Review I Love Sushi - Edmonton

I have finally found my sushi place!! Japanese run, very excellent quality, good portions and decent (not cheap but not crazy) prices. Great cozy atmosphere, excellent but non-intrusive service. Japanese run. I reccomend the salmon sashimi, the avocado shrimp tempura roll, the spicy tuna maki, the seaweed salad and the miso soup! Rolls were not too ricey!!!

We ordered the Black Dragon Maki, Mexican Maki, I love sushi special, white dragon Maki and more ! It was all so delicious and super filling. The waitress was kind and they listened to the restrictions well, all workers kept masks on and kept distance. I recommend coming here for some sushi :) !

Delicious food and cutest little spot! The staff were so welcoming and kind. I had the Crunchy Avocado Maki and Kara Age Tofu. The Kara Age Tofu was the best and crispiest I have ever had 🤩 The avocado on the Crunchy Avocado Maki was so fresh and layered so prettily. Everything was made with a lot of love. Thank you for a lovely experience I Love Sushi 😊 💐🍣 🍱 🥰✨

Everything about this restaurant was great. The staff and greeter was very nice. The place is beautiful and staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. I love that you get a lot of food for the cheap price. It’s definitely not like other expensive restaurants where you only get a small amount of food. I am definitely going back.

This might be my new favourite sushi spot! I love the location and the urban feel when you look out the window. The sushi itself is very tasty, fresh, flavourful and well priced! The food comes out quick and the service is friendly. Give these guys a try!

Good quality cuts of fish, reasonable portions at a reasonable price! I usually order Nigiri sushi, always has a nice fish-rice ratio. I absolutely love the ambiance inside, cozy, quiet, and unfussy. If you’re looking for a regular sushi spot downtown, I highly recommend ILS!

Despite the name, I think that the real strength of this place lies in a lot of their non-sushi offerings. They are my downtown go-to for things like tempura, Japanese curry, teriyaki, donburi or other random Japanese cravings. When it comes to this, they hit that sweet spot of reasonable prices and a fulfilling quick meal.

We are visitors to Edmonton. This is a little family run restaurant and they only had one server, so she can get a little busy. My teenage son got the bento box and he really liked it. He still talks about it, which is what reminded me to write this review. We also ordered sushi and takoyaki and other stuff. All were really good. Will come back when we visit Edmonton again.

The food is always fresh, and even though there are only a handful of tables, there always appears to be room. Tucked just off Jasper Avenue, right in the heart of downtown, this is a great place for lunch.

I have always just picked food up from here and taken it home, so I can't speak to the service. However, the sushi quality has always been top notch! Recently I noticed they upped their prices from what it was before, but it's still worth it. Before it was a really really good deal, now it's just a good deal.
Anita
I love sushi and this place was good. The raw fish were fresh. Service was quick. But if your bringing in your child that needs a highchair/booster seat they don't have any. The deep fried stuff in the bento box was too oily for me but overall it was good!

Quite the little place I Love Sushi is. Very tiny like not more then 20 seats, but it's not too cramped. Anyways cute place, Chinese owned you can tell. But due to its size service is quick and responsive. My girlfriend and I were pretty hungry so we settled for some Squid Kaarage, a Sushi Boat and 6pcs of Toro Sashimi. Squid was nice and crunchy (wish it came with some sort of sauce though.) Sushi boat was grand and it filled us right up. Nice selection of fish for the sashimi and the spicy tuna maki was beautiful. Toro is what it is, melt in your mouth delicious. Quite the little place, if you love sushi then I would recommend to check it out.

Absolutely love this place. The service sucks and decor is lacking, but it doesn't matter when the sushi is this good. Recommend to all sushi enthusiasts.

DISGUSTING nose picking. The rice was salty and vinegary in the maki and sushi rolls. Went to pay for food and my husband saw the chef picking his nose and then when he thought it was over, the chef went in for seconds right infront of our faces! Disgusting! So grossed out. Do not go here. Service was terrible as well. Feeling sick to my stomach! :(

Hands down, the best sushi in town for both price and quality. Must try the red dragon! The service is always quick and attentive. Small place I'd get there early for lunch.
Natasha Jennette
A nice quiet, little spot for sushi. Servers are always attentive and orders come out pretty quick. Most often, food quality is great, (there have been the odd times where my maki seemed less than fresh) and the price can't be beat. Nothing particularly stands out on the menu, its a fairly standard offering of Japanese. dishes. Much better priced than say Kyoto a few blocks west though. I'd recommend it if you want a quick, reliable sushi fix, but its nothing to write home about.
Olena
Delisious sushi. Loved this place! Fish is fresh and high quality! Loved sushimi and rolls! Highly recommend

Ordered a saki but got A beer...

Food was fine but the waitress was lacking in her attention to detail and her friendliness.

Worst so-called sushi :(. I understand that Edmonton is not even near an ocean but left a bad taste in my mouth. Rainbow maki was not freshly made... Felt like I ate something made yesterday.
Perinickle
It was cheap and not very good. Service was meh. Sushi was okay... well it was cheap and you definitely get what you pay for in the raw fish section. Might try it again but my friend was telling me about a good place in st. Albert that sounds more promising.
Adriana
I choose not to wear a business suit on a Friday and I get treated like crap. Extremely rude staff, I got asked to leave cause I was sitting in their seat eating there food
Dan
One word YUK! I've eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants and have been for years and this has to be one of the worst ever. The rolls are very heavy on rice which is sour tasting for whatever reason and the contents are not fresh nor pleasant to eat. I'm left to assume those that rated this place as good have never had good tasting or even marginally good tasting sushi! The service was also poor if you needed another reason NOT to eat here. As for the 74% rating, change that to 10% then decide!

Again YUK!

Delicious and fast!. No idea what the haters are thinking, maybe they just went on an off day, but I loved it. Had the Tempura bento with sushi and a miso soup. Got the miso immediately, delicious. Sadly, no seaweed chunks, but nice small pieces of tofu and diced green onion. I ate it pretty fast I figure, but by the time I was done, I had Just barely set the bowl aside, and my bento had arrived. Very happy with the speed. The bento had tempura, salad, two large maki (tempura shrimp, avocado, and salmon roe), and 3 pieces of sushi(Salmon, tuna, and what I think is eel - whiter than tuna, and soft). I was very impressed with the tempura. I only ever recognize the shrimp, but there was two of everything. And it was Piping hot when it got to me. Nice mild tempura dip. The salad was yummy, lettuce, tomato, and carrot. Yummy slightly tangy dressing of some sort. The maki was nice, but I'm personally not a fan of that type. And the sushi was delicious. The salmon was a little chewy, the tuna was heavenly and sweet and fallapart just like I like it, and the other white one was very tasty too. All the fish tasted nice and fresh, no gross spots, and generously sized. And contrary to a different review, I like that the waitress left me alone. Brought my food promptly, and didn't come back till the bill. I have no problem flagging someone down if I need them. One very small thing though, they've updated their prices since the ones posted here - I think my bento was .50c more than what's listed on here. But not a problem at all. My bill was somewhere around 12.50 for everything.

All in all, loved it. Very fast service for well done food.

Let Me Tell You... This hole in the wall had left me wondering what I did wrong, when I got kicked out. I ordered 2 rolls, and gyoza. She did not ask me if I wanted to order a drink. I will tell you, right away I felt that the place was a bit unclean. Food was not fresh, disappointing. When the gyoza arrived it was simply not cooked all the way (it was pork). I politely sent it back and told her not to worry about making a new one as I was full. She ripped the plate off the table so aggressively the sauce spilt all over the table. She came back gave me the cheque and asked me to pay it up front. So I did, I turn around and the other waitress was taking the green tea out from under my friend. I asked her if they were closing and they told me no. I stood there confused...because our behavior was acceptable with only 1 reasonable complaint. The waitress was sitting there on facebook on an ipad while I paid. This experience was super disappointing and I would not suggest going there.

Good food. Bitchy servers. Not friendly.

Rude service. We are used to thoughtful and attentive service, but the few times we've given I Love a Sushi a chance, they disappointed .. food was likewise 2-star quality

Best time, every time. I wondered into this cute little place about 4 years ago and it has been my only place for sushi. My boyfriend and I go as much as we can and its always the best never disappointing. The services is great and the restaurant/bathroom very clean.A big recommend for anybody looking for anyone looking to enjoy great sushi in a cute spot :)

I should have probably listened to the reviewer below. Yes, I totally think this place is overrated. Fish wasn't fresh and the rice wasn't cooked the right way for sushi.. Kinda too mushy...No good service from a server either.. Hmmm.. Really? Is this one of best rated sushi restaurants in Edmonton? As a long time sushi lover, I'm so disappointed..

I would stay away if I were you! I have eaten at many sushi restaurants all over the world and this is near to the bottom of the list! Most of the sushi and rolls had a funky taste about it that is hard to describe. I would rather eat a Big Mac and I hate Macdonalds! I am not a fussy or picky eater and enjoy most places I go, but thought I should give a heads up to others thinking about this place.

My boyfriend and I go here almost every week. It's a little hole in the wall but we have never had a bad experience here. Our favourite sushi in the city! (Trust me, we've tried them all). The service is quick but don't expect any special treatment. It's usually busy and we're always in and out in about 30 minutes. It's quick, delicious and inexpensive. Our favourites are: I Love Sushi Special, Cherry Blossom, Rainbow Maki, Avocado Roll (I can't remember the name but its crunchy-has tempura bits), spider roll and my absolute favourite; mango tango roll. To be honest, I've never had anything but the sushi rolls, Gyoza or veggie tempura...but it's all so good that we don't venture away from it!

Best Sushi in town. I have tried all bigger sushi restaurants in town. Some off Jasper ave. , some on/ off Whyte ave. they all have left me wanting more.

I have never been disappointed with the food here, but it isn't a place where I would have a birthday party. It doesn't have that atmosphere , for a quick lunch or a casual dinner this is the place.

Highly recommend the dynamite cone , BC cone, chop chop maki, and the Katsu don (best in the city bar none).

Staff is attentive and great, and always provide good service.

Staff, management, an owners seem a little new at running and organizing a business. I work in the downtown area and often place an order for pick up. I'm always surprised when they don't ask for my name or contact information. Aside from being a little unorganized, very busy during lunch, and having a small seating area I think this place is GREAT. The foods good, fresh, quick, and VERY reasonably priced. Keyoto is not far from this location but I often choose I love Sushi because its cheaper for the same quality.

Nope nope nope.... Ended up here by accident because Kyoto was closed. Service wasn't bad so much as it was minimalist. I ordered a katsu-don and some sushi. The donburi was very good; piping hot and delicious, but the sushi was not so good. Basically mediocre; the tuna was fatty (not toro style fatty, just greasy) and rough and they forgot part of my order. Never did get it, but considering I didn't enjoy the sushi I had I never said anything. As I came here specifically for sushi I felt very let down. I got up to pay my server (who was sitting at the sushi bar, relaxing I guess) and that was pretty much it. I am thinking this is a place to go to get take-away sushi and not much else. Won't go back.
Fix
Competent and convenient. If you work downtown around Jasper ave, it is a convenient place to get a quick competent sushi or maki combination, generous Bento boxes, or filling Don bowls. (Unless you want to walk all the way to 109 street and 104th ave.)
Under $15 for one person including green tea, tax and 15% tip. Good turnover. Go early if you want to sit down

Wonderful place small and a great environment fast service and great quality

No love. Propelled by good reviews, I went to ILS for a quick supper one Friday. Chose the basics: Spinach Goma-ae and the 10-piece assorted sushi. Spinach: waterlogged & tasteless. Sushi: scanty slices of fish, also tasteless. Fake crab had come apart--from age?--into tough layers. Indifferent, semi-hostile service. $16.25 that could have bought so much better sushi at Furosato and a better experience just about anywhere.

Something is missing.. Their sushi is fantastic. But at the end of the day, its like something is missing.

Would probably pass. For a takeout kind of place, it is okay - just okay. I find something lacking in their sushi in terms of taste, something just doesn't seem right.
Amy N
Pretty good. Good sushi, had the love boat and the tempura was a great mix the only down comment was the avacado was over ripe making it too mushy for sushi but I would deffintly go back!
Stephen B
Excellent sushi. Great prices. Fresh fish. Good rice. Efficient service. Will come back for sure.

Supposed to have different experience than a chinese restaurant. Bad service when waitresses standing at the corner chatting each other. Finding spider web on the chandelier made my lunch experience even worse...

Give it a try. Was pleasantly surprised with this place. Had never heard of it before and went with some coworkers for lunch. It was delicious and very well priced. Will definitely be back.

Great little place!. I went here with a friend. Did not even know it existed. Nice small place. Cheap and portion was big. Love to come back and try other things in the near future!
Krista
I had high hopes based on the reviews, but was disappointed with my order. I ordered the Spider Roll and it had way too much rice and did not taste fresh at all. The miso was good though. Good service as well. Licensed but no wine.

Good prices, good quality. Overall good sushi place. Small in size but big in taste. My boyfriend tried a Beef Roll for something different - it contained warm melt in your mouth well seasoned beef ... a little atypical for sushi but none the less delicious. Service was very good and prices were good. Would go back!

Worth checking out.. For ~$11 for a bento box @ lunch, I figured there wasn't much to lose...and I was glad that I wasn't disappointed. The food wasn't mindblowing, but it's one of the 'above average' sushi places in Edmonton, that's for sure. Seating is very, very, limited, so I recommend going before or after the lunch rushes...or just going in and ordering to take out.

How you have grown. When I Love Sushi first opened, it was a lame Tokyo Express ripoff. Over the years it has grown into a quality restaurant. It has a simple menu with the standard Japanese dishes. The food is just made very well.

This place has some great tea. I don't talk a lot about tea in Asian restaurants, but this needs a special mention. The sushi is always good and fresh. I really like their oyakudon. There is so much flavour and the egg isn't raw or scrambled.

I hope this place continues to grow in quality.

BEEF MAKI IS GOOD

Tasty sushi... But I still like Tokyo Expess better.

Liked it but not loved it.... Sushi is ok for a week night. Not incredible.

Service was not very friendly, doesn't make you want to come back.

Was located right in front of my hotel so perfect when it's cold outside! For the rest, don't make a detour! ;)

Great Chicken Rice Bowl. Ever since I started working downtown, I've been coming to this place for the past 2 years. I like their Chicken Rice Bowl. Teriyaki Sauce is just right, not too sweet. Portions just right to fill up not like Tokyo Express. Prices affordable.
Veryhungryman
VERY GOOD rainbow rolls. I've been coming here for years now and I always order two rainbow rolls and the mexican maki. Their rainbow rolls are THE tastiest of all the ones I've ever had in any restaurant in the city.

It's obviously a family business with various family members working in the kitchen and in the front and it's a small cafe atmosphere (only about 10 or 12 tables, I think) and the walls have colour photos of the various menu items. The small cafe is decorated with various Hello Kitty paraphernalia and little flower vases containing glass bed flowers. The window looks out onto a park right across the street and also Jasper Avenue.

The menu is quite small and the prices are very fair and the size of their maki rolls and sushi is quite big compared to other sushi restaurants. Though the menu is small, it does offer enough variety to keep you tempted--and very full. It's very busy during the lunch hour but more quiet after 2 p.m. They close by 8 p.m. weekdays. They do not take American Express.

Best Sushi in town. Been to lots of sushi joints and this by far the best, tastiest and best priced sushi in town. Recommend the Spider Roll and Mexican Roll!!
Taylor Smith
Good quality sushi for the right price. Try the Chirashi to taste the quality of the fish. Service can be iffy when they're busy but most times it works out.
Buffy Goodman
Cute little place.. Consistently tasty, and inexpensive compared to a lot of other sushi downtown. Service is fast. Small, and gets very busy at lunch. Excellent japanese green tea, and they sell it to take home too.
Bob
Another mess of a sushi place. Waited over an hour for main course items and they gave us the wrong ones!

Fish wasn't fresh, poorly prepared and small portions really topped off a horrible experience. About the best thing was the available seating but it didn't help get our food any faster.

This isn't even a second chance restaurant.
Elaine
I love. I thought the restaurant had great service, great food, and very reasonable prices. My boyfriend and I have been here, and we're hooked. It has a very cute little ambience, very simple, and cozy. Our food came out quickly, and we the chef even offered to make us custom dishes that weren't on the menu when we asked about them. Perfect place for a date, or just to go out for dinner and visit with family and friends

Service?. I pre-ordered my food. I arrived, and was not even acknowledged for over 15 minutes. Food was not even started, and the dining room only had 2 tables.

So-so sushi. Would not order again.
LoveGoodFood
Cheap. The quality of the food is so-so.... but it's cheap.
Vivian W. Lin
The decor is fairly cute with hello kitty and some japanese elements but it is not glamorous at all. They have some pictures all over their walls that show their food and the name of each item. They have some bento box selections but their evening bento boxes have more variety and choices.
Little Miss Andrea
Although I Love Sushi has a great downtown location and very affordable prices for Japanese cuisine, it really isn't a restaurant that I would look forward to returning to. There were some hits and misses that evening, so this restaurant may be good if you're in the area and in need of a quick fix, but don't expect to have your minds blown by high quality fish.
Happy Sushi Belly
The sashimi on the other hand was really disapointing. When it came, it visually looked mushy. It actually still LOOKED partially frozen (although it wasn’t) and when I ate it, the very small pieces also felt and tasted mushy. I like a nice, firm but tender piece of tuna, and this wasn’t it. This was super-cheap maki quality tuna, not sashimi quality tuna as far as I was concerned.
Krispybites
I've heard that I Love Sushi is the go-to sushi place in downtown because of the reasonable prices for decent quality. I agree for the most part, but I won't be coming back anytime soon due to bad service and hygiene issues. The sushi chef was blatantly picking his nose behind the counter and made no attempt to hide it! I was so disturbed and shocked that I almost wanted to stop eating right then and there. But it was a lot of money/food to throw away, so I just tried to stop thinking about it. Disregarding that disgusting fact, the sushi was actually quite decent. We ordered (from right to left) 3 salmon skin temaki ($3.99 ea), mango tango maki ($9), black dragon maki ($9.50), 3 hamachi nigiri ($2 ea), 2 toro nigiri ($2 ea), and 1 tamago nigiri ($1.95 ea). I enjoyed the crunchy and savoury salmon skin as well as the mango tango roll with a filling of shrimp tempura. The black dragon had too many crunchy tempura bits, so it was like eating a roll of tempura batter. The hamachi was mush
Eating Is The Hard Part
All in all, I’m not sure that I Love Sushi is a place I’d come back to for my sashimi fix. Maybe the fact that the wall of photos only included a few shots of sashimi was the first sign, but this boat was most definitely the b
