I am not a fan of Century Grill, so I wasn't in a hurry to try this place out. We popped in for what we had planned to be just a snack after doing some shopping in the late afternoon.<br/><br/>A small menu for me always means good things. I find that it usually signifies good quality food, so they were off to a good start.<br/><br/>I had the twisted caesar, and it was one of the best I've had. What made it special was that it had a little bit of pickle juice in it. From now on, this is how I'm going to make my caesars too.<br/><br/>There was two of us and we shared the 'In the Raw' platter, which is a little bit of everything on their raw menu. It came with steak tartare, beef, tuna, and hamachi carpaccio, and 3 fresh oysters on the half shell. It also came with some toasted sliced french bread with a little drizzle of balsamic. This platter is a MUST! Everything on it was above and beyond what we expected. Each portion came with its own garnish/accompaniment and it was delicious! Our favorite was the steak tartare and it was our first time having it. The fact that it was completely raw and came with a raw egg yolk threw us off, and scared us a bit. I think what made it were the little bits of deep fried capers. Oh man! They were crunchy and salty and elevated this dish over the hills. This was definitely worth the trip alone.<br/><br/>Next we shared the truffle lobster mac and cheese. The chunks of lobster were big, and it was definietly cheesy. It tasted like they didn't skimp on the truffle either. But, we both found that it was good, not the best, not spectacular. <br/><br/>I would make the trip downtown to come to this place again for sure.

Friendly atmosphere but Overrated food. Went there with a party of 20 people for a formal dinner. The waiter was very fun and friendly. We had a special booth area away from the rest of the restaurant which was nice too.<br/><br/>But the food was bland and tasteless. Between everyone we had almost everything on the menu. A variety of their different steaks, mac and cheese, onion rings, chicken salmon, carpaccio.<br/><br/>After a spirited discussion we found only a third of the people were happy with their meals. It seems you could only get well prepared food, or food with good flavor not both.<br/><br/>The beef carpaccio was good, and dessert creme brule good. But all the other dishes were just off the mark. Only half the people liked there steak. Most of the steak was juicy but lacking in taste, the chicken and pork were flavorful, but dry. Lobster mac and cheese was really creamy, but didn't taste like lobster or truffles. One person that ordered salmon was really happy with her meal, but overall disappointing. Not a terrible experience, but for the price we expected an excellent not mediocre meal.

Visitor Be Warned. Lux is very well known for writing false reviews. Any overly positive review written in the past that seems a little over zealous and has a user history of less than a few reviews under its belt is obviously a review created by the restaurant. You have been warned!

Ever wanted to change your order?. It was the first time I tried LUX, and really I should have tried the Crispy Chicken BLT($14). A co-worker of mine had it and it was almost a foot high with lots of fried goodness. <br/>Unfortunately I went for a Montreal Deli($14). It had smoked meat, salami, capicola, mustard aioli on a pretzel baguette. I must say the pretzel bun is a great idea and would take any sandwich over the top... if the sandwich had any taste. This one, not so much. The mustard was MIA, and so was any of the flavor in the meat. It's sad when I can get more enjoyment from a hot italian sandwich from Sobeys down the way for 1/3 of the price. <br/>Even the chipolte-mayo sauce (you have to request it) was bland. If you piled it onto a french fry you might get a bit of kick. It was disappointing.

Went with a party of two on a Wednesday night, and it was busier than expected. Our waiter, Tyson, was excellent. Very helpful and seemed more genuine than the hostess. We had already eaten supper and just came in to enjoy some appetizers with our groupon and to get a feel for the place to see if it's somewhere we'd like to come back to. Decor was handsome, and the atmosphere was very classy. The food was okay. For all the hype, I found it surprisingly uninteresting. The basics were good. Creamy dishes were creamy, and rich where they should be. But beyond that, flavor was generally flat. My bottom line is that the food's flavor should match or exceed the price and decor. For me, it didn't. I'm not planning on coming back.

Excellent food, impeccable service, perfect timing between sitdown to drinks to apps to entrées. Definitely a new addition to my top five.

Fantastic!. We had a Groupon for Lux, so tried it for the first time last night. I wasn't sure what my expectations should be with the mixed reviews, but this had to be one of the best meals out we've had in Edmonton. We started with the baked Camembert appetizer. Oh. My. God. I will be dreaming about this for weeks. It was so delicious and served with a pretzel bread which was soft and chewy with a crispy, buttery crust. If that had been my entire meal, I would have been happy, and will have to return to the lounge sometime for drinks and this appetizer! The portion was huge - definitely made for sharing, and more than enough for 2 people (we did manage to gobble it up though)! I ordered the salmon, hubby had a ribeye and we ordered sides of onion rings and creamed corn. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the mushroom truffle risotto that it came with was excellent. Hubby's steak was also well prepared and he enjoyed it. The sides were fantastic and again, the portions were huge. Creamed corn is not something I would ordinarily order (more hubby's thing), but this ain't no Green Giant! :) It was delicious. For dessert, we shared the carrot cake (okay, I think he had one bite). Again, large portion and wonderful. Moist with an orangey cream cheese icing, delicious sauce and tasty scoop of ice cream.<br/><br/>The only downside to the meal was that they didn't have the bottle of wine we originally wanted, but the replacement we ordered was fine. Service was friendly and attentive, not overbearing. Pricing is in line with other higher-end restaurants - more of a 'special occasion' kind of a place. The full menu is available in the lounge though and they often have drink specials - Saturdays are 1/2 price bottles of wine. Would be a great place to come after work and have some drinks and share some appetizers.

Went last night for a late dinner, it was amazing started off with the shrimp and crab legs and calamari then my bf and I shared the "lap of luxury" and was worth the $$ it could easily feed more than two people! Service was good but Make sure you make reservations.

Try the raw dishes!. OBSESSED with their beef carpaccio. I had long thought of trying carpaccio, but just couldn't bring myself to do the raw beef thing. In the end, I figured a place of this level would be safe to try raw meat, and man, was it good! We originally ordered the "In The Raw" dish, which includes beef carpaccio, steak tartare, oysters, and yellowtail sashimi. All were delicious! The price is on the high end (I believe it was around $25-28), but you get a LOT, so overall it was reasonable. I've returned there for the beef carpaccio several times since - it's only $15 and quite big. For the squeamish out there - I've never had any problems from eating raw meat there.<br/><br/>The drink prices are another thing that sets this place apart from other pricy steakhouses. Most of their cocktails are in the $7-8 range, and there are several under-$10 wines, as well. <br/> <br/>The quality is high and the prices are reasonable enough to lure me in at least once a month.

Nice Atmosphere, Good Food. This place is a bit hit or miss for me. I've been there a few times and I am not usually "WOW!" over the food, but I haven't had a bad meal there either. I like their kobe burger - it's really tender, but quite pricey for what it is. This place has quite an extensive drink menu so it's a great choice just to go for drinks & appetizers if you don't want to break the bank. I would recommend this place - it is one of the better downtown restaurants, but it usually isn't my first choice for dinners out.

It depends on the server.... I do read most of the reviews before I write my own for any food establishment, and I do understand that in some cases Lux comes off very pretencious, and so can some of the people who work there. I did experience some of this just last week, but once the initial awkwardness was overcome and our server arrived, everything was fantastic. I received a gift certificate for my birthday and decided to finally utilize it, and although we did pay alot more than the gc, it was well worth it. Looking at the menu, me and my boyfriend were starved, so we decided not to go a la carte with the steaks, but instead I chose the salmon, and he chose the rack of lamb. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and made polite conversation as well. Our water was refilled plenty (I mean like 4-5 times!), and my salmon was phenomenal. Instead of the mushroom risotto I ordered the garlic mashed, and it was the best salmon I've had since I was in Vancouver. ( 10 years ago ) The server even informed us about the wait time for a full rack of lamb, and that was fine with us. So I am happy that we had the server we did, or our visit to LUX could have turned out very differently. I will be back again, the next special occasion, just because I enjoyed a nice night out here.

Not that great. Waited forever for service, which when rendered was mediocre. Oysters were not fresh tasting.<br/><br/>Staff kept going around back of our table which was against the wall and we had to keep moving our chairs in to allow them to clear the tables.<br/><br/>Waiter tried to be funny but came off as rude.<br/><br/>Not a good experience.

I'm not steak fan but this was good, truly good... nice getaway from the Keg. I ordered the ribeye with a side of garlic mushrooms and started with a market salad.<br/><br/>The market salad was dressed to a point where it was like running in the rain for hours. But the dressing tasted so wonderfully exquisite. Although it was a little bit overpowering and wet the leaves, it was definitely something that grew on you as you finished the salad. <br/><br/>I got adventurous and got a rare ribeye instead of my medium cooked steak for once. It wasn't as bad as I had thought. The fats and the meat complemented one another very well. It didn't taste "cookie-cutter good" like the Keg and felt original as if I had cooked it at home, but I'm sure they did something special to it to make it $30+<br/><br/>The side of garlic mushrooms was heaven. They must've used put an entire stick of butter in there. It was SO GOOD. The mushrooms were not soggy and everything was reduced nicely in that saute pan without drying out the stars themselves. <br/><br/>One thing I must say though... I felt sick exactly 4 hours after dinner and I think it was lactose and oil intolerance more than anything... (butter!!! see?!) And to give you guys a glimpse of my oil and lactose tolerance, I can eat at McDonalds, Pizza Hut Buffet, Chinese restaurants, and a huge tub of Marble Slab without breaking a sweat.<br/><br/>Mark my words.

Needs to take lessons from basically any other steakhouse in Edmonton.. The husband and I came here for dinner and were extremely disappointed. It was my second disappointing experience here, but since someone had given us a gift certificate we figured we'd better use it. Unfortunately it was a bit of a disaster.<br/><br/>Our courses basically all arrived together: appetizer, salads and steak at the same time. Seriously? You're a restaurant... shouldn't you be good at timing food?<br/><br/>Admittedly, our appetizer - the baked brie was delicious. If you have to go, order that. <br/><br/>The salads were both half wilted like they had been prepared an hour ahead of time and extremely salty - too salty to finish the whole plate.<br/><br/>The steaks... well, being that I live in Alberta and the fact that this restaurant is on the fairly expensive side I expected the steaks to taste good. Unfortunately not. My medium rare filet was dry & sawdusty and had a terrible flavour. It was like eating beef in another country. <br/><br/>The service was ok, but challenged in a few areas. In addition to not timing the food, our server literally let plates stack up on our table, didn't refill water glasses (a necessity given the salty salads) and didn't bring us the proper cutlery to cut through the steaks.<br/><br/>We escaped before they had the chance to disappoint us with dessert. Would not go back, and would not recommend this place to anyone.

Worst service. The waitress ignored us and the food took so long while the other table from us was Served first, never even thank us after so we got up to pay for our bill and my gosh the person who took our bill was so rude. Very disappointing.

Was not impressed at all with this #steakhouse in #edmonton. Steaks are not thick, not tender and service was not great. Overrated...over priced. Skip this one!

Birthday Steak. What does every man want on his birthday...a HUGE piece of meat. So to Lux Steakhouse a group of 12 of us went.<br/><br/>Our waitress was fantastic. She had a sense of humour, which after six.....teen rye and coke she needed one. She was prompt and did an excellent job at looking after our table.<br/><br/>The appetizers were brought and gone with ease. Granted, they aren't the largest in size so you might want to 1up order if deciding between 2. But they did taste good.<br/><br/>AS for the meat.....it was nothing more then great!! I ordered the 12oz New York cut which was done to medium rare perfection. With the side of garlic mashed potatoes, you may as well stuck a fork in me cause I was done! (Sorry...lame I know)<br/><br/>Of course, the meal came with a price tag where there was a couple double takes, but it was still a nice meal and great service. I will be back to indulge at a later date.<br/><br/>Dig In!

Not Impressed. When you order a steak at a STEAKhouse, you expect it to come out the way you order it... NOT overcooked. I ordered mine medium rare, and it came out more like medium well. My friend thought our steaks were medium rare (because when you order steaks from a low end place, you expect them overcooked) but I showed him a picture (thank heavens for google on your phone) and he was like OH I didn't know medium rare was bloody (rare buddy... rare means blood) ANYWAYS... I didn't want to send my food back and wait for a new steak to come out, so I ate it. Other than being a little chewy from being overcooked, it was decent, but not enough flavour. Throw some more pepper on there, or some montreal steak spice.<br/>The stuffed mini baked potatoes were not stuffed... they were topped with sour cream, bacon bits and onion.... <br/>The deep fried shredded potato that comes with your meal (sides are extra) cut my gums, I could not finish them... the salt in the fresh gum cuts didn't help (they didn't really cut my gums, but they were definitely not happy)<br/>Decor is very 90s, cold atmosphere, HUGE high ceilings, and spot lights... I could see all the way across the restaurant, but I couldn't see my own food.

Steak tartar and baked camembert were delicious, and our platinum blond server was mad men cool!

Always great service, perhaps of their location. Always have a good time. Oilers hang out there lots. Chicken is awesome considering it's a steakhouse. Appetizers are great as well. 5/5

In LOVE with LUX. I have to admit that I haven't been to LUX in quite some time. Friends and I used to stop in for the incredibly popular Martoonie Thursdays once upon a time but haven't been back in awhile. We came in last week for some post-work bevies and apps and were shocked by how packed the lounge was. There were no tables and absolutely no room at the bar, and we were still expecting more people. In most places in the city this would have been a recipe for disaster but not here.<br/> One of the managers spotted our dilemma before it had even been voiced. She found us a small area at the bar and made sure we had drinks right away, while she looked into getting us a table. The bartenders were fantastic, they seemed to be having so much fun even though the were obviously busy, still finding the time to entertain us. <br/>They found our group a table right away! <br/> The service was incredible, drinks and apps were great, the vibe was fun and the staff actually seemed to LOVE their jobs - imagine that! We had such a great time and will absolutely be back soon!

Great Night Out. Headed out to LUX Steakhouse & Bar on saturday night and what a night. The atmosphere was sexy, chic, modern and upscale. We have been many times and have always found it to be a great place to enjoy incredible meals and great service. Our server was extremley helpful and attentive. The recommendations were excellent and my wife loved the mac and cheese...to die for...to be exact. Both managers, Dean and Jill found time to drop by the table and make us feel like a million bucks and the Chef even found time to check on our meals. Dollar for dollar by far the best steakhouse in town. Highly recommend!!

Steak sandwich with "signature sauce" best avoided. Just had lunch at Lux today, and was looking forward to a steak sandwich. Beer? Good. Fries? Good. Steak? Smeared in a dark paste that tasted so strongly of cloves that it overwhelmed everything else, including what looked like a nice strip loin underneath. 2 bites and I was done, even after scraping off the horrible sauce.<br/><br/>I'm not a picky man, but I fail to see how anyone could find that sauce actually adding to the flavour of a good cut of beef. When you use good ingredients, PLEASE don't hide them under such unnecessary (and, in this case, awful) creations...<br/><br/>To their credit, they did not charge me for the steak. I may go back, but not soon.

Wont be coming back. It is not worth the price you pay, or the time you wait. It is a pretentious place full of waitstaff that feel entitled because they work at a pricey steak house. The only staff I found to be actually friendly and not fake was the hostess. <br/><br/>My steak was cooked right. I dont feel like that deserves so much praise though, because I live in Alberta and I can get a great piece of steak cooked right at many places for alot cheaper. <br/><br/>As far as the the truffled lobster mac and cheese, it was bland, a bit dry and one of the biggest dissapointments, right next to the sub par service from a snooty waiter who seemed to rush us for our order, and then run off not to be seen again for a half hour. His condecending tone and "hun" was not appreciated at all and extremely unprofessional for a person in the service industry. <br/><br/>If you are reading these reviews for ideas for new restaurants to try out, let me save you the time and money and tell you that it is so not worth it.

Delicious!. I was skeptical about coming here as I don't find a steakhouse to be special, I enjoy others things then steak in life. However it was magnificent. I really enjoyed each a la carte dish and my steak was cooked to perfection. Lovely atmosphere as well. Recommended!

To do again.. Chic, elegant and relaxed.<br/>Expense this one, it will make it easier to enjoy. <br/><br/>My sirloin was overcooked (medium rare, asked for Blue) and the offered to replace it. I can't waste food so I declined but it was still very good. They offered me a desert instead, which was a delightful creme brulée!<br/><br/>I'd go again!

Had reservations for v-day and when we got there, the seats were in a bad location. We asked to move because the resteraunt was only 30%full, but, they said the other tabled were reserved for other people. I guess the other people were more important than us. We walked out.

Disgrace and disaster. My friend and I wanted to do something different for New years. We were searching events and places to celebrate and bring in 2010 with all our good friends. We stumble upon Lux SteakHouse. With their New Years advertisement, promos and the hype they made; it seems like it was a reasonable price for a "VIP" ticket. It was NOT. Advance tickets was $25 and $35 at the door it included orderves and a glass of champagne before the countdown. We bought over $600 of advance ticket for all of us, $25 per person and all we got was a glass of champagne and one maybe two chicken wings if you were lucky. A few of our friends arrived at the lounge earlier to have dinner. Most of us arrived at Lux around 9:45pm, My friend who just had dinner there came up to me and asked me was there even a point to buying all the tickets because anyone could get in the lounge. So some of us observed for 30 min how this "big event" was organized and realized we just got all of our friends scammed. I talked to the manager and questioned him why they were selling tickets in advance as well as why on the ticket they claim it cost $35 at the door while everyone else including some of our other friends got in for free. His explanation was whomever was in the lounge the server advised them that it costs $35 if they accept any Oderves or a glass of champagne as well as whoever walks into the lounge will also get charge if they accept it. He also said that the servers are keeping track of everyone who is consuming the orderves . By this time it was now 11:25. Embarrassed my friend and I let it go because the New year was coming. When we got back to the lounge from talking to the manager I saw the server go around twice with the chicken wings which was suppose to be our oderves, and wondered to myself the majority of the people in the lounge is standing up and walking around talking and greeting people how are they keeping track of every single person with the lounge this packed. Around 11:40pm was when the server started to ask us for our tickets to trade it in for the "complimentary "glass of champagne. Throughout the whole night we bought overpriced, water down drinks at the bar with the slowest service. Basically we paid over $600 for a glass of champagne and blew thousands of dollars at their slow service lounge. Ever since Lux was open we've always heard good comments about the restaurant, lounge and the atmosphere the only thing bad was that it was a little overpriced. Next time if a restaurant with a lounge sell tickets for an event and claim they have something going on confirm that you actually need one to get in or else you'll end up paying $25 for a cheap glass of baby duck champagne. With their slow/horrible bartenders and service I don't know what happened, maybe it was because we were part of the visible minority group. I just can't believe that a high rated place like Lux steakhouse would claim, host and service such a disgrace event and bring in 2010 like that.

Chic, yet casual - great meal!. Lux offers a contemporary alternative to the traditional steakhouse menu. The discerning diner will appreciate Lux's twist on traditional American cuisine, elevating an appetizer as simple as onion rings to a higher plateau. This allows for a casual evening of drinks and appies with friends, or one may choose to delve into the entrees, which are sure to satisfy. I especially enjoyed the porkchop garnished with grape tomatoes and peaches, the flavor combination is highly pleasing!<br/><br/>We have dined at Lux on more than one occasion, and service has always been beyond expectation. On this particular occasion, our server was very helpful in choosing a wine pairing for the meal. One of the best combinations I've tasted to date.<br/><br/>To top off the evening, Chef Tony Le made a personal visit to our table, ensuring the meal was satisfactory. He is passionate about his craft and this is certainly reflected in his cuisine.

Okay.... I will list the good first.<br/>Lux makes AMAZING food, and their caesar drink menu is to DIE for!!! The atmosphere is great, and location is great. <br/>However...its $$$. And everything costs a little extra. A table of 4 for us one night, cost $600.00. But it was a great meal!<br/>ALWAYS MAKE A RESERVATION!

Too much food and rapid service

I had the opportunity to dine at Lux Steakhouse and discovered that it is highly overrated. The place tries to come off as high class but has all the appeal of an Outback Steakhouse. The steak (filet mignon) was marginal and bland and the baked potato was undercooked. Adding to the horrible dining experience was the fact that we had two males, who were obviously off-duty employees based on the conversation with the working servers, dropping "f-bombs" with every third word. To top it all off, we each ordred a glass of their house red with our meals and later discovered when our bill arrived that their house wine is $15 a glass. There were several other options on their wine menu for $8-10 a glass. When we confronted the server about this he pretty much called us cheap in a sugar-coated way. Since when is the house wine the most expensive wine on the menu ?! You can do better than this. Lux is all look and no substance.

Great. Enjoyed a nice medium rare steak. The ambiance is very classy and service is very attentive. The restaurant is a little dark but is still very nice. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. I will be back with my other friends and recommend others as well.

Good food Nice Atmosphere. I have had a pretty good steak here and I am a big fan of their salads. I love going on a Thursday night and drinking their martinis in the lounge.

Loved It!. Friends and I had dinner at Lux last night before the hockey game and loved everything. The service was quick, friendly, and attentive (we told the server we were in a hurry), the food was amazing (steaks cooked to perfection), and the chef came by to ask about our dinner. We will all be going back very soon.
