I was fortunate to be introduced to Sir Winston's Fish and Chips. The family that runs this shop are wonderfully friendly and enjoy meeting and serving those that walk through the door. And the food! Wow! The fish is fresh, cooked to perfection and the batter is the best I have ever tasted. Don't forget to top it off with the fabulous coleslaw. I had no room for dessert...next time! Totally recommended...bonappetit!
Sir Winston's for the win! Not just a family friendly staff, but family friendly customers! Brought my three year old and 8 month old and Everyone there was friendly towards my kids and us. Food was great, and we were lucky enough to be there for some live music! Would recommend this place to anyone!
Wow being a Brit this is the best fish and chips i have had since England amazing staff amazing owner I would sure recomend this this to anyone tell them margaret says hi my new favorite place to eat
Awesome friendly place and fantastic food. Highly recommend , they also have live entertainment monthly . Can't Waite to come back Christmas time
Fantastic food, had the cod and chips, best coleslaw I've ever had, clam chowder was delicious our beautiful bartender made the most awesome ceasars and we had the pleasure of Jessica Heine's music to listen to.... such a great Night! Can't wait to come back
Best place in Edmonton to satisfy your craving for some good ol' fish n' chips. And now there's delicious pies on menu....the steak pie is my favourite!
Take-out or eat-in - yours is still the best for when I have a craving for fish! Prompt welcome and service by friendly staff. My favourite is still the Haddock, but hope to try a few other of your delicious menu items. I even noticed a freezer where I can select pies etc. to take home to bake. Your renovations are excellent - even a dart board! Much success - just keep doing the fish so tasty!
It's our family's fav fish and chips resto!! I really like the fact that their batter is so light and doesn't have egg in it! And how about that coleslaw!! best in town!
So amazing!! Fish was perfect, fries great, service was
Good. We ordered a take out order, the owner was there and he was highly entertaining. Recommend to all ... but if you are placing a to go order and it is busy...order a pint and relax, it may take a minute...worth every second though.
Ate here for the first time tonight and will be back... Friday in fact to watch open mic night. Food was fantastic and staff were very attentive and friendly.
I highly recommend eating here and coming to enjoy the extra events they host.
I walked in thinking it was a small take out place. This place is AMAZING. The decor, The food and the service. A must try in Edmonton.
Everything was excellent. The fish and chips are waaaay too good for everyone to not eat here. The staff was awesome.

We were on our way home from airport on Thurs and starving. Throwing different ideas around and my husband remembered seeing Sir Winston's. We showed up at 8:10, they close at 8 but were more than welcoming. The environment is awesome so bright and Cheery. The décor made you feel like you were in an English Pub. My husband and I had the Halibut meal and mom had the Cod. The fish was so good, light and crispy batter flaky fish...amazing. Coleslaw is very good better than anywhere we have had. Jay the owner was most entertaining and full of information. We noticed the meat pies available for take home. Jay told us all about how they make them and we had to try one of each. It being Friday now and having had the meat pies for dinner I have to say was worth every penny. I will definitely be going back to Sir Winston's Fish & Chips
Wow, was that good! Top quality fish, fries & batter, generous portions and great service. I’m really impressed. Will be coming back soon!
The place has recently been renovated I think and it looks great. Also take out traditional Brit meat pies. Stoked.
Excellent fish and chips!! My family and I were looking for a good fish and chips restaurant in Edmonton for a long time and are so glad we found this place! We met the owners Jay and Hina, as well as the head chef/owner Kevin, who were all very friendly, and the food was awesome. We tried their halibut fish which is hard to find in other places and the quality and service was really good. It's also got this old British touch to it which we all liked. Definitely recommend Sir Winston's Fish & Chips! :)
I've never had great fish and chips in Edmonton, until now. The batter is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, like it should be. It does this without being greasy. So good. We ordered mozzarella sticks, the flavor was great, but should have been cooked longer. They weren't gooey like they should have been. Overall, a great meal and service.
Great Fish and Chips. Good selection of drinks etc. Friendly staff. Fast service. Home from Home fish and chips from someone who used to live by the sea in England.
My husband and I decided to visit this restaurant today despite being absent for about one year due to cleanliness issues of tables that were ignored by previous owner. We were pleasantly surprised to see the upscale renovated restaurant which included a bar and 4 big screen TV's throughout the restaurant and new flooring where the old rug used to be. The tartan tablecloths were a nice touch and added a brightness to the restaurant. We were greeted warmly by the owner, Jay, who advised us that the fish still had a thin batter as previously as that was important to us. He encouraged us to give him feedback as he had already made changes based on feedback from customers. We thoroughly enjoyed our Cod, chips and coleslaw. The new cooks freshly cut and fry the chips. The previous owners used frozen fries which I found disappointing. We definitely will return here as there is no one else who can compare with the preparation and taste of Winston's Fish & Chips and will tell all our friends as well about the wonderful experience we had.
Friendly service and it is clear they care about what they are serving. The mushy peas, Cornish pasty and deep-fried Mars bar were very good. The coleslaw and clam chowder were amazing. The fish batter could have been crisper, like it usually is. Finally, I like the renovations that they are adding, including the addition of the bar at the back.
Amazing food and new renovations with PUB addition is awesome! Def will be back soon. Looking forwards to all the new additions to the restaurant :)
Amazing fish and chips join in town! The fish uses the best batter I have ever tasted! Great owner, Great environment (Feels like you are back in England)! Definitely recommend this restaurant to all
Simply the best fish and chips I've had in a long time :) fresh fish and thick cut fries what more can you ask for. Friendly service. Affordable.
Usually go for the battered haddock and chips. Love it! But this time went for the salmon. Delish! Light crispy batter and the salmon was moist and cooked to perfection. I have never had salmon done this way. Really great. This is the best fish n chips in town. Great service. Nice selection of imported beers. Portion sizes very generous.
Best in the city. I've been coming here for the last 2 years and by far the best in the city. Best coleslaw I've ever had as well. The owners are polite, friendly and always glad to give you service right away. Keep up the amazing work!
I've been craving some good fish and chips lately. This hit the spot! Not my favourite style of chip but the fish is outstanding! I recommend splurging for the halibut:-)
Wow!!! Best fish and chips I've had since being in London and Manchester! I've been bragging you guys up to all my friends today large portions and amazing taste I'll be back for sure!
So incredible. Authentic British fish and chips was the perfect match to the poster covered walls. My family and I enjoyed fabulous, personal service, outstanding food and were so happy to look around at the posters, each wall a devoted to a different country in Britain! So fun, would definitely recommend! :)
Great Food. My wife and I wanted to try a new local restaurant in Edmonton. We found out about Sir Winstons from urban spoon. The fish and chips were the best I ever had and the owner who served us was friendly and attentive. Highly suggest eating here.
P.S. try the cobra beer
Excellent!. They have a selection of 27 beers; I had the London Pride which went really well with the fish and chips. I started with the best coleslaw I've ever had, then we had the haddock and the halibut (which were both amazing) and the deep fired Mars bar for dessert. Everything was reasonably priced and the service was fantastic! We will definitely be back!
Amazing. If you want to experience great service and great food this is the place! Sir Winston's Fish and Chips has everything you would expect from a fish and chips shop but also has one of the friendliest owners I have ever met. It's nice to see someone with so much passion for his food and venue! They have a great beer selection and he's more than accommodating. I highly recommend this for your next dinner...and you'll be back for more!
Bed fish & chips in Edmonton. Had the Haddock & samosa's. Basically the best fish and chips in Edmonton. Flaky non-greasy batter. Huge portions(do not bother with the 2 piece unless you want lunch the next day). They know their stuff and will be back many more times in the future as I could not stop thinking about the great food the next day.
This was awesome! One of the cleanest places I've eaten in a while!! Food was perfect! And staff were very friendly! Coming back soon!
Great Atmosphere, Nice people, Fantastic Food. Sir Winston's has is the best fish and chips restaurant in Edmonton hands down. The owners are very friendly and polite, they like to make good conversation and have a good laugh. The service is fast and the food is fantastic, especially the halibut. It has a great atmosphere and is filled with posters and hangings from different places, mostly from London. If you've never had fish and chips before, you should definitely come here for your first time.
Pretty much the best fish n' chips in Edmonton. Great service, tons of English and other import beers on hand. I've come here enough that I don't even have to sit down and my order is already cooking. Absolutely recommend.
Best fish and chips in the city (or anywhere)!. Excellent service and great atmosphere. They stock a selection of import beers including Innis & Gunn and Boddingtons. As for the fish and chips, done to perfection! The batter was nice and crispy (not over crispy) and also not too oily. Large portions of haddock!
I recommend trying the mint sauce with your mushy peas, also it is essential to round your meal off with the classic deep fried battered mars bar and a scoop of vanilla icecream!
This place is hands down the best fish and chips place in Edmonton. The batter is perfect. Haddock- perfect. Awesome friendly atmosphere. The coleslaw is incredible( and I hate coleslaw!). Top it all off with a deep fried mars bar and your golden. Seriously! Go!!! Now!
Come hungry and be sure to get the halibut! This is the best chippy in town, hands down. If you are not into the battered fish, you can get pan fried fish as well.
You will leave feeling full, but not greasy.
DELICIOUS. I stumbled upon this restaurant purely by chance with my family today, and decided to go in and check it out. My mother and all of my relatives are from England, and I have visited England as well. After my trip to the UK I thought fish and chips in Canada were ruined for me for ever - nothing even came close to what I had eaten overseas. Until I tried the fish in Sir Winston's Fish & Chips! Everything about the experience was fantastic, including the food, the staff and the atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!
p.s. the coleslaw is AMAZING (bought extra to take home with us!!)
Service was amazing! The owner was so funny and helpful. The food was great too especially the deep fried mars bar!! I highly recommend this place, it's very welcoming!
Great Place!. This is probably the best Fish & Chips place in the city that I've been to so far. The owners are friendly, the restaurant has a nice old school atmosphere, and the food is delicious and quick. I found the fish & chips to have a nice light batter and a well sized portion that is fried to perfection. I usually get my orders to go, and am always thoroughly satisfied with this guilty pleasure. The only thing I would change is the tartar sauce; I'm not a huge fan of the store bought stuff. Maybe a new homemade recipe could be in the works?
9/10
Good fish and service. Inside of the store was very clean with regulars eating/chatting. Was served quickly, ordered a 2 pc Haddock and Chips w/ coleslaw to go. Didn't have to wait long, the portions were very generous and the batter was perfect, light and crispy. Fish tasted fresh, coleslaw was average, came packed with tartar sauce and malt/white vinegar on the side. The person at the counter appeared to be the owner, was very courteous with other customers and myself. Would definitely recommend this place.
Awesome Place. Went there with a friend on Thursday for lunch. We both had fish and chips -- and Wow! Amazing food and the service was super-friendly.
I'll definitely go back there :)
Great Fish and Chips. This litte restaurant had great fish and chips, and exceptional service. I would definitely go back. Well priced and authentic.
Best fish and chips ive EVERRR had. Nicest people ever, awesome decor. Deep fried mars bar was soooo good. Fish batter so light and perfect
Good food & friendly service.
My husband & I went for lunch. We were greeted and directed to have a seat where we liked.
We placed our order & were brought coleslaw. It was fresh & crisp. My husband who does not like coleslaw finished his in no time. He loved it & so did I.
We ordered calamari- it was very good, the seasoning was delish.
We also had the halibut & chips. I had the one piece & my husband the 2 piece. The pieces were huge. And so moist, like cutting through hot butter. The batter was light & fluffy. And I usually can't stand battered fish, this was great.
We then had the deep fried mars bar.. Well what more can you ask for... Chocolate & deep fried... Send me to heaven.
We will most definantly be back for the great food and friendly service.
Great food with a friendly atmosphere!. I'd been meaning to visit Sir Winston's for a while, and today I had the opportunity to go with two co-workers. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner who made friendly conversation with us as we were being seated. Within minutes of being seated, he took our drink orders and then gave us time to go over the menu. I was tempted to order a beer from the wide variety available, but since I went for lunch and had to go back to work afterwards, I had to pass on it. My co-workers and I took a few minutes to look at the menu, and when the owner came back with our drinks we were ready to order. Right away we all knew we wanted to try the vegetarian samosas and calamari for our appetizers. I ordered the two piece halibut meal, while my co-workers ordered the two and three piece haddock meals.
While we sat there waiting for our orders, the owner came back with three bowls of coleslaw. The coleslaw was fresh since it was still crunchy (not soggy), and there appeared to be dill in it which added to the flavour. As my co-workers and I chatted and ate the delicious coleslaw, our appetizers were brought to us. I was pretty impressed by the speedy service, since we were just finishing our bowls.
Right away we all dug into the plate of calamari, and were pleasantly surprised by the taste. A lot of restaurants that serve calamari, don't have good calamari. It either has a strong fishy taste or is really chewy like gum. This was the complete opposite. The calamari was easy to chew, and tasted great. Kinda wish I didn't have to share with two other people... haha. Next we tried the vegetarian samosas. The samosas had good flavour, and I was actually happy the samosa shell wasn't thick. Many Indian restaurants I've gone to screw them up by using a thicker samosa shell and barely putting any filling in them. These ones were perfect. Since the owner is Indian, you know he's going to get the samosas right.
Almost as soon as we finished our appetizers, all of our meals were brought out to us. I can't comment on my co-workers' meals, but I was impressed by the large pieces of haddock on their plates. They seemed to enjoy their choices, but since there was so much food, they couldn't finish. They both got through one piece of fish each and the fries, before their stomachs got full and they had to box the rest up.
My halibut meal was equally as large. The pieces of fish were covered in a light and very scrumptious batter, and the fish pieces used were thick. Some local restaurants I've had fish and chips at tend to use a very thick and heavy batter, and skimp on the fillet used. It's almost like they emphasize on the batter instead of the fish, and you usually go home feeling sick after you finish. That wasn't the case at Sir Winston's. It was a large piece of fish covered in a light and crunchy batter. I basically started, and didn't come up for air until I finished everything on my plate. I'm sure I could've eaten more if there was actually more on my plate, but thank god there wasn't because I still had to go back to work... haha. I do feel kinda bad my co-workers and I almost went through nearly two bottles of tartar sauce... lol. If anything, the owner should see that as an indication of how delicious his food is.
After our meal, it came time to pay our bill. The last time I went to Brit's Fish & Chips and had the two piece halibut meal, I ended up paying around $30 plus tax and tip. At Sir Winston's, my meal cost less than half of that. With tax and tip I paid under $15. Even my co-workers' meals cost significantly less than the price of the haddock meals at Brit's. In total, I think our bill came out to around $70-75 (two appies, and three entrees) What more can you ask for? You're paying less money than at Brit's and getting the same amount of food, and the food also tastes better. Sir Winston's definitely has great value paired with mouth watering fish and chips.
I don't think I'll ever be going back to Brit's or having fish and chips at any other restaurants from now on. I'll only be going to Sir Winston's when I have a craving for fish and chips. It's a very clean establishment, with a friendly host, the service is top notch, and the food is amazing. We even had the owner's son serve us, and you could tell the apple didn't fall far from the tree in that family. He was equally hospitable as the owner.
To some of the other reviewers that had negative feedback, I didn't see slow service and the food came out hot. My co-workers and I got there around 12PM. We ordered, ate, paid, and left by about 12:45PM to go back to work. In my opinion, that's a reasonable amount of time considering this isn't a fast food establishment. The portions of food were also comparable to Brit's, at a much more reasonable price.
Good Stuff!. Friendly owners and fresh food, the fish is tasty and fresh and the batter is very light and crispy ... we love fish and this place knows its fish, so refreshing in a fish and chip place. By far, this is the best place in the city for Fish and Chips, bar none!! (except, my spouse says, for my kitchen but I'm not open for business!!). The portions are generous and the wait staff are helpful and its a fast and friendly atmosphere. Plus, its nice and warm on a cold night - check out the surf picture on the front of the menu ... lovely!
I heart fish 'n' chips.. This place is really good! The service was friendly and our food was made pretty quick. I ordered the Haddock, and it was really tasty and not oily. My husband ordered samosas(?)... just stick with the fish. I don't have much to compare Sir Winston's to ( the only other fish 'n' chips I've had here in Edmonton was at Cheesecake Cafe....not good.) but Winston's has to be one of the best for sure.
Yeah the service will never be the same... but the FISH is!. And always will be :)
Yes I agree with another reviewer that the service is slow and I feel the atmosphere is kinda slow/quiet/deadening. But that's probably because I went at 2 or 3 PM... hahaha. You decide.
The fish and chips was just as awesome as it was prior to the change of ownership. Very light batter combined with good tasting cod/halibut/haddock of your choice. The fries were to die for. Something tells me that put a lot of butter in their batter. But what do I know. It just tasted darn good.
I tried Brits (Downtown) and hated it. Will never go back. This is my favorite fish and chips place in all of Alberta... (and I tried Fish and Chips at 15+ places).
Try this hidden gem before it vanishes! Gems should be out for everyone to share :P

Terrific!!. Immediate seating on a Saturday at 6pm! Really warmly welcomed by the owner and her son! We were four, including my sister-in-law, Germaine, and her partner, Darrold, who we visiting from Prince George, BC for the first time. We had the family pack of halibut, which included 2 pieces of fish each, fries, and the most delicious coleslaw ever! The fish was delectable, but too plentiful to finish, so we all had a takeaway portion, and sadly no room for dessert. We can easily recommend this small independent to our fellow Edmontonians, and can't wait until the craving for fish and chips returns.
Good fish and Fries. I was interested in checking out Sir Winston as I had heard good things about it but had never gotten around to trying it. I arrived on a Friday around 5pm I think and the place was doing steady business. I noticed that they had the owner and his wife (I think), 2 Asian girls, 2 white boys and I think 2 brown boys who were the owners children all working. So they must experience a huge rush come dinner time to have that much staff.
I decided to go with a 2 piece haddock fish and chips with a large chocolate milk to drink. The chocolate milk was a bad idea as at $3 for a glass that is not large really, its kind of over priced when you consider they buy a gallon for $4, fountain pop would be a better choice.
The fish was good, the batter however was a little thin for my personal taste, but still very nice. The chips though are french fries and not actual chips, which is kind of disappointing in a place that is supposed to be a fish and chips shop. However as french fries go they are nice, just not as good as red robins fries or the chips offered at Brits.
If I had to pick I would pick Sir Winston over back home fish and chips, but would still pick Brits over Sir Winston.
